The Wicked Bible - KJV 1631 Edition

How important does a single word in scripture hold? If you are reading the 10 commandments then a single word means a LOT! If you have never heard of the 1631 edition of the KJV then you may find it interesting that around 1,000 of these bibles were printed for King CharlesĀ  I. Read on to see how bad this typo was.

First lets have a look at the standard reading of Exodus 20:14.

Exodus 20:14:

Thou shall not commit adultery

and how about the reading from the 1631 edition.

Exodus 20:14 (1631 edition typo):

Thou shall commit adultery

How shocking would that be? Now you understand how this rare find has been called the Wicked Bible.

Amazing. I’m sure someone was rather embarrassed about that typo. The proof reader should be as well. Personally, I think I’ll stick to the way it was supposed to be written, shall NOT.
