Why Don’t Churches Ever Talk About Physical Health?

This is such an important issue! Thank you for bringing this up! My church actually started a fitness group last year after our pastors invited a certified doctor to come and speak at our church. It has made such a difference! People in my church, who formally dealt with many health issues (from back pain to failing organs), have radically changed the way we view health & fitness. Whole families are changing their diets, getting active, and generally just feeling better. I'm telling you - joy and peace are absolutely connected to taking care of our physical bodies. I don't sell anything... I'm just a huge advocate for health because I've seen what it has done in my friends' and family's lives. It's about way more than losing weight. It's about living an abundant life. The more we educate ourselves about our physical bodies and adopt a healthy lifestyle, the more effective our testimony will be in spreading the gospel. Health is His will--it should be ours, too!

A Worship Song Worthy of Eternity

And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Yes, God Is Calling You to Be a Missionary

Perhaps you are full of ideas that can change your community and the world. Just remember you need to be connected to actual living, breathing people with souls. This is why we pray, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, [in your place] as it is in heaven.” Staying in one place and working for its good might be the most countercultural thing we can do. It’s time for the people of Jesus to live for Him right where we are.

Ten Systematic Theology Resources

Besides ofcourse Calvins Institues, I’m not that familiar with the other books. I know that Grudem and Berkhof are populair in the USA, but in Europe they are only known by theologians. And I think that they don’t use them. And most of the other authors are ofcourse famous, but I haven’t read those particular books. Until recent times theology, certainly liberal theology, in continental Europe was more focussed on German theology. Only in recent decades the focus shifted to the Anglo-Saxon world. So at the bookshelves of older pastors so you see many German commentary’s and books, because German theology was the mainline at universities at the time they study. Younger pastors almost entirely shift to Englisch commentary’s and books, both liberal and orthodox. A other point is, that continental-European theology is almost totally liberal. So their are not that many real theological works like dogmatics textbooks and commentary’s written and published from a orthodox-reformed point of view. Most of this kind of books have to come from the Anglo-Saxon world.

Lucille Ball Lives: Cate Blanchett Will Play the Actress in an Upcoming Film

In a stroke of casting genius, Cate Blanchett will play Lucille Ball in an upcoming biopic written by Aaron Sorkin ( The West Wing ). The Australian actress hasn’t had too many opportunities to flex her comedic muscle—having won Oscars for her roles in both Blue Jasmine and The Aviator . But then again, before I Love Lucy, much of Hollywood was convinced that beautiful women couldn’t be funny. Blanchett's already got the blessings of film producers/Ball children Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., and production on the film is slated to begin sometime next year.

‘Parks and Rec’ Co-Creator Is Working on a New Sitcom about an Interracial Family

Two of the masterminds behind shows including The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock are teaming up for a new sitcom about an interracial family. The NBC show is being produced by Michael Schur, the former SNL and Office writer who co-created both Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine . Schur teamed up with former 30 Rock writer and Parks and Rec producer Matt Hubard, who will pen the script. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the sitcom “revolves around a happily married interracial couple, Andrew and Josie, whose lives take a turn when they move closer to Josie's family in Missouri.” Schur’s been a busy guy since Parks and Rec went off the air. In addition to the new NBC show, he’s also executive producing a new series for Netflix starring Aziz Ansari, and he created yet another sitcom for NBC called A Good Place .

http://rickwarren.org/devotional/english/let-god-tell-you-what-to-give

My wife Kay and I have been tested many times on giving when we didn’t have it. One of the most dramatic examples was when we raised money to build Saddleback Church’s building back in 1993. We were meeting in a tent and decided that we would have an offering to build a building. People would make commitments to give over a three-year period. So Kay and I prayed about what we would give, and we came up with an amount that certainly wasn’t reasonable. In fact, it was more than we could afford. But we trusted God for that amount.

A Response To “Planned Parenthood is Not Selling Baby Parts, You *** Idiots"

When Skepchick Rebecca Watson wrote her viral post on the Planned Parenthood scandal (“Planned Parenthood is Not Selling Baby Parts, you F*** Idiots”), no one had to guess which side she was defending or what she thought of the pro-life crowd. The article is worth considering – not because she’s right, but because she is frustratingly wrong in both her facts and assumptions. As I respond to her arguments, I will be quoting the shortened blog version she posted on her website.

Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty for Racist Church Shooter Dylann Roof

Dylann Roof may be executed for his crimes. The openly racist gunman, who killed nine people attending a Bible study at a historic black church this summer, will face the death penalty for the murders. In documents filed this week, prosecutors indicated that they have evidence that Roof has shown a lack of remorse for the murders at South Carolina's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The 21-year-old, who wrote about his own racist ideology online, also faces federal hate crime charges as well as charges of obstruction of the practice of religion. In addition to the murder counts, some of the federal charges also carry with them the possibility of the death penalty.

Recruiting Violation

The beauty of this narrative, however, becomes a hostage when individuals focus too heavily on contrasting such a passage to that of another. What one reads in John’s Gospel is not a competing narrative, but rather a passage complementing what Matthew already recorded. Matthew previously records Andrew and Simon Peter’s call to discipleship. The passage under consideration in John written decades later in no way competes with such content. As one carefully reads John’s account again, what is found is an introduction between Jesus and the brothers Andrew and Simon Peter. Nowhere in John’s account does Jesus call Andrew or Simon Peter. The two are introduced to Jesus, but He does not call them. Why not?

Faithful Thinkers: Book Review: Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted In Mid-Air

Introduction More and more it seems that society and culture are attempting to jettison objective morality in favor of their own moral autonomy. It is a challenge that takes place at both an individual level and a political level. The Christian worldview holds that certain actions and behaviors are right or wrong regardless of who believes or does not believe that they are. Christians need to be able to defend this position in their everyday discussions with friends, family, and coworkers; otherwise, they may cave to the "wisdom of the world." Greg Koukl and Francis Beckwith wrote Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air ( soft cover , Kindle , GoodReads ) precisely with these everyday Christians in mind. The book is divided into five parts (sixteen chapters) and 170 pages. This review will be a part-by-part review (rather than my usual chapter-by-chapter, due to the short length of some chapters) to provide the reader with a quick summary of what they can expect from the book. My thoughts will conclude the review. While both Koukl and Beckwith are in agreement with all the content in the book, they each were the primary authors of certain parts, so I will refer to them by name (even though both authors are represented).

Madonna's gay brother defends Christian clerk Kim Davis who refuses to issue same-sex marriage licences – Premier Premier

Madonna's brother, Christopher Ciccone, who is gay, has spoken out defending Kim Davis, writing on Facebook: "The county clerk deserves about as much support as you would give her if she were a Muslim (woman) who insisted on covering her face and refused not only gay marriage licences, but divorce, accusations of rape and driving a car without your man's approval."

Study finds faith is leading Christians towards organ donation – Premier Premier

"It is through partnerships like the fleshandblood campaign that we can raise awareness of the shortage of available organs for transplant and explain the need for people to talk about organ donation and share their decision with their loved ones, who can then in the event of their death allow their wish to donate to be realised."

Should Energy Drinks Fuel the Christian Life?

And then he adds, what? 1 Corinthians 10. “‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things build up.” So here is my paraphrase for José: 1) Energy drinks are lawful for me, but are they helpful to my real advantage? And I will come back to that. 2) Energy drinks are lawful for me, but do they dominate or master or enslave me? I will come back to that one. 3) Energy drinks are lawful for me, but does my drinking of them build up? Does it build up my faith and particularly does it build up the faith of others? So let me just give a thought about each of those questions that might help him navigate whether he uses them and how frequently he uses them.

Multitude of sins.

Without the illumination of the moral Law, man is in darkness as to his true sinful condition in God’s eyes (see Rom. 7:7,13). The Law demands perfect righteousness (see Psa. 19:7). Even one transgression against its holy precepts will condemn us (see James 2:10), but in reality, the most righteous of human souls has a multitude of sins (see Jer. 30:15; James 5:20).
