Do Yourself a Favor and Watch this Sia Cover That Uses Only a Bike as an Instrument

This is hands down the greatest cover song you’ll ever hear that uses only a bicycle as an instrument. Singer Kina Grannis and YouTube artist Kurt Hugo Schneider created this cover of Sia’s hit “ "Cheap Thrills” using drum sticks, a moving bicycle and some really great vocals. Who needs DJ equipment and actual instruments when you have an old fashioned 10-speed.

7 In Celebration of Labor

The bumper sticker read "I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go." Well, that's what many, including many Christians, think of work. What does Labor Day mean? For most of us, it's nothing more than a welcome break from what we tend to see as "the daily grind." Work to so many people is simply a necessary evil. The goal in life is putting in enough time to retire and relax.

Celebrating 50 Years of Star Trek: Top 25 Moments, Times Two #25-21

Readers of this blog know that I’m a huge science fiction fan. Science fiction is a genre that has more worldview seeping into it and through it than almost any other one, in my opinion. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, I have teamed up with Mike Poteet of The Sci-Fi Christian (an excellent site and podcast you should follow in all forms) to share our top 25 moments each (50 total!) from all of Star Trek on screen. That’s right, from The Original Series all the way through Star Trek Beyond , we’re bringing you our favorite moments. Some of these are steeped with worldview, and some are just fun or interesting. Check them out, and let us know  your  favorites in the comments.

Kindness Changes Everything

When Paul laid out his case to the church in Corinth that he was a true apostle, he did so by detailing the trials he endured for the sake of the gospel, the inner spiritual life God granted him despite this suffering, and the God-produced spiritual fruit in his life (2 Corinthians 6:1–13). Surprisingly, kindness made his list of spiritual fruit. “You want proof I’m an apostle?” he said, in effect. “Okay, here it is: I’m kind.”

9 Things You Should Know About Mother Teresa

We are talking of peace. These are things that break peace, but I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing - direct murder by the mother herself. And we read in the Scripture, for God says very clearly: Even if a mother could forget her child - I will not forget you - I have carved you in the palm of my hand. We are carved in the palm of His hand, so close to Him that unborn child has been carved in the hand of God. And that is what strikes me most, the beginning of that sentence, that even if a mother could forget something impossible - but even if she could forget - I will not forget you. And today the greatest means - the greatest destroyer of peace is abortion. And we who are standing here - our parents wanted us. We would not be here if our parents would do that to us. Our children, we want them, we love them, but what of the millions. Many people are very, very concerned with the children in India, with the children in Africa where quite a number die, maybe of malnutrition, of hunger and so on, but millions are dying deliberately by the will of the mother.

As Predicted, Gay Activists Attack the Messengers, Ignore the Evidence | The Stream

Michael I read this report on T H this reminds me of the analogy of the Jaywalker Story in the A A book. The guy tries to jump the cars is hit and breaks a leg . Next time it’s 2 legs . Then both legs and both arms . Of course our man is constantly reminded he is in the wrong and that his lifestyle will kill him . He of course maintains he’s in the right and nothing will convince him he’s in the wrong. Of course the day comes when his luck runs out and the CONDOM bursts still he says to himself its only AIDS and they say ( whoever they are ) that I can still live a ” normal life ” if I take a barrow load of drugs every day for the rest of my short life. Talk about the blind leading the blind. –God Bless.

From Flight to Fight

So when your ears catch the drum of approaching orcs, and you feel the desire to surrender to sin, flee to Christ. He is a proven haven who has withstood all the artillery of the devil (Luke 4:1–13). We fight in his armor and are armed with his sword (Ephesians 6:17). Our daily battle cry is not simply, “Away from sin,” but, “To his keep!”

14
Syncretism – R.C. Sproul Jr.

Jesus, when He drew people unto Him, He called them and warned them and told them “You have to consider the cost. You have to set aside everything else, it’s gotta be all me, and nothing else.” So when we are trying to pursue personal peace and affluence, and trying to serve the living God, we find ourselves in the position of trying to serve two masters. I’m persuaded that so much of the weariness and the tiredness and the confusion that besets the evangelical church is grounded in just this, we’re trying to worship two gods. And that will wear anybody else. Our call is to live a simple life. And by simple I don’t mean you have to wear plain clothes and make your own soap, I mean a simple life is one where you have one single goal, where you pursue one thing, and that is the true and living God. We kill syncretism by understanding and embracing who God is, and by setting aside all the other idols and tearing them down, and bringing down the high places, and getting on our knees and seeking God and His face. I hope that we can do better, I hope that as I grow in grace and wisdom, I am busy about the business of tearing down the idols in my life.

“People Do Not Come to Faith from Arguments!” 4 Objections to Apologetics

Let me first say, I wholeheartedly agree that the Holy Spirit leads people to faith. Jesus noted that when the Holy Spirit comes that He would “convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because you do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged” (John 16:8-11). While the Holy Spirit convicts, we are told that we have a part to play in the evangelism process. Jesus also told the disciples before His ascension, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). One could argue; If the Holy Spirit brings people to faith, then why evangelize? Christians evangelize because God commanded us to do so. Through the preaching of the Word, people are convicted by the Holy Spirit to come to faith. The Holy Spirit uses our evangelistic efforts to save people. The same is true for apologetics. Intellectual argumentation is often used by the Holy Spirit to bring people to faith.

Getting Hurt By the Church Doesn't Mean You Should Abandon God

I realized that my strongest experiences of worship don’t usually happen when life is going well. It’s when life is going poorly and I’m in the middle of a storm and I still stand and sing glory that I most intensely experience God’s nearness and greatness.

22
Three Common Objections to the Personhood of the Holy Spirit

"....Here, Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit as a Counselor who is going to come and help to teach the disciples. It is very interesting that John actually violates Greek grammar in order to emphasis the personhood of the Holy Spirit. How does he do that? The word “spirit” in Greek is neuter – to pneuma. That doesn’t mean that the Holy Spirit is neutral, that he is not a person, any more than in German if you said das mädchen, “the girl”, means that girls are neuter. It is just that in Greek it has a neuter pronoun for the word “spirit.” But John uses the masculine pronoun for referring back to the Holy Spirit. Instead of saying “when the Spirit comes, it will guide you in all truth” he says “He will guide you.” He uses the masculine pronoun even though it has a neuter antecedent – which is actually violating grammar – in order to emphasis that we are talking here about a person who is going to be in us and with us and guiding us...."

23 Chaucer Who?

Anthony Esolen, an English professor at Providence College writes much the same about students’ language skills. “I now regularly meet students who have never heard the names of most English authors who lived before 1900…" and he added, they make “grammatical errors for which there are no names.”

24
The New Face of Atheism (And It’s Not Dawkins!)

In contrast, the new face of atheism does not lead with the intellect. While they do reject the truth of Christianity, and frequently raise objections to the faith, they seem to focus more on the heart than the mind. This is not meant as a critique, but a recognition that they are less interested in debating theology than in simply helping people in the here and now. They are driven more to help people find community and meaning in their present lives than discussing the second premise of the cosmological argument. In fact, some even question the importance and relevance of the big questions of life.

Along with his legacy of being a reformer and a father of Protestantism, Martin Luther is also remembered for a less grand—and a much more relatable—trait: Doubt. Luther’s primary doubts about faith didn’t necessarily rest on the question of God’s existence, but His character.

28
Why Christians Need Apologetics

In addition to Peter, the book of Acts repeatedly records Paul reasoning with people about Christianity (Acts 14:15–17; 17:2, 4, 17–31; 18:4). Luke records that Paul “entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks” (Acts 19:8–10).

The $64,000 Question about God

Aldous Huxley confessed , “I had motives for not wanting the world to have a meaning; and consequently assumed that it had none, and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning in the world is not concerned exclusively with a problem in pure metaphysics. He is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to do. For myself, as no doubt for most of my friends, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation from a certain system of morality. We objected to the morality because it interfered with our sexual freedom.”

The ‘Mythbusters’ Gang Is Coming Back with a New Netflix Show

Thankfully, the premise sounds similar to Mythbusters , except without all of the bickering between Jamie and Adam. According to Deadline , in The White Rabbit Project , “the three head down the rabbit hole to investigate weird and wonderful events from pop culture, science and history” including “topics as diverse as jailbreaks, superpower technology, heists and crazy world war two weapons.” You hear that? Jailbreaks. Heist. Weaponry. This is going to be cool.

Dealing Hope in the Darkest of Nights

What changed? So much happened, and I wish I could share it all. But the short answer is that God delivered me from the darkness of despair through my friends and family as they shared their hope with me. I’m not talking about a shove-it-in-your-face kind of “sharing.” They didn’t try to explain all my problems away or attempt to explain all of God’s intentions for my suffering.

Why are So Many Former Atheists Coming to Christ?

Usually, I only see them when we move. As I’m ripping open box after box of books and propping up worn and dog-eared volumes on the shelves, I come across them like some sort of sweaty prize. They don’t look like much on the outside—just scuffed up, spiral-bound notebooks in black and blue—and you might think they deserve a quick jog to the trash.

http://truthbomb.blogspot.com/2016/02/j-warner-wallace-on-bias.html

"Christians are often accused of being 'biased' simply because they believe in the supernatural.  This accusation has power in our current pluralistic culture.  Biased people are seen as prejudicial and unfair, arrogant and overly confident of their position.  Nobody wants to be identified as someone who is biased or opinionated. But make no mistake about it, all of us have a point of view; all of us hold opinions and ideas that color the way we see the world. Anyone who tells you that he (or she) is completely objective and devoid of presuppositions has another more important problem: that person is either astonishingly naive or a liar." 1 You can find a post by Wallace on this topic here . Can Science Identify the Intelligent Designer?

We live in a world that values tolerance and religious pluralism. Because of this widespread attitude, perhaps it’s not surprising that one of the questions I’m most often asked by non-Christian academics relates to the identity of the Designer. They want to know, how does the scientific case for intelligent design specifically identify the God of the Bible as the Designer?

Did Jesus Commend Faith That Is Blind? | Cold Case Christianity

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples , which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. Ben-Hur: Gods, Faith, Baptism, and Forgiveness

I had the chance to go see the new “Ben Hur” movie this past weekend. I think it is fair to say that I’m a huge fan of Ben Hur in many forms. I read the novel (at least) annually. I watch the Charlton Heston version of the film several times a year. It is one of the most utterly compelling plots I know of. It’s a tale of betrayal and revenge that turns into much more than that. (Be sure to see the Links at the end for several more of my posts about the book and other movie.) Here, I will look at this particular retelling of the story of Ben Hur and the worldview themes found therein. There will be SPOILERS in what follows.

Dear Apologist...

This week marks the five year anniversary of my Coming Out as an Apologist, the day I posted my very first article here. I’ve been reflecting on all that has come to pass since that day, including the crucial lessons learned, some of which were learned the hard way (in some cases, that is an understatement). Five years doesn’t sound all that impressive when you consider how long many eminent thinkers in my field have been plowing ground, but I believe I have gained some wisdom worth sharing.

39
Why isn’t God’s Existence more Obvious? | Saints and Sceptics

Some atheists are quite open about the fact that they don’t want there to be a God. Others demand evidence of a very narrow kind that seems to amount to either mathematical proof or something akin to the sort of evidence that might be acquired in an experiment in the science lab. Those who adopt such an approach tend to be very dismissive of reasons that are offered in favour of God’s existence and in many cases they aren’t prepared to put any significant effort into understanding these reasons or evaluating them with an open mind. Now, my point is not that all atheists approach the topic in this way, but just that for those who do, merely providing more evidence for God will be unlikely to change their minds. Why? Because their attitude to God and to the possibility of evidence for God virtually guarantees their atheistic conclusion.

40
Are Mutations Part of the “Engine” of Evolution?

In the evolutionary model, mutations are hailed as a dominant mechanism for pond-scum-to-people evolution and provide “proof ” that the Bible’s history about creation is wrong. But are we to trust the ideas of imperfect, fallible men about how we came into existence, or should we believe the account of a perfect God who was an eyewitness to His creation? Let’s look at mutations in more detail and see if they provide the information necessary to support pond-scum-to-people evolution, or if they confirm God’s Word in Genesis.

41
God of Love?

Increasingly today, “love” for many involves control and manipulation, seeking maximum self-gratification in return for minimum commitment. It could be argued that this is due, at least in part, to the widespread influence of atheism and naturalistic evolution in public life, particularly in schools. If children are told that there is no God, no ultimate purpose, no universal standard for moral behavior; that they are utterly insignificant, the result of chance chemical interactions on a cosmic stage; that survival of the fittest is the most important factor in the evolution and furtherance of the human race—is it really any wonder that much of society is obsessed with hedonism and violence? This approach to life is the complete opposite of what the Bible teaches about love and its associated humility, mercy, kindness, and faithfulness.

42
Is Jesus the Creator God?

That is, God the Father, whose voice was never heard, nor his shape seen by angels or men; for though Jacob, Moses, the elders of Israel, Manoah, and his wife, are said to see God, and Job expected to see him with his bodily eyes, and the saints will see him as he is, in which will lie their great happiness; yet all seems to be understood of the second person, who frequently appeared to the Old Testament saints, in an human form, and will be seen by the saints in heaven, in his real human nature; or of God in and by him: for the essence of God is invisible, and not to be seen with the eyes of the body; nor indeed with the eyes of the understanding, so as to comprehend it; nor immediately, but through, and by certain means: God is seen in the works of creation and providence, in the promises, and in his ordinances; but above all, in Christ the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person: this may chiefly intend here, man’s not knowing any thing of God in a spiritual and saving way, but in and by Christ 11

Bold Evidence is Everywhere for God: Yet 'Nothing' is Proof for Atheism

There's a plausible case for understanding precisely how a universe full of stuff, like the universe we live in, could result literally from nothing by natural processes. … In particular, nothing is unstable. Nothing can create something all the time due to the laws of quantum mechanics, and it's - it's fascinatingly interesting. And what I wanted to do was use the hook of this question, which I think as I say has provoked religious people, as well as scientists, to encourage people to try and understand the amazing universe that we actually live in

Old School Books Are Still More Popular Than Electronic Ones

The way people read e-books has evolved over the past five years as well. People who read e-books have shifted to using smartphones and tablets instead of e-readers. Bill Nye’s New Netflix Show Will Take on ‘Religious Leaders’

Since the start of the ‘Science Guy’ show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.

Reasons To Believe : Why All the Buzz About Mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes can be found in very warm climates as well as in cold climates and are an intricate part of Earth’s biodiversity and God’s creation. The vast majority of mosquitoes are beneficial participants in complex ecosystems and play no role in human disease. We really don’t know how eradicating mosquitoes might result in significant unwanted and unimaginable effects on the environment. As scientists and good stewards of creation, we must patiently and diligently look for ways to prevent mosquito-borne diseases while protecting well-balanced ecological systems. One day soon, as we continue to learn more, we might have more to buzz about and even reasons to celebrate mosquitoes on World Mosquito Day!
