How the Origin of Life Points to the Existence of God (Video) | Cold Case Christianity

This video, excerpted from J. Warner Wallace’s presentation of the evidence for God (from his book, God’s Crime Scene ), summarizes the case for Gods existence from the origin of life. Has science answered the question of life’s origin? How do philosophically natural scientists tackle the “chicken and egg” problems related to the origin of life? What is the best explanation for the information found in the genetic code? For a robust review of the collective case for God’s existence from eight pieces of evidence “inside the room” of the natural universe, please refer to God’s Crime Scene: A Cold-Case Detective Examines the Evidence for a Divinely Created Universe . Pope: Govt workers should be able to refuse gay marriage licenses

Pope Francis on Monday appeared to side with a Kentucky clerk who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, saying government employees should have the “human right” to object to acts that violate their beliefs. ADVERTISEMENT “Conscientious objection must enter into every judicial structure, because it is a right,” he told reporters while flying to Rome following a 10-day tour of the U.S. that ended Monday morning, according to Reuters . “I can’t have in mind all cases that can exist about conscientious objection, but yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right,” Francis said, in Italian. “And if someone does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right,” the pontiff added, according to the news service. “Otherwise we would end up in a situation where we select what is a right, saying: ‘This right has merit, this one does not.’ ” Francis’s remarks come after renewed national debate over same-sex marriage earlier this summer. The Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges last June that all 50 states must recognize same-sex marriages nationwide.

8 Blind Faith? | Reasonable Faith

Ultimately, the question comes down to this; is knowledge ever a bad thing? Wouldn't it be better for people of faith to learn what the opposing arguments are, and make their own informed decision about whether those arguments are fallacious (perhaps using your refutations to inform their decision, but still with a firsthand exposure to the opposing arguments themselves), then to just take your word for it and make an a priori dismissal of their validity without ever seeing them? What would you say about an atheist who dismissed Christian arguments the same way? Do you believe that God wants people to follow him through blind faith? If not, what makes "quit reading and watching the infidel material you've been absorbing" distinct from blind faith?

Injury Interrupted My Idolatry

Suffering is the hook that God uses to bring us back to himself, collapsed and tired from slaving for sin, which Jonathan Edwards calls our “cruel task-master, which oppresses and chastises.” It’s the earthquake that exposes idols and dethrones sin in our hearts. When I was playing for the Knicks, I knew God existed and disapproved of the life I was living (overindulging in alcohol and sexual promiscuity), but I preached a gospel of cheap grace to make myself feel better. With the injuries, God exposed that I was relying on something other than grace painted to look like grace — a cheap grace that was as useful for my suffering as a cardboard cutout of Jesus.

‘Braveheart’ Writer on Finding God in Darkness

I think family, always. In my sense, to live a braveheart life [means being] a father, a teacher, a warrior, a sacred man and an outlaw. That way of living makes wonderful sense to me. I find the joy of being a father and of appreciating my own father, even though he’s passed away now. I find a joy in my work, and I find a peace in the sense that the struggles in my life aren’t because I’ve done something wrong, but might be because I’m doing something right. It gives me a lot of joy.

Stephen Colbert on Being a “Fool for Christ”

And yet, I am left wondering: if one of the parishioners of the average Evangelical congregation had a similar level of faith, would they be as articulate in explaining it? As winsome? Would they demonstrate the level of reliance on their faith that Mr. Colbert seems to? These are questions without answers. But I find it highly unlikely that most Evangelicals are tossing around Anselm and Aquinas (correctly) in their every day conversations as a result of personal reflection on their respective philosophies. The task remains for those of us who preach and teach the Gospel to partner with the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Scriptures and to encourage a robust inner life.

Should Christians Start Revolutions or Just Live Quietly?

Here’s a great question from podcast listener Nolan: “Pastor John, my name is Nolan from West Palm Beach, Florida. In 1 Thessalonians 4:11 Paul writes, ‘Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.’ Instantly, I thought of faithful Christians who led revolutions (Martin Luther, Martin Luther King, Jr., etc) and noted that they did not live quiet lives minding their own business. So my question is, does this passage prevent us from leading social movements, many of which are bold and up front, like the Civil Rights movement?”

Happiness

3. Happiness is found throughout the Bible. If happiness is rooted in God’s character, we shouldn’t be surprised that it’s found throughout his Word. What is surprising, though, is just how much it’s in the Bible. Although he overcounts some words in his survey, Alcorn proves that many of the words our English versions translate “joy,” “delight,” “gladness,” and so on are synonyms for Greek and Hebrew words that all mean happiness. So central is happiness to the gospel that if our gospel doesn’t produce happiness, it’s not the true gospel.

When ‘Discernment’ Leads to Disaster

That 2000 CBF policy, still in effect, dates back to when an older generation was leading the CBF and it reflects the fact that many of the churches that were ready to join the CBF in the 1990 were not (yet) ready to endorse homosexuality. The CBF has no argument against homosexuality on biblical terms, so it is only a matter of time before it changes its policy. Even in 2000, the group announced the policy but claimed to take no “position” on homosexuality itself: “CBF values and respects the autonomy of each individual and local church to evaluate and make their own decision regarding social issues like homosexuality.”

Gut Check: The Jim Gaffigan Show - A Puffy James Dean - Breitbart

*The show refuses to marginalize religion – it features a recurring character who happens to be a Catholic priest, and Jeannie mentions prayer consistently throughout the show. One particular episode focus on an incident in which Jim is photographed holding Jeannie’s large bible – and because it’s so rare to see an entertainer holding one – the photo turns him into a religious celebrity – a mainstream oddity. He starts getting 7-figure offers to do commercials from pro-family businesses, while also alienating non-religious types. He finds himself (spoiler coming) barreling through a 20 minute nightmare fantasy where he plays out how his career will be destroyed by this damning photo. It turns out, however, it is but a fantasy: a daydream sequence of what could happen, if he were caught with a bible. It’s a great way to end a show about religion: caught holding a bible, but then – like that – he rewound the show , and got himself out of this mess. He cops out. And admits it.

How an Affair Really Begins

Inevitably, this growing relationship will lead to a kind of intimacy so strong and so exhilarating that you will have to find out if she feels the same way. You will express your feelings. You won’t come right out with the full expression of your feelings—you are too clever and too subtle for that. Instead, you will test the waters a little bit. “I really enjoy spending time with you.” And she will reply, “I enjoy spending time with you as well.” “I wish I could talk to my wife the way I talk to you.” And she will say, “I wish I could talk to my husband the way I talk to you.” And then you will advance to, “I wish my wife was more like you” and she will reply, “I wish my husband was more like you.” And at this point you’re caught. You’re in. Tommy Nelson says, “You’ve built a bridge to Fantasy Island,” and it’s now all but certain that you will walk across it. The emotional bond is already there and it is now only natural to give that emotional bond a physical expression. That leads to the final “e.”

Some “pro-choice” advocates claim to base their beliefs on the Bible. They maintain that Scripture does not prohibit abortion. They are wrong. Top 10 Debate Topics

Kevin Harris: Dr. Craig, I would like you to look over this list. I found this on a popular blog. [1] From time to time, someone will list what they see as the state of the debate among theists and atheists. That is, what people are most frequently talking about online and at public events concerning theism and atheism. So this is a top 10 list that we will look at briefly. Keep in mind, we've done podcasts on all of these topics. I think this list is pretty accurate. I keep up with this as well for this podcast and the Reasonable Faith ministry. In fact, about fifteen years ago, I compiled a list of the current topics online and they were things like Pascal's Wager, Ockham's Razor, God of the Gaps, and one that always seems to make the list – it never goes away – is this blogger's number one: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. He includes it with who has the burden of proof when it comes to claims about God.

New Season of ‘Serial’ May Examine Case of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl

New details have emerged about an upcoming season of the popular true crime podcast Serial . After the U.S. negotiated his released, Bergdahl was charged with desertion, and even putting the lives of fellow soldiers who attempted to find him at risk. He now faces both court-martial and life in prison. There are some major questions about why Bergdahl wandered off the military base in Afghanistan prior to his capture. One General told the New York Times that Bergdahl wasn’t trying to abandon the Army, but was attempting to walk nearly 20 miles to another base to expose leadership issues he was “perceiving were true.”

Ligonier Ministries

Having recently written for and edited a study Bible ( The Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible ), I can say from firsthand experience that, joined with prayer and the Spirit’s illumination, God blesses study Bibles as important means for our spiritual growth. The most important way to use any Bible, regardless of whether it has notes or other helps, is to read it in order to know, trust in, and love Jesus Christ better and to become conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). The Pharisees turned Bible study into an art, yet it was a perverse art of avoiding the Savior. Christ rebuked them, saying, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). May all our Bible study cause us to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
