Your Favorite Old Nickelodeon Cartoons Are Coming Back to TV

Starting next month, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the cable network will air “The Splat” programming block, featuring a bunch of the amazing cartoons you grew up with. There is now no more reason to sleep.

SES Conference

Welcome to the 2015 annual National Conference on Christian Apologetics (NCCA). Every year, Southern Evangelical Seminary hosts one of the largest apologetics events in the country. Join us on  October 16-17 (the final lecture is on Saturday at 4:30pm) , as we discuss this years theme, "Ideas Have Consequences."  Every consequence, whether good or bad, ultimately begins with an idea. This year's conference will equip Christians to engage today's most prevalent ideas, encouraging attendees to speak words of grace, so they may "know how...to answer each person" (Colossians 4:6). Help us spread the word by following our Facebook page!

British Spies Prove the Popularity of Radiohead

This just in: Radiohead is popular. Like really really popular. So much in fact, Thom Yorke and the gang were the inspiration for the name behind an online surveillance program. Britain's Government Communications Headquarters was the organization behind Karma Police, which since seven years ago has been secretly collecting information on the public’s internet usage. According to recently released records, over 1.1 trillion records were collected between August 2007 and march 2009. Since 2012, 50 billion records a day have been taken. That’s news enough to turn anyone into a Paranoid Android.

JOSH: Consider getting my book on self-image and see yourself as God sees you. Study it very carefully. If you’re afraid to make mistakes, you don’t see yourself in a realistic, biblical, and healthy way. Let me give an illustration, I was meeting with president George W. Bush, and somehow parenting came up and he said “Josh, I’ve never known a moment in my life that my father didn’t love me unconditionally.” And I’ve heard that from a lot of people, but then the president added “And do you know what that did for me?” I had no idea, so I said “What?” Sean this is profound. He said, “It set me free to fail.” Now you think of that. Until you are loved unconditionally, by someone, no matter what you do, how bad it is, whatever, they’ll still love you, then you’re not free to fail.

Jesus’ Flipping Tables Isn’t an Excuse for Your Online Rants

The irony here is that always smiling and being nice and unfailingly polite aren't actually Christian virtues, they are the thin veneer of a materialistic middle class society which promotes forced silences and grudging cooperation. They are not love, charity, longsuffering, forebearance, etc. They are social programs of control inflicted upon people by various cliques for various purposes, hiding under the guise of Christian virtue. And, yet more ironically, these sorts of theologies and counselings seek to make a sin out of human emotion. Christ never told people anger was sinful. And yet I hear it all the time. This doesn't come from the Bible, this comes from self-help gurus, pop-psychology, and Miss Manners.

Let’s All Hope This Power Nap Desk Starts to Catch On

We’ve all been there. Mid-afternoon hits, and instead of a lunch break, what you really want to recharge for the rest of the work day is a few minutes of blissful, power nap slumber. Well, a Greek design studio has created this prototype that they hope will make this day-sleeping dream a reality. As you can see from these pictures , NL Studio’s “desk studio bed” even has a little TV mounted at bed-level, so you can watch a little Netflix while you doze off. And, perhaps the best feature is a retractable wall that makes your napping completely hidden from office guests. What could possibly go wrong ?

How Becoming a Parent Will Change Your Faith

Marissa, I can see your point. The article should've been a bit more clear on what "closer than ever before" references. I am currently struggling to have a child of my own, so I know how "not being a parent" hurts. I don't know your story or what your future holds, but I want to express my understanding of what this article should've said. The trials we face will always transform our 'closeness' with God. In the past 18 months I have had 2 heart wrenching miscarriages and have not been able to bring a baby to term. Since I am a parent of 2 babies I never got to hold I have a weird view of both sides. When we go through pain we have 2 possible outcomes: grow stronger or grow more defeated. It is my thought that the author meant to compare parenthood as a trial unique from other trials. This does not mean parenthood is the only path for drawing closer to God. Through my trials I have definitely grown closer to God. Another person may have faced physical or emotional abuse, and their struggle may have drawn them closer to God. If you have experienced different trials that in no way means you have not grown to the same closeness, as we must remember God is not an earthly parent who can only focus on one person at a time.

Psalm 102 Changed My Mind About Abortion

How did Psalm 102 change Rosaria Butterfield's mind about abortion? “Here was the line of my undoing: 'And peoples yet uncreated shall praise and magnify the LORD' (Ps. 102:18). I got it: abortion is not a right or an entitlement. Abortion steals praise from God by denying image-bearers the opportunity to live through and for him. Abortion despises and attacks and destroys the image of God.” Read more: http://thegspl.co/1gmG4mK

Trump praises Bible and Christmas, but gets boos for insulting Rubio

Trump didn’t mention abortion — not even in the context of defunding Planned Parenthood — religious liberty, or marriage rights. He did not mention Kim Davis, the anti-gay-marriage Rowan County clerk who has drawn cheers in brief sightings at the Omni Shoreham, and who will receive an award tonight. The time that might have been spent on specific social issues was given over to a long criticism of the nuclear deal with Iran, and some repetitive attacks on the media for failing to report that he "won the debate" at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

What Does It Mean to ‘Hear From God’?

We don’t always get clear direction from God. Often, we’re called to just move forward trusting Him, even if we don’t know exactly what He’s pointing us toward. After all, God is more concerned about who we are becoming than exactly what we’re doing, so we often hear His voice in moments of conviction or assurance rather than instruction. Sometimes, we just need to hear what’s true—about ourselves or about a given situation—to obtain the comfort and freedom we desperately need.

The Cosby Conversation We’re Still Not Having

In the 1990s, Bill Cosby changed the conversation about the Black family with the sitcom “The Cosby Show.” A decade after “Good Times” took us into the hard knock inner-city life of the Evans family and “The Jeffersons” had us all “movin’ on up,” the Cosby Show taught us there was a middle-class opening up to African Americans. The show provoked a lot of debate. How “Black” was The Cosby Show? Did Cosby put forth an idealized life beyond the reach of most Black families? Or was it a triumph not only in television but in the lived experience of the growing Black middle class? That was the first “Cosby conversation.”

Evangelist Billy Graham May Get a Statue in the U.S. Capitol

Late last week, North Carolina lawmakers approved a plan to build a statue of the state’s most famous son inside the Capitol. According to federal law, each state may contribute two statues that reflect a significant part of the state’s history. In the proposal, Graham's likeness would replace one of former N.C. governor Charles Aycock, who had ties to the white supremacist movement. One of the only guidelines for the state is that the person honored with the statue is no longer living. With Graham's health declining, those behind the project hope it will be a fitting memorial of the preacher who consistently appears atop the nation's "most-admired" lists. The bill now heads to Governor Pat McCrory for final approval. In addition, lawmakers voted to request that the U.S. Postal Service honor Graham with a stamp.

http://conference.thegospelcoalition.org/2016

We invite you to the conference for women, but not all about women. It's a gathering of women around the Word of God. To this third TGC Women's Conference, we come joyfully but soberly, knowing that suffering meets us at every hand, right at home and all across the globe. What better book for us in 2016 than 1 Peter—packed with gospel perspective on our short lives. It's a little epistle, but it gives us a big view of who we are in Christ and how we are to live as redeemed sojourners in this world. How do we stand firm in God's true grace? How do we offer a strong shining witness to Jesus Christ even in the midst of fiery trials? Peter points us insistently to the Lord Jesus, to his suffering on our behalf, and to the resurrection life he makes possible for those who believe in him. At TGCW16 we won't be getting away from real life; we will be seeing it clearly, in light of gospel help and hope. By God's grace, we will go away better prepared to live and share resurrection life, in a world of suffering.

Why Believe That Jesus Is The Only Way?

Many Christians today don’t have a firm grasp on what the Bible says about Jesus. Was He just a wise man? A prophet? Douglas Groothuis presents biblical evidence for Christ’s lordship. Spiritually Incorrect “I love Jesus,” exclaimed a woman in the audience, “but He never wanted anyone to worship Him!” As I looked at the group of about thirty people, I saw nods of agreement and heard rumblings of approval. Another member of the panel discussion that I was on said, “I find the way of Jesus helpful, but I can’t exclude anyone’s spirituality outside of Christianity.” Someone else in the audience declared that Jesus was only a prophet and that the Quran was more important than the New Testament. These comments were offered during a panel discussion on “spirituality.” Two of the other panelists were from a theological seminary where Jesus is not acknowledged as Lord and the Bible is not respected as God’s written communication to humanity. Another panelist repeatedly said all religions teach that we are one with God.

Do Millennial Christians Have the Strongest Faith of Any Generation?

I'm in my 20's and I know I definitely know more theology than my parents. It may be because in the west and first world we are more and more confronted by a world that challenges our faith and the purpose of faith. For example in my catholic high school we were taught evolution in biology class, and in religion we were taught how it was compatible with our faith. Christians who were secular educated would have to research that on their own and by doing so would probably be exposed to more complex theology. Sadly many young people would rather take the easy/simple road and dismiss it all. It can be easy because these days we have endless distractions from questions about the Ultimate and we are surrounded by others who are also on the easy road.

Let's De-Mythologize Church Culture

DRURY: Currently Christians in the U.S. do not have to worry about the level of persecution that the Church experienced many times throughout history or that much of the Church around the world today still experiences. However, there are some concerning trends in the U.S. As of now, our churches have not had to change their practices in the face of Supreme Court rulings. However, nonprofits and Christian educational institutions have had their religious practices of conviction threatened. We should not be shrill about such threats, but to ignore these issues is to betray a lack of care and attention that is required to be not only faithful stewards but also good Christian American citizens, who believe these rights of the religious should be protected by the First Amendment.

23 Unarmed Pastor and Congregants Stop Church Shooter

The heroic actions of a pastor and several members of Oasis Tabernacle Church in Selma, Alabama saved several lives this Sunday morning. Pastor Earl Carswell, 61, was shot in the leg while subduing a man named James Junior Minter, who police say walked into the service with the intention of shooting his girlfriend and infant son. The two were both injured—the woman was shot in the shoulder and the baby in the hand—but thanks to actions of Carswell and several members of the church who were able disarm Minter, they are expected to survive. Police were able to catch the alleged shooter shortly after he fled the church. A police officer told reporters, "There were several heroes in there. It takes a lot when you have someone with a firearm that's actually firing upon a person in a closed-quarters area, and you do whatever you can with regards to your own life to protect someone else's life."

6 reasons church is not optional for seminary students

Whenever I hire a staff member, I will always get around to asking what he did in seminary. Where did he go to church? How did he serve when no one was paying him to do the job? If the Holy Spirit and a man’s calling don’t compel him to love and serve the church, he won’t do it well for a paycheck either.

As a pastor, I’m grateful for the role this book will play in cultivating true worship in our church. As a Christian, I’m grateful this book challenges me to live my entire life delighting in, exalting, and serving the Savior. 7 crucial reasons why a pastor’s spiritual life matters to his church

Pastor, your spiritual health matters to your church. Your pursuit of Christ impacts your people. You know this, of course, but does your daily schedule reflect it? When you allocate time and energy toward the spiritual disciplines, do you do so with a view toward what is at stake? God’s sovereign purposes are not dependent on your maturity, of course, but the New Testament often speaks of the significance of a pastor’s spirituality to the health of his congregation. Consider the following seven reasons motivation for the pursuit of godliness and guides to praying for your own growth.

WORLD | Overdrawn Banksy | Andrée Seu Peterson | Oct. 3, 2015

These indeed may be the first to see when emperors have no clothes. Comments on Dismaland seem to break even between those who call it prophetic and those who say things like “Somebody needs to go to the real Disneyland.” The official brochure promises: “Are you looking for an alternative to the soulless sugar-coated banality of the average family day out? ... escape from mindless escapism.” But the grounds are crammed with clichés (there is a Grim Reaper in a dodgem car) that are the stock-in-trade of many a hackneyed social critic—which is banality too.

WORLD | Weekend Reads: Rediscovering Cotton Mather | Russ Pulliam | Sept. 26, 2015

But in 2015, the life of Cotton Mather offers another benefit. America is moving from a time when many people looked to the Bible, sometimes seriously, others times nominally or by memory of a childhood Christian influence. American culture has shifted in recent years, at least to where the dominant influence is much more post-Christian than it was 25 years ago. Given those shifts in our culture, Kennedy’s life of Cotton Mather takes on added value for our times.

The Son of God and the New Creation

All that remains is to ask, “What’s the connection between the Son’s resurrection and the new creation?” Goldsworthy’s answer is simple: the Son’s resurrection is the beginning of the new creation. Indeed, the themes of resurrection and new creation both point to the same reality. They point to the undoing of the deadly curse that’s enveloped creation ever since the fall. Or, to put it more sharply, they point to the last Son succeeding where the first son failed (Rom. 5:15–19; 1 Cor. 15:20–24; cf. Luke 3:28). The first son’s fall doesn’t lead God to scrap creation, but to restore it through a greater Son.

Does the Bible say that you should forgive someone who does not repent?

Next, it is clear that God does not forgive without repentance. This doctrine is taught in a number of texts. For example, in Luke 13:3 Jesus says, “unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” In Mark 1:15 John the Baptist commands that we must “repent and believe the Gospel.” The connection between repentance and forgiveness of sins (i.e. “salvation”) is seen throughout the Scriptures. For example, in Acts 2:38 repentance is directly connected as a condition for the remission of sins. For additional examples of this connection see Matthew 11:20-24; Luke 24:45-49; Acts 3:19; 8:22; 17:30-31; Romans 2:4-5; II Corinthians 7:10; II Tim. 2:25-26.
