Lay Aside the Weight of Irritability

Our irritability never has its roots in the soils of righteousness. It springs out of the soil of selfishness and springs up fast, like the sin-weed that it is. We get irritated or easily provoked, not when God’s righteousness or justice is scorned, but when something we want is being denied, delayed or disrupted. It works like this:

2
God's Sufficient Grace

Sufficiency. Paul was content with God’s decision because he knew that God would supply sufficient grace for his trial. “He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you’ ” (v. 9). “He has said” is in the perfect tense in the Greek text, implying that every time Paul prayed, God said the same thing and kept on saying it. “My grace is sufficient for you” was his standing answer. After three times, Paul dropped the request. This was not a sign that Paul gave up on God, but that he rested in God’s sufficient grace.

Faithful Thinkers: Book Review- Can Man Live Without God?

Introduction Can Man Live Without God ( Kindle Edition ) is a treatment by Ravi Zacharias of the philosophical issue of meaning and the psychological issue of despair. The book is separated into three parts and spans 179 pages. This review is intended to give a chapter-by-chapter summary of the contents of the book, but the review only scratches the surface of Zacharias' intent of the book. Part 1: Antitheism Is Alive And Deadly Chapter 1: Anguish in Affluence Zacharias begins the book by setting a foundation for the reason behind the book and his philosophical method. He shows how a person's view of God influences that person's entire life- from what they believe about everything else to how they act. If they get their understanding of God incorrect, then their beliefs and actions will be antithetical to reality. He also shows that he believes philosophy takes place on three levels: through logic- and reason- based arm-chair theory, through the emotional artistic productions, and through everyday, practical, "dinner table" application. He appeals to each by using the first for raw argumentation, the second for illustration and examples, and the third for relevance to our lives.

Come Reason's Apologetics Notes: Why the Darwinist Version of Life's Origin is Anti-Science

P.Z. Myers, the acerbic evolutionary biologist, atheist, and blogger is certainly no friend to those arguing for God's existence. However, he did side with at least one point that creationists argue for when debating the concept of life and its origin: Darwinists who claim that the theory of evolution has nothing to do with origin of life "is a cop-out."  An older post at his blog Pharyngula , he writes: #15 is also a pet peeve: "Evolution is a theory about the origin of life" is presented as false. It is not. I know many people like to recite the mantra that "abiogenesis is not evolution," but it's a cop-out. Evolution is about a plurality of natural mechanisms that generate diversity. It includes molecular biases towards certain solutions and chance events that set up potential change as well as selection that refines existing variation. Abiogenesis research proposes similar principles that led to early chemical evolution. Tossing that work into a special-case ghetto that exempts you from explaining it is cheating, and ignores the fact that life is chemistry.

Should Christians support a ban on embryonic stem cell research? Support for this proposition was largely influenced by celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Nancy Reagan, […]

Progressive Evangelicals Launch Campaign To Persuade Other Christians To Back Same-Sex Marriage

“We still haven’t arrived at a sea change among evangelicals, but the tone and passion around the issue of civil marriage equality has certainly been changing as more evangelicals are accepting that same-sex marriage will soon be the law of the land, whether they are pleased about it or not,” Vines said. “I think they have a chance to persuade more evangelicals to lay down their arms in this culture war battle that has been so harmful to the primary mission of the church.”

Audacity: Ray Comfort's First Scripted Short Film

Ray Comfort : For the most part, homosexuality has been embraced as morally acceptable in contemporary culture. Sexual sin was once frowned upon, but in time, it’s become accepted as the norm by our sinful world. As Christians, we’ve come to terms with fornication and adultery but we bristle at the thought of homosexuality gaining a similar foothold, so we put up a battle. We have concern that fornicators will not enter Heaven, but that concern has waned for homosexuals. Instead, we are more disturbed that they are destroying the fabric of our Judeo-Christian society. “Audacity” puts the focus where it should be. Author Joe Dallas rightly said, “Our response should show interest and concern, two qualities the church has rarely shown when dealing with homosexuality. We must admit we have mishandled the issue in many ways: we have veered between ignoring the problem to becoming obsessed with it, we have made hasty and false generalizations at times about homosexuals themselves, and we have shown a tremendous zeal for defeating the political goals of gays while showing less concern for their eternal well-being.

America’s Most Popular Pastor Doesn’t Know The Bible

A Monday post to his verified Facebook page, Joel Osteen ministries, read: “God said in Numbers 11:23, ‘Moses, is there any limit to My power?’ He was saying, ‘Moses, you saw Me part the Red Sea, stop the sun for Joshua, keep three Hebrew teenagers safe in a fiery furnace, don’t you realize that I can bring water without rain?’ There’s no limit to God’s power.”

He’s an ‘Anomaly’: Lecrae’s Unique Platform on Top of the Music World

That said, Christian music as a subgenre has its place. Shai Linne, another Christian hip-hop artist, has expressed his sense of calling as “making music for the church,” and the contrast between Shai (who has labeled his overall project as “Lyrical Theology”) and Lecrae (who raps about his faith, but also about everything from love to fear to sex trafficking) is a contrast in calling. Both are seeking to build a platform and reach an audience, but while Shai is aiming primarily at those in the church, Lecrae feels called to bear witness as a Christian within the broader hip-hop community. Each has its benefits and its perils; while Lecrae will be tempted with syncretism, Shai will be tempted by Phariseeism. Both need God’s spirit and God’s mercy in order to do their work with integrity.

Your faith protects you from such attacks when you elevate God's will above Satan's in your life. When tempted by Satan, Jesus responded by saying in effect, "I will not violate my Father's will by yielding to your devious schemes. In His own time He will feed Me, anoint Me as Messiah, and give Me the kingdoms of the world. I will not elevate your will and timing above His" (Matt. 4:1-11).

Grace to You

“The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; and to those who were selling the doves He said, ‘Take these things away; stop making My Father’s house a place of business.’ His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house will consume me’” (John 2:13–17).

Evangelical Christians often sing and preach about the blessed blood of Christ and the wonderful things it accomplishes for believers. To the uninformed ear, such language can convey the idea that Jesus’ blood had semi-magical qualities. Actually, Jesus’ blood was normal human blood, but the Bible refers to it in metaphorical terms to portray the many benefits that come to Christians because of Jesus’ death.

God's Not Dead: Atheistic Evolution Rests Upon Irrationalism and Blind Faith

Because God is not only real, but necessary, the scientist who strives to analyze and evaluate evolution must utilize universal operating features of reason. This is the case since he is employing selected universal, immutable, and infinite features using his finite mind while he is not on a proper ontic ground to account for such and he lacks a proper epistemic position to discern truth. God is boundless in His knowledge, but humans are limited creatures who can never provide the infinitely-broad operational features necessarily utilized in all scientific research. One needs God as one’s ground for reason to account for all the implicit features of rational analysis. What worldview can furnish the a priori necessities and rational tools for the analysis and communication of evolution? Christian theism delivers the epistemic ground for the a priori immutable universals utilized in science; in principle materialistic atheism cannot furnish the aforementioned ground.

Now It's Whale Hips: Another Icon of Darwinian Evolution, Vestigial Structures, Takes a Hit

Male genitalia evolve rapidly, probably as a result of sexual selection. Whether this pattern extends to the internal infrastructure that influences genital movements remains unknown. Cetaceans (whales and dolphins) offer a unique opportunity to test this hypothesis: since evolving from land-dwelling ancestors, they lost external hind limbs and evolved a highly reduced pelvis which seems to serve no other function except to anchor muscles that maneuver the penis. Here we create a novel morphometric pipeline to analyze the size and shape evolution of pelvic bones from 130 individuals (29 species) in the context of inferred mating system. We present two main findings: 1) males from species with relatively intense sexual selection (inferred by relative testes size) have evolved relatively large penises and pelvic bones compared to their body size, and 2) pelvic bone shape diverges more quickly in species pairs that have diverged in inferred mating system. Neither pattern was observed in the anterior-most pair of vertebral ribs, which served as a negative control. This study provides evidence that sexual selection can affect internal anatomy that controls male genitalia.

What Evangelicals Think About Scotland's Independence Vote

However much truth there is in that (and there is certainly some truth in it), it is a mockery of what politics is supposed to be: collective debate, agency and self-determination. This is what the Scottish referendum has felt like (even south of the border) but the corollary is that this kind of living politics comes at the cost of certainty. There are uncertainties about staying in the union (how many more powers will be devolved? What will that mean for the rest of the country? Are we headed for a federated union?) and even more uncertainties about leaving it (What currency would an independent Scotland use? What economic risks of independence? What about Trident? What about North Sea Oil?). Claim fights counterclaim. Many predict. No one knows . The only way forward, irrespective of the actual outcome of the vote, is in faith.

Democrats Block Bill to Stop Americans Who Join ISIS from Returning to US

“It seems only prudent to address this threat, and I am therefore going to be asking for unanimous consent for the Expatriate Terrorist Act or ETA of 2014, which will make fighting for ISIS, taking up arms against the United States, an affirmative renunciation of American citizenship—and I should note here that the ETA is very similar to the bipartisan legislation proposed by Senators Joe Lieberman and Scott Brown in 2010 to address Americans who were joining al Qaida overseas, notably the radical cleric Anwar al Awlaki, or here at home, like Faisal Shahzad, who attempted to blow up a car bomb in Times Square.

What Jesus Didn’t Say

I am familiar with theologies that distinguish among the ceremonial, civil, and moral. I also familiar with feminist and gay theologies. I don’t care about what the theology says — I want to know what the Bible says. When you make a distinction among ceremonial, civil, and moral codes, you’re making a distinction that the Bible’s authors never did. There’s a reason why there’s no boundaries in the Bible between these 3 arbitrary categories you define– you’ll find them all interspersed with each other. When Jesus says, “Do not think I’ve come to abolish the law”, He doesn’t then say, “I say that you are to through Old Testament scripture, and carefully and prayerfully mark each verse as either ceremonial (C1), civil (C2), or moral (M). And when you are done, truly I tell you, you can then disregard anything that is marked as ‘C'”.

5 Reasons Senate Control May Not Be Decided on Election Day

A longer shot would be someone like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), one of the more conservative members of the Democratic caucus. It's possible that after this election, he will be the only Democrat in the Mountain State's congressional delegation, and it's also possible that his state's House of Delegates (the lower chamber of the state legislature) will flip to the Republicans for the first time since 1928. Additionally, we've heard rumblings that Manchin's own numbers are not as strong as they used to be, and he might sense the political winds shifting in his state as he eyes a reelection bid in 2018 — or a return to the governor's office in 2016.

Former Today Show Anchor Reveals Dark Past; Survivors Say Leaving Abusive Relationships Is 'Complicated'

"Now this is going on. I'm a smart woman. A lot of people say who would stay in that situation; maybe someone who doesn't have the wherewithal to get out, the means to get out. I had that. I had a job at the time and I kept in this relationship and I've done a lot of thinking about why and I think part of it was fear. I was scared of him and scared that if I tried to leave something worse could happen to me. Part of it was guilt because every time we would have a fight he would then start crying and say I promise I won't do it again and then I would feel like I contributed somehow to this and they're saying this about Ray Rice's wife that you know, it takes two to tango," she said.

44 The Fierce Fruit of Self-Control

And how does the Spirit produce this fruit of self-control in us? By instructing us in the superior preciousness of grace, and enabling us to see and savor (that is, "trust") all that God is for us in Jesus. "The grace of God has appeared . . . instructing us to deny . . . worldly desires . . . in the present age" (Titus 2:11). When we really see and believe what God is for us by grace through Jesus Christ, the power of wrong desires is broken. Therefore the fight for self-control is a fight of faith. "Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called" (1 Timothy 6:12).

Sexual Complementarity in Genesis 1:27

Human sexuality is hotly disputed today, with many now contending that “gender” is a set of learned behaviors that have no intrinsic basis in a person’s sex. The idea is that being born with male body parts doesn’t require a male to obey Paul’s command to “act like men” (1 Cor 16:13), just as being born with female body parts would not require a female to be ladylike (cf., though, 1 Cor 11). Telling a boy not to act like a girl is offensive to those who conform to prevailing opinion in our culture, which would also teach children that “transgender” is normal.

WORLD | Darwin on the rocks | Daniel James Devine | Oct. 4, 2014

The impression I get from Darwinists is that a few mutations can produce a new body plan or organ. True? Every time you have a new body plan you need new types of tissues and new types of organs. New tissues and organs require new types of cells, and new cells require dedicated proteins for building those cells. For example, many of the Cambrian animals had guts, and guts require digestive enzymes—and other enzymes to regulate the way the digestive enzymes work. When you get a new animal you need new proteins, and new proteins are built from the instructions on the DNA molecule. So the Cambrian explosion is not just an explosion for new body plans, it’s actually an explosion of information: Where did that information come from?
