Google Maps Launches Campaign to Protect Elephants in Kenya

If you’ve ever wanted to see wild elephants up close, here's your chance (sort of). Google has partnered with the Save the Elephants research camp in Kenya to create new Street View areas at the Samburu National Reserve, showing where the elephants live. They also made a short film (the trailer is below) about the area, the elephants who call it home and the threats they face. According to google, in a recent two year period alone, more than 100,000 elephants in Africa were killed to obtain their ivory. They write, “Today, a visit to Samburu is a chance not only to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, but also discover a uniquely beautiful landscape where people’s live are interwoven with the landscape’s wildlife.” You can go here to see the film and explore the park—while looking at images of the actual elephants—all through Google Street View.

In the video below, he did every single step of the preparation process—from harvesting wheat and making cheese to pickling cucumbers and collecting honey—over the course of six months. So how did his “homemade” creation taste? According an extremely unimpressed Andy after the first bite: “It’s not bad.”

2 A Response to the Reformation Project - Stand to Reason Blog

Scripture, TRP is claiming, is actually silent on the idea that males were made by God as the appropriate sexual complement to females (the “normative doctrine of gender complementarity”). Rather, “the focus in Genesis 2 is not on the complementarity of male and female, but rather on the similarity of male and female, over and against the created animals. The ‘one flesh’ union spoken of in Genesis 2:24 connotes not physical complementarity, but a kinship tie.”…

But Fiorina’s most effective moment of the night came as she launched a withering attack on Planned Parenthood and the U.S. government’s funding of the abortion behemoth. After daring Democratic contender Hillary Clinton to watch the undercover videos recently released by the Center for Medical Progress, Fiorina forcefully added: “Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain. This is about the character of our nation, and if we will not stand up and force President Obama to veto this bill, shame on us.”

A Survey of Church History Part 5, New from W. Robert Godfrey

If we want to understand ourselves and our churches, we need to know where we’ve been. Despite rising Darwinism, growing liberalism, a wave of revivalism, and many other tremendous challenges, the 19th century was a time of fervent missionary endeavor and a growing Church. In this series, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey surveys the remarkable landscape of the 19th century, illuminating the failures and triumphs of that age and helping us understand the opportunities and challenges of our own day. This series is now available for purchase as a DVD, CD, download, or Ligonier Connect course from .

You have not heard a plan about Iran from any politician up here, here’s my plan. The second to the supreme leader, to tell him, unless and until he opens every military and every nuclear facility to real any time, anywhere inspections by our people, not his, we the United States of america will make it as difficult as possible to move money around the global financial system, we can do that, we don’t need anyone’s cooperation to do it, and every ally and every adversary we have in this world will know that the United States of America is back in the leadership business, which is how we must stand with our allies. What I Learned About God From Psych Ward Patients

Given that you were working with a vulnerable population, knowing the people and not just their issues as you say, I am very disappointed by the way you describe these people. By calling them "a drunk" "klepto" "psychotic sex feind"? This is not delicate language, and you are dealing with real people who have very real and delicate problems. You talk about how this experience was humbling for you, but your language is dehumanizing to the people involved, and it sounds like you are using them to tell a cool story rather than caring about who they are as people.

How the Dating Scene Became Stacked Against Women

His research showed that, yes, there are more single, college-educated women than men in the United States, particularly in major cities. He attributes the “man deficit” to a number of factors. The Baby Boom of the 1940s, combined with the long-held convention of men marrying younger women, created a situation where multiple younger women were available for each man. Then, in recent decades, women began to outnumber men in college, skewing the dating scene further in men’s favor.

How Do We Stop Weaponizing Our Victims?

Instead, we are set free to care for the victims as people , for their own sake and the sake of the One whose Image they bear, instead of as pawns in our schemes. Indeed, it opens us up care for more than we had before, since we’re no longer caught up in weighing the victims, making sure we’re working for the “right sort”, the respectable victims who pull up their pants and have don’t have the wrong kind of past. We don’t have to be moralistic advocates. We don’t have to worry about whether or not admitting the evil they’ve suffered plays into our opponents’ hands because, in light of Jesus’ death and resurrection, it’s not about winning anymore.

Is Christianity Intolerant? - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

Here is a for instance: Most people in the US believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. It’s not that same gender’s aren’t good enough to be married, it’s that same genders are incapable of being married (the view of one side). Obviously the LGBT community disagrees with this. So if the majority of a state vote against same-sex marriage, the LGBT community will have to “tolerate” the decision, in other words endure it while disagreeing with it. If the majority of a state vote for same-sex marriage, then the other side will have to “tolerate” or endure the decision while disagreeing with it. But here’s the catch: to those states who have voted in favor of same-sex marriage, many Christian based businesses that market themselves to the wedding industry have found themselves in hot water, legally mandated to service to same-sex couples getting married or suffer dire consequences. This is the case that I believe Frank is making. Both sides need to be tolerant of each other. So to the Christian based business, they must endure that same-sex marriage are legally becoming the norm, while the LGBT community must endure that Christian based business will refuse to service a same-gender wedding, while still offer services to someone who is openly homosexual, which is not discriminatory since the decline of services is in regard to an idea (marriage) and not an individual (a homosexual person).

How to Reach Your Friends Who Don’t Believe

I agree with a lot of this but I've found that Holy Spirit is the best evangelist, he knows exactly what the person needs to hear and if we're listening, amazing things can happen. Most of the entire Bible defies logic and reason and God does that on purpose, but sometimes Paul reasoned with people and they believed, other times it was a prophetic word or a healing or word of knowledge that made people feel known and loved by God. We need to listen closely to Him to know what to do. Also, none of any of this really works if real love towards a person isn't at the root of it, which needs to be cultivated and developed with God on your own time. Yes God gave us powerful brains and gives us wisdom, but remember our weapons aren't carnal but are in the spirit! Which is freedom because we don't have to bear the immense pressure of the entire world's salvation, it's His, and we simply have the privilege of letting Him carry it through us.

5 good reasons to read the entire Bible every year

During my lengthier-than-I-first-intended career as a seminary student, I followed the same practice and after a few years, I had read through the Bible several times. The results have been massively helpful for both my walk with the Lord and the teaching and preaching ministry he has given me. More recently, comments by two of my ministry heroes, John Piper and R. C. Sproul, have encouraged me to continue this approach to Bible intake. Piper: “When all your favorite preachers are gone, and their books are forgotten, you will have your Bible. Master it.” And then, there are these manly words from Dr. Sproul: “I’ll retire when they pry my cold, dead fingers off my Bible.” Words like those encourage me to stay saturated in God’s Word. Reading through it perennially is one means of accomplishing that.

I Want to Change the World, But I Don’t Like Asking People for Money

I did over seas ministry and there are really two options at the end of the day. #1 is Raise support. I still think when people simply pray for support they are still raising it because most will put financial issues in their news letters and tour around speaking at churches. Honestly, if you are making the need for money known to prospective supporters you are raising support whether you admit it or not. The second option is commonly called tent-making which comes from Paul's profession on his missionary journeys. This seen as more respectable by some, but it limits the time and effort the Christian Service worker can devote to ministry, but at times can also aide the ministry if kept in balance. Teaching English is one that can be throughout the world and certifications can be easily obtained if you are will to pay and study for the opportunity. There is third option though which is to pray only without making financial needs known supporters or anyone, but God. I've never met a Christian service worker who was able to do this though even though I have seen some amazing things.

Broadway Loses Faith With Amazing Grace; New Musical Sets Closing Date

After struggling with low grosses for some time, the sweet sound of Josh Young, Erin Mackey, Tony winner Chuck Cooper and more will no longer be heard in Amazing Grace on Broadway. Directed by Gabriel Barre and featuring music and lyrics by Christopher Smith and a book by Smith and Arthur Giron, the production will shutter at the Nederlander Theatre on October 25. The new musical began previews on June 25 and officially opened on July 16. At time of closing, the show will have played 24 previews and 114 regular performances. Amazing Grace is based on the true story behind the beloved song. A tale of romance, rebellion and redemption, the show follows one man whose incredible journey ignited a historic wave of change that gave birth to the abolitionist movement. John Newton (Young), a willful and musically talented young Englishman, faces a future as uncertain as the turning tide. Coming of age as Britain sits atop an international empire of slavery, he finds himself torn between following in the footsteps of his father—a slave trader—and embracing the more compassionate views of his childhood sweetheart (Mackey).

Tough Love for the Black Church

T he black church has long stood as a pillar in the black community in the United States. For centuries, it has served as the theological, political, and social center of black life in America. But there are growing concerns from within about its present health and future prospects. As debates rage about an enduring legacy of racism in the United States and Christians’ response, Thabiti Anyabwile, who pastors a church in a black community in southeast Washington, D.C., has written a heartfelt plea for spiritual renewal in Reviving the Black Church: A Call to Reclaim a Sacred Institution (B&H Books). John C. Richards Jr., founding editor of Urban Faith magazine and author of The Tenacity of Hope , spoke with Anyabwile about why he celebrates—and critiques—the institution that has nurtured him over so many years.

3 Things That Happen When We Face Our Fears

As we resist ignoring our anxieties and begin to hand them over to God, our instincts change. We choose to fight back with hope-infused joy. The hope that the Creator of it all has it all—even our fears—in His mighty hands leads us straight to the foot of the cross, where anxious thoughts lose their power and where inexplicable joy and peace is found.

If My Work Can Be Used for Evil, What Should I Do?

On Tuesday we talked about paying taxes to a government that funds abortions. Today the question is different, though somewhat related, in the ethical entailments of proximity. The question comes to us from Adam in Sydney, Australia, who asks, “Pastor John, as a software developer I worry my code could end up running a porn site or a war plane in the future. Do developers of new technologies have responsibilities over how an innovation may be re-applied for evil in the future? I think of examples like nuclear science and the atom bomb, or more a contemporary example would be artificial intelligence and sexually submissive robotics.” What advice do you have for Adam?

What is God calling me to? Your past could be key to your future

In fact, my first three years in school were marked by vocational uncertainty. I could tell you what I didn’t believe God’s call on my life entailed, but I couldn’t tell you what it did mean. I was certain I wasn’t called to be a pastor. I thought maybe it was to some sort of educational ministry but at that time my understanding of such a thing was limited to the educational minister that I had observed in our most recent church home. That sense of calling, however, wasn’t out of conviction. It was out of default. I just didn’t know what else was out there. As I learned more, I began to question more. What is it that God’s called me to do?

March for Life Exempt From Birth Control Mandate

“March for Life has been excised from the fold because it is not ‘religious.’ This is nothing short of regulatory favoritism,” Judge Leon wrote. “What HHS claims to be protecting is religious beliefs, when it actually is protecting a moral philosophy about the sanctity of human life.” Leon said the federal regulations for coverage of contraception violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.

Whole As Whole Can Be: Dieting While Loving Ourselves and Our Neighbors

Two hours after my artfully arranged lunch and here I am, miserably hungry, sipping iced green tea and dreaming about scones. I smooth my T-shirt over my shorts and try to think loving thoughts about my overweight body. I don’t want to dwell on how I’ve landed smack-dab in the middle of America’s complicated tension over food and bodies. We are a nation of overeaters and dieters, of workout obsessives and “fat acceptance” advocates, and I find myself somewhat lost in the perspectives on what it means to feel good and look good. I want to be healthy and happy, but I want it to be based in something deeper than appearences.

Studies Show Babies Understand Skype

According to Elisabeth McClure of Georgetown University, “Babies are very sensitive to eye contact, physical contact, pointing at things, and all of those can be compromised.” Because of this, they can tell the difference between the responsiveness of a person on Skype and a character on a TV show. "Really tiny babies pick up on the social responsiveness of a person," says Georgene Troseth of Vanderbilt University. “If there’s something wacky about it, it bothers them.”

How Can Evangelicals Embrace Trump?

Simple, perhaps. Even simplistic. Simplistic enough for simpletons, in fact. When you have someone talk about “action” by a President in the same breath as putting “a stick in the spinning spoke”, and after eight years of nothing BUT sticks in spokes, you know you are not engaged in a rational dialogue with a citizen, but rather primal cry of resentment by a mob. Then again, the fault is in the GOP leadership, who pose and preen and enrage without any sense of responsibility. If you promise that merely by shutting the government down, you can bring Obama to his senses and the Democrats to their knees; if, ignoring the structure of the United States government, you keep voting to repeal something that you know will not be repealed without at least the cooperation of the President who brought it into being in the first place; when, instead of governing, you bring law suits, and instead of legislative action, you promise gridlock; if your entire legislative policy is “oppose Obama” regardless of what is at issue; and the highlight of your political achievement is a washout actor speaking to an empty chair – why, I can see why this GOP voter is enraged.
