This Unbelievable Artist Draws Things That Look 3-D

Nikola Čuljić, a 30-year-old artist in Serbia, makes two-dimensional drawings that look like they were expertly done in 3-D. Čuljić's profiled on Bored Panda, a website filled with people's art, design and photography work, revealed that he has only been drawing for less than three years. "I started drawing portraits and it was hard ... so I decided to draw something different, something [rare]." Čuljić also said he uses colored pencils, markers and pastels. Check out this video Čuljić compiled featuring him spinning the finished pieces around to prove they really are just two-dimensional.

Watch the Intro to ‘Stranger Things’ Reimagined as a Cheesy ‘80s Sitcom

Netflix’s hit sci-fi series Stranger Things manages to capture the style and charm of ‘80s cinema while avoiding all of the goofy cliches that have made some of the decades most popular pop-culture relics not age so well. But that hasn’t stopped a YouTube genius named Tim Bennett from reimagining the series as a corny ‘80s sitcom. This new and improved intro perfectly captures everything you love to hate about ‘80s TV: Cheesy theme songs, overly long intros that feel the need to introduce every single character and lots of jump cuts. And just in case you need a refresher on the source material for this work of mash-up nostalgia brilliance, here’s two of the ‘80s best/worst openers.

2 Being a Lifeguard at the Olympic Pool Is Officially the Most Chillax Job Ever

We can’t all have exciting jobs. If we’re honest with ourselves, we’ve all had slow days at work, and have had to fight boredom at the office. But, there’s a good chance your job has never been as chill as this clearly bored lifeguard , who, for some reason, is watching over the best swimmers on planet earth.

3 The Briefing 08-08-16 - AlbertMohler.com

Well, react is right and to this issue in particular. The two announcements that are related to this technology that came from the National Institutes of Health this past week remind us that we are living in a generation facing questions no previous generation has ever confronted. And this includes the huge question from a Christian theological and biblical worldview of whether or not we can actually say no to any scientific proposal or to any technology. One of the interesting things behind this is that, of course, there is huge money to be made in these new technologies. If there were to be the possibility of creating a new line of donor organs that wouldn’t have to come from human beings, but rather from genetically modified animals, there would be a massive good in that, morally speaking, but there would also be a massive opportunity for multibillion-dollar profits. One of the arguments that comes thereafter is this: if it won’t be done here, it will be done elsewhere. After all, the National Institutes of Health is the national endowment in terms of health science research for the United States of America.

The Cost of Nondiscipleship

Instead of walking away, climb. Climb whatever sycamore you must in order to get a glimpse of Jesus. Christ is the real gain (Philippians 3:8). Christ is the real treasure (Matthew 13:44). The Spirit causes a treasure-transfer to happen as we look to Jesus. Look until you see him. Ask, seek, knock (Luke 11:9). Climb. And when you see him, like Zacchaeus, you will with joy give away what used to capture your heart rather than lose the treasure of Christ.

If He Does Not Love Jesus, He Will Not Love You

God still made Eve for Adam, even though Adam had God. This shows that the male/female relationship is important and beneficial. But since the fall, we have to be mindful of sin’s pitfalls — ways in which we exalt the gift above the Giver, the seen above the Unseen, the relationship above the Relationship. If you want your boyfriend to turn into a husband who loves you like Christ, make sure he is walking with Christ. How else can he love you like him?

Five Natural Ways to Get to the Gospel

Categories are so helpful for me when I’m talking with people about Jesus. Consider these common categories or starting places for the next time you’re in conversation with a not-yet-believing friend or stranger. If you listen carefully, you’ll likely hear one of these five themes emerge, at least in some form. If we think and pray carefully through how the gospel addresses each, we will be that much more effective at helping unbelievers we love see their need for Jesus.

So you want to be a pro-choice Christian? Here’s what you need.

Allow me to begin by saying that this is not a post about politics, although, it certainly does have major implications for political platforms. We have public figures at all levels of our government claiming to be both Christian and pro-choice. I came across an article this past week in which someone claimed that their Christian faith is what led them to become an abortion provider. Chances are, you have people in your own circles of family and friends who profess Christianity but rally behind the pro-choice cause.

Ominous Signs for Turkish Christians

You probably know that Turkey, a key NATO ally that is 98 percent Muslim today, has deep Christian roots. The Book of Acts tells us that the followers of Jesus in Antioch, Antakya today, were the first to be called Christians. Revelation’s Seven Churches of Asia were in what is now Turkey. The first seven Ecumenical Councils in church history were held there. The magnificent Hagia Sophia in Constantinople—today, Istanbul—was one of the crown jewels of Christendom, until the city fell to the Ottomans in 1453. For the past 85 years, the Hagia Sophia, under secular rule, has been a museum, a cultural artifact of a proud Christian past. However, Muslim prayers are again being heard from within its walls.

Complaining Doesn't Change Culture. Engaging It Does.

All the time I hear and read people talking about what’s wrong with the church: “We don’t really need the church,” “This isn’t what the church is supposed to be,” “I’m not being fed,” or “It’s full of hypocrites and fakes,” yet the biggest problem is the people who care enough to complain but not enough to act. That attitude is a blight on Godly community.

Second, with that confidence, we can respect those with whom we disagree. Our Priorities Are Off When Family Is More Important Than Church

F or several years, I served in a church that was known for its commitment to world missions. Many of our college kids were called into full-time cross-cultural ministry, including a bright young man named Bill. The reaction of his parents, however, caught Bill by surprise. His family had supported missionaries financially, prayed for them, and even fed them Sunday lunch when they were on furlough from the field. But the idea of their son giving his life to overseas missions was too much for Bill’s parents. They wanted Bill to find steady employment and raise a nice Christian family—one that supports missions, of course—like they had.

A Better Way to Think About Relationships Than 'I Kissed Dating Goodbye'

We need to begin in safe, vulnerable conversations. I didn’t find a pathway to healing without great friends, a handful of mentors and tear-stained journal pages. If I were to be honest, there were even a handful of men who helped me work through a lot of these topics. If I had hid my feelings, shame or fears from them—I wouldn’t be whole and healthy today. Even if it’s messy, even if it’s just with one friend—be wise, but start honest about your disappointments, hurts or frustrations with “dating.”

20 http://truthbomb.blogspot.com/2014/07/is-apologetics-practical.html

Many times it is necessary for the Christian case maker to make an apologetic for apologetics.  We must be equipped to defend and persuade fellow believers that apologetics is vital and biblical. I recall once sitting across the desk of a pastor who said, "Apologetics is useful, sure, but I am meeting with men and women who's marriages are falling apart.  How is apologetics going to help me then?" At the time I didn't have an answer for him and I actually thought the point was a valid one.  However, one day while reading the book of Titus this assumption was challenged.  In this letter to Titus the Apostle Paul is writing to give him [Titus] "personal authorization and guidance in meeting opposition, instructions about faith and conduct, and warnings about false teachers." [1] It was Paul's qualifications for elders that caught my eye.  He writes: "...holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.  For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families , teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.

All of Us Sinners, None of Us Freaks

In other words, according to the pattern of creation, chromosomes cannot be re-engineered, removed, or scrubbed from the software of our bodies. It may be possible for a trans-woman to “pass” for a woman on the street at the visual level, but it is not possible for a man to morph himself into a biological woman, with all the experiences and functions of natural femaleness. The biological narrative doesn’t exist. While medical advances make it possible to suppress or change some of the outward appearances of our bodies, and change our patterns of speech and dress, it is not possible to raze our bodies to the ground and rebuild them without shortcutting all the essential formative experiences that make the biological gender authentic.

Libertarianism - R.C. Sproul Jr.

That is at the core of libertarianism. It’s not saying we promote or like the doing of the wrong thing, but rather it’s saying, this is not a legitimate function of the state to stop individuals from doing this wrong thing. I’ll tell you the truth. When I leave here today, I’m going to go to the grocery store. Every week, it’s my job to gather the grocery list from my girls, and I go to the store and buy all the stuff. There’s a reason for that. The reason I buy it is because I’m paying for it. I’m much more careful than my girls. I pick out the bargain brands, I buy the buy one get one free. I’m good at it, truth be told. I’m going to confess, at the top of my grocery list for today, not that I put it there, is Swiss cake rolls. This is essentially a chocolate version of a Twinkie. I’m going to buy them and let my kids eat them, in moderation, and I may have one or two for myself. Now you could argue that this is an unhealthy choice, and this is not good for us, and you’d probably be right, but do you want to make it illegal? That’s the question. Are you willing to take upon yourself the power of the sword that God gives to the state to say “You may not eat this thing because I believe it’s unhealthy.

Knowing: Faith and Reason, Part One

First, we need to turn the focus inward. The Scriptures, especially throughout Proverbs, are explicit to instruct that humans must grow in knowledge, especially knowledge about God. Wisdom in the Christian text is called “supreme” and is worth obtaining though “it cost you everything you have.” (Proverbs 4:7) Pause and think on that statement for a moment. Let God’s Word instruct you; perhaps look up the passage in different translations. Now, consider this: are you gaining wisdom in a way that demonstrates its supremacy in your life? Would people around you testify that you have this attitude? If your answer is either negative or uncertain, than think about how you are coming across to those who do not believe in God. While I adamantly disagree with a wholesale condemnation on Christians as uncritical thinkers—as grossly false—I can also recall many Christians who portray this very trait…as well as many professing atheists or Muslims.

Meet the Rio Olympians Who Put God Before Gold

“Knowing that I’m a child of God and that his love for me is determined by nothing I can achieve or do on my own has given me a quiet confidence,” DiRado told CT. “My faith has helped me chart my own course and pursue my goals when people around me may be going in different directions. Jesus’ love for me and all humanity is something that always helps me better love people around me when things get difficult.” When asked what she thinks God does care about as she prepares for Rio, DiRado replied, “I think God cares about my soul and whether I’m bringing his love and mercy into the world. Can I be a loving, supportive teammate, and can I bless others around me in the same way God has been so generous with me?” The California native is projected to medal in at least two of her events.

How to Do Apologetics without Fear or Aggression

Led by experts on worldview, Christian leadership, and culture, this camp provided training for young Christians who wanted to know how to defend their faith—and I thrived in that environment. I was fascinated by the lectures and eagerly anticipated the next small group session, devotion, and worship session. At camp I was given tools to defend my faith, but as I tried to integrate them into my everyday life those tools eventually began to feel like weapons.

Treating the Gospel Like a Cookie Rather Than a Cure

Whenever I visit a college or university to give a presentation, I make an effort to talk with students in the local Christian groups that are active on campus. These students often discuss the apathy that seems to permeate the Christian culture in universities across America. Don’t get me wrong, there are many significant Christian clubs and organizations on campuses across America, but it’s clear from talking to the students I meet that few Christians seem to be willing to reach out and share what they believe with non-Christians on the campus. Some Christian groups are internally active, if not externally focused. Most young Christians would rather hang out with fellow Christians in a safe environment than actively evangelize the campus for Christ. If you think back to your own college experience, you probably felt the same way. Why do we hesitate to share the Gospel with non-believers? I think it’s because we treat the gospel like a cookie rather than a cure.

Remembering Marc Lee. If you’ve ever read the book or seen the movie “ American Sniper ,” the name Marc Lee may be familiar to you. He was featured prominently in both. I never met Marc Lee, but I think of him every time I speak at Summit Ministries in Manitou Springs, Colorado, which is where I spent most of last week. Summit is a two-week apologetics and worldview camp. As a teenager, Lee attended Summit twice. He later studied Bible at The Master’s College in California, considering becoming a pastor before choosing instead to become a Navy SEAL. A plaque commemorating Lee’s life is prominently displayed in the main classroom at Summit, because Marc Lee was the first Navy SEAL killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lee’s Silver Star citation (awarded posthumously) reads in part: “To protect the lives of his teammates, he fearlessly exposed himself to direct enemy fire by engaging the enemy with his machine gun and was mortally wounded in the engagement. His brave actions in the line of fire saved the lives of many of his teammates. Petty Officer Lee's courageous leadership, operational skill, and selfless dedication to duty, reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Health Is About Way More Than Weight

Our eating habits are rooted in individual motives and decisions, but there are larger forces at work in what we eat. Our preferences for sugar and salt are undoubtedly shaped by the people who make more money when we consume too much of them. A tax on sugary beverages can seem like government intervention gone too far, until you consider that it simply provides a check on the powerful commercial incentives to sell empty calories. And local governments play a crucial role in shaping the neighborhoods we live in. Design decisions at the scale of blocks, towns, and whole cities make a real difference: we will be healthier if we can walk rather than drive more often, and if healthy food is accessible to people who currently can’t afford it.

Why "The Final Apologetic" Still Matters

The last few decades have brought about a revival of the ancient art of apologetics—the skill of case-making for the truth of Christianity. It’s partly a response to the growing presence of popular atheistic arguments across the media spectrum, especially the Internet. While the Internet is a remarkable tool for learning, it also provides greater access to more poorly formed arguments against God than ever before. As apologist C.S. Lewis wrote in his book The Weight of Glory , “Good philosophy must exist, if for no other reason, because bad philosophy needs to be answered.” Though apologetics has never really ceased to exist in the church (Paul made his case before the Aeropagus in Acts 17 and King Agrippa in Acts 26, Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century gave his five proofs of God’s existence, and G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis penned their arguments in the 20th century), the current revival includes a surge of interest in directly combating the new atheist arguments.

Cotton: Clinton discussed executed Iranian scientist on email

Hillary Clinton recklessly discussed, in emails hosted on her private server, an Iranian nuclear scientist who was executed by Iran for treason, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said Sunday. I'm not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton's private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman, he said on Face the Nation. Cotton was speaking about Shahram Amiri, who gave information to the U.S. about Iran's nuclear program. The senator said this lapse proves she is not capable of keeping the country safe. That goes to show just how reckless and careless her decision was to put that kind of highly classified information on a private server. And I think her judgment is not suited to keep this country safe, he said. The revelation could cause further political damage to Clinton, who was already on the defensive Sunday after commenting oddly last week that she had short-circuited in a statement related to her honesty about the email scandal.
