This Unbelievable Artist Draws Things That Look 3-D

Nikola Čuljić, a 30-year-old artist in Serbia, makes two-dimensional drawings that look like they were expertly done in 3-D. Čuljić's profiled on Bored Panda, a website filled with people's art, design and photography work, revealed that he has only been drawing for less than three years. "I started drawing portraits and it was hard ... so I decided to draw something different, something [rare]." Čuljić also said he uses colored pencils, markers and pastels. Check out this video Čuljić compiled featuring him spinning the finished pieces around to prove they really are just two-dimensional.

These Women Celebrated Being Freed from ISIS by Burning Their Burqas

A small group of women in Manbij, Syria celebrated their liberation from ISIS control by burning their burqas. After several weeks of battle, fighters from the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces were able to push ISIS out of the city and rescue 3,000 peoople. ISIS had forced the women in Manbij to wear the garments that covered their bodies from head to toe whenever they were in public, so in the public square, they burned their burqas signifying their metaphorical and literal liberation.

Meet the Teenage Syrian Olympic Swimmer Who Saved Refugees from Drowning at Sea

Meet 18-year-old Yusra Mardini. Born in Syria, the world-class swimmer will compete with a team of 10 refugees from around the world at this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Rio, but her story of heroism is even more inspiring than her athletic achievements. As she explained to The Independent, as a child in Syria “Sometimes we couldn’t train because of the war. And sometimes you would be swimming in pools where the roofs were [blown open] in three or four places.” After years of war, she and her sister fled Syria, eventually making it to Turkey where they planned on taking a dangerous, overcrowded boat to Greece, in search of a better life in Europe. Most of the people on the boat couldn’t swim. As the paper explains, Only a half hour into their journey across the Aegean Sea, the boat’s engine broke down. Mardini and her sister—along with the only two other people on the boat who could swim—jump into the water, and pushed and pulled the boat for three hours in open water. I had one hand with the rope attached to the boat as I moved my two legs and one arm. It was three and half hours in cold water. Your body is almost like … done. I don’t know if I can describe that. Today, her and her sister live in Germany, and she is proud to not only compete in the Olympic games, but to also challenge the way the world sees refugees. She explained at a press conference: I want everyone to think refugees are normal people who had their homelands and lost them not because they wanted to run away and be refugees, but because they have dreams in their lives and they had to go. Everything is about trying to get a new and better life and by entering the stadium we are encouraging everyone to pursue their dreams.

Independent Police Review Released Video of the Police Shooting in Chicago That Killed A Black Man

Last week, Chicago police officers fatally shot Paul O'Neal, an 18-year-old black man who was suspected of stealing a car, in the back. This week, a series of videos from different bodycams and dashcams of the circumstance surrounding the shooting were released by the Independent Police Review Authority—there was no video of the actual shooting, but it can be heard. Officials have not publicly answered why there is no video of the shooting. The video shows O'Neal driving a car away from police officers who are trying to stop him by shooting at the car from various distances. His car crashes into a police vehicle going in the opposite direction and he gets out of the car and takes off running near some homes. Several police officers chase him and off-camera, he is shot in the back. Several moments later, an officer calls EMS and can be heard asking his fellow officers, "They shot at us, too, right?" O'Neal was unarmed. The family saw the videos before they were released to the public. Their lawyer, Michael Oppenheimer, told reporters that the family was too distraught to comment publicly after viewing the videos. "We just came from watching Chicago police officers execute Paul O’Neal," Oppenheimer said. "These police officers decided to play judge, jury and executioner." Three of the officers involved were stripped of their police powers, and the O'Neal family is suing the police department. Warning: The content of the video is graphic and includes explicit language.

Morgan Freeman Narrating a Random Pedestrian Is Proof He Has the Greatest Voice in Hollywood

Legendary actor Morgan Freeman recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his latest film, a new adaptation of Ben Hur, and proved once again that he has the single greatest voice in Hollywood. He is, after all, a man who has played God himself on the big-screen. The set up for the bit is pretty simple. Freeman would be shown a video feed of some random dude walking down Hollywood Blvd. and he would use his iconic voice (featured in series like Through the Wormhole and The Story of God) to narrate what was happening. The man has talent.

Here’s a First Look at Christopher Nolan’s New WWII Epic ‘Dunkirk’

We finally have our first glimpse at the latest film from director Christopher Nolan about a legendary WWII battle. The film tells the story of the Battle of Dunkirk and “Operation Dynamo,” where nearly 340,000 Allied troops were evacuated from a French beach, while being surrounded by German forces. The movie’s not only notable because of its director (Nolan’s credits include Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy), but also because of its cast: Along with Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, the movie is also the big screen debut for One Direction’s Harry Styles. Also, because this is a Christopher Nolan movie, it will be released to IMAX theaters and features a score from Hans Zimmer.

The Cost of Nondiscipleship

Instead of walking away, climb. Climb whatever sycamore you must in order to get a glimpse of Jesus. Christ is the real gain (Philippians 3:8). Christ is the real treasure (Matthew 13:44). The Spirit causes a treasure-transfer to happen as we look to Jesus. Look until you see him. Ask, seek, knock (Luke 11:9). Climb. And when you see him, like Zacchaeus, you will with joy give away what used to capture your heart rather than lose the treasure of Christ.

Five Natural Ways to Get to the Gospel

Categories are so helpful for me when I’m talking with people about Jesus. Consider these common categories or starting places for the next time you’re in conversation with a not-yet-believing friend or stranger. If you listen carefully, you’ll likely hear one of these five themes emerge, at least in some form. If we think and pray carefully through how the gospel addresses each, we will be that much more effective at helping unbelievers we love see their need for Jesus.

4
Complaining Doesn't Change Culture. Engaging It Does.

All the time I hear and read people talking about what’s wrong with the church: “We don’t really need the church,” “This isn’t what the church is supposed to be,” “I’m not being fed,” or “It’s full of hypocrites and fakes,” yet the biggest problem is the people who care enough to complain but not enough to act. That attitude is a blight on Godly community.

Our Priorities Are Off When Family Is More Important Than Church

F or several years, I served in a church that was known for its commitment to world missions. Many of our college kids were called into full-time cross-cultural ministry, including a bright young man named Bill. The reaction of his parents, however, caught Bill by surprise. His family had supported missionaries financially, prayed for them, and even fed them Sunday lunch when they were on furlough from the field. But the idea of their son giving his life to overseas missions was too much for Bill’s parents. They wanted Bill to find steady employment and raise a nice Christian family—one that supports missions, of course—like they had.

A Better Way to Think About Relationships Than 'I Kissed Dating Goodbye'

We need to begin in safe, vulnerable conversations. I didn’t find a pathway to healing without great friends, a handful of mentors and tear-stained journal pages. If I were to be honest, there were even a handful of men who helped me work through a lot of these topics. If I had hid my feelings, shame or fears from them—I wouldn’t be whole and healthy today. Even if it’s messy, even if it’s just with one friend—be wise, but start honest about your disappointments, hurts or frustrations with “dating.”

He said that instead of targeting fellow Muslims at mosques and market places, they’ll also be focusing their efforts to attack Christian humanitarian groups. He explained, “They exploit the condition of those who are displaced under the raging war, providing them with food and shelter and then Christianizing their children.”

All of Us Sinners, None of Us Freaks

In other words, according to the pattern of creation, chromosomes cannot be re-engineered, removed, or scrubbed from the software of our bodies. It may be possible for a trans-woman to “pass” for a woman on the street at the visual level, but it is not possible for a man to morph himself into a biological woman, with all the experiences and functions of natural femaleness. The biological narrative doesn’t exist. While medical advances make it possible to suppress or change some of the outward appearances of our bodies, and change our patterns of speech and dress, it is not possible to raze our bodies to the ground and rebuild them without shortcutting all the essential formative experiences that make the biological gender authentic.

Tim Keller - Your $10 Can Accelerate A Gospel-Movement

Tripling the body of Christ in New York City will take much more than a single church or a single denomination. Gaza's head of World Vision hired by Hamas to infiltrate the charity, funnelled $9.5 million a year to Hamas, Israel’s domestic security agency says

The Shin Bet said the aid group’s Gaza director, Mohammed el-Halabi, is an active figure in Hamas’ military wing. He was indicted by Israeli authorities Thursday, accused of diverting some 60 percent of World Vision’s annual budget for Gaza to Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that rules the coastal enclave. He was charged with transferring money and working with a terror group. Hamas is viewed as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States and the European Union. Israel has fought three wars with Hamas since 2009.

Treating the Gospel Like a Cookie Rather Than a Cure

Whenever I visit a college or university to give a presentation, I make an effort to talk with students in the local Christian groups that are active on campus. These students often discuss the apathy that seems to permeate the Christian culture in universities across America. Don’t get me wrong, there are many significant Christian clubs and organizations on campuses across America, but it’s clear from talking to the students I meet that few Christians seem to be willing to reach out and share what they believe with non-Christians on the campus. Some Christian groups are internally active, if not externally focused. Most young Christians would rather hang out with fellow Christians in a safe environment than actively evangelize the campus for Christ. If you think back to your own college experience, you probably felt the same way. Why do we hesitate to share the Gospel with non-believers? I think it’s because we treat the gospel like a cookie rather than a cure.

Remembering Marc Lee. If you’ve ever read the book or seen the movie “ American Sniper ,” the name Marc Lee may be familiar to you. He was featured prominently in both. I never met Marc Lee, but I think of him every time I speak at Summit Ministries in Manitou Springs, Colorado, which is where I spent most of last week. Summit is a two-week apologetics and worldview camp. As a teenager, Lee attended Summit twice. He later studied Bible at The Master’s College in California, considering becoming a pastor before choosing instead to become a Navy SEAL. A plaque commemorating Lee’s life is prominently displayed in the main classroom at Summit, because Marc Lee was the first Navy SEAL killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lee’s Silver Star citation (awarded posthumously) reads in part: “To protect the lives of his teammates, he fearlessly exposed himself to direct enemy fire by engaging the enemy with his machine gun and was mortally wounded in the engagement. His brave actions in the line of fire saved the lives of many of his teammates. Petty Officer Lee's courageous leadership, operational skill, and selfless dedication to duty, reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Is Evolution a Theory in Crisis? This Biochemist Says Yes. | The Stream

I think the best explanation is special creation of animal families with a high degree of variability built into the originating species. As speciation occurred genetic information was lost and the ability of many animals of the same family to interbreed was also lost. So in a sense, there is common ancestry but only to the extent of animals in the same family. I think that it is quite obvious there cannot be only a single common ancestor to all life, even if you exclude human life as I have seen some Christian apologist attempt to do. Humans are amongst the least varied creatures on earth with almost no inability to breed between any healthy pair, even with rh incompatibility, the pair should be able to have one healthy offspring, whereas many animals, even of the same animal families are not able to conceive. It could be that special creation accounts for any animals that are not about to interbreed, but I think speciation due to genetic information loss is a better explanation for the diversity and it could have been planned that way all along by the Designer to diversify animals.

36
http://truthbomb.blogspot.com/2014/07/is-apologetics-practical.html

Many times it is necessary for the Christian case maker to make an apologetic for apologetics.  We must be equipped to defend and persuade fellow believers that apologetics is vital and biblical. I recall once sitting across the desk of a pastor who said, "Apologetics is useful, sure, but I am meeting with men and women who's marriages are falling apart.  How is apologetics going to help me then?" At the time I didn't have an answer for him and I actually thought the point was a valid one.  However, one day while reading the book of Titus this assumption was challenged.  In this letter to Titus the Apostle Paul is writing to give him [Titus] "personal authorization and guidance in meeting opposition, instructions about faith and conduct, and warnings about false teachers." [1] It was Paul's qualifications for elders that caught my eye.  He writes: "...holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.  For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families , teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.

37
God of Love?

Increasingly today, “love” for many involves control and manipulation, seeking maximum self-gratification in return for minimum commitment. It could be argued that this is due, at least in part, to the widespread influence of atheism and naturalistic evolution in public life, particularly in schools. If children are told that there is no God, no ultimate purpose, no universal standard for moral behavior; that they are utterly insignificant, the result of chance chemical interactions on a cosmic stage; that survival of the fittest is the most important factor in the evolution and furtherance of the human race—is it really any wonder that much of society is obsessed with hedonism and violence? This approach to life is the complete opposite of what the Bible teaches about love and its associated humility, mercy, kindness, and faithfulness.

Are Mutations Part of the “Engine” of Evolution?

In the evolutionary model, mutations are hailed as a dominant mechanism for pond-scum-to-people evolution and provide “proof ” that the Bible’s history about creation is wrong. But are we to trust the ideas of imperfect, fallible men about how we came into existence, or should we believe the account of a perfect God who was an eyewitness to His creation? Let’s look at mutations in more detail and see if they provide the information necessary to support pond-scum-to-people evolution, or if they confirm God’s Word in Genesis.

Is Jesus the Creator God?

That is, God the Father, whose voice was never heard, nor his shape seen by angels or men; for though Jacob, Moses, the elders of Israel, Manoah, and his wife, are said to see God, and Job expected to see him with his bodily eyes, and the saints will see him as he is, in which will lie their great happiness; yet all seems to be understood of the second person, who frequently appeared to the Old Testament saints, in an human form, and will be seen by the saints in heaven, in his real human nature; or of God in and by him: for the essence of God is invisible, and not to be seen with the eyes of the body; nor indeed with the eyes of the understanding, so as to comprehend it; nor immediately, but through, and by certain means: God is seen in the works of creation and providence, in the promises, and in his ordinances; but above all, in Christ the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person: this may chiefly intend here, man’s not knowing any thing of God in a spiritual and saving way, but in and by Christ 11
