Lexus Unveiled Its Hoverboard, and It’s Very Disappointing

Carmaker Lexus has finally unveiled its hoverboard that it's been teasing in a series of YouTube videos, and even though we may be in the minority on this opinion, the video is extremely disappointing. The main video, like the teaser, appears to show an actual hoverboard floating freely in a concrete skatepark. In the full length video, a rider cruises around the park, floating inches off of the ground over ramps and even water. Cool, right? The problem is, it's not exactly what they would lead you to believe. A behind-the-scenes video shows that the board is actually riding on top of a hidden track that holds it in place thanks to metal and magnets. So not only does the board look super hard to ride (the pro skater in the video can barely stand on the thing), it also hardly lifts off of the ground, has to be ridden on a track and is essentially just a promotional stunt. Thanks for getting our hopes up, Lexus. Call us when we can actually re-create this scene.

Pope's Creation Teachings Nothing New for Francis Schaeffer Fans

Given the present inclination of religious conservatives towards environmental concerns—white evangelicals now consistently poll among the least concerned about such issues—it may strike some as odd that one of the first published works from the godfather of the Religious Right movement would center on matters green. Schaeffer, though, loved spending time outdoors; he mourned over human actions that marred nature’s beauty and he did not own a car for the final 36 years of his life. He was critical of philosophical elements within the then nascent environmental movement, but his solution was not the ostracism that is regularly practiced today. Instead, he called for the church to lead by example and stand as a “pilot plant” that demonstrated the “substantial healing” of creation that is possible in the here and now.

Judge Orders Bill Cosby Testify at Sex Abuse Case in October

Comedian Bill Cosby will soon have to answer questions related to sexual abuse allegations while under oath. A judge in Los Angeles has ordered that the comedian give a desposition related to a lawsuit that alleges that he sexually abused Judy Huth in 1974, when she was just 15 years old. At the deposition, he must answer questions asked by the accuser’s lawyer. Cosby has faced allegations of sexual abuse from numerous women, dating back decades. In a previous desposition—that was recently made public—Cosby admitted to sexually pursuing young women and seeking ways to obtain drugs to give them.

Planned Parenthood Does Much Good

The bill to defund Planned Parenthood explicitly stated that no less money would be allotted to women’s health care and would be redistributed among other providers. Even granting that abortion is only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does, the number is still over 300,000 abortions every year. I agree that availability of birth control and health care is important to provide, for we need to be going after the causes as well. But this is unacceptable and the rush to defend Planned Parenthood when people can literally watch tiny hands and legs getting ripped apart on video is… disturbing.

To Trump Disciples: You’re Embarrassing Conservatism and Yourselves

This problem seems to be metastasizing rapidly, and we’ve seen it manifest itself at numerous points in the last few years. It always goes like this: Some person comes along and says, like, one thing conservatives agree with, and next thing you know he or she is being hailed as the right wing messiah, and all who oppose the new savior must hand over their conservative membership cards and be cast out into the desert. It doesn’t matter if this savior is dishonest, frivolous, obnoxious, fraudulent, inarticulate, embarrassing, or for that matter profoundly liberal. All they have to do is vaguely plagiarize something conservative pundits and politicians have already said a million times since Sunday, and their status as right wing folk hero will be cemented. Indeed, even the conservatives they plagiarized must now bow or be forsaken.

BREAKING: Bentley terminates Alabama's Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood - Yellowhammer News

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (R) Thursday terminated the state’s Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood after the legitimacy of using any taxpayer dollars to fund the abortion provider was once again called into question following the release of several videos describing its harvest and sale of aborted baby organs and body parts. “The deplorable practices at Planned Parenthood have been exposed to Americans, and I have decided to stop any association with the organization in Alabama,” said Governor Bentley. “As a doctor and Alabama’s Governor, the issue of human life, from conception to birth and beyond, is extremely important to me. I respect human life, and I do not want Alabama to be associated with an organization that does not.” Yellowhammer has obtained a copy of the letter sent to Planned Parenthood CEO Staci Fox Thursday afternoon. Planned Parenthood currently receives more than $500 million annually in federal funding, mostly through Medicaid reimbursements.

The Most Misused Verse in the Bible

Thank you for this article. So many people well-intendedly use these verses to encourage others, and often it works... if people like what happens next. For each person like the commenter here who has grown through the trials of heart attacks, there are those who love Jesus but aren't commenting because their loved one, or even themselves, have died. As Christ-followers are martyred daily, and disease and violence causes suffering in Christian homes and lives as well as the lost, we need to learn to manage our expectations of God .. to truly know Him ... and really studying and understanding of Scripture does just that. Scripture is Truth. God's Truth is absolute. There are intended meanings to God's inspired Word that we are supposed to study, learn and apply. While using verses like this, Romans 8:28, 1 Cor. 10:13 or even Phil. 4:13 to encourage people in times of suffering CAN lift them up in the moment, what happens when He doesn't do what they're hoping for? What if they're child dies? What if their mom suffers horribly and painfully from cancer for years and slowly dies? These things happen daily as well.

The Sound of Silence

Kevin I wonder in this century whether any of this is still important. What constitutes church today for many Christians looks nothing like the 10 points you describe. Huge numbers of Christians have gone back to what scripture describes how we should look like and behave based on the new covenant call to us all from Jesus himself. It seems to me as believers we need to look and seem like everybody else….. (bear with me). When we follow Jesus, we are not trying to like the Jesus of 2000 years ago or like believers in the 17th , 18th , 19th or 20th centuries including rules and procedures. From what I can see He wants us to be the Jesus of today, the Jesus of here and now, the Jesus of casual cloths, who don’t use religious speak or just stick with only religious people following a set of rules covering how to do church. I’ve come to the conclusion the 21st century church can’t be a group isolating itself from the world and trying to be separate. For example the early church blended in to the surrounding culture so carefully they looked no different to anyone else. A second century AD Roman scholar and historian named Diognetus wrote this.

SJW professor making charges of racial profiling is tripped up by dashcam - Hot Air

English professor sounds a bit far afield from a diversity specialist (I assume that’s a thing now…) but who knows these days? Perhaps she was. And “sabbatical” can mean a lot of things in the education community, ranging from having been suspended for cause to taking time off to write a book. But either way, one thing is clear. Ms. Roychoudhuri was looking for a story on racial profiling to up her street credibility and, failing to find one, decided to create one starring herself. She apparently doesn’t spend much time watching the news, though, or she’d have known that cops are recording events on their rounds almost everywhere these days, often to protect themselves from just such specious accusations. So I guess these cameras are a pretty good idea after all.

Raising pro-life kids when the culture of death surrounds us

Earnest : I’m relying on news reports that I’ve seen and on people who’ve taken a look at this and raised questions about the videos themselves. And there’s no doubt that this is an organization that has targeted Planned Parenthood for some time, so they clearly have an ideological axe to grind. What we know to be true is that Planned Parenthood provides regular health care for millions of Americans across the country. And Planned Parenthood is not able to use federal funds to perform abortions. That is written into the rules. That is a rule that this administration has not just followed, but that this administration has supported. So, it’s clear that there are some ideological games being played here. And what this administration and this president has long fought for is protecting access for women for health care. And that’s exactly why we want to make sure there’s not an ideological effort to defund Planned Parenthood that provides those important health care services to women all across the country.

Raising future men and women

There are no generic people. There are men, and there are women. Consequently there are no generic Christian people. There are Christian men and there are Christian women. In Genesis 1-2, Ephesians 5, 1 Peter 3, and Colossians 3, we find clarity about the primary roles of men and women. There are differing ways in which men and women will live out the Christian life. For instance, when giving specific instruction and admonition to men, the Bible usually does so within three key categories: leading, providing and protecting. In other words, biblical masculinity involves a heart that is inclined to obey God within this particular context of leadership, provision and protection. This may take place predominantly as husbands and fathers, but it still should be cultivated, encouraged and instilled in boys as they mature into manhood.

My Weird Childhood Faith Isn’t So Weird Anymore

As I look back on my childhood, although the gifts of the Holy Spirit were dear to us and we deeply believed in their practice, the real difference was that we expected God. We wanted the wild and the untamed Spirit to disrupt us. We lived out of an assumption of God's good gifts and overwhelming love. We yearned to see the Kingdom come on earth, right here, as it was or would be in heaven. We figured that was what God wanted, too. Believing power would come from on high to see the lost found and the sick healed and imprisoned set free, our church operated on a first-name basis with the Spirit.

Yes, the Christian Worldview Is Supported by the Evidence - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

Richard Dawkins once famously said, “Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is the belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.” He’s also quoted saying, “Many of us saw religion as harmless nonsense. Beliefs might lack all supporting evidence but, we thought, if people needed a crutch for consolation, where’s the harm? September 11th changed all that.” Dawkins isn’t the only atheist who believes Christianity can’t be supported by evidence. Sam Harris said, “When considering the truth of a proposition, one is either engaged in an honest appraisal of the evidence and logical arguments, or one isn’t. Religion is one area of our lives where people imagine that some other standard of intellectual integrity applies.” Statements such as these, while they are rhetorically powerful, expose a lack of understanding about the nature of evidence. Dawkins and Harris aren’t professional case makers, and they aren’t familiar with the broad categories of evidence we use in criminal and civil trials every day.

Pastors, Counseling, and Mental Health: 6 Guidelines for Pastors to Consider

When church members struggle with mental health issues, they often first turn to their pastor for help. The pastor then has to decide what sort of counseling is appropriate for the presenting issue. Questions, such as, “Do I have training in this area?” and “What is my relationship with this individual?” should be circulating in the pastor’s mind. Some issues may warrant counseling solely conducted by the pastor, while other issues may require more expertise in mental health issues. So, how does a pastor know when engaging or continuing in counseling is appropriate or when a referral to a mental health professional should be made?

Miss & Carry: Towards a Theology of Unrealized Motherhood | The Junia Project

Cindy – It grieves me to read this and to think of the pain that your community must have caused you and your husband. Your comments do point out several things that I think shouldn’t be forgotten in this conversation. First, that miscarriage, infertility, and other types of maternal loss are something that women experience along with their husbands. It’s just as important for men to have a solid theology of this type of loss as it is for women. Secondly, you bring to light the fact that we as a church need to be mindful of the the way that we can alienate women who need compassion, with both our words and the way that we choose to celebrate motherhood. Lastly, you make the excellent point that God knows what it is like to lose his Son. I find that in itself to be immensely comforting. Thank you for reading and thank you for sharing!

The dangerous calling of Christian missions

This is, as the late Carl F.H. Henry advised, a time for evangelical demonstration. Our words of support for the missionary cause are meaningless if we do not produce a new generation of bold, courageous, and committed Christian missionaries. Let us make our convictions clear and commitments firm, even in the face of hostility and danger. Evangelical Christians must take our stand for the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, who alone has made atonement for our sins. In a day of hostility and danger, we must point to the only gospel that offers salvation. We must learn again to define the true gospel in terms of justification by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This is the sum and substance of the genuine gospel — and the true gospel is always a missionary gospel — and a gospel that is active even in the world’s most dangerous contexts.

Archaeologists Uncovered Goliath's Hometown

Archaeologists unearthed a massive gate in the Israeli village of Tell es-Safi that appears to be the entrance to Gath—as in, Goliath of Gath, the giant who stood against the Israelites (1 Samuel 17). According to NBC News , the new findings reveal just how impressive the ancient Philistine city once was. "We knew that Philistine Gath in the 10th to ninth century [B.C.] was a large city, perhaps the largest in the land at that time," Aren Maeir, an archaeologist at Bar-Ilan University in Israel told NBC’s Live Science. "These monumental fortifications stress how large and mighty this city was." It may take a long time to uncover these Gath gates because of their huge size. And here you thought the David and Goliath flannel-graph in your Sunday school classroom was impressive.

Why the Church Can’t Be Silent about Police Violence

LRP Lynda t Finally, someone nailed it. As long as we look at everything as a black and white issue, it will never be solved. In fact it is not strange that the world acts like the world. When Jesus was here He did not try to destroy the Roman Empire. In fact He said very little about the political establishment. He did however speak out against the corruption in the religious establishment. If we put all Christians on the police force it would not solve the crime problem. I wish I had a magic wand to wave and fix it all but I don't. It will only be fixed when the One who created it all in the beginning makes everything new. He will decide in His own good time and wisdom when enough is enough. Even though church folks have been forgiven, they are still capable of making mistakes. They make decisions on the spur of the moment, just like the policeman does. Sometimes those decisions are not the best and sometimes the results are terrible and someone gets hurt. Sometimes the results can be reversed and sometimes they can't. The whole human race is lost without God and only the blood of His Son can make us clean.

As a black man living in the UK I can't comprehend how the police treat US citizens much less how they treat black people. I think the old quote - evil prevails when good men do nothing - applies here. We need people every where to demand the police be held to account otherwise one day it could be you, black or white.

In 2004, I traveled to Iran with a delegation of Protestant Christians from the United States to meet with the vice president of the Iranian parliament. While in Iran, I preached at the Garden of Evangelism in Tehran, which was founded by the twentieth-century missionary William M. Miller. Over the following days, dozens of Iranian Christians told me stories of the many ways they had been persecuted. Many who had been converted to Christ from Islam had been disowned by their families, shunned and despised by their neighbors, or fired from their jobs. Some had been imprisoned, and one man’s father had even been executed. Many of my Iranian brothers and sisters expressed how they lived under the constant threat of persecution. Many told me how much they would love to live in the United States of America because it is a free country where Christians are not persecuted.
