How to Talk to Your Pastor About Apologetics |

I have heard from a number of people who have been frustrated when their church leadership does not seem interested in apologetics. You have read the books and have been to the conferences and you know how powerful apologetics can be. But when you talk to your pastor, there seems to be no interest. What …

Reasons To Believe : The Evolution of the Automobile: Evidence for Intelligent Design

In comparing Corvette models with “transitional intermediates” in the fossil record, Berra made a significant error that has become known among creationists and ID proponents as Berra’s blunder. It almost goes without saying, Berra’s mistake was to use Corvettes—machines designed by automotive engineers—as an analogy for the hominid fossil record, claiming that sequential anatomical changes among the various hominid species reflect the outworking of an unguided evolutionary process in the same way that sequential design changes to Corvettes reflect the evolution of technology. But, as pointed out at that time by several creationists and intelligent design proponents, the Corvette sequence actually tells us something about how intelligent agents sometimes create: namely, designers can attain their goals by progressively modifying existing designs. To put it another way, the chronological appearance of organisms in the fossil record displaying serial changes to their anatomical, physiological, and behavioral features could be explained as the work of a Creator who was successively producing creatures that displayed modifications of an archetypical design. In this sense, the fossil record doesn’t necessarily compel reasonable people to accept biological evolution any more than does the evolution of the American automobile.

3 Key Things Skeptics Will Say to Shame Your Kids for Being Christians

Great post! It’s interesting, too, the shaming associated with the supposed low intellect of Christians. So many atheists pride themselves on being compassionate (more than average) towards those who are different from themselves, less able, less fortunate, less privileged, in different life circumstances, and so on. EXCEPT when it comes to the sort of mental prowess they believe they have developed and harnessed in the rejection of God. Then, suddenly, the “mentally inferior” are to be mocked, scorned, demonized, and hated. There is then no real pity or empathy, only self-righteousness and smug superiority. When one sees this happening, it rather puts the lie to the other pretenses of compassion. How much better it would be if we could all admit that self-righteousness is part of human nature, not the exclusive domain of one belief system or the other. If and when our belief system is dominated by a couple of Great Virtues by which we choose to label ourselves (say, the ultimate advocates for Love or Reason, to use some popular examples), we become hardened and blind to the times that we do not in fact regularly show such virtues to our neighbor.

Six Practical Reasons ‘Free Will’ Matters

Knowing that we were dead and could not raise ourselves — and feeling it with humility and amazement — makes us patient with those who have not yet seen the glory of Christ in the gospel. It is right to summon people to see and believe. But it is also right for this summons to be made more tender and patient by the awareness that our own seeing and believing was owing to a divine miracle. We have a trembling sense that we cannot save sinners, and they cannot save themselves. Patience is the reflex of humble amazement that we ourselves are saved.

10 Our Con-Artist Brains?

Let me explain. Much of modern science uses sloppy language that seems to attribute personhood to the central nervous system, conflating matter with mind, electrical signals with thoughts, and tacitly denying free will and even consciousness. You hear it every time a speaker at a TED conference or a host on the Discovery Channel talks of our brains “wanting,” “thinking,” or “deciding” things.

What Pope Francis Needs to Know about Islam (David Wood)

Pope Francis was recently asked about violence in Islam. The Pope replied: "I don’t like to speak of Islamic violence, because every day, when I browse the newspapers, I see violence, here in Italy… this one who has murdered his girlfriend, another who has murdered the mother-in-law… and these are baptized Catholics! There are violent Catholics! If I speak of Islamic violence, I must speak of Catholic violence . . . and no, not all Muslims are violent, not all Catholics are violent. It is like a fruit salad; there’s everything. There ARE violent persons of this religion… this is true: I believe that in pretty much every religion there is always a small group of fundamentalists. Fundamentalists. We have them. When fundamentalism comes to kill, it can kill with the language -- the Apostle James says this, not me -- and even with a knife, no? I do not believe it is right to identify Islam with violence. This is not right or true." Is this a fair response? In this video, David Wood examines an important difference between violence in Catholicism and violence in Islam. Link to Pope Francis's full remarks: http://www.

Are the Levitical Prohibitions against Same-Sex Sexuality Still in Effect Today? - Christian Research Institute

It would be homophobic in the extreme, especially in the aftermath of the horrific Orlando massacre, to obscure biblical teaching concerning same-sex sexuality. We should model the behavior of our Lord toward all who are lost through speaking truth—and speaking it in love. Says Gagnon, “The church can and should recapture Jesus’ zeal for all the ‘lost’ and ‘sick’ of society, including those engaged in homosexual practice. Concretely, this means visiting their homes, eating with them, speaking and acting out of love rather than hate, communicating the good news about God’s rule, throwing a party when they repent and return home, and then reintegrating them fully into communities of faith.”

Frank Turek - LGBTQ Contradictions

HRC bullying is bad enough, but the illegitimate use of power by the Court is even worse.  Five lawyers adopted legislative power from the bench to impose their own political views on over three hundred million Americans.  Along the way they charged opponents of their views with “animus” against homosexuals. Animus? That’s not true.  But even if it was, why does the Court think that voter motivation has anything to do with constitutionality?  Even the Court succumbs to the tendency to impugn motives and call people names when it’s short on reason. In fact, when your position isn’t true, you can distract attention from your contradictions by yelling louder and bullying all opponents as the LGBTQ movement is doing.

Why Do Christians Become Atheists?

If we had our “questioning God” moments in our life, we would empathize with those who convert to Atheism. On the other hand, if our [Christian] life has been hunky-dory and comfortable thus far, we would be surprised, shocked, and even judgmental at those converting to Atheism. The fact of the matter is that we ought to empathize with those who convert. But we would empathize only if we understand their reasons to convert.

Apologetic Non-Starters: Arguments to Avoid in Defending Christianity

God and the Laws of Nature

Let us suppose the laws of nature are descriptive. That is, let us suppose that what we call the “laws of nature” are really more like law-like regularities that describe what we observe in the universe, and extrapolate to apply to all corners of it. These descriptions of how the universe operates are always up for revision inasmuch as they reflect our understanding of what goes on. But this raises the question: Why does the universe run according to these descriptions?

20 Renewing Your Mind | A Scriptural Birth | August 3, 2016

Words carry power. When an idea is articulately expressed in words, it possesses the ability both to persuade and to call people to action. In fact, the well-known expression "the pen is mightier than the sword" is a tribute to the difference that words can make. History recounts how certain people, through passionate speeches or bold writings, have influenced the world around them in noteworthy ways. The Word of God, however, wields a power that is unrivaled by any form of human communication. As an account of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, the Bible calls its hearers and readers to faith. In this lecture, Dr. Lawson will discuss the significance of Scripture as the means the Holy Spirit uses to bring about the new birth.

The Dinner Table Taboo Americans Would Rather Break

Methodology: The online survey of adult Americans was conducted March 17, 2016. A sample of an online panel representing the adult population of the United States was invited to participate. Responses were weighted by region, age, ethnicity, gender and income to more accurately reflect the population. The completed sample is 1,004 online surveys. The sample provides 95 percent confidence that the sampling error from this panel does not exceed plus or minus 4.2 percent. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

Christians Have to Care About Injustice in the World

This is why Christians like John Newton (who penned "Amazing Grace"), William Wilberforce, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and others considered it their Christian duty to fight to challenge the injustice of slavery. To do justice today is to follow the widow and the abolitionists’ example and work to undo the ways that we, in our fallen humanity, deny access and opportunities (economic, political, social, etc.) to the vulnerable. Whether it is the right to freedom that is taken in human trafficking or the right to due process in the criminal justice system, doing justice means securing these rights and opportunities “with liberty and justice for all.”

Singleness Is Not a Problem to Be Solved

I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. (1 Corinthians 7:32–34).

28 Reasons To Believe : Dark Energy and Gravity Withstand Tests

Before a high fidelity test of f(R) theory was possible, because of numerous other tests of general relativity and dark energy, we had a very high degree of scientific certainty that a God beyond space and time created the universe and personally designed it for the benefit of human beings. Now, thanks to the recent precision test of f(R) theory we possess even greater scientific certainty. When the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope begins accumulating observations, we will gain the opportunity to develop still greater scientific certainty. As the Bible repeatedly infers, the more we study the realm of nature, the more evidence we will accumulate for the handiwork of God.

Voting Your Conscience - R.C. Sproul Jr.

As we record, we recently watched the conclusion of the Republican Convention in Cleveland for the year 2016 and I had a few thoughts that might be helpful for us to understand. I’m not going to cover the whole of the convention but I think one of the most dramatic moments of the convention. Before I do that though, let’s be honest about what’s going on here at this convention. There was some hope for some folks and some fear for other folks that this convention was going to end up being a much more substantial and impactful one than others had been in the past. That there would be some question about who would be the party’s nominee or even if the party would get behind what has been known for several months as the presumptive nominee.

Eric Metaxas: We need to seek the mind of Christ

We need to seek the mind of Christ, to think and to act as Christians, to know our Bible and to live by it in the power of the Spirit, “making the most of your time, for the days are evil.” We must commit anew to forming a biblical worldview and evaluating everything in our lives in light of it. We must recommit our time and our treasure to evangelism, missions, and Christ’s command in Matthew 25 to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, and visit the prisoner. Christian faith is not a nice add-on to our agendas, it’s the very marrow of our lives. — Eric Metaxas (from, When the Sky Really Is Falling )

How Then Shall We Post?

The way we carry ourselves, talk to others and treat people matters: It produces the fruit by which we—and our faith—are judged by people from the outside. This fruit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control—even in our social media interactions.

The Real Deal

What is the number-one perception of the Christian church today? No matter how you slice it, it always comes down to one word—hypocrisy. Hypocrisy has far more to do with honesty (including one’s approach to the Bible itself) and transparency than it does being perfect. It insinuates that people say one thing (for example, we believe the Bible is God’s Word), and live another way (for example, don’t really believe all the Bible). It implies that people force their own legalism on others but are blind to their own faults and sins—even as they are very judgmental toward those who struggle with their own temptations.

Manny Pacquiao, Championship Boxer, Has a New Opponent: Philippine Poverty

Pacquiao said he came from “nothing,” but describing his life story as “rags to riches” captures neither the hopelessness of his youth nor the wealth and fame he found through boxing. Pacquiao was born in a village in the southern Philippines and remembers drinking water in the evening to try to fool his stomach on days his family couldn’t afford rice. But it was more than hunger pangs that pushed him out of his family’s house and onto the streets of General Santos City as a teenager. A difficult relationship with his father came to a painful head when the elder Pacquiao arrived home drunk and angry and proceeded to kill, cook, and eat the family dog. Pacquiao’s father soon abandoned the family. That act left an emotional wound in his son that would not heal for 20 years.

Does Science Disprove God and the Bible?

“God is dead. We do not need him. It’s time to give up childish things and think as adults. Become scientifically literate. Become informed. The Historical Achilles' Heel of Islam

For more resources visit: The week following Easter in 2015, Dr Craig flew to Dallas, Texas, where he spoke in a downtown bar for the Bible and Beer Consortium. This ministry holds outreach events in this large, dark Dallas bar on a regular basis. Apparently, the bar is only too happy to do so because of the large crowds the events attract. There were several hundred who came out to hear Dr Craig give a talk on the resurrection of Jesus as an event of history. It was a delightful time defending the heart of the Gospel, and Dr Craig really liked the way the BBC is taking the Gospel to where the people really are. Tim Keller - Your $10 Can Accelerate A Gospel-Movement

Tripling the body of Christ in New York City will take much more than a single church or a single denomination. It will take partnership between many gospel-centered church leaders and the start of many more churches to reach our neighbors. We’ve developed a strategic plan to plant 100 new center city churches in the next 10 years. We need to start with at least 10 churches this year and we need partners to help us fund them.

ETHIX: Being Bold in a Whatever World - Kindle edition by Sean McDowell. Religion & Spirituality Kindle eBooks @

If there was ever a time for a book like Ethix, this is it. Our Christian youth are at a crossroad, as the opportunities to make the wrong decisions are many. Issues such as sex, drugs and alcohol, and moral relativism are what Sean McDowell deals with in this readable and well-researched book. But this book is more than just a bunch of facts thrown together. It's relevent material from a nationally known youth speaker, and I think the sincere Christian young person who is looking for answers to real issues is going to find it to be a big help. With objectives listed at the front of each of the 11 chapters and study questions placed at the back of the chapters--including group study questions--all youth pastors should immediately begin a weekly study with their teens. There is so much at stake that we need to quit babying our Christian youth and start providing answers for real world questions. After all, they are introduced to reality much earlier than my Baby Boomer generation was. As a Christian high school Bible teacher, I predict that a book like this will provide some important answers to these thirsty souls, and so I give Ethix my endorsement for Christian youth and their parents everywhere.

You Can Love Ministry and Miss Jesus

“Do not rejoice in this,” — that you made so many friends in Jesus’s name, or sacrificed to help the poor, or were outspoken for the cause of justice, or even led so many to saving faith — “but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). Know the deepest, surest, highest pleasure anyone has ever had — deeper than the happiest and most romantic marriages, surer than the most majestic mountains or the most beautiful beaches, and higher than the greatest miracles or successes in ministry.

Share Your Idea for Star Trek Series- Along with my idea!

On Facebook I mentioned how much I’ve been enjoying the “ New Frontier ” Star Trek series of books. They’re a fascinating look at different parts of the universe that don’t show up in the TV shows or movies. A friend came along and asked what my idea would be for a Star Trek Series (book or television). I decided to write up a brief blog post on it and share my idea with you. I’d love to hear your own ideas in the comments. Here’s my pitch:

Mercy Would Make America Great

“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’” (Luke 10:30–35)

Four Self-Refuting Statements Heard on College Campuses Across America

“There is no objective truth” / “Objective truth does not exist” Perhaps the most obviously self-refuting, this claim (or something similar to it) is still uttered in many university settings according to the students I train. Like all self-refuting claims, it can be cross-checked by simply turning the statement on itself. By asking, “Is that statement objectively true?” we can quickly see that the person making the claim believes in at least one objective truth: that there is no objective truth. See the problem?

48 The We-Ness Of Us All - R.C. Sproul Jr.

Humans are curious creatures. Just as we struggle to get our minds around both the one-ness and the three-ness of the godhead, so we struggle to understand ourselves. We are alone with our thoughts, alone in our skins. We will face the judgment seat one at a time. But man was not made to be alone. The woman came forth from the man, even as all men come forth from a woman. Husband and wife are made one flesh. Our connectedness, however, doesn’t end there. God’s good promise is that He puts the solitary into families (Psalm 68:6). He makes of us, in our local churches, one body, and in the universal church yet again one body.
