This Video Will Make You Never Want to Text and Drive Again

The campaign #ItCanWait has released a new, emotional video, showing the potentially deadly results of texting and driving. In the clip, after confessing to doing everything from SnapChatting to texting while behind the wheel, young people meet a victim of a horrific accident, caused by texting and driving. From there, things get emotional. The video is a good reminder of just how dangerous the temptation to use our phones behind the wheel can be.

Here’s the Trippy New Video for John Mark McMillan’s ‘Wilderlove’

John Mark McMillan's newest video, "Wilderlove" premiered today, and it's unlike anything we've seen. Directed by Jared Hogan, the video is shot vertically and features one person—at most—in the shot at a time. Most of the video features John, with appearances from a dancing elderly man and a few inanimate objects. It's pretty trippy. Watch for yourself:

Why Did Christianity Grow?

If you’ve never read anything by Rodney Stark you are missing out on a lot of educated provocation. Stark’s arguments are always intriguing. I don’t agree with everything he says and I wish he would do more to allow for supernatural explanations, but on the whole I find him full of good sense and delightfully iconoclastic.

6 Redefining the First Freedom

We all know about the battles over the Pledge of Allegiance and the phrase “under God,” the battles over manger scenes on public property. These are important, but they're skirmishes, mere skirmishes. The real battle is about whether God is Lord, or whether government is Lord. And make no mistake, if government can redefine or restrict our freedom of religion, our first freedom will be gone.

7
Why the Term 'Missionary' Can Fail Missionaries

Missionaries often aren’t given the freedom to be real people because they’ve been placed on a pedestal they never asked for. On my bad days, during the times I felt like I was making no difference whatsoever, I didn’t know who to turn to because everyone back home was convinced I was changing the world.

God’s Solution to the ‘Nones’ Who Have Left the Faith | The Stream

With regard to divine encounter, it is very possible, if not highly probable, that many of those who left the faith never were truly in the faith, meaning, they may have attended religious services and participated in religious rites, but they didn’t know the Lord for themselves. And religion without God can be boring, empty, dry, and even dangerous. As the German evangelist Reinhard Bonnke once commented, “Christianity, boring? So is television … if we don’t plug in.”

Do Wedding Ceremonies and Religious Beliefs Matter to God? - Christian Research Institute

A Jehovah’s Witness has a completely different Jesus. The Jesus of Christianity is the one who spoke and the universe leaped into existence. The Jesus of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is the archangel Michael, who was during his earthly sojourn merely human, and after his death recreated as an immaterial spirit creature. The Jesus of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is neither the Jesus of the Bible nor is their plan of salvation a biblical plan of salvation—it’s about what you do as opposed to what Jesus Christ has done for you. Jesus Christ, according to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, is not even the creator of all things. He was created by God and became a junior partner in the creation of all other things. Neither is the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Bible nor their authority equivalent to the Christian Bible. The New World Translation is a perverted translation of the Bible. Christianity and the Jehovah’s Witnesses are two religious systems. One based in history and evidence and the other cultic that can never be harmonized.

Confessions of a Recovering Christian Know-It-All

Millennials Don't Want Your Sex for Now. Here's Why

Many of us made purity vows, and youth group conversations revolved around burning questions: “How far is too far? What [sexual behavior] is and is not OK?” Some held to their vows. Others tested limits without actually having sex (defined as intercourse). And many rushed to the altar believing it better to marry than burn with passion (1 Corinthians 7:9).

Research: Most People Looking for a New Church Are Looking for Better Preaching

According to the data , almost half of Americans will look for a new church or congregation at some point in their (adult) lives, mostly because they moved to a new location. Some people do leave their congregations because of theological disagreements, but somewhat surprisingly that’s not a significant percentage. What's interesting, though, is what people searching for a new church are actually looking to find.

How Evidence Helps Doubters Become Devotees | Cold Case Christianity

I was uncomfortable when Tim began to talk about the role Cold-Case Christianity played in his transformation. It was humbling to hear how God can use one person’s journey to impact another’s, and I was honored God would use the book in such a way. Tim and Valerie reminded me of how evidence helps doubters become devotees. Have the courage to approach the skeptics in your life. Pray for them and point them to whatever resources may help them sort through their objections. God can use whatever He pleases to reach those who reject Him, and He often uses an evidential approach to reach the lost.

Is God the Center of Your Marriage?

Knowing God means knowing the service of the Son. Although he was one with God, same in substance, equal in power and glory, yet he willingly took on human form subjecting himself to weakness and to God’s law (Philippians 2:5–8). Christ perfectly obeyed that law even though he was personally tried and tempted by Satan on multiple occasions (Luke 4:1–13). And though he deserved to be treated like a king, he was mocked, beaten, betrayed, abandoned, tortured, murdered, and endured the wrath of hell. He completed all of this so that he might then clothe his people in his own righteousness, and so that they may become not just serfs in the kingdom of God, but members of the royal family, co-heirs with Christ himself (Romans 8:17). Rather than using his authority to force others to serve him, he freely sacrificed himself (John 10:18). Without question, he bids us do the same (Matthew 20:25–28).

Is My Life Worthy of the King?

To be delivered into the sovereign storyline of the King is amazing grace, and adoption into a royal family comes with an unspeakably high calling. To be a child of the King is to belong to “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession,” so that we would “proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). We are “children of God” who “shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15). We are all “children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5). “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).

Clerical Garb – R.C. Sproul Jr.

I am regularly concerned, and regularly speak and write about our sort of romantic notion that the only way to be real, true, and authentic is to be casual, and to flatten out every relational connection with everyone. Again, I’m not asking people to call me the Right Reverend Dr R.C. Sproul, Jr. The congregation at my church calls me Pastor, just as I call the other pastor Pastor. But that office, it’s not an elevated office, but it is a significant office. So let me just encourage you to not have a knee jerk reaction when you see someone in a robe and think “Well he must be haughty” or to think “He must be halfway across the Tiber River and becoming a pseudo Roman Catholic.” Rather what we are doing is trying to elevate the role of the shepherd and trying to elevate more still the significance and the authority of the Word rightly preached in the local church.

30 The Marriage Killer

We didn’t really need a study for this. Christians have long included lust among the deadliest sins, and now science is catching up. But as the world realizes porn isn’t harmless fun, now’s not the time to say “no, duh.” It’s time to offer the grace and mercy of the cross, and demonstrate why God’s design for sex is not only right, but good.

Just Because I'm Single Doesn't Mean You Have to 'Fix Me'

If you can look us in the eyes when you say it, even better. Just like Satan attacks you in motherhood and dares to tell you that you’re not a good mom or you have to fight the lie every day that your husband doesn’t want to be bothered by your insecurities, he attacks me too, in my deepest most vulnerable places. We need to break past the surface and Facebook versions of our lives that allow us to covet the lives of others because we don’t know the everyday struggles and the unfulfilled longings deep in each other’s hearts. I think we can get better at this.

The Gospel According to 'Stranger Things'

The show’s protagonist is a girl named Eleven. She is pretty clearly a Christ figure (Her nickname, El, even means “God” in Hebrew). She has a mysterious birth story and her true father is never mentioned, even though her mother does make an appearance. She possesses seemingly miraculous telekinetic powers. While in captivity, government officials “tempt” her to use her powers to kill a cat, which she refuses to do, paralleling Satan’s temptation of Jesus in the wilderness ( Matthew 4:1-11 ).

God's Will Isn't That Complicated

What if God’s will isn’t as complicated as we make it out to be? What if there isn’t a right or wrong school to go to, or job to take, or person to marry? Hell is one of the bedrocks of the Christian faith. I absolutely reject Christ. I work and pay taxes. I am charitable. I am [a] good father and husband. I am kind, forgiving. Atheist gets her PhD in astronomy and astrophysics and finds evidence for God

I was born in the U.S., but grew up in Canada. My parents were socialists and political activists who thought British Columbia would be a better place for us to live, since it had the only socialist government in North America at the time. My parents were also atheists, though they eschewed that label in favor of “agnostic.” They were kind, loving, and moral, but religion played no part in my life. Instead, my childhood revolved around education, particularly science. I remember how important it was to my parents that my brother and I did well in school.

38 Great Scholastics by W. Robert Godfrey | August 27, 2016

The thirteenth and fourteenth centuries represented an era of significant change in the Medieval world. In the East, these centuries witnessed the final decline and collapse of the Byzantine Empire. Meanwhile, institutions in the West continued to develop and flourish. While European monarchs labored to build up their power and prestige, the pope continued to increase his authority over the church. At the same time, an influx of new ideas had ushered in a season of considerable academic achievement. As Europe began to establish its first universities, talented Scholastics appeared who dramatically shaped the trajectory of Christian thought.

Why America’s ‘nones’ left religion behind

I am sorry to hear your comment. The Bible is the only book which passes every test for truth. Athiesm fails the first test for truth proceeding from the First Principles of Logic, Episomology, the First Principles of Science namely Causality. I will copy some thoughts from another post for your consideration: Can your statement pass the test for truth? have you applied logic and reason for your statement? Did the universe have a beginning? If it had a beginning was it by accident or was it by design? Is what I am saying right or wrong? Have you reviewed the first principles of logic? Law of Opposites (two absolutes which are opposite cannot both be true at the same time and in the same sense), Law of Identity (words refer)? Have you applied Epistomology? Is your argument coherent? Does it correspond to reality? How about the first principle of science, Causality? Since every finite effect must have an adequate first cause… Was the Universe caused or uncaused? What does the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics say? Since all things tend to disorder unless acted upon by an outside source… Can order come from disorder without an act from an outside source? What about Specified Complexity, have you applied this test? the DNA which is a 1:1 identity is written in a language made of 4 letters which are arranged in a specified and complex order.

The Good (and Bad) News About Christian Higher Education

A cademic freedom might seem like an ivory-tower concern. But Taylor University historian William C. Ringenberg links it to two central Christian emphases: truth and community. His latest book, The Christian College and the Meaning of Academic Freedom (Palgrave Macmillan), begins by rooting academic freedom in such virtues as honesty, humility, and love. Ringenberg then narrates the history of Western European and American higher education, with a focus on changing notions of academic freedom, before exploring case studies of academic-freedom challenges at Christian colleges. Elesha Coffman, assistant professor of history at Baylor University, spoke with Ringenberg about the mission of Christian higher education and its future prospects.

45 Easter Morning: The Surprising Role of Women | Saints and Sceptics

Women have always been valued culturally for their role as mothers and nurturers, but in Judaism in particular women were given even greater value for their potential role as mother to the coming Messiah. Perhaps every Jewish girl secretly hoped to give birth to the liberating Messiah.  Yet Jesus publically taught women to rise above this self-limiting evaluation of the worth of women in his teaching. Luke 11:27-28 records a woman in the crowd calling out, ‘Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you. Upon hearing her, Jesus broke with cultural acceptability, first by acknowledging her comments and treating her opinions as important, and secondly by disagreeing with her. ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it,’ he replied.  In other words, leave your sentimentality and your culturally defined role aside and recognise a bigger role – that of following me. My call goes out to all, regardless of ethnicity, gender or social standing. The role of motherhood, and indeed any other role, is secondary to that of doing God’s will.  By choosing women to inaugurate the new age of the coming kingdom, Jesus was as good as his word.

Are Miracles Metaphysically Impossible?

“It's impossible for God to interact in the physical world. For example, say we have a material object and God wants to move it. Newton made it clear: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore, since God is an immaterial being He could never cause anything to happen or occur in the material/physical universe. Therefore, miracles are impossible!”

49 Popes & Councils by W. Robert Godfrey | August 26, 2016

As the Middle Ages progressed, certain issues remained unresolved. Second to none in terms of its importance to the medieval church was the question of the pope’s authority. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the papal office faced unique challenges from secular authorities, from rival popes, and from clergy who sought to consolidate the church’s power within ecumenical councils. As different popes succumbed to and overcame these challenges, the papacy found itself sometimes losing ground, sometimes gaining ground, and always adapting to new realities within the church and society.

Couldn’t God Have Used Evolution?

I am fairly at a loss to comprehend how anyone, for a moment, can doubt that Christian theology must stand or fall with the historical trustworthiness of the Jewish Scriptures. The very conception of the Messiah, or Christ, is inextricably interwoven with Jewish history; the identification of Jesus of Nazareth with that Messiah rests upon the interpretation of the passages of the Hebrew Scriptures which have no evidential value unless they possess the historical character assigned to them. If the covenant with Abraham was not made; if circumcision and sacrifices were not ordained by Jahveh; if the ‘ten words’ were not written by God’s hand on the stone tables; if Abraham is more or less a mythical hero, such as Theseus; the Story of the Deluge a fiction; that of the Fall a legend; and that of the Creation the dream of a seer; if all these definite and detailed narratives of apparently real events have no more value as history than have the stories of the regal period of Rome—what is to be said about the Messianic doctrine, which is so much less clearly enunciated: And
