This Video Will Make You Never Want to Text and Drive Again

The campaign #ItCanWait has released a new, emotional video, showing the potentially deadly results of texting and driving. In the clip, after confessing to doing everything from SnapChatting to texting while behind the wheel, young people meet a victim of a horrific accident, caused by texting and driving. From there, things get emotional. The video is a good reminder of just how dangerous the temptation to use our phones behind the wheel can be.

4 Redefining the First Freedom

We all know about the battles over the Pledge of Allegiance and the phrase “under God,” the battles over manger scenes on public property. These are important, but they're skirmishes, mere skirmishes. The real battle is about whether God is Lord, or whether government is Lord. And make no mistake, if government can redefine or restrict our freedom of religion, our first freedom will be gone.

God’s Solution to the ‘Nones’ Who Have Left the Faith | The Stream

With regard to divine encounter, it is very possible, if not highly probable, that many of those who left the faith never were truly in the faith, meaning, they may have attended religious services and participated in religious rites, but they didn’t know the Lord for themselves. And religion without God can be boring, empty, dry, and even dangerous. As the German evangelist Reinhard Bonnke once commented, “Christianity, boring? So is television … if we don’t plug in.”

Do Wedding Ceremonies and Religious Beliefs Matter to God? - Christian Research Institute

A Jehovah’s Witness has a completely different Jesus. The Jesus of Christianity is the one who spoke and the universe leaped into existence. The Jesus of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is the archangel Michael, who was during his earthly sojourn merely human, and after his death recreated as an immaterial spirit creature. The Jesus of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is neither the Jesus of the Bible nor is their plan of salvation a biblical plan of salvation—it’s about what you do as opposed to what Jesus Christ has done for you. Jesus Christ, according to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, is not even the creator of all things. He was created by God and became a junior partner in the creation of all other things. Neither is the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Bible nor their authority equivalent to the Christian Bible. The New World Translation is a perverted translation of the Bible. Christianity and the Jehovah’s Witnesses are two religious systems. One based in history and evidence and the other cultic that can never be harmonized.

21 Popes & Councils by W. Robert Godfrey | August 26, 2016

As the Middle Ages progressed, certain issues remained unresolved. Second to none in terms of its importance to the medieval church was the question of the pope’s authority. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the papal office faced unique challenges from secular authorities, from rival popes, and from clergy who sought to consolidate the church’s power within ecumenical councils. As different popes succumbed to and overcame these challenges, the papacy found itself sometimes losing ground, sometimes gaining ground, and always adapting to new realities within the church and society.

Is My Life Worthy of the King?

To be delivered into the sovereign storyline of the King is amazing grace, and adoption into a royal family comes with an unspeakably high calling. To be a child of the King is to belong to “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession,” so that we would “proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). We are “children of God” who “shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15). We are all “children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5). “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8).

Clerical Garb – R.C. Sproul Jr.

I am regularly concerned, and regularly speak and write about our sort of romantic notion that the only way to be real, true, and authentic is to be casual, and to flatten out every relational connection with everyone. Again, I’m not asking people to call me the Right Reverend Dr R.C. Sproul, Jr. The congregation at my church calls me Pastor, just as I call the other pastor Pastor. But that office, it’s not an elevated office, but it is a significant office. So let me just encourage you to not have a knee jerk reaction when you see someone in a robe and think “Well he must be haughty” or to think “He must be halfway across the Tiber River and becoming a pseudo Roman Catholic.” Rather what we are doing is trying to elevate the role of the shepherd and trying to elevate more still the significance and the authority of the Word rightly preached in the local church.

25 The Marriage Killer

We didn’t really need a study for this. Christians have long included lust among the deadliest sins, and now science is catching up. But as the world realizes porn isn’t harmless fun, now’s not the time to say “no, duh.” It’s time to offer the grace and mercy of the cross, and demonstrate why God’s design for sex is not only right, but good.

Why the Term 'Missionary' Can Fail Missionaries

Missionaries often aren’t given the freedom to be real people because they’ve been placed on a pedestal they never asked for. On my bad days, during the times I felt like I was making no difference whatsoever, I didn’t know who to turn to because everyone back home was convinced I was changing the world.

Digital Fortresses and Face-to-Face Love

For the apostles, writing remotely meant the possibility of being misunderstood, or minimized — since they weren’t present in person to hold their hearers accountable. And being more easily misunderstood is doubtless a drawback we experience today. However, perhaps an even greater danger for us, with countless tools for remote communication at our fingertips, is how our sinful hearts love to hide our real selves behind a carefully constructed fortress of remote control.

Busyness Is Not the Problem

I wonder how I got here — the chaos, the mess, the failing — and I strategize how to make tomorrow better. This is just a season and it will pass. But is it? And will it? I suppose the seasons have been different. Whether it was adolescence, or insecurity, or exams, or finances, or breakups, or stressful jobs, or moves, or pregnancies, or anxiety, or babies, or hard relationships, or traveling, or sickness, or parenting, or just sheer exhaustion. But so often it’s just one thing replacing another thing. Another fire to put out. Another mountain to climb. And as a doer and a fixer, the to-do list is never-ending and there’s always something to improve or put back together.

Easter Morning: The Surprising Role of Women | Saints and Sceptics

Women have always been valued culturally for their role as mothers and nurturers, but in Judaism in particular women were given even greater value for their potential role as mother to the coming Messiah. Perhaps every Jewish girl secretly hoped to give birth to the liberating Messiah.  Yet Jesus publically taught women to rise above this self-limiting evaluation of the worth of women in his teaching. Luke 11:27-28 records a woman in the crowd calling out, ‘Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you. Upon hearing her, Jesus broke with cultural acceptability, first by acknowledging her comments and treating her opinions as important, and secondly by disagreeing with her. ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it,’ he replied.  In other words, leave your sentimentality and your culturally defined role aside and recognise a bigger role – that of following me. My call goes out to all, regardless of ethnicity, gender or social standing. The role of motherhood, and indeed any other role, is secondary to that of doing God’s will.  By choosing women to inaugurate the new age of the coming kingdom, Jesus was as good as his word.

Are Miracles Metaphysically Impossible?

“It's impossible for God to interact in the physical world. For example, say we have a material object and God wants to move it. Newton made it clear: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore, since God is an immaterial being He could never cause anything to happen or occur in the material/physical universe. Therefore, miracles are impossible!”

Contradictions: Eve’s Birth Certificate

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. ( Genesis 1:27–31 )

Couldn’t God Have Used Evolution?

I am fairly at a loss to comprehend how anyone, for a moment, can doubt that Christian theology must stand or fall with the historical trustworthiness of the Jewish Scriptures. The very conception of the Messiah, or Christ, is inextricably interwoven with Jewish history; the identification of Jesus of Nazareth with that Messiah rests upon the interpretation of the passages of the Hebrew Scriptures which have no evidential value unless they possess the historical character assigned to them. If the covenant with Abraham was not made; if circumcision and sacrifices were not ordained by Jahveh; if the ‘ten words’ were not written by God’s hand on the stone tables; if Abraham is more or less a mythical hero, such as Theseus; the Story of the Deluge a fiction; that of the Fall a legend; and that of the Creation the dream of a seer; if all these definite and detailed narratives of apparently real events have no more value as history than have the stories of the regal period of Rome—what is to be said about the Messianic doctrine, which is so much less clearly enunciated: And

42 The Briefing 08-26-16 -

Now this is something of a chicken and egg question in terms of modern cosmology, and worldview determines whether you start with the chicken or the egg. If you’re starting from a secular perspective, perhaps you say that it was just fortuitous: this has to do with temperature, which has everything to do with whether or not earth would be habitable for humans. You move the earth slightly further away from the sun, it’s too cold, you move it even slightly further toward the sun, it’s much too hot. It has to do with the density and gravity of planet Earth, which has a great deal to do with whether or not the atmosphere would be conducive to human beings and to the structure of the human body. There are many other aspects of the cosmic anthropic principle, but most revealing is the fact that secularist try to suggest it is just fortuitous that the planet turned out to be this rich in potential for the development of human life. From a theological perspective and in particular from a biblical perspective, it is exactly what we would expect to find. If indeed in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and he planned on this Earth to create human beings as the only species made in his image, then he would’ve created the planet and the solar system, the galaxy and the larger cosmos, exactly so that on this planet human life would not only be possible, but human life could flourish.

What If Someone You Love Is Addicted to Drugs?

I always assumed my faith needed to be the greatest of all in order for my dad to break free from his addiction. I thought that if I prayed harder and believed more, God would move my prayer request to the top of His list. But Jesus said that all you have to do is have faith the size of a mustard seed and that would be enough. (Matthew 17:20)

KFC's Secret Recipe May Have Been Revealed to the Chicago Tribune

In the 1940's, Colonel Sanders developed the original recipe chicken to be sold at his gas station diner. At the time, the recipe was written above the door so anyone could have read it. But today, we go to great lengths to protect such a sacred blend of herbs and spices. In fact, the recipe ranks among America's most valuable trade secrets. ... Lots of people through the years have claimed to discover or figure out the secret recipe, but no one's ever been right.

Is Science the Sole Means of Knowing Truth? No Chance.

More to the point, though, it is transparent nonsense: most of the things we know to be true, often quite indubitably, do not fall within the realm of what can be tested by empirical methods; they are by their nature episodic, experiential, local, personal, intuitive, or purely logical. The sciences concern certain facts as organized by certain theories, and certain theories as constrained by certain facts; they accumulate evidence and enucleate hypotheses within very strictly limited paradigms; but they do not provide proofs of where reality begins or ends, or of what the dimensions of truth are. They cannot even establish their own working premises—the real existence of the phenomenal world, the power of the human intellect accurately to reflect that reality, the perfect lawfulness of nature, its mathematical regularity, and so forth—and should not seek to do so, but should confine themselves to the truths to which their methods give them access.

Research: Most People Looking for a New Church Are Looking for Better Preaching

According to the data , almost half of Americans will look for a new church or congregation at some point in their (adult) lives, mostly because they moved to a new location. Some people do leave their congregations because of theological disagreements, but somewhat surprisingly that’s not a significant percentage. What's interesting, though, is what people searching for a new church are actually looking to find.

The Long Road to Building Israel's First Post-Statehood Church

Eventually, they landed on three architectural principles: “The first principle was that we wanted to have a building that portrays the light of Christ. If you go to the old churches in Jerusalem, many are very dark. But we said, ‘Christ has risen, and we want to show his light.’” Second, David said, “we wanted something halfway between a church and a synagogue. That’s why it has a dome. And it has arches in various parts of the building and outside, which is very Jewish, reminding us of the covenant God made with Noah.” Third, they wanted a place that served their community, open for events and public use seven days a week.
