Here’s a New Trailer for Banksy’s ‘Dismaland Bemusement Park’

A new trailer for Banksy’s creepy, high-concept art installation has been released, and it’s expectedly dark. The renowned street artist recently opened a sinister take on Disneyland called “Dismaland,” which features numerous “attractions” devoted to the evils of mankind and the darker side of modern pop culture. The faux park, in the beachside community of Somerset, England, is open to visitors through Sept. 27.

Beck + St. Vincent + Taylor Swift = BFFs?

Last night, Our Lady of Perpetual Friendship (a.k.a. Taylor Swift) welcomed Beck and St. Vincent to the stage during her show at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The trio of newly minted pals performed Beck’s summer single “Dreams,” which, judging by the video below, made for some pretty solid arena rock. From mainstream darling to alt appreciator—Swift has come a long way from taking an ex to task for listening to “some indie record that’s much cooler than mine.” The final installment of Swift’s Los Angeles residency goes down tonight. Who will join her? Haim? Paul McCartney? The Dalai Lama? You? The sky’s the limit, apparently.

A Warning about Trigger Warnings

While I imaged the discussion at Brandeis University, I hoped at least one student might have voiced, "Your being offended at this, the very idea that you expect things that offend you be eliminated, offends ME! Our Constitutional right to free speech Presumes offense! ... We're supposed to be Adults here, right? We expect Children to whine about every little thing that hurts their feelings. But part of being an adult Should mean we're not threatened when someone hurts Our feelings - right? Isn't it time for Us to grow up?!? You believe you can demand that whatever offends you be removed. But your taking offense at This offends Me. Does that give me the right to demand You be removed? See how silly this is? Our world is full of inequity, injustice, violence and abuse; we shouldn't accept it but that's the way it is. Let's quit whining, go home, and study how to make the world a stronger, better place, not a cocoon where nobody can offend us." But I'm 60 and only Wish I'd had the quickness and gumption to say something like that at that age. Still it ought to be said. And yes, we Christians shouldn't be so thin-skinned or whinny either.

The Wrong Response to Scary Headlines

Personally, I want to shut it all off, not because of fear, but because everyone immediately begins turning tragedy into support for an agenda - media tell the story to reflect their agenda, social media erupts into fights over political views. Like today - I don't know the people who killed in Roanoke, but it really saddened me and I just wanted a little while to process everything and grieve in my own way. But I couldn't because while trying to follow the news updates, all I see is fights over gun control and in one instance that turned into fights over abortion rights. Can we please just take like 24 hours to mourn those who lost their lives before using the situation to push or defend an agenda???

Christ Will Not Paint on a Proud Canvas

The Castoff The hinges on the cellar door Creaked, like a cello being tuned, Perhaps to play a score For me where I lie here marooned, A melancholy song To mark the years in darkness, dank, Mildewed, useless, and long Forgotten where I lay and stank Already years ago Beneath a pile of rags. A ray Of light — I only know It from the memory — now lay Across the one frayed edge Of my dark life exposed to hope. “Mock you my filth? Or pledge To me a future? Is there soap And water in your hand? Kerosene? Something to preserve The rotten fibers, and Beyond what I deserve, Remove the grease and mold And stench, and make a dream come true? Perhaps, though I am old, To be restitched into A sack for beans, or rice, Or, if too stained, perhaps for coal?” My friends, the cozy mice, Evade the light, and find their hole, As cellar steps groan like An old man getting out of bed, Or gears about to strike The hour for rising from the dead.

Tips for Studying the Bible - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

That’s why for me, as a new Christian, apologetics websites were just as important as the skeptic sites I had been visiting. I wanted to get some balance and some clear thinking on the issues we know are inherent to the Christian worldview. I found myself applying the same skepticism I had as a detective, and an atheist, to my own examination of Scripture. Here is my approach to answering some of my own questions about Christian doctrine, and Christian evidence. These are principles and tools that may help you sort out the truth for yourself. To help you remember, each of them start with the letter “D”. First, some qualities I think are important as a student of the Bible:

Why Pro-Abortion Men Are Anti-Woman

One key to the success of this pact between men who want to exploit women and pro-abortion feminists who gladly accommodate them is their public degradation of women who resist this game, and their protection of women who abet and comply with it. In fact, their “war on women” meme is looking more and more like a specious little scheme to cover up for repulsive behavior towards women by men like Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton. Examples abound, but consider also how elite feminists were basically okay with Keith Olberman referring to Michelle Malkin as a “mashed up bag of meat with lipstick on it.”

Pregnant Couples Defend Aborting Babies With Down Syndrome: “Loving Kids Like That is a Waste”

Rayna Rapp, a former abortion clinic worker who aborted a baby with Down syndrome herself, conducted a survey of women and couples who sought amniocentesis to screen for Down syndrome and other problems with their babies. All of the interviewees intended to abort if the baby was found to have Down syndrome. Some of the things that these parents say about Down syndrome children are deeply troubling to anyone who values life. Here are some comments from men and women who said they would abort if the test came back positive for Down.

God Doesn’t Need You to Go Viral

It’s a fair question, as several couples conflate getting more viewers for God and getting more viewers for themselves. With pregnancy as clickbait, many play up announcements and details about baby-related news… even when they’re not actually pregnant. Sam—a dad so excited to share the news about his wife’s pregnancy that he sneaked a sample of her pee to test— confessed to Buzzfeed he’s always wanted to be famous. According to Jones, “a production company is ‘very interested’ in turning their lives into a reality TV show.”

7 Sins the Church Ignores

I disagree. This article takes seven different sins and says that the church as a whole ignores them; these aren't ignored by the church as a whole. Many churches I've visited over the years have spoke on nearly everything sin on this list, many individuals I know refrain from such things (the best they can).

Why Is Having Friends As an Adult So Hard?

But inevitably, even with all the good times and common ground, things will change. Even if you were staying in the same city, friendships shift due to new responsibilities, jobs, marriage and so on. We can get stuck between feeling guilty for not spending as much time with pals and anxiety while adjusting to new places, a new job and new relationships. Changes and awkwardness might displace once-deep conversations. Chats about life turn into apologies for not catching up more often. Friendships go through seasons. And just because things change doesn’t mean they have to be bad.

Life’s Knots Need Jesus

Phrygia was an ancient kingdom in what is now central Turkey. According to legend, once upon a time Phrygia was without a king. One day, a pagan oracle declared that the next man to drive an ox-cart into Phrygia’s capital city, Telmissus, would be the new king. That man was a farmer named Gordias.

Budget deficit smallest of Obama presidency, but economy still sluggish: CBO

Debt held by the public will dip this year to 73.8 percent, down from 74 percent in fiscal year 2014, and will fluctuate for a few years before beginning a steady climb by 2020 and nearing 77 percent in 2025. 'Serial' Update: Attorney Claims New Evidence Could Overturn Adnan Syed's Conviction

There’s hope still for Adnan Syed—the mysterious central figure in the Serial podcast. Today, his attorney, C. Justin Brown, filed a motion in court claiming that the cellphone data used to convict Syed was unreliable. If you remember, in the trial, incoming calls to Syed’s phone seemed to place him at the scene of crime where Hae Min Lee died. Brown now says that back in 1999, only outgoing calls could track locations, not incoming ones. A fax cover sheet from AT&T reads: “Outgoing calls only are reliable for location status. Any incoming calls will NOT be considered reliable information for location,” according to Brown’s motion. “If properly raised at trial, much of, if not all of, the cellular evidence would have been rendered inadmissible,” he wrote. He told The Baltimore Sun , “We feel that the fax cover sheet from AT&T is an extremely important piece of evidence and we are bringing it to the court's attention as quickly as possible. We hope the court considers it.”

Standing on the shoulders of giants: The preacher and his books

One of my favorite quotes is from Sir Isaac Newton, discoverer of the law of gravity. In a letter to Robert Hooke on February 5, 1676, Newton wrote, “If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Newton saw farther than anyone had before, precisely because he was willing to learn from those who had gone before him. Just imagine what life would be like if all anyone ever knew was the knowledge they accumulated on their own. There would be no electricity, no light bulb, no telephone, no computers, no cars, no airplanes, no space travel, and, gasp, no iPhone. But because men learned from those who had gone before, these inventions and many more were possible. Sadly, many preachers like to work in an anti-intellectual vacuum, gleaning nothing from the God-gifted men who have gone before them. God has especially equipped the body of Christ with teachers, evangelist, and pastors. I thank God for men like Justin Martyr, Tertullian, Augustine, Anselm, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Newton, John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, and a host of others, who are, without a doubt, God’s gifts to the church.

15 Ways to Fight Lust with the Sword of the Spirit

14) Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” This has been the most helpful verse for me in fighting lust and the temptation to sexual immorality. We need to fight desire with desire. Satan tempts us by holding out something that will be pleasurable to us. We aren’t tempted to gorge ourselves on liverwurst, because for most of us, it doesn’t hold out the promise of great pleasure. But sex does. Pornography does. A second look does. The Bible gives us many weapons to fight temptation. We can tell ourselves it is wrong, it is sinful, it will lead to bad things, it isn’t what I should do as a Christian. All of those are helpful. But the one weapon we rarely use is more pleasure. We need to fight the fleeting pleasure of sexual sin with the far greater, more abiding pleasure of knowing God. The fight for sexual purity is the fight of faith. It may sound like nothing but hard work and gritting your teeth–the very opposite of faith. But faith is at the heart of this struggle. Do we believe that a glimpse of God is better than a glimpse of skin? Do we believe that God’s steadfast love is better than life (Psalm 63:3)? We’d probably sin less if we spent less time thinking about our sins, sexual or otherwise, and more time meditating on the love and holiness of God.

7 Bible Verses For When You're Feeling Overwhelmed

There are many times in life when it feels like the world is crashing around you. Life gets extremely busy and you have so much to do. Debt may increase, and some may even lose their jobs. Just remember, you are not alone. We have all felt like this before, but we must do our best to compromise and figure out how to relieve the stress. The Bible is full of inspirational scripture that will lift us up when we are down.

Convictions and Cultural Change: A Google Hangout with John MacArthur

On August 25th, we were joined by Dr. John MacArthur, president of The Master's Seminary, and Dr. Stephen Nichols, president of Reformation Bible College. We discussed the urgency to stand with conviction in a time of rapid cultural change.

Did God Send A Prophet to Rebuke John MacArthur?

And so, once more, I appeal to my esteemed colleague, who has done so much good for the cause of Christ for so many decades and who has stood like a rock in the midst of spiritual compromise: Dear brother, you were gentle and gracious after that incident in your church. Would to God that you would display that same grace in your public differences with those of us in the Charismatic Movement — more than a half a billion strong — and would to God you would display that same grace and agree to sit down privately and discuss the relevant issues as men of God.

Manliness: an Unsung Trait of the Train Heroes

There’s one more thing to be said of the heroes on the train. They were men. So-called “traditional masculinity” is a major target of feminists on college campuses and elsewhere. That, they teach, is what creates the “rape culture.” The Obama administration has joined in (naturally). A government website urges that colleges “Promote an understanding of the ways in which traditional masculinity contributes to sexual assault and other forms of men’s violence against women.”

Faithful Thinkers: Book Review: Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off

Introduction How did life begin? This question has perplexed humanity for centuries. Some people believe that it came along by natural processes. Others believe that a divine Designer is behind it all. These two options go head-to-head, tested against the latest scientific research in the book "Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off" ( hardcover ,  Kindle , Supplemental Site ) by astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross and biochemist Dr. Fazale Rana. The book is divided into three sections, seventeen chapters, and 298 pages (including notes and appendices). This review provides a chapter-by-chapter summary of the contents of the book, but it must not be accepted as a replacement for reading the book, itself. The review will conclude with my thoughts and recommendation. Drs. Ross and Rana take the position that the origin of life is by divine design. To scientifically test their hypothesis, they present their model, competing models, and the latest research; they then compare the predictions of the models to the research to build their case. Before examining the current state of origins research, it is a good idea to take a quick look at the events that led to the current state.

The Ashley Madison Bomb - Authentic Manhood

1. Come clean with your spouse, without omitting or minimizing. Get some counsel as to the level of detail to go into, but the bottom line is that your spouse has a right to know about the extent of your behavior. Honesty at this stage can, perhaps, be the beginning of healing for both of you, even if the conversation itself is painful (and it likely will be very painful). But hiding information, deception, and minimizing is just a continuation of your unfaithfulness. I have spoken to so many men in the early stages of being found out who simply could not be honest. Truth just dribbled out over months. For many their marriages ended not because of the affair, but because their dishonesty never stopped.

Tullian Tchividjian Files for Divorce Following Extramarital Affair, Resignation From Church

"As many of you know, I returned from a trip a few months back and discovered that my wife was having an affair. Heartbroken and devastated, I informed our church leadership and requested a sabbatical to focus exclusively on my marriage," stated Tchividjian.

Is the root cause of crime poverty or fatherlessness?

The truth about welfare is very simple. It should be known that welfare is not a career. It was established to help people get back on their feet while going through a hardship. The system is making no effort to restrict benefits or rights of the lazy. I know many people on welfare, both black and white, and I must say that most of them drive nicer cars than me and definitely eat better than my family. There should be a cap on benefits. If they would make benefits the same for everyone and stop raising it per child maybe these lazy ass people will find that there is more to do than get pregnant and shop with clothing vouchers that the working man pays for. Welfare should also have a cap on how long you can collect benefits. Recipients should be drug tested and should also lose the right to vote. Why should they be able to vote for people that make decisions on topics like taxes when they don’t pay any?
