She Confronts the Woman Who Shot Her in the Face Years Ago. You Won't Believe What She Says!

This woman was on Dr. Phil speaking to the person who shot her in the face many years ago. She was shot in the face as she was mugged. When you look into her eyes, you will see how much pain and suffering she had gone through. But then the shooter had something to say about forgiveness, to help the victim get over the past. Easier said than done, but VERY powerful.

Air New Zealand’s ‘Men in Black’ In-Flight Safety Video Is a Masterpiece

Air New Zealand is known for their ambitious takes on in-flight safety videos, but their latest Men in Black-themed blockbuster takes things to the next level. The word "epic" gets thrown around a lot on the Internet, but for a mandatory video about generic safety info, this one can confidently wear the label.

Otherwise, this video—filmed by a fan on the band’s “Gentlemen of the Road” road tour, is worth the watch just for the novelty factor alone.

This Groom Takes the Surprise Wedding Dance to a New Level

Wedding dance videos are staples of the YouTube world. We've seen them—and the The Office episode—where a wedding or wedding reception includes some kind of we're-all-in-on-it, surprisingly coordinated dance. Well, this Virginia wedding took it to a new level. It doesn't hurt that the groom is a professional dancer in the first place, but still. It's pretty awesome.

This Epic Lego Legend of Zelda Castle Took Over Two Years to Build

The Virginia branch of the annual BrickFair Lego Convention (yes, that's a real thing) took place earlier this month, and like many of the Lego enthusiasts who attended, Joseph Zawada had dedicated a long time perfecting his Lego creation. In fact, the 19-year-old spent about two and a half years building his huge model of a castle from the video game Legend of Zelda. Even if you’re not a Zelda fan, it’s pretty impressive. He explained his building process to YouTube channel Beyond the Brick:

Sword-Wielding Cashier Chases Off Robbers

Two masked men chose the wrong cashier to mess with when they attempted to rob a store in Pittsburgh this weekend. The men threatened Jewad Hayih with a machete as he was closing up Perry Market, but Hayih surprised the would-be robbers by pulling out a large sword and chasing them out of the store. The suspects weren’t caught, but they definitely got a good scare. Fortunately, the store’s security cameras caught it all on tape.

How Great Books Teach Us to Love

Morson bucks the trend of declining enrollments in literature courses. In a recent article for Commentary magazine, titled “ Why College Kids Are Avoiding the Study of Literature ,” Morson sympathizes with students who say they have nothing to gain by reading the classics. But he says they’re not more materialistic than students were during economic booms of the 1950s or 1980s. And despite what you read about attention spans and Twitter, these same students devoured all seven books in the Harry Potter series when they were younger.

Renewing Your Mind | 1 and 2 Corinthians | August 19, 2015

We have to understand why Paul says what he says in 1 Corinthians 15. This entire chapter is Paul’s magnificent defense of the resurrection of Christ. He is responding as a theologian to a spirit of skepticism that had emerged in the Corinthian church. Word had come to him that some people in the church were denying the Resurrection. So Paul explored the implications of that. If there is no such thing as resurrection (which is what the Sadducees believed) and if there is no life after death, what are the consequences? First of all, if there is no resurrection, then Christ is not raised. So if there’s no resurrection whatsoever, that eliminates the resurrection of Christ. If there is no resurrection of Christ, what are the implications of that? That means you’re still in your sins. There’s been no mark of divine approval on Christ’s perfect sacrifice for your justification. It means you’re a false witness of God because you’ve been running around telling everybody that, in fact, Jesus was raised and that it was God who raised him. Paul goes on to say that if Christ is not raised, then those who have fallen asleep have perished.

Stephen Colbert on Making The Late Show His Own

It's interesting to watch his interview with Eminem with this in mind. The whole thing is great, but there are a few spots that are electric, because we assume that Eminem is in on the conceit—that Colbert is playing a character who is aggressively ignorant of who he is—and yet he appears in these moments to be totally baffled by what's going on. “I'm so confused right now,” Eminem says at one point. “I'm trying to figure out if you're serious.” Colbert remains stubbornly, insultingly in character. “I'd like to apologize,” he says, “if you're a bigger deal than I know about.” Eminem stares back at him in disbelief. “Are you serious right now?” he says again. “I'm trying to figure out if you're serious right now.” Colbert straightens in his chair. “You seem pretty mad,” he says. And it's true, he does! If Eminem's reaction were purely a performance, there would be a very different energy there. We'd just be watching two guys play make-believe.

Died: Danny Lotz, 78, Husband of Anne Graham Lotz

Danny and Anne were married for forty-nine years. At the age of fifty Danny developed a severe case of Adult 1 diabetes. For over ten years following his retirement from dentistry he fought the ravages of the disease, earning him the beloved nickname, God’s Gladiator. He lost the sight in one eye and the hearing in one ear. His heart disease required five stents in his arteries. His renal failure dictated three days of dialysis each week, five hours each time. And yet he never complained, never slowed down, never gave up, never stopped investing in the lives of others. As a New Yorker he was plain spoken. As a German he was stubborn. As a Christian he was a compassionate servant leader. He was more than a man’s man. He was God’s man who triumphantly finished his race having fought the good fight, and having kept his faith firmly focused on the kingdom of God first.

Stephen Colbert: ‘I Am Here to Know God, Love God, Serve God’

I'm very grateful to be alive, even though I know a lot of dead people ... And so that act, that impulse to be grateful, wants an object. That object I call God. Now, that could be many things. I was raised in a Catholic tradition. I'll start there. That's my context for my existence, is that I am here to know God, love God, serve God, that we might be happy with each other in this world and with Him in the next—the catechism. That makes a lot of sense to me. I got that from my mom. And my dad. And my siblings.

Pastors, Counseling, and Mental Health: 6 Guidelines for Pastors to Consider

When church members struggle with mental health issues, they often first turn to their pastor for help. The pastor then has to decide what sort of counseling is appropriate for the presenting issue. Questions, such as, “Do I have training in this area?” and “What is my relationship with this individual?” should be circulating in the pastor’s mind. Some issues may warrant counseling solely conducted by the pastor, while other issues may require more expertise in mental health issues. So, how does a pastor know when engaging or continuing in counseling is appropriate or when a referral to a mental health professional should be made?

Study blames college tuition arms race on schools addicted to federal aid

But not everyone is rushing to judgment. Critics have pointed to years of studies that do not prove a casual link between aid and tuition rates. Debbie Cochrane, research director for the Institute for College Access and Success, points out that while the rates at all schools in this latest study appear to be affected, a closer look shows that expensive private schools are most responsible for jacking up the rates in response to aid increases, more so than the four-year state schools. According to 2012 data, 60 percent of the 10.7 million enrolled in four-year schools went to state colleges and universities, compared to 29 percent who went to private non-profits, which include the nation’s Ivy League schools.

Why We Should All Practice Confession

If you’re Protestant, you may also have got the idea that confession is just for Catholics, that it’s always done in a booth, and that the priest—kind but nail-bitingly meticulous—only absolves you after dragging out of you horrible, malicious little deeds you’re not even quite sure were wrong. Perhaps that’s why in the movies you never see someone coming in for confession every week. It’s always “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It’s been half a century since my last confession.”

23 The Challenge of History: An Interview with William Lane Craig | Reasonable Faith

Interestingly, the historian follows the same method as the historical scientist in sciences like geology, paleontology or cosmology. There the scientist is also involved in reconstructing the past, either the past history of the universe or the earth’s past. The only real difference between the scientist and the historian is that the historian studies human history rather than earth history or cosmic history. But in terms of method, they’re doing exactly the same. The historian’s history is on the same level as the geologist’s history or the cosmologist’s history. When people try to play off history against science, they’re making an illegitimate move because history is on “all-fours” with the historical sciences. As long as we proceed within the constraints of the evidence, there’s no reason to think that we can’t reconstruct the past as it actually happened.

Why I Don’t Blame Planned Parenthood

While my child’s father, my parents, and the abortion clinic staff and doctors all share responsibility in my abortion, that doesn’t mean I blameshift it onto Planned Parenthood or anyone else. I could’ve said “no” to the pressure my parents were placing on me. I could’ve walked out of the clinic. I could’ve made an adoption plan for my baby. I was guilty of the sin of abortion because I chose to go through with the abortion.

Gaining by Losing: Why the Future Belongs to Churches that Send

Loving neighbors by serving them in job training or whatever their context demands does not replace the command to make disciples. If the multiplication of ministries and service projects isn’t yielding disciples, then we’ve failed. The point of community service is making the gospel known to the homeless, the orphan, the prisoner, the international student, the LGBT community, and the Buddhist monk. These people won’t walk likely into your church—no matter how engaging the sermons and music are. “The ultimate mission is not to paint a fence, feed a prisoner, or tutor a child,” Greear contends, “but to make a disciple.” And disciples are best made through forming long-term relationships, which develop ideal forums to present the gospel.

Faithfulness in College Is ‘Life-Wide’

In this, too, we need life-wide faith. Unfortunately, a powerful strain of anti-intellectualism runs through much of the church, creating a false dichotomy between head and heart, brains and spirituality. This dualistic way of thinking ignores the fact that Jesus is extremely concerned with the life of your mind. God’s plan of redemption means he is taking back what belongs to him—including your brain. So what you think and how you think all belongs to God. It’s all designed to be a sacrifice to him. As the apostle Paul writes:

Facing the Canon with Alister McGrath

Dr Alister McGrath, a former atheist who is now one of Christianity’s foremost scholars, is currently Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at the University of Oxford. After initial academic work in the natural sciences, McGrath turned to the study of theology and intellectual history, while occasionally becoming engaged in broader cultural debates about the rationality and relevance of the Christian faith. As a former atheist, McGrath is respectful, yet critical of the movement. In recent years, he has been especially interested in the emergence of ‘scientific atheism’, and has researched the distinctive approach to atheist apologetics found in the writings of the Oxford zoologist and scientific populariser Richard Dawkins. 33 “Honesty, Transparency, Full Disclosure” and the Borde-Guth-Vilenkin Theorem | Reasonable Faith

In the next paragraph one realizes that something doesn’t smell right. For the two models mentioned (Aguirre-Gratton and Carroll-Chen) were specifically addressed by name by Vilenkin in the paper from the Cambridge conference which I quoted in my opening speech. These models were comprised in Vilenkin’s conclusion, “None of these scenarios can actually be past-eternal.” So when Vilenkin says that they afford a “possible loophole,” the idea must be that because they deny the single assumption of the theorem, maybe that’s a way to avoid the beginning of the universe. But in his paper Vilenkin proceeds to close this loophole by showing that these models cannot be past-eternal for other reasons. This led me to wonder if Krauss had even read the relevant paper by Vilenkin—yes, the one he accuses me of not understanding—because he was evidently unfamiliar with its contents.

I remember searching high and low for a curriculum that’s easy to teach. Something that focuses on the essentials of the faith—not someone’s economic views or debates about the age of the earth. I disagree. Sometimes, change is good for me, even when it has no particular purpose other than to jettison me from my current rut. In fact, here’s a word of personal confession: When asked what are my greatest leadership failures in the past, I almost always point back to pivotal moments where I chose to stay safe and keep everyone happy rather than pushing forward in the direction I thought best. 39 Whose body parts are they?

To maintain that this “tissue” is merely part of the mother that is being donated or sold for research (or whatever purposes) is absurd on its face. One would have to actually believe–not just argue for the sake of maintaining their position–that during pregnancy, a mother grows new parts of her body such as a brain, legs, and the like, which are all characterized by different DNA (unless cloned) and around 50% of the time has a different gender. That is, not to put too fine a point on it, one would have to actually claim that women grow penises.

What We Mean When We Say, “God Created Everything From Nothing” - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

One of the key pieces of evidence in the universe is simply it’s origin. If our universe began to exist, what could have caused it’s beginning? How did everything (all space, time and matter) come into existence from nothing ? One way atheist physicists have navigated this dilemma has simply been to redefine the terms they have been using. What do we mean when we say “everything” or “nothing”? At first these two terms might seem rather self-explanatory, but it’s important for us to take the time to define the words. As I’ve already stated, by “everything” we mean all space, time and matter. That’s right, space is “something”; empty space is part of “everything” not part of “nothing”. For some of us, that’s an interesting concept that might be hard to grasp, but it’s an important distinction that must be understood. When we say “nothing”, we mean the complete absence of everything; the thorough non-existence of anything at all (including all space time and matter). These two terms, when defined in this way, are consistent with the principles of the Standard Cosmological Model, but demonstrate the dilemma.

Secularism isn't a Neutral Position | Come Reason's Apologetics Notes

Should Christianity have a voice in politics, education, and the public square? Many people think so. They tend to believe that you can hold whatever belief you wish, as long as you don't "force your faith into a secular government." 1 Organizations like Americans United for the Separation of Church and State have been trying to systematically remove all crosses or any type of religious displays set up on city or county properties. The thought is that in public areas such as schools and government a secular viewpoint is neutral while a religious viewpoint is biased. But I don't think that's true, and neither does philosopher Brendan Sweetman. In his book Why Politics Needs Religion, Sweetman discusses why secularism is anything but a neutral position. He first builds the case that secularism is a distinct worldview with its own specific beliefs. He states that every worldview is what he calls "a philosophy of life" In other words it is the grid through which we see and make sense of the world. Sweetman notes that every worldview holds the following traits: 2 It is concerned with three primary areas: nature of reality, the nature of persons, and the nature of moral and political values.

What is God calling me to? Your past could be key to your future

In fact, my first three years in school were marked by vocational uncertainty. I could tell you what I didn’t believe God’s call on my life entailed, but I couldn’t tell you what it did mean. I was certain I wasn’t called to be a pastor. I thought maybe it was to some sort of educational ministry but at that time my understanding of such a thing was limited to the educational minister that I had observed in our most recent church home. That sense of calling, however, wasn’t out of conviction. It was out of default. I just didn’t know what else was out there. As I learned more, I began to question more. What is it that God’s called me to do?
