REBOOT | Youth Apologetics
Once a year, REBOOT meets in the centre of London to explore questions such as ‘How can we know God exists?’, ‘Why does God allow suffering?’ and ‘Hasn’t science disproved God?’. REBOOT provides a place for young people from 12-18 years old, with or without any faith or church background, to raise their objections and investigate different perspectives.
Through its annual conference, online resources, and speaking invitations, REBOOT aims to equip young people to understand and be able to answer some of these big questions for themselves.
Our team from the Zacharias Trust and the OCCA [the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics] want you to have confidence in what you believe, and the chance to be honest about your doubts. Since its launch in 2013, REBOOT has welcomed over 1000 young people, and this year we are excited to see more of you than ever!

Netflix is continuing to invest heavily in its original shows. The streaming content provider partnered with DreamWorks to bring the popular kids' books series Dinotrux to the content library later this month. Pistol-whipped cop didn’t shoot suspect for fear of backlash
The Birmingham detective, whose name has not yet been released, paused while a suspect attacked him during a traffic stop because he feared the country-wide backlash he might receive for killing a black man, the head of the local police union said Friday.
The Surprising Ways Other Countries Think About Abortion
Why do we have to have governmental policies telling us to do what we, as Christians, should naturally be doing? These issues of abortion and pre- and post-natal care should not be ones of a government to decide, rather they are issues of our society's heart. If you are so concerned about the welfare of a woman during and after pregnancy, what are you personally doing about it? When was the last time you brought a meal to a new mother or helped clean the home of an expecting mother on bed rest? When was the last time you came along side a woman in a "crisis" pregnancy and offered emotional, physical or fiduciary support? Why do we have to have our government take care of our people, is that not what the Church is for?
Let’s Be Honest About Our Racial Biases
Race is a lie that exists for one purpose: power. Ethnicity is natural by-product of God’s command to multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 1:28). I think if all of us began to forsake racial categorization and return to ethnic group identity, then there could be transformation of the power structure in America.. The theological rejection of a spiritual lie that we have lived with for hundreds of years, in fact, could help bring about a more just world. As a Church, we would be declaring, “This is a lie, and we refuse to live by it anymore.”
High School Senior, Prepare to Launch
This means your final year of high school ought to be the prepare-to-launch phase of your life. No coasting, no going through the motions, no bunker mentality. Instead, as you look to the horizon and see the next stage of your life approaching, your attitude ought to be one of leaning in and going on offense. You’re the Israelites, and the future is the land of Canaan. So take the land; don’t be taken by it. Disciple the nations; don’t be discipled by them. Plunder the Egyptians of their wealth; don’t, as one pastor put it, go dumpster-diving in Egypt.
10 Ways to Live an Extraordinary Life

He’s the Ugandan honorary consul to the U.S. He’s a professor at Pepperdine Law School and Point Loma Nazarene University. He’s the founder of Restore International, which serves underprivileged children in Uganda and India. His endless supply of stories charm, his overseas work inspires and his demeanor encourages—but the most truly fascinating thing about Bob Goff is Bob Goff.

Why You Give in to Sexual Sin
Why isn’t he crying out for sexual restraint? Why isn’t he praying for men to hold him accountable? Why isn’t he praying for protected eyes and sex-free thoughts? In this psalm of confession and repentance after essentially raping Bathsheba, you would expect David to ask for something like that.

I Want to Vote for Donald Trump Just for Entertainment Value. Is That Wrong?
Trump’s absurd soundbites and strange interviews have made for some of the most delicious political satire in years. As John Stewart has said, “Any time I feel like the world’s getting me down or boring me, and there’s nothing to look forward to, I just give myself a little slice of [Trump’s] kickoff speech.”
But I think that, in order to answer your question, we’ll need to look a little deeper at the reason that Trump’s a political contender.
The Church's 'Intersex' Challenge
DeFranza’s book is divided into two sections. In the first, she outlines how the medicalizing of our bodies made “intersex” conditions invisible to our contemporary Western consciousness. She then plumbs Jesus’s claim that “some are born eunuchs” (Matt. 19:12), suggesting that the Bible contains resources for recognizing those who do not fit the standard understanding of male and female. And she provides a hasty overview of how we ostensibly went from one sex (male) in the classical period, to two in modernity (male and female), to the postmodern proliferation of sexes. (One theorist proposes five sexes, while another suggests hundreds.)
Yes, There is Now a Ned Flanders-Themed Metal Band
A group of friends in Phoenix, Arizona, has formed a hardcore band for the ages. Drawing inspiration from The Simpsons character Ned Flanders, the band has christened themselves “Okilly Dokilly,” and say they will be playing “Nedal” music. They also dress in identical Ned Flanders outfits, so there’s that. According to the group’s Facebook page, they’ll be playing their first concert in September. They wrote:
Lamentations: A Bottle for the Tears of the World
Lamentations, as O’Connor says, provides a bottle for the tears of the world. We cry out to God for those who suffer so terribly from the effects of sin and evil and sheer folly: in wars, racial conflicts, and all manner of injustice and oppression. Lamentations holds up to God the sheer horror of what this suffering feels like, and appeals to him to act justly, to demonstrate his faithfulness. The book affirms God’s sovereignty—his throne is still in heaven even as the devastation of his temple happens on earth—in its closing verses.

Raising future men and women
There are no generic people. There are men, and there are women. Consequently there are no generic Christian people. There are Christian men and there are Christian women. In Genesis 1-2, Ephesians 5, 1 Peter 3, and Colossians 3, we find clarity about the primary roles of men and women. There are differing ways in which men and women will live out the Christian life. For instance, when giving specific instruction and admonition to men, the Bible usually does so within three key categories: leading, providing and protecting. In other words, biblical masculinity involves a heart that is inclined to obey God within this particular context of leadership, provision and protection. This may take place predominantly as husbands and fathers, but it still should be cultivated, encouraged and instilled in boys as they mature into manhood.

Are we saved by faith alone, or do we need works, too?
The following is a list of verses about being saved by faith. Please take note that faith and works are contrasted. In other words, we are saved by faith "not by works" and "apart from works," etc. The point is that there are only two options. We are saved by faith alone, or we are not. Since we have faith and works (both conceptually and in practice), then we are either saved by faith alone or by faith and works. There is no other option.
The Waiting Is Over: There Is Another 'Lion King'

Winona Ryder Confirms that Tim Burton Is Making a 'Beetlejuice' Sequel
Another one of your childhood’s biggest movies is coming back. Actress Winona Ryder visited Late Night with Seth Meyers this week and confirmed that filmmaker Tim Burton has signed on to direct a sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice . And, if Burton is directing, there is a high likelihood that Michael Keaton will be back in the starring role. In an interview with Variety last year, Burton said, “There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael.” Now, all he has to do to make Beetlejuice 2 happen is say his name three times.
The ESV Reader's Gospels by Crossway
Confession: When I heard about The ESV Reader’s Gospels , which is essentially a specialized Bible featuring only the four Gospels, I thought, “Interesting concept, but practically useless.” I had a hard time determining why I would want a copy of the Gospels in their own volume, or when I would ever reach for such a book over my regular Bible. In retrospect, my eyes have been opened, and I can hardly keep my hands off this thing. So if you ask the same, skeptical questions, allow me to illuminate through personal narrative…
The Path to Full and Lasting Pleasure
So this is the preservation he asked for. When he said, “Preserve me, O God,” ultimately, he meant: Don’t let me be lost in death. Don’t let me be shaken from the realm of the living. Keep me — body and soul — forever. The key to seeing this is noticing the “therefore” at the beginning of Psalm 16:9 and the “for” at the beginning of Psalm 16:10. This means that the joy of verse 9 is based on the confidence of verse 8 (“I will not be shaken,” but will be preserved), and it is also based on the confidence of verse 10, which tells us specifically what the confidence of verse 8 is: You won’t abandon me to Sheol (to death) and you won’t let my flesh see corruption. This is the preservation David wanted in verse 1, and the one he is confident he will have.
6 Barriers to Finding 'The One'

Scientists: The Entire Universe Is Slowly Dying
The team of 100 scientists determined that the galaxies were all radiating significantly less energy than they were in the distant past. One of the astronomers went as far as to cryptically say, “The universe has basically sat down on the sofa, pulled up a blanket and is about to nod off for an eternal doze." The team of astronomers delivered the tough news to inhabitants of the known universe that, according their calculations, has just a trillion years left to live. In the meantime, we have some advice for you, universe: You have just a trillion years left, dust off that bucket-list. Sing like there's nobody listening, love like you'll never be hurt and, by golly, dance like there's nobody watching.
Conflicting Thoughts of Grace
I am sure my mother was embarrassed and mortified, but I don’t remember any worried questions or concerns about why her little nine-year-old girl had already begun a career in adult publishing. I am not sure if she knew I had discovered The Basement, but the current issues of The Magazine(s) were always left on the coffee table in plain sight, so it really shouldn’t have been much of a surprise. But still, I don’t remember there being any indication that it was anything, outside of something bad in me, that brought that cute little comic into the world. This was my most shameful secret for many, many years.

Does the Holy Spirit Exist? | Reasonable Faith
The fact that the existence and work of the Holy Spirit belong to revealed, and not natural, theology does not imply that our belief in him is an act of “blind faith.” Rather, as Thomas Aquinas saw, these revealed truths are attended by certain “signs of credibility” that attest to their revealed status. Thomas was thinking of such signs as Jesus’ miracles and fulfilled prophecy. I think Jesus’ resurrection from the dead serves as such a sign of credibility. As I have tried to show, the historical Jesus made radical personal claims to be the long-awaited Jewish Messiah, the unique Son of God, and the prophesied Son of Man, and his resurrection from the dead, which is the best explanation of the facts concerning the fate of Jesus, is plausibly interpreted as God’s vindication of those radical personal claims for which he was crucified as a blasphemer.
A Rich Kid Set his Ferrari On Fire So He Could Get a New One
When the 20-year-old son of a Swiss millionaire took his Ferrari in for an appraisal, he found out that the trade-in value wouldn’t be enough to get an upgrade. Apparently, a car salesman suggested that insurance fraud was one way to get the cash, so instead of asking his dad, dipping into his roughly $10,000/month allowance or selling one of his 14 other cars, the kid opted for arson . He paid three friends to do the deed while he went for a massage. But, unfortunately, the arsonists were caught on tape by security cameras, and the whole scheme unraveled from there. Instead of a new Ferrari, the kid got a $32,000 fine and 22 months probation.
Leo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are Teaming Up Again for ‘The Devil in the White City’
A movie version of Erik Larson’s best-selling book The Devil in the White City —which tells the story of a serial killer who killed dozens of women during the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago—has been in the works for more than 10 years, bouncing around between studios and directors. And now, finally, the film is getting off the ground. Martin Scorsese has agreed to direct the film, with Leonardo DiCaprio producing and also starring as killer Dr. H.H. Holmes. It will be DiCaprio and Scorsese’s sixth film together since 2002. Screenwriter Billy Ray ( Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games ) will write the script.

“Thriller” shouldn’t be defined as “the level below horror on a scale of frightening-ness.” Thrillers should thrill. There are many ways this can happen—one, it seems, is to tediously feed the viewer scare-lite material for an hour and twenty minutes, and then fling wide the flood gates of terror. You get the thrill, but you have to wait for it.
The Virgin Birth - Did the Church Make Up Jesus' Virgin Birth? - Apologetics Guy
What would you say if someone asked you if the story of Jesus’ virgin birth was real, or if it was copied from other religions? In this post, you see how to think through a few challenges to the historicity of the Virgin Birth. First, we’ll answer the question “Was the Virgin Birth copied from myths?” Then, we’ll think through the idea that the first Christians just made the whole thing up.
Dr. Sproul discusses the fall of man (lapse) and the two major views concerning God's decree or decrees made in eternity past with respect to election and the fall. The two major views are infralapsarianism and supralapsarianism. The issue is, does God decree the fall in light of His election or does He decree election in light of the fall?

How do you explain the gospel to a non-Christian in two minutes?
I hope that everyone who reads my blog is passionate about the gospel and understands it enough to explain it to others. It is so practical, you can see the need for it immediately when you talk to people in any detail. People are in rebellion against God. We want to seek our own happiness from rational constraints, moral constraints, judgments and feelings of shame. We want to not have to care what other people think of us (unless they agree), and this goes double for the God of the universe. This is literally infuriating to God, since he is the one who gives us so many blessings. It is proper for us to to recognize and respect him in our decision making – even if we find his greatness offensive to our pride. Instead of respecting God, we attribute the blessings to blind luck. We refuse to acknowledge God in our decision-making, and not just in moral issues but in everything we do. This is just astonishing ingratitude, and for this we deserve to be punished. However, God has given us a way to be reconciled with him, by allowing his own Son to be punished in our place. This punishment of Jesus pays the debt that we owe to God for our rebellion against him.
Girls Who Were 12-Years-Old at the Time of the ‘Slender Man’ Stabbings to Be Tried as Adults
Their defense attorneys told the judge that the two girls—who are now 13—are mentally ill, and one still believes that make-believe characters like Slender Man, and even Harry Potter, are real. Their victim, who they brought to the woods and repeatedly viciously stabbed, survived the attack. Slender Man is one of the Internet’s more notorious creations: The mythical villain—who is the subject of YouTube videos and message board threads—is said to kidnap children and stalk playgrounds.
