Heartbreaking Video Shows How Technology Addiction Is Changing Childhood

Is a generation of kids missing out on a childhood of exploration and outdoor fun because of technology? The granola bar company Nature Valley has released this ad that asks three generations of people in several different families the same question: When you were a kid, what did you do for fun? While parents and grandparents talked about things like fishing, forests and baseball, many of today’s children discussed the hours they spent on mobile devices and playing video games. Sure, it’s a granola bar ad (and not exactly a scientific survey), but it’s still pretty a sobering commentary on how technology is changing the ways we spend our time.

Nike Brought ‘Space Jam’ Characters Back for This New Online Ad

Space Jam is back—sort of. Nike has released this commercial for its new Jordans, that feature NBA superstar Blake Griffin as well as a few familiar animated faces. The ad stars Marvin the Martian and Bugs Bunny, who—along with being classic Looney Tunes personalities—were both featured prominently in the classic ‘90s basketball adventure/comedy Space Jam. Could this be a hint at that a franchise reboot staring modern NBA stars, including Lebron James, is the works? It’s looking increasingly likely.

Why Can't Morals Be Grounded In Society?

Dr William Lane Craig was invited by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Christian Union, London to give a lecture titled "Can we be good without God?" In this video Dr Craig answers a question about the objectivity of morality. Should we consider morals to be objective? If so, why can't morals be "abiding" and objectively grounded in society? The lecture formed part of the Reasonable Faith Tour in October 2011. The Tour was sponsored by Damaris Trust, UCCF and Premier Christian Radio. The entire lecture "Can We Be Good Without God" can be viewed here: For more resources visit Dr Craig's website: We welcome your comments in the Reasonable Faith forums: Be sure to visit both of our Youtube channels for more videos: and More videos from the tour can be viewed at: Follow Reasonable Faith On Twitter: Add Reasonable Faith On Facebook: http://www.

John Newton on Broadway

I was familiar with Newton’s story, but the “slave trader” part of his autobiography had always been abstract for me. Watching this musical brought home to me the fact that John Newton was an evil man. When he wrote that God “saved a wretch like me,” he could think back on hundreds of lives that he himself had destroyed. Even after the experience of being personally enslaved in Sierra Leone, he continued to profit from the slave trade after he was freed. He was no Jean Valjean who merely stole a loaf of bread. Like the woman who washed Jesus’s feet in Luke 7, John Newton loved much because he was forgiven much.

Scientists: The Entire Universe Is Slowly Dying

The team of 100 scientists determined that the galaxies were all radiating significantly less energy than they were in the distant past. One of the astronomers went as far as to cryptically say, “The universe has basically sat down on the sofa, pulled up a blanket and is about to nod off for an eternal doze." The team of astronomers delivered the tough news to inhabitants of the known universe that, according their calculations, has just a trillion years left to live. In the meantime, we have some advice for you, universe: You have just a trillion years left, dust off that bucket-list. Sing like there's nobody listening, love like you'll never be hurt and, by golly, dance like there's nobody watching.

Hope > Cynicism

The voices we listen to shape our future. Our transition from cynicism to hope depends on whose voices we value and empower. During my battle with cynicism, voices that critiqued the modern church dominated my reading pattern. As I struggled to process the pain I experienced, my reading exacerbated the pain. I read more about what was broken than how it could be healed.

The Bird Still Sings: Why Christianity Cannot Be Silenced | RZIM

In America now it is fashionable to mock the bird of evangelicalism and try to silence it. But the song is being sung on other boughs and historic movements are taking place. In China, Korea, and the Middle East, places where once the gospel’s saving message seemed to be extinguished, churches are packed with hungry hearts, the youth listening to the gospel message with rapt attention. In countries where there was once hostility, crowds fill the auditoriums. In Romania, where to believe in God was once to put one’s life at risk, ten thousand filled the auditorium in which I spoke. From senators and other political leaders there we heard of the dark days of the past and of the shining hope of the future. We prayed in chambers once inhabited by a tyrant and were told this was probably the first time a prayer had been publicly uttered. They have witnessed what Christ-less lives can birth, shattering their countries and their hopes. They can now see that the only possible hope for transforming a heart is Jesus Christ.

The Different Tenses of Grace

God’s grace is ever cascading over the waterfall of the present from the inexhaustible river of grace coming to us from the future into the ever-increasing reservoir of grace in the past. In the next five minutes, you will receive sustaining grace flowing to you from the future, and you will accumulate another five minutes’ worth of grace in the reservoir of the past.

Pray this prayer today: “Dear Father, I admit that I often forget that you are with me. I often forget what you’re like. Would you please forgive me for that? I need to get to know you better. I need to get to know your Word and your promises better. Help me to put you first in every area of my life. Help me to live one day at a time. Help me to not worry about tomorrow but instead focus on what you’re doing in my life right now. I want to trust in your promise to take care of every one of my needs — financial, relational, physical, social, spiritual, and emotional. Help me to trust you more and worry less. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Self-Care and Self-Denial

The topic of self-care, particularly as it relates to physical and emotional health, has long confused and challenged me as a Christian. While I’ve deeply resonated with much of the common sense in the philosophy of self-care, other aspects have troubled me and seem completely incompatible with Christianity. I couldn’t agree with Scripture and at the same time agree with arguments encouraging me to pursue a self-focused, indulgent, comfort-based lifestyle. On the other hand, I heartily agreed in principle with discussions of self-care as stewardship. Still, I usually came away with more of a sense of heavy obligation than of freedom and gratitude. I often saw God as an auto mechanic pacing around, irritated and inconvenienced by my failure to get my car in for regular maintenance.

In This Day and Age, Evangelism Is Spelled: A-P-O-L-O-G-E-T-I-C-S

Dr. Richard Land , the president of Southern Evangelical Seminary has been saying this for some time now . When interviewed about his opening speech as the seminary’s fourth president, Lamb recalled, “I said in my inaugural address, that we were going to be involved in doing ‘apologetic evangelism’; that I was increasingly convinced, and have been even more so during the time that I’ve been here, that the way we’re going to spell evangelism, the way we’re going to spell missions, the way we’re going to spell discipleship in the twenty-first century is going to be APOLOGETICS.” I think Land is absolutely correct. We often hear it said “No one is argued into the Kingdom,” and while this statement may be true in many ways, my own experience converting to Christianity has convinced me of the truth of Dr. Land’s thoughtful insight.

Mutant Christianity

Dr. Craig: This is the paradox of the article. On the one hand there is the claim that increasing numbers of teenagers are becoming these sort of moral therapeutic deists, but then on the other hand she is saying that for others they just abandon Christianity all together because they are not challenged by this sort of milquetoast version of Christianity. I am not exactly sure how those are to be played out or reconciled. The headline is misleading for this article. The headline is “More teens becoming 'fake' Christians.” It isn't the idea that teenagers in general are turning to this type of Christianity. I think what she is saying is that teenagers who are in Christian churches already are increasingly becoming this type of pseudo-Christian. Others are just leaving altogether. So it is not as though this is a groundswell in the generation as a whole that is proving attractive to non-believers. Rather, she, I think, is identifying a problem among Christian believers within Christian churches where we are losing the younger generation to this pseudo-Christianity, or perhaps just losing them altogether.

Community Conquers Culture

That is, after all, how Jesus himself said it would be. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Our final apologetic is not persuasive public rhetoric or shrewdly identifying areas of common concern with society; it is our love for one another. Even in the twenty-first century, some opponents will turn, as early-church detractors did according to Tertullian, and say, “See how they love one another.”

Ligonier Ministries

This chapter is part of an Apostolic admonition to Christians who were torn apart by contentions in the church. They were behaving in an immature, fleshly manner, and at the heart of this ungodly behavior was a manifestation of certain talents, abilities, and gifts without the presence of love in their lives. In the opening verses, Paul speaks of love as the sine qua non of Christian virtue (1 Cor. 13:1–3). He’s speaking with hyperbole, intentionally exaggerating things to make his point. He starts off comparing love to the gift of tongues. Paul says, in effect, “I don’t care if you are fluent in fifty languages or if you have the gift to speak foreign languages miraculously. I don’t care if God has endowed you with the ability to speak the language of the heavenly host. If you don’t have love, the eloquence of your speech becomes noise. It becomes dissonance, an irritating and annoying racket.” He says here that if we speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, we become a sounding brass or a clanging symbol—mere noise.

Jupiter's icy moon Europa may be the best place in the solar system to look for extraterrestrial life, according to NASA. The moon is about the size of Earth's moon, and there is evidence it has an ocean beneath its frozen crust that may hold twice as much water as Earth. NASA's 2016 budget includes a request for $30 million to plan a mission to investigate Europa. The image above was taken by the Galileo spacecraft on November 25, 1999. It's a 12-frame mosaic and is considered the the best image yet of the side of Europa that faces Jupiter.

Raising future men and women

There are no generic people. There are men, and there are women. Consequently there are no generic Christian people. There are Christian men and there are Christian women. In Genesis 1-2, Ephesians 5, 1 Peter 3, and Colossians 3, we find clarity about the primary roles of men and women. There are differing ways in which men and women will live out the Christian life. For instance, when giving specific instruction and admonition to men, the Bible usually does so within three key categories: leading, providing and protecting. In other words, biblical masculinity involves a heart that is inclined to obey God within this particular context of leadership, provision and protection. This may take place predominantly as husbands and fathers, but it still should be cultivated, encouraged and instilled in boys as they mature into manhood.

Stealing From God (paperback)

FANTASTIC! This book takes the tiger by the tail and calls those that rant against Christianity to the carpet, with THE EVIDENCE, THE TRUTH, and breaks down EXACTLY what they "stand" for and against, and what is shown in this book, they have NOTHING to stand on. EVERY CHRISTIAN should know the facts and tactics, atheists use against Christianity, and with that knowledge, the atheist sand castle can't possibly stand. Thank you, Frank for all the effort and research to put this book together. It compels me to know Hiis Word and their tactics, and now I feel MUCH more equipped, and confident when I encounter and engage, an atheist, not to rant back at them, but to present real truth, to help them think and prayerfully find who it is they rage against, and truly find Jesus.

How Can Christians Think A Perfect God Created Such An Imperfect Creation? Frank Turek Responds

At Fresno State University, a student raises an objection to the Argument from Design (the teleological argument). How can Christians argue there is a God by pointing to such a poor creation? For the entire 1 hour DVD or Mp3 Q & A from Fresno State go to:

What it Actually Means to Love Your Enemies

The love required of Christians goes beyond loving one another, however. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:43-45). Jesus knew He was saying something radical. He knew that the world's standard was and is to love our neighbors and hate our enemies. Jesus wants more of His followers, however.

8 Biographies Everyone Should Read

In today's intellectual climate of specialization, I would like to see more biographies like the Metaxas book. What exactly is Bonhoeffer scholarship standards? If a Bonehoeffer scholar wrote a book about Bonehoeffer, it might not be accessible to the public. My question is--------why aren't there more writers like Metaxas who will make important figures understandable to the public? I read half of the Metaxas book (I had to give it back to my friend) and I found it to be weighty and researched. I especially enjoyed the part of Metaxas book about Bonehoeffer's time in America and his dilemma about what to do here. Maybe you could explain why it is not up to par or better----tell us what we should read that would match your scholarship standards.

The only decision that matters

I am excited. While I would not choose this direction for our country or our culture, and though I lament the very real harm that this Supreme Court decision will do in millions of lives, I also believe that a sovereign God rules supreme in human affairs and He is at work making of the nations a heritage for His Son. The Triune God has not called an emergency session and will not be announcing a strategy of response to the latest development. He is working all things—even and especially this—to His glory for our good.

Straight, Bible-Believing Christians Can Undermine God’s Plan for Marriage Too

It seems that everyone has an opinion about Gay Marriage, and these opinions are rarely ambivalent. Christians have (and rightly so) been outspoken in their opposition to a redefinition of marriage. This recasting of the institution of marriage is not, we would argue, a progressive and healthy advancement but rather a disastrous detour from what biblical, therefore, right and good.

A Guide to Church Revitalization

church willingly submits to the authority of Christ, there is no confusion about where the final word lies. Once during a deacons’ meeting, I had to confront a deacon about non-attendance at church. When he pointedly asked me where in the Bible it says we have to be at church, I replied: “Hebrews 10:25, ‘Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some.’” That ended the discussion. Only a church’s commitment to the authority of Christ has the power to do that.

10 reasons why I've decided to become pro-choice.

This would be a great analogy save one thing. Its not a clump of cells its a human being. Its not a matter of a “moral pedestal” or depriving women of a choice. I care very deeply about the health of women. The fundamental disagreement is whether it is a human or not. Jump in my shoes for a minute. Lets say im right and from the moment of conception this new child comes into existence. That means since roe vs wade over 50 million children have been killed. Thats why i feel the right to be outraged over this. i would love to hear your opinion about when life begins in the womb. For now i will leave this link to share with you.

Satan Wants to Eat Your Faith for Breakfast, John Piper Says

Sex is More AND Less Important Than You Think

In response to this radical downplaying of the seriousness of sex, the Church must step up and say, “Sexuality is far more serious than you think.” Casual sex is a myth. It is a radically diminished view of sex that kidnaps it from its covenantal home and strips it of its spiritual dimension. That’s why the Church must  say  and show  how sexuality is a serious matter.

Christianity's Most Famous Beer Enthusiasts

Like many of America’s founding fathers, Samuel Adams was outspoken about his faith and frequently wrote of the virtues of Christianity. As the Governor of Massachusetts, he issued a Proclamation for a Day of Public Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer, saying, “That with true repentance and contrition of Heart, we may unitedly implore the forgiveness of our Sins, through the merits of Jesus Christ, and humbly supplicate our Heavenly Father, to grant us the aids of his Grace, for the amendment of our Hearts and Lives, and vouchsafe his smiles upon our temporal concerns.” Some of his final words were, “Principally, and first of all, I resign my soul to the Almighty Being who gave it, and my body I commit to the dust, relying on the merits of Jesus Christ for the pardon of my sins.”

WWE's Titus O'Neil Says 'Family Dinner' With the Homeless 'Brought Him to Tears'

If that's within you to help these people and you saw how your co-worker responded, it's your responsibility to help them," said O'Neil. "I asked him are you a believer? Do you believe in God? He said yes. And he said I believe in helping people. I said that would have been the perfect opportunity to activate your faith."

20 Lessons in 20 Years of Pastoral Ministry

Programs, gimmicks, and personalities don’t change people’s hearts. Nor do they invigorate churches that have been in decline for over 30 years. For the last two decades, I’ve watched the gospel free people from the bondage of sin and give hope to the hopeless. I’ve watched it unite old and young, black and white, rich and poor. The good news has brought our church back to life. Indeed, it is powerful enough to change lives and revitalize any local church.

The Atheist Who Didn't Exist

Yet when one pokes at popular atheism, many of the arguments used to prop it up quickly unravel. Be an atheist by all means: but do be a thought-through one.

Democratic-leaning women shifted 10 percentage points away from the Democratic candidate and toward the Republican candidate after listening to the ads. Hispanics shifted 13 points, and young voters, ages 18 to 34, shifted 8 points. The only group to shift in the opposite direction, from being more likely to support the Republican candidate to more likely to support the Democratic candidate, after hearing the anti-abortion ads, were white men.
