The Lord's Day Is a Gift from God

When our Lord lay in the tomb from Friday evening through early Sunday morning, the old order of things was buried with Him; when He rose again, He began a new order of things. This is why the Gospel of John speaks of the first day of the week as the eighth day, literally, “after eight days” (20:26). It was not just the beginning of another week, but, in fact, a new beginning. This was because the resurrection of Christ was the firstfruits of the final resurrection and restoration of all things (Rom. 8:18–25; 1 Cor. 15:23). On the Lord’s Day, our worship is a commemoration of Christ’s accomplished work and triumphant resurrection, and an anticipation of the day of re-creation, when the Lord shall make all things new (Rev. 21:4–5). But it is also a participation in the age to come already in this age. As Paul says, upon us “the end of the ages has come” (1 Cor. 10:11). We have entered this Sabbath rest, according to the writer to the Hebrews: “For we who have believed enter that rest… for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his” (Heb.

2 God’s Crime Scene: Review and Reflections - Saints and Sceptics

J Warner Wallace’s “God’s Crime Scene” is beautifully produced, visually engaging, delightfully accessible, practically useful, engaging, entertaining and (best of all) true. Wallace, an experienced cold-case detective, suggests that the reader approach the universe as a sleuth would approach a dead body in a sealed room. An investigating officer will want to know if the death can be explained without involving anyone else from outside the room. Was it a death from natural causes, an accident or suicide? But he will also look for signs of an intruder – evidence of an outsider. Similarly, we should ask if the natural realm can explain the evidence of design, free-will, consciousness and morality. Or is the natural world evidence of a divine outsider? Is the universe a sign of a supernatural intruder?

Cultivating Contentment

“Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:15–21)

4 Truthbomb Apologetics: My Favorite Apologetics Apps

Hello O.C., How are you brother? I went with the Android! I just wanted to be able to say that I have my own "droid!" I purchased it for two main reasons: 1) I was going away and "The Wife" was nervous about not being able to contact me. She liked the idea of texting. 2) The apologetics apps! I've been eyeing them for awhile! I really like them all of them. They all have their strengths! I hope you and your dear family are well and please tell them I said, "Hi!" Love you brother!

The Crucial Difference Between Managing and Leading

It’s been said many times by many different people that everything rises or falls on leadership. I don’t think that’s ever truer than in ministry. Charles McKay, a former professor at California Baptist College, used to tell us if you want to know the temperature of your church, put the thermometer in your mouth. That’s a good statement. You can’t ever take people farther than you are yourself, spiritually or any other way.

Does the Cumulative Case for Design Point to a Divine Designer? | Cold Case Christianity

Much has been written about the evidence for design in biological organisms. In fact, the appearance of design is largely uncontroversial. Even famed atheist and evolutionist, Richard Dawkins has written, “Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.” But what, precisely, are the attributes of design most of us believe (either consciously or unconsciously) are most reasonably explained by an intelligent designer? In my new book, God’s Crime Scene: A Cold-Case Detective Examines the Evidence for A Divinely Created Universe , I make a case for Intelligent Design based on the contributions of many great scientists and thinkers, my own experience as a designer (my education and training is in design and architecture) and my professional investigative career as a detective. The result: a cumulative case approach to the appearance of design and the reasonable inference of an Intelligent Designer. I believe there are eight attributes of design we employ when reasonably inferring the existence of a Designer. To make them easie

The Importance of Studying Apologetics Regularly

I was recently asked, what is the role of apologetics? What is the value for the average Christian in studying apologetics? Is there any profit to doing so? This is a great question. I see apologetics not as an end in itself but rather a means to an end. In other words, when I'm talking to people who don't share my faith convictions, for example, non-believers, I don't bring up apologetic issues. It’s not like I start off by trying to talk about stem cell research, or abortion, or Islam, or homosexuality, or evolution. Rather, when I talk to someone who doesn't share my faith, I want to present to them the gospel, Jesus Christ.

WORLD | Fetal organs harvested for lab rats | Jamie Dean | July 31, 2015

In January, researchers at Ganogen Inc., a biotech company based in Redwood City, Calif., said they had transplanted dozens of fetal kidneys into lab rats. The ultimate goal: Learn how to grow fetal organs to a larger size in a lab animal, with the hopes of transferring the organs into ailing adults in need of transplants.

Why French Kids Don't Have ADHD

Many of these other comments make assumptions about the other respondent's levels of income, knowledge about nutrition and supplementation, home environments/structure that in many of the above cases are simply not stated. My own child with ADHD was raised in the same psycho-social, economic, cultural, and nutritional context as my children without ADHD. I resisted medications with him until he was in high school. Two of the four children attended the same schools and were raised by the same parents. Given many of the previous comments, it would stand to reason that neither or both of my children would have or not have ADHD. That is just wrong thinking. Despite a high level of attention to nutrition, a disciplined home life, and excellent structure my son with ADHD struggled in school, had extreme difficulty with focus in the classroom, had terrible success at maintaining schedules, and ultimately failed as a public school student despite being one of the most intelligent, kind, and generous adults I know. He learns differently. Period. And the benefits afforded parents due to all the social differences Laura mentions may have made a big difference in my son's educational outcome.

Planned Parenthood’s Mammogram Lie

Even the liberal Washington Post doled out a three (out of four) Pinocchio rating for the White House’s mammogram lies. “The problem here is that Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms or even possess the necessary equipment to do so,” the paper’s resident fact-checker reported. “As such, the organization certainly does not ‘provide’ mammograms in the strict sense. Instead, its clinics provide referrals and direct low-income women toward resources to help pay for the procedure. These services are by no means unique to Planned Parenthood. In fact, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society provide them, as well.”

5 Misconceptions About Evangelism

Don’t get me wrong, salvation is important, but the evangelism process doesn’t just stop when people accept Christ. Our intent should be a proclamation of good news that allows us to progress along with them in a journey, not just a one-step process where we leave them once we achieved our goal of “saving them.”

Seven Subtle Symptoms of Pride

As seriously dangerous as pride is, it’s equally hard to spot. When it comes to diagnosing our hearts, those of us who have the disease of pride have a challenging time identifying our sickness. Pride infects our eyesight, causing us to view ourselves through a lens that colors and distorts reality. Pride will paint even our ugliness in sin as beautiful and commendable.

Ancient Lizards in Amber Identical to Modern Cousins : DNews

McKellar and his team made the discovery after screening over 4,000 amber samples from Grassy Lake, Alberta. The amber, collected by the Leuck family, is now housed at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. The researchers ruled out that the inclusions were mammal hairs, plant or fungal remains based on their structure. Some dinosaur fossils retain skin impressions, so the scientists could match dinosaur protofeathers (hair-like projections) to some of the objects within the amber. Here, a feather is visible near a plant bug. The high number of coils in the this feather suggests it could have come from a water-diving bird. Science/AAAS

Pray for Your Children

As I heard those earnest cries, tears welled up. That night I realized at new depth that this is the job of every Christian parent. We are to be priests to our children. The priesthood of all believers is not just for theological arguments or proper ecclesiology. It has very practical application for every parent.

21
Identity Chaos

Feeling ripped off and envious, we question the goodness, love, and wisdom of God. Why would he single us out for this treatment? Why would that person (who clearly doesn't deserve it) experience life in abundance? But notice the danger here – we define "the good life" in physical, horizontal terms rather than vertical, spiritual relationship with God.

“A Lot of People Want Intact Hearts These Days” — Planned Parenthood, Abortion, and the Conscience of a Nation

The video reveals Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director of medical services for Planned Parenthood, discussing the intentional harvesting of organs and other tissues from babies aborted in Planned Parenthood clinics. While reaching with her fork for salad, Dr. Nucatola openly tells a group she believes to be medical researchers that there is a great demand for fetal livers, but “a lot of people want intact hearts these days.”

Drained of my defensiveness, I’ve stopped responding with a resolute, “I don’t!” and started asking, "Why would you think that?" This isn’t an either/or situation.

A Sincere Question For Those Who Identify as Transgender

Others have reached out to me as followers of Jesus, asking about God's will for their lives after having sex-change surgery, while still others have spoken to me about their fulfillment as transgender Christians. And yet the longer we interact, the more pain and uncertainty I hear, almost as if they must continue to prove to themselves (and others) that they did the right thing. (Again, you can chalk this up to systemic "transphobia" or you can ask yourself if there are other factors at work.)

31
Suffering That Crushes Faith

If you think your suffering is pointless, or that God is not in control, or that he is whimsical or cruel, then your suffering will drive you from God, instead of driving you from everything but God — as it should. So it is crucial that faith in God’s grace includes the faith that he gives grace through suffering.

Forgery in the Bible: Was Mark's Gospel Forged? - Apologetics Guy

Still, Ehrman’s got one thing right about Mark and the rest of the New Testament gospels: They were all originally anonymous. But here’s the thing. There was a time when people of a certain area only had one gospel account, so it didn’t really even need to be called by the author’s name. That might sound a bit odd to us in the 21st century, since we’ve got names and model numbers for almost everything we own. But maybe this illustration will help.

5 Reasons the Church Should Embrace Science

He meant well, and I appreciated his concern and prayer for protection, but I was disheartened. It was not the first time (or the last time) that a mature, well-meaning believer has reacted to my career choice with hesitation or outright concern. I’ll admit, my experience in academia is that it is not a warm, fuzzy place for Christians. Academia appears to be a place where faith is not welcome. But it certainly does not have to be a place where faith dies. In fact, I’m calling on Christians to pursue the sciences.

Serving the Least of These

I have not yet met any of the babies who have been so well cared for there. I see plenty of their pictures because my daughter Darby has been able to hold some of those babies–I look forward to the opportunity I may get on this day to meet some of them. But I also look forward to years and years of ministry to come. When we lean on Jesus who reigns, when we look to Him to deliver us, when we look to Him for our provision we can expect Him to move in power. I know that makes me sound like some sort of crazy prosperity preacher, but I’m not talking about our prosperity. I am talking about serving the least of these.

Frank Turek - God’s Crime Scene

It’s about 2 a.m. on an August morning in 1979. A beautiful young nurse by the name of Lynne Knight is living in a bungalow behind a larger house in Torrance, California. As two police officers approach her door, they notice a chair overturned in the entryway and bloody footsteps leading back to the rear bedroom. Each officer has his gun drawn, not sure what to expect.

All This Sudden Outrage...So Where's All the Training?

Since the expose’ of the horrific, gruesome practices going on behind the “pro-women” facade of Planned Parenthood, there has been more outcry from the church over the egregious injustice being done to unborn human beings than I can remember ever witnessing. In case you missed it, one of the sting videos released over the past week includes footage of a dead baby being dissected for its body parts, then the doctor calls it “another boy!” Absolutely chilling and gut-wrenching. Yes, we should be outraged.

Best Advice for Dating Couples

Rishmawy, who previously served as director of college and young adult ministries at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Orange County, California, offers “one general piece” of advice for couples desiring a God-honoring relationship: be committed to the local church. This, he says, is a key marker of a healthy Christian relationship: “The biggest job is encouraging the other person to be in the church, plugged in, butt in the pew, listening to preaching, [and] in godly relationships with other people.” Failure in this doesn’t bode well, Greear adds. According to Rishmawy the greatest danger isn’t sexual immorality but turning the other person or the relationship into an idol since other sins flow from this source.
