10 Surprisingly Simple Tips for Talking with Cult Members - Part 2 - Apologetics Guy

The Atheist Delusion MP4

From Living Waters, creators of the award-winning TV program "The Way of the Master" and the hit movies "180" and "Evolution vs. God," comes the powerful film "The Atheist Delusion." Executive produced by TV co-host and best-selling author Ray Comfort ( Hell's Best Kept Secret , Scientific Facts in the Bible ). Having to prove the existence of God to an atheist is like having to prove the existence of the sun, at noon on a clear day. Yet millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism. "The Atheist Delusion" pulls back the curtain and reveals what is going on in the mind of those who deny the obvious. It introduces you to a number of atheists who you will follow as they go where the evidence leads, find a roadblock, and enter into a place of honesty that is rarely seen on film.

Yes, Christians Are Hypocrites—If by “Hypocrite” You Mean “Sinner”

Andy Bannister explains that, contrary to Christopher Hitchens’s claim, religion isn’t what poisons everything. The problem is much deeper, more pervasive, and far more personal. The problem is us. We poison everything. And, as it happens, that is precisely why we need Jesus. Far from contradicting Christianity, the existence of...

The Gospel Coalition 2017 National Conference

In this workshop, we'll talk about the Rev. Oscar Pfister, an evangelical Protestant pastor, who was a close associate and friend of Sigmund Freud. Although Freud respected Pfister as both a cleric and a scholar, Pfister focused on points of his agreement with Freud's research and psychoanalysis rather than making much of the faulty presuppositions in Freud's worldview. Most disturbingly, it seems as though this "man of God" whom Freud and his whole family clearly loved, never insisted on the gospel's demands on Freud's life. Not only was Freud never converted, he was lulled into thinking there were powerful areas of overlap between his worldview and Pfister's. The story is a cautionary tale for those who mistake "relational evangelism" and "cultural engagement" for gospel-oriented worldview apologetics predicated on incommensurable presuppositions.

9 America's Extreme Abortion Laws

But it gets even more interesting and relevant to current debates. The study also found that over sixty percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortions, and nearly eight in ten want abortion clinics held to the same standard as other outpatient surgery centers—a rule the U.S. Supreme Court just struck down in Texas. And speaking of the Supreme Court, seventy percent of those surveyed say doctors who perform abortions should be required to have hospital admitting privileges—another Texas requirement declared unconstitutional by the Court. And most remarkably, Americans agree by a margin of 20 percent that religious healthcare providers should not be forced to perform abortions against their deeply-held beliefs.

The Story of Iran’s Church in Two Sentences

As a result, more Iranians have become Christians in the last 20 years than in the previous 13 centuries put together since Islam came to Iran. In 1979, there were an estimated 500 Christians from a Muslim background in Iran. Today, there are hundreds of thousands—some say more than 1 million. Whatever the exact number, many Iranians are turning to Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Prayers of the People form - Rise

Also read this volume so that you can be pray for this vision of the Rise campaign: that New York would be a more just, beautiful, merciful, and kind city because the people within it are living more and more for God and their neighbor. What if the culture rising out of New York had the gospel in its DNA? Because of New York’s influence as a leading global city, it could catalyze renewal far beyond just one city. This is a vision that must begin and end in prayer. It begins in prayer because we could never accomplish all we hope to do in our own power. It ends in prayer because only that way will we increasingly become like our God who calls for the peace and flourishing of all.

The Cambrian Explosion and Evolutionists’ Responses – Reasons to Believe

You will find more such quotes in chapter 13 of Improbable Planet . To be clear, I am not saying you will not find evolutionary biologists who claim to have an evolutionary explanation for the Cambrian explosion. I have met several. However, those that claim to have an explanation deny the suddenness of the event and the rapidity of its occurrence relative to the physical and chemical events that first make the existence of these animals possible. Typically, they assert that the Cambrian animals appeared in gradually more advanced forms over the course of 40–50 million years . Those evolutionary biologists who are aware of the data establishing the challenges listed above acknowledge that the challenges defy all macroevolutionary models.

Why we should question Christianity

As a follower of Christ and someone who engages in apologetics regularly, I am always open to questions about why Christianity is true and so forth. I think there are many people who genuinely seek truth and answers but nonetheless they do have some intellectual hurdles to get by. I was one of those people. I didn’t have a Damascus road experience, I had a slow, gradual movement into Christianity that was through what I think was logic, reason and a lot of questions. Because of how I was brought into Christianity, I want to help other people who are like me, or were like me, in that I can possibly answer questions and by the grace of God, help people into the Christian faith, it’s where I feel I’ve been called to be.

Ask RC: Where Are Evangelicals Wrong On The Bible? - R.C. Sproul Jr.

First, we tend to believe the whole Bible is not for us. The great bulk of evangelicals are practical Marcionites. Marcion was an ancient heretic who wanted to excise from the Bible the mean and nasty God of the Old Testament. We, thankfully, do not go that far. We simply ignore the Old Testament, seeing it as a helpful collection of religious stories that, when it embarrasses us, can be safely swept away.

16 No Christianity, No Hospitals

This highlights the foolishness of the pro-abortion ideological crusade against Christian professionals and organizations in health care. As we’ve talked about before on BreakPoint, Washington State is already forcing Christian pharmacists (who by the way got no help from the Supreme Court) to choose between their faith and their careers. If states or the federal government attempt to force Christian hospitals to perform abortions, and those hospitals close their doors, the results would be catastrophic.

Count the Cost in the New America

Jesus calls his disciples to be innocent as doves and wise as serpents (Matthew 10:16). Christians should be compassionate and tender toward all people, especially unbelievers, because all are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) and, without Christ, are sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36). Yet, Christians must be bold and clear regarding biblical truth, never calling evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). Every conversation is an opportunity to plant seeds of the gospel — with clarity, compassion, confidence, and gentleness — in the lives of those around us, trusting in the work of the Holy Spirit to bring lasting conviction and change.

The Real Cost (and Power) of Seeking Justice

My prayer, in this moment of deep grief, is that we will allow the murders of Willie, Josephat and Joseph to move us, perhaps as we have never been moved before—moved to compassion, to courage, to godly action. In a moment in history when the eyes of the world are staring in numbness and in shock at such violence, it is only fair to ask, where are the Christ-followers? Are they in the fight, “seeking justice, rescuing the oppressed” (Isa. 1.17)? I see Christians in Kenya leading the fight, “joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer” (Rom. 12:12). The question is whether they will do so alone. Or will the Body of Christ around the world rally to their side, because “if one part suffers, every part suffers with it” (1 Cor. 12:26)?

24
Be Known for What You’re for, Not Just What You’re Against

Do Christians know what they actually are for? Can they articulate it in a graceful and non-judging way? Do they understand God's story and what he is actually trying to do? Can they communicate the positives of God's plan for sex, money, justice, marriage, humility, economics, etc.? Can they continue to watch the secularization of society and not fight against it but instead offer a new way full of life and hope and peace? Will their lives reflect theses truths or will it reflect compromise and hypocrisy?

Devils in the Church - R.C. Sproul Jr.

That craftiness is brought back to the fore for us when Paul speaks of the devil in 2 Corinthians 11:14 where he tells us the devil transforms himself into an angel of light. Well if he’s crafty, wouldn’t you think he would want us to forget to look for him as an angel of light? Don’t we tend to think that when the devil shows up, we recognize it because we’re finding ourselves overcome with some kind of desire, some sort of illicit desire. We think that when he begins to influence us we start to grow fangs, our eyes turn to fire, and our muscles grow Hulk-like. And then we pursue our madness like a bull in a china shop.

Being Real About Being Real

Father in heaven, I am so grateful for my Millennial brothers and sisters. Their earnestness to live real honors you and is a pointer to your existence — that there is such a thing as ultimate Reality. I pray that their “love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment” (Philippians 1:9). I pray that they will “know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge [and] be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19). And I pray that they will ultimately experience more profoundly authentic community than they have imagined and that you will use this precious generation that’s as big as (or bigger than) the Baby Boomers to make an even bigger impact for the global glory of Jesus Christ and the completion of the Great Commission. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

4 Ways Christians Can Be Better with Their Money

I was apprehensive to click this article link, because I didn't want to open it to hear the, although true and valid - overdone list of tithing, giving, saving, and the over-usage of the word "stewardship"(lucky for you, it was only used once;) ) I think your list covers the most basic approach to getting on top of your finances, which is appreciated by those who are already overwhelmed by their debt. To be advised that I need to just give more and invest wisely in markets I know nothing about only causes me more hopelessness than when I started my journey to monetary security. What I gather from your article is that there are simple (if not easy) steps one can take NOW to getting above water with their money, and that sticking with it will develop a habit that makes these things easier and easier to accomplish. I think we can forget sometimes that the practical steps we take to being responsible with our funds is an act of worship, even when it's not tithing or being spent directly on ministry. Fiscal responsibility IS obedience to God, in whatever shape it takes. Thank you for sharing this article.

God Works in Those Who Wait

When Jesus displays his patience, he not only shows us the very patience of his Father, but he does so as fully human. He demonstrates the kind of divine life that can be expressed in our own human flesh. And so the Bible is full of calls to Christ-like patience. The New Testament gives us at least five specific situations in which God empowers us to wait well. Consider these as prompts for prayer and particular opportunities to seek greater patience in the strength he supplies (1 Peter 4:11).

31 Daleiden’s Charges Dropped

Back in January, David Daleiden, the man behind the undercover videos of Planned Parenthood’s baby body parts scandal, was indicted for misdemeanor and felony charges. At the same time, a Grand Jury cleared Planned Parenthood of any wrongdoing, despite ample proof the organization knowingly violated the law by trafficking fetal body parts.

32
Christianity Was Never Meant to Be Provable

Naturalists seem to forget that the Bible was not meant to be “scientific” in the strictest sense, and those parts that do not align with the discoveries of modern science in no way negates its validity. There are many mediums of truth. For instance, there are two Creation accounts in Genesis (1:1-2:3 and 2:4-2:25), but they can both be seen as valid because they describe the Creation event from different angles. They are like a caricature and a photograph of the same person: different, but not contradictory.

Defending Your Faith in the Classroom

My first piece of advice to this student is to be thoughtful. Exchanges with those in authority need to be judicious and part of that is weighing what the reaction to an objection may be. Jesus told us, "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves" (Matt 10:16, ESV) and that applies here. The professor is the "man with the microphone," which means he controls the conversation. That also means you probably won't be able to have a sustained argument in class, which is appropriate since that's really not what the class is for anyway.

Can that be Right? The Use of Old Testament Prophesy in the New Testament

It’s Christmas season and that means renewed attention on Messianic prophecy. Ah, the familiar sounds of “a virgin shall give birth,” “the government shall be upon his shoulders,” and good ole “Bethlehem Ephrathah.” It makes a churchgoer feel all warm and cuddly inside.

Fun Islamic Facts 3: Satan Pees in Your Ears (David Wood)

http://www.answeringmuslims.com Welcome to “Fun Islamic Facts,” where I share fun facts about Muhammad and the Qur’an whenever jihadis go on a killing spree. In our last installment, we found Muhammad threatening his followers with hell if they didn’t pee properly. Muhammad’s obsession with urine continues as he attempts to give one of his amazing scientific explanations for why people oversleep. Sahih al-Bukhari 1144: Narrated Abdullah: A man was mentioned before the Prophet and he was told that he kept on sleeping till morning and did not get up for As-Salat (i.e., the Fajr prayer—the dawn prayer). The Prophet said, “Satan urinated in his ears.” So, when a Muslim sleeps through his prayer, it’s not because he’s tired, or lazy, or doesn’t really care about Islam; it’s because the devil took a whiz in his ears. Leave it to the prophet of Islam to bring Satan’s whiz into a discussion about prayer and self-discipline. To all of you Muslims who are watching and find the sound of urine revolting, now you know how we feel . . . whenever we read about your prophet. For more on Muhammad and the Qur'an, watch these videos by David Wood: "Who Killed Muhammad?": https://www.

‘Left Behind’ Co-Author Tim LaHaye Has Died at the Age of 90

Though he’s probably best known for his novels, LaHaye was an influential figure in Christian education—he founded San Diego Christian College, the Institute for Creation Research, a dozen Christian secondary schools and Liberty University’s Tim LaHaye School of Prophecy. In a statement, his Left Behind co-author Jerry Jenkins said, “Thrilled as I am that he is where he has always wanted to be, his departure leaves a void in my soul that I don't expect to be filled until I see him again.”

Fall Course Offering: The Pentateuch

What is   the relationship of the Old Testament with the New Testament? Has the New Testament rendered the Old Testament void? Why wasn’t Moses able to enter the Promised Land? Why are there so many laws given to Israel? Who is Melchizedek, and why he is he in the Bible? Did angels breed with humans to create a race of giants? How old is the earth? Why was Cain’s offering not accepted while Abel’s offering was? There are many questions surrounding the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch. The Pentateuch is foundational for the rest of Scripture. Christians readily recognize the importance of the Creation narrative, the record of the Fall, the covenant of God with Abraham, the Exodus of Israel from Egypt, and the establishment of the Passover. However, there is a fair amount of ignorance pertaining to the overall theology of the Pentateuch. The authors of the other biblical books frequently refer to the Pentateuch in their writings. Jesus himself quoted more from Deuteronomy than any other book. The Pentateuch is crucial for the development of a well-balanced theology.

The size of your God should determine the size of your goal. You haven’t really believed God until you’ve attempted something that can’t be done in the power of the flesh. If you want to know how big your dream should be, ask yourself two questions: How much time do you have to give to it? If it’s a dream you can give the rest of your life to, then you can really dream big.

If the myriad of tragic events of the last few weeks has done anything for Americans, it's shown us the stark need for justice in the world. Why the Appearance of Design in Biology Is a Problem for Atheistic Naturalism

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
