God Must Exist: Truth Telling and Lying

Kindle Deals in Christian Apologetics: This Week's Top Ten Best-Sellers!

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Lori Alexander is right: serious Christian men prefer debt-free virgins without tattoos

Tattoos are a problem for serious Christian men for several reasons. First, they cost money and for no gain, and can even cause you losses in your career. Second, most people get them because of low self-esteem or vanity or to look rebellious or to look dangerous. None of these motivations should be acted upon by someone with a robust Christian worldview. The money could be better used on charity, or investments, etc. Women show what their priorities really are by how they spend their money and time. Show me a woman’s bookshelf, and I’ll tell how seriously she has thought about what it means to be a Christian in all areas of life. Instead of showing me your tattoos to demonstrate your “spirituality”, show me your apologetics books, to demonstrate your intellectual engagement. And tell me how you used that information to engage in conversations, and write blog posts answering challenges to your faith. That way I’ll know that you use your money to train do hard things in order to have an influence for Christ in serious, practical, effective ways. A woman who can defend her faith and discuss Christianity with non-Christians is demonstrating her ability to raise Christian children in a secular society.

Are Moral Truths Encoded in Our DNA? | Cold Case Christianity

This View Defies the Evidence Sociologists and psychologists have been conducting baby studies for several years now in an effort to discover which moral traits (if any) are inherent and common to the human species. A Yale study referenced in a 60 Minutes episode revealed the problem. In one part of the experiment, 5 month old babies were given a “puppet play” to watch. In the play, a stuffed animal attempts to open a box and is either assisted by a white teddy bear that gently comes to its aid, or defeated by a blue teddy bear that brusquely pounces on the box lid. Afterward, babies most often choose to embrace the white teddy bear. The researchers (naturalists who would certainly reject the notion moral truths are grounded in the nature of God) initially attempt to explain the behavior as an evidence of the babies innate (genetic) sense of justice, arguing that the babies reward the well-intended effort of the white bear by favoring it. A better explanation, however, is simply that the baby fears the ill-behaved, brutal blue bear as a matter of self-preservation. This also seems consistent with the second findings of the study.

Christian Paradigm Power: Atheism is Impossible

Genesis and ANE Accounts of Creation

They claim there are plenty of similarities between the ANE accounts and that found in Genesis, so there is nothing unique about the Bible and it certainly is not God’s inerrant word. How might we respond to such charges? While the discussion can be rather complex, let me try to offer a brief, introductory discussion on all this.

The Danger of False Ideas about God | Stand to Reason

Among the sins to which the human heart is prone, hardly any other is more hateful to God than idolatry, for idolatry is at bottom a libel on His character. The idolatrous heart assumes that God is other than He is—in itself a monstrous sin—and substitutes for the true God one made after its own likeness. Always this God will conform to the image of the one who created it and will be base or pure, cruel or kind, according to the moral state of the mind from which it emerges….

The Bible Is True, But …

No book is misused, misunderstood or collects more dust than the Bible.  Much of this stems from some misconceptions about what it is. While the Bible is 100 percent true, there are a few “buts” to consider. It’s important that we understand these buts so we can have a better understanding of the Bible and the message it’s communicating. Not only what the Bible is, but also what it isn’t. The BUTs are important.

Extraordinary Claims and Extraordinary Evidence

At first this statement may sound reasonable. For instance, I am more likely to believe you if you tell me you had breakfast this morning than I would believe you if you told me that you levitated off the ground this morning without anything holding you up. But does the fact that I believe you if you say you did something ordinary and I don't believe you if you say you did something extraordinary support the statement that "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence?" Actually, it doesn't. Although I may believe that you ate breakfast this morning, I must obtain supporting evidence if I want to actually determine whether or not that fact is true. If you have cleaned up your kitchen, such evidence may be hard to find. I might have to pump out the contents of your stomach, for instance to see what you ate and when you ate it. It is one thing to say that I believe you ate breakfast because it is an "ordinary" event, but it is quite another to actually find enough evidence to validate your claim. My point is that actual validation of any event requires sufficient evidence. It seems to me there are two major categories of "extraordinary" claims that need to be considered.

BreakPoint: Why Some Christians Embrace LGBT Theology

In the pamphlet, a woman who describes herself as a lesbian Christian says she had an “encounter with God,” and that He told her “You’re gay. I made you this way…This is who you are.” She was shocked to find that her church wasn’t buying this. “[T]hey wanted to know how I could scripturally justify what I was telling them,” she says. “They didn’t care so much about this spiritual encounter I’d had with God.” But isn’t that the same thing we ask of Mormons or Muslims or cult leaders who justify explicitly anti-biblical stances based on their experiences?

WHAT IS MAN?: Adam, Alien or Ape? - Kindle edition by Edgar Andrews. Religion & Spirituality Kindle eBooks @

The Psalmist did, of course, offer his own answer three millennia ago. Man, he claimed, was created by God for a clearly defined purpose — to exercise dominion over planet earth and (by implication) to ultimately share something of the glory of the divine nature. The rest, as they say, is history, but it’s not a happy tale. As Mark Twain says in another essay; “I can’t help being disappointed with Adam and Eve”. Not surprisingly, then, a large proportion of humanity today are looking for alternative solutions, accepting the challenge of the Psalmist’s question without embracing the optimism of his answer.

Book Review: Science and the Mind of the Maker by Melissa Cain Travis

The fine-tuning of the universe was touched on in chapter 3, but chapter 5 takes it a step further by identifying the many ways in which the physical world is fine-tuned for scientific discovery. Fire is necessary for metallurgy, which is necessary for science. The earth’s atmosphere is not only optimal for respiration and radiation protection, it is also optimal for clear skies, making stars visible on the surface of the earth. Solar eclipses are only possible with a moon that is just the right size and the right distance away from the earth, and it happens to be that human beings exist on this planet at precisely the time when this is the case. None of these phenomena had to be the case, yet each is required both for habitability of the earth and for scientific discovery.

Did Moses Author the Pentateuch?

Though modern skeptics challenge that Moses wrote the books (some even doubt he existed), there is plenty of evidence throughout the Bible, as well as external texts, to give us confidence that he did. Old Testament and New Testament references clearly and consistently testify to Mosaic authorship, authority, and influence.

Did the Apostle Paul Reject Philosophy?

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

Episode 082: Pros and Cons of Labels - Christian Research Institute

“A recent trend, which gained traction with a piece released by Planned Parenthood a handful of years ago (“Moving Beyond Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice Labels, You’re ‘Not in Her Shoes’”), is attempting to do just that. There is a growing desire that the terms pro-choice and pro-life be abolished because they do not adequately express feelings about abortion. Most people “just don’t want to be labeled,” proponents claim. They may very well be on to something, but they’re taking things too far…Simply put, labels come with pros and cons. Some labels are associated automatically with stereotypical meanings, which can be exacerbated further by any number of factors that influence individuals — culture, education, loyalties, circumstances, media. When labels are thrown out haphazardly, they oftentimes unfairly corral others into groups according to the audience’s perception… It may be that the call for abolishing the label pro-choice comes from the fact that many identify themselves as personally pro-life, while others label them pro-choice. These individuals play the moral relativism card by reducing moral truth to mere personal preference.

Should Amazon Stop Selling the Quran? Congressman Keith Ellison Says "Yes!"

Congressman Keith Ellison (a devout Muslim) recently sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, demanding that the company stop selling products that promote religious intolerance, violence, hatred, or racism. But since the Quran promotes religious intolerance, violence, etc., wouldn't this mean that Congressman Ellison is ordering Amazon to stop selling the Quran? David Wood discusses the issue. 29 The Beauty of Womanhood

Yet, the vision our culture offers is a sad consolation that exchanges the glory of feminine strength for a treadmill race to nowhere. It squanders the kind of influence that is found primarily in the soil of the home. The home — that center of all learning, the heart of nation-building, the dispenser of love and stability, the venue for gospel hospitality for single and married alike, in short, the footings of humanity. This home-based influence — because of Christ — can last for a thousand generations, yet our culture urges us to cast it aside for the pursuit of rewards a little less off in the distance and certainly ones that don’t require diapering.

What Happened Between the Old and the New Testaments?

Yet when you turn to the New Testament, which begins 400 years later, Israel looks drastically different. It’s no longer under the domain of Persia, but the Romans. Furthermore, it has a massive temple — something it didn’t have at the end of the Old Testament. A lot must have transpired during those four hundred years — often called the intertestimental period.

Neurosurgeon Michael Egnor asks, how can there NOT be free will?

“An explosion you think of as kind of a messy event. And this is the point about entropy. The explosion in which our universe began was not a messy event. And if you talk about how messy it could have been, this is what the Penrose calculation is all about essentially. It looks at the observed statistical entropy in our universe. The entropy per baryon. And he calculates that out and he arrives at a certain figure. And then he calculates using the Bekenstein-Hawking formula for Black-Hole entropy what the,,, (what sort of entropy could have been associated with,,, the singularity that would have constituted the beginning of the universe). So you’ve got the numerator, the observed entropy, and the denominator, how big it (the entropy) could have been. And that fraction turns out to be,, 1 over 10 to the 10 to the 123rd power. Let me just emphasize how big that denominator is so you can gain a real appreciation for how small that probability is. So there are 10^80th baryons in the universe. Protons and neutrons. No suppose we put a zero on every one of those. OK, how many zeros is that? That is 10^80th zeros.

33 You’ll Never Wish You Did Less

Robert Savage said, “The command has been to ʻgo,ʼ but we have stayed — in body, gifts, prayer, and influence. He has asked us to be witnesses unto the uttermost parts of the earth. But 99% of Christians have kept puttering around in the homeland.” May we not be added to them, but may we boldly risk for the sake of the nations. We can rest assured that no one will ever enter heaven saying, “I wish I had done less for the nations.”

The Difference Between Real Faith and Fanaticism Disguised as Faith

A warning is warranted for those who gravitate to these isolationist religious sects, and for those who embrace extreme so-called faith practices. Withholding necessary and needed medical intervention from children or anyone is indeed "unrighteous behavior" based on "faulty doctrine." It is not real faith, but self-righteousness and fanaticism disguised as faith. Jesus said to those religious people who thought they were in the faith "Depart from me... I was sick did not look after me" (Matt. 25:41-43). Real faith leads to choices that provide care to the sick and needy; fanaticism leads to choices that bring harm to others in the name of religious faith.

40 How Do I Cling to God — When Life Feels Easy?

I think in essence, that’s what we’re all prone to do. We do this when we enter into seasons where things seem to be abounding, where there seems to be an abundance. We’re not crying a lot. We’re not depressed. There’s a lot a joy. Everybody’s good. Your spouse isn’t getting on your nerves. Your kids are being real obedient. Your paycheck is coming in consistently.

There's a Difference Between Evidence and Proof | Cold Case Christianity

How can Metzger come to such a different conclusion than Ehrman? Was he looking at different evidence? No. Both men are examining the exact same set of facts, yet coming to two very different conclusions. How can this be? All of us, as fallen humans, are at war with the God who created us. All of us have an enmity toward God that must first be removed if we are ever going to see the evidence clearly. Only God can do such a thing. So, while I am always delighted to examine the evidence with someone, I recognize that I am only one of several means by which God can reveal Himself to those He has already called. I am prepared to make the case, but only God can turn the evidence into proof.

What You Need to Know About Overcoming Social Anxiety

I hear this one all the time. When there are “important” things to converse about (global warming, world peace, or the meaning of life and death), why would you want to waste your precious time talking to your cousin Fred about his recent insurance convention in Des Moines? Well, small talk is an important way people play and connect with each other. It is not about the transfer of information like in a student-teacher interaction, but it is a way of communicating to a person that you value them (at least to some degree) and, consequently, small talk serves to initiate, build or maintain social relationships. In that sense, the small stuff is the big stuff.

Al Mohler: The Revoice Conference - WORLD Radio Blog

Christians are to find our identity is in Christ, and not in any pattern of temptation. Paul makes this clear in 1 Corinthians 6:11, where the Apostle speaks to the church honestly about sin, and then says, “and such were some of you.” The key word there is were. Christians do experience temptation, and each Christian has his or her own pattern of temptation, but we are not to give in to temptation, nor are we to find our identity in any temptation to sin. Our identity is in Christ.
