A new season of The Briefing begins August 1. In this daily audio podcast, Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr. offers an analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview.

Watch Justin Timberlake, Steph Curry and Alfonso Ribeiro Do the Carlton

Fact: Watching Alfonso Ribeiro doing the “Carlton Dance,” made famous on Fresh Prince, never gets old. It NEVER gets old, and is the ultimate crowd-pleaser, even while out on a golf course. At the recent American Century Championship tournament in Lake Tahoe, NBA star Steph Curry, Justin Timberlake and Carlton and himself, Alfonso Ribeiro, hit the links together, and seemed to have a pretty good time. And, as this video shows, they did a lot of dancing. Somewhere, Tom Jones is smiling.

3 Abandoning Scripture, Abandoning Faith and Morals

And Oliveto wasn’t finished. In perhaps her most telling admission, she warned against having too high a view of Scripture.  “The text, the Bible, is not God,” she said, adding that any true “biblical theology” covers both “the benefits and the flaws” of Scripture. As an example of a “flaw,” Oliveto decried the Bible’s “theology of election and chosenness,” such as the Jews being God’s chosen people, which she blamed for everything from colonialism, to slavery, to the “destruction of native cultures and religions,” to racism, and to the oppression of homosexuals.

Did You Know? Jesus Features in Most Religions

You’ve probably heard the phrase: “All religions are basically the same”. This can’t logically be true. All religions say completely different things about the nature of truth, if there is a God, how to access God, what – if anything- is wrong with humanity, how to rectify what is wrong with humanity, what happens after you die, etc, etc.

Reasons To Believe : How a Christian Worldview Influenced America’s Founding Fathers

The Christian notion of equality says that people are equal because (1) God made humanity in His image; and (2) He loved us enough to have sacrificed His Son for each of us. Rather than being based on abilities, appearance (race, ethnicity, sex), achievements, or social position, a person’s worth is inherent. We are equal simply because God values us equally. Human worth is God dependent and God ordained; human assessment is irrelevant. The founding fathers recognized this view of humanity in the Declaration of Independence’s famous opening statements :

D.A. Dismisses All Bogus Charges Against David Daleiden for Exposing Planned Parenthood | LifeNews.com

“David Daleiden’s courage and fortitude to expose the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, should have been met with immediate investigation and prosecution of the baby parts profit-making scheme by the Harris County District Attorney. Yet, it was David instead of Planned Parenthood who took the heat for daring to show the nation what our tax dollars have been funding. Planned Parenthood needs to be held accountable for their horrendous business practices of betraying their clients and selling their babies piece-by-piece for profit. We need to get to the bottom of why rampant corruption occurred during the investigation in Harris County. The DA made a mockery of the office, colluded with an organization that should have had its employees arrested and charged for criminal conduct, and indicted a journalist who exposed Planned Parenthood.

Online Shaming Is Destroying Lives

For Ronson, the key is not only recognizing when the impulse to shame people becomes misplaced, but also embracing a community that engages ideas instead of attacking them. “The fact that we surround ourselves around people who feel the same way we do, that makes us more enraged when somebody transgressive comes along,” he says. “Maybe this is something that goes on in Christian communities as well. If you surround yourself with people who feel exactly the same way as you do, that’s kind of undemocratic. When somebody comes around that feels differently to the way you do, you’re more likely to tear them to pieces because you see them as so outlandish compared to the mutual approval machine of your Twitter followers or your church community.”

Christians Need to Recover the Lost Art of Patience

So how do we learn patience? Patience is about love and value. The more we love others, the easier it is to be patient with them. The more we value and respect someone, the longer it takes them to get on our nerves. What often makes us impatient is that the person we love the most, in many scenarios, is ourselves. The time we value most is our own. The dreams we care most about fulfilling are ours. Impatience comes because, especially as Christians, we care and think way too much about ourselves. A little humility, a little consideration and value for others would go a long way in building the foundation of our patience.

Questions to Ask Before We Gossip

When we learn new information about another person, we have several options. We can speak to that person about what we’ve learned, speak to other people about it, or keep it to ourselves and speak to God. Gossip is saying behind someone’s back what we should say to their face, or not at all. But life is complex. Sometimes we must seek prayer and wisdom from godly friends when struggling with difficult relationships with a child, spouse, neighbor, co-worker, or fellow church-member. It’s in these situations that we should be particularly careful that our counsel-seeking doesn’t simply become an excuse for gossip.

Is It Immoral to Believe in God? - Christian Research Institute

Ruse, however, moves beyond arguing from atrocities. What leads to moral issues is that there are “arguments going both ways” when it comes to the existence of God. The question of God’s existence is not as easily solved as basic mathematical questions, such as 1+1=2. Indeed it is not, and nor for that matter is any philosophical, moral, or political issue. Ruse’s own discipline of analytic philosophy is full of disputes about the nature of mathematical truth, what distinguishes science from pseudoscience, whether science gives us truth or simply empirically adequate models, the existence and origin of objective morality, and so on. None of these are solved as easily as basic mathematics. Surely Ruse, however, is not claiming that it is immoral to hold any philosophical beliefs. Is there something morally problematic, for example, about holding to a particular account of what distinguishes science from nonscience? Or is it morally problematic to hold moral beliefs, such as the belief that it is immoral to believe in God? What exactly, then, is the problem?

BREAKING: Texas dismisses felony charges against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt

“The dismissal of the bogus, politically motivated charges against CMP project lead David Daleiden and investigator Sandra Merritt is a resounding vindication of the First Amendment rights of all citizen journalists, and also a clear warning to any of Planned Parenthood's political cronies who would attack whistleblowers to protect Planned Parenthood from scrutiny,” said David Daleiden this morning. “Planned Parenthood tried to collude with public officials to manipulate the legal process to their own benefit, and they failed.”

A Religion of Peace? with Jay Smith

Islamic nations are firebombing, arresting, torturing, and murdering Christians by the hundreds of thousands, but almost no one is willing to acknowledge the causal link between Islam and terrorism. But Islamic scholar and Christian polemicist Jay Smith knows better than to buy into that trend. Smith debates Muslims regularly, has brought many to faith in Christ, and, in this insightful interview, exposes the unvarnished truth about real Islam, the Koran, and Muhammad himself.

Couldn’t God Have Used Evolution?

I am fairly at a loss to comprehend how anyone, for a moment, can doubt that Christian theology must stand or fall with the historical trustworthiness of the Jewish Scriptures. The very conception of the Messiah, or Christ, is inextricably interwoven with Jewish history; the identification of Jesus of Nazareth with that Messiah rests upon the interpretation of the passages of the Hebrew Scriptures which have no evidential value unless they possess the historical character assigned to them. If the covenant with Abraham was not made; if circumcision and sacrifices were not ordained by Jahveh; if the ‘ten words’ were not written by God’s hand on the stone tables; if Abraham is more or less a mythical hero, such as Theseus; the Story of the Deluge a fiction; that of the Fall a legend; and that of the Creation the dream of a seer; if all these definite and detailed narratives of apparently real events have no more value as history than have the stories of the regal period of Rome—what is to be said about the Messianic doctrine, which is so much less clearly enunciated: And

Constantine and the Church by W. Robert Godfrey | July 26, 2016

Emperor Constantine the Great has received much attention throughout the history of the church—and rightfully so. His conversion to Christianity and the sweeping changes it brought to the church and the empire instituted a new era in history, one that would change the church forever. Whether for good or for ill, the combination of church and state has created a lasting impact on the people of God, and this lesson explores the beginning of the transition and illuminates the motives and historical context behind this monumental shift in Western history.

And It Came To Pass - R.C. Sproul Jr.

I was not, as a kid, a particularly gifted athlete. I enjoyed sports, however, and so my hours were determined by the seasons: football, basketball, baseball. I realized early on that my gifts were limited, while my desire to compete was boundless. My solution- will. I determined to will myself to victory, to be the dog in the fight with the most fight in the dog. The Rocky movies resonated with me. I would take a punch, and come back for more.

29 When the Sky Really Is Falling

This is not new. Back in the ‘30s and ‘40s, German Christians had to take a clear stand or be absorbed or compromised by evil—and some, like Bonhoeffer, chose the cross. Look at our brothers and sisters in the Middle East. Now, I’m not ready to say we American Christians may soon have to apostasize or die, but I can’t help but think of the words of the late Cardinal George, who said he would die in his bed, his successor would die in prison, and his successor will die a martyr in the public square.

How the Canon of the Bible Was Formed

The canon of Scripture refers to a standard or rule used to determine which books belong in the biblical corpus. In this short lecture Dr. Licona provides answers to the questions we've all thought at some time or another: Did Constantine decide which books belong in the Bible? Why is it that Matthew, Mark, Luke & John's gospels make it but not Thomas's, Peter's, or Mary's? We apologize for a glitch that occurs shortly before the 9:00 mark in this lecture. website | http://risenjesus.com facebook | http://www.fb.me/michael.r.licona/ twitter | http://www.twitter.com/michaellicona

Why You Should Use Stats in Ministry

Research is often a needed tool pastors can use to change a church’s opinion. If a pastor says, “We should build a gym to help the community” the church might question the expense. But, if the pastor says, “Ten percent of the population within 3 miles of our church are under 17 years old, and most of them have nothing to do after school. If we built a gymnasium we could run multiple ministries to meet their needs and maybe open their hearts to the gospel.” Those statistics paint a different picture that help many understand why the cost might be worth it.

What King David Can Teach Us About Overcoming Political Anxiety

Fortunately, we Christians have an antidote, for the Bible has much to say about anxiety, fear, and worry. In fact, there is a political leader in Scripture from whom we can learn much about dealing with anxiety and fear: King David. But before we consider how to cope with these emotions let’s look at what we should know about them.

Why the Pro-Life Message of ‘Born This Way’ Is So Important

When the opportunity for the family to audition for Born This Way came along, Sandra says she felt a nudging from God, despite the risk that the producers could edit the show in such a way that Sean and the other cast members were mocked and set up as the butt of jokes. “I heard that little God voice in my head that said ‘Go for it,’” she recalls. “I knew that if they did it right, it could be a total game changer for people with Down syndrome. I’m so thankful that the producers held true to their vision.”

Christians to Science: Leave Our Bodies How God Made Them

“All of the Abrahamic faiths—Judaism, Christianity and Islam—share the belief that men and women have been created, to some extent, in God’s image,” wrote David Masci in an accompanying essay . “According to many theologians, the idea that human beings in certain ways mirror God make some, but not all, religious denominations within this broad set of connected traditions wary of using new technologies to enhance or change people, rather than heal or restore them.”

A Beginner’s Guide to ‘Free Will’

Glad submission to God’s authority, and to God’s superior value and beauty, is something we are not able to do. This is not because we are kept from doing what we prefer to do. It is because we prefer our own authority, and treasure our own value, above God’s. We cannot prefer God as supremely valuable while preferring ourselves supremely.

On the first day of the semester, or the first time I hear a student preach, I have no way of knowing if he has what it takes or is willing to do what he must to be the preacher he needs to be, but I can usually tell by the second sermon if he does, because that is when he has to act on what I told him after his first sermon.

By exposing the political bias of Dorsey and Twitter's other administrators, Milo Yiannapoulos has destroyed Twitter.
