REBOOT | Youth Apologetics

Once a year, REBOOT meets in the centre of London to explore questions such as ‘How can we know God exists?’, ‘Why does God allow suffering?’ and ‘Hasn’t science disproved God?’. REBOOT provides a place for young people from 12-18 years old, with or without any faith or church background, to raise their objections and investigate different perspectives. Through its annual conference, online resources, and speaking invitations, REBOOT aims to equip young people to understand and be able to answer some of these big questions for themselves. Our team from the Zacharias Trust and the OCCA [the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics] want you to have confidence in what you believe, and the chance to be honest about your doubts. Since its launch in 2013, REBOOT has welcomed over 1000 young people, and this year we are excited to see more of you than ever!

Contemporary Christian Music Dying? The Case for CCM Beyond Record Sales and Dwindling Christianity [RESPONSE]

Contemporary Christian Music, a.k.a. CCM, has been the backbone of believers looking to find music that feeds their soul and heart in order to be closer to God. But could it be, that this very driving force of Christians is dying out because of a nearly a 40 million in sales drop off? Well at least one article circulating on the Internet thinks so, and it has the Christian music industry in a bit of a stir on whether this claim is legitimate.

Grace to You

Let’s pray. Such a joy to be together, Lord, and to know the truth and to love the truth and to hear the truth, embrace the truth. Make us not only people who know it, love it, believe it, but proclaim it. Give us courage. Give us boldness. Protect us. Protect Your gospel, Your truth. We don’t want to say we’ve given up. You can do anything. You will build Your church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. You will call out Your people. You will preach Your gospel. You will draw Your own to yourself. Use us for that. Make us a light in the darkness. May we be known for our love and our truthfulness. May we be faithful to preach the gospel of loving grace and the threat of eternal judgment. And Lord Jesus, be glorified in your church, and Lord, be glorified in the world. Come quickly. Come quickly. Amen.

Refugees or Missionaries? Responding to Cultural Hostility and Persecution

But we don’t even need to focus on religious organizations. Many Christians in the workplace already walk on eggshells at their place of employment, lest anyone discover they believe what the Bible says about men and women and marriage and sexuality. They know that they could easily be fired if an activist co-worker or the outraged mob sets their sights on them. So we all have to ask ourselves: If that should happen—if I should lose my job because I refuse to bow the knee to the cultural idols of our day—what will be my demeanor? Will it throw me into despair or blame or bitterness at the injustice? Or, like the Christians in Acts 8, will I see it as an opportunity for even greater fruitfulness?

The Great Work Taking Place in Our World

That is the day for which we are laboring now as men in the church. In times past, the Israelites under Nehemiah offered themselves for rebuilding that great city Jerusalem to which Jesus would one day come as the Savior of the world. In a later time, spreading out from that same city, Paul and the other early Christians faced down the hostility of the Roman empire with the power of truth and love as they built the earliest Christian churches and safeguarded God’s deposit of saving truth. Now is the time for us. And like Nehemiah, Paul, and those who labored with them, we must fix our eyes on the day to which all our labor is directed, the day when we ourselves will be resurrected in glory and when God will fully manifest His splendor in His people. If we live for that day now, it will strengthen us to the work of building the church of Christ together, in His name and with His power, striving with all our might to safeguard the gospel, which gives the only hope of salvation to a world lost in sin.

Renewing Your Mind | Bound for Glory | July 24, 2015

Our Father in heaven told us all, that is, all that are His, to pray to Him as our Father in heaven. This is what defines us, as us. We are those who have God as our Father. Our lines of loyalty then are clearly drawn. My kin is not balding forty-somethings with children still at home. My kin are not those who can trace their lineage back to the British Isles. My kin are those who have been bought by the blood of the Lamb. They are my brothers and my sisters, even if they root for the wrong football team. My calling is to love them like family, for they are family. They, like me, have been born a second time, born into the family of God. We share a common Father, we share a common mother, the church, and we share a common brother, Jesus our Lord. This is now how our family is described, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy” (1 Peter 2: 9–10).

What We Mean When We Say, “God Created Everything From Nothing” | Cold Case Christianity

One of the key pieces of evidence in the universe is simply it’s origin. If our universe began to exist, what could have caused it’s beginning? How did everything (all space, time and matter) come into existence from nothing ? One way atheist physicists have navigated this dilemma has simply been to redefine the terms they have been using. What do we mean when we say “everything” or “nothing”? At first these two terms might seem rather self-explanatory, but it’s important for us to take the time to define the words. As I’ve already stated, by “everything” we mean all space, time and matter. That’s right, space is “something”; empty space is part of “everything” not part of “nothing”. For some of us, that’s an interesting concept that might be hard to grasp, but it’s an important distinction that must be understood. When we say “nothing”, we mean the complete absence of everything; the thorough non-existence of anything at all (including all space time and matter). These two terms, when defined in this way, are consistent with the principles of the Standard Cosmological Model, but demonstrate the dilemma.

Seven Subtle Symptoms of Pride

As seriously dangerous as pride is, it’s equally hard to spot. When it comes to diagnosing our hearts, those of us who have the disease of pride have a challenging time identifying our sickness. Pride infects our eyesight, causing us to view ourselves through a lens that colors and distorts reality. Pride will paint even our ugliness in sin as beautiful and commendable.

Obama DOJ To Investigate Group That Busted Planned Parenthood

It’s interesting that Lynch decided so early to make a statement about the group. There are certainly more videos to come, and if Planned Parenthood’s panicked press releases are any indication, the footage may be far more damaging than anything that’s been revealed thus far. However, given the abject politicization of multiple agencies under Obama’s command — including the Internal Revenue Service, which targeted conservative non-profits, and the DOJ, which has been hesitant to investigate Obama allies — it seems unlikely that Lynch and those who report to her will ever crack down on Abortion, Inc.

Don Carson on the Need for Word-Filled Women’s Ministry

“Word-Filled Women’s Ministry is written for the bustling daughters of Christ, who need God’s Word to train and sustain them in their various labors. It acknowledges the vast diversity of women’s ministries in different churches while calling them to a unified commitment to God’s Word. Women grow best as they learn from Scripture, first as it is preached to the gathered church and then as it is explored and explained in the company of other godly women. This book is an incentive to the latter, casting a vision for what can and ought to happen when the Bible takes its rightful place at the center of women’s ministry.”  — Megan Hill , pastor’s wife; author,  Praying Together ; blogger, Sunday Women

Michael Brown - Buy a Baby's Liver For Just $24K!

Aside from the obvious question of how many lives have been saved through the use of baby livers (as opposed to livers donated from those who died outside the womb), even that question begs a larger question, namely: How does the allegedly humanitarian use of a barbarically obtained item justify (or, even minimize) the barbarous practice? And since Planned Parenthood makes more money the more babies it aborts, and since StemExpress is surely a for-profit company, doesn’t that mean that the more abortions, the more profits for all?

How We Talk About Life — and Death

Gushee rightly points to the ambiguous sexual ethics of a society that values convenience over responsibility and restraint, but we would also add that we are all responsible for the waning import we place on human life. We are both Christians, but you don’t have to be a Christian to see inherent value housed within each being. We are both parents, but you don’t need to have a child to see the miracle that unfolds throughout the human lifespan from gestation through death. We’ve both sat hand-in-hand with women after making seemingly impossible decisions, but you don’t have to be best friends with someone who’s been through the experience to treat them with respect and dignity.

The Price of Fetal Parts

Abortion critics have long warned that the problem is not only the obvious — what abortion does to the fetus — but also what it does to us. It’s the same kind of desensitization that has occurred in the Netherlands with another mass exercise in life termination: assisted suicide. It began as a way to prevent the suffering of the terminally ill. It has now become so widespread and wanton that one-fifth of all Dutch assisted-suicide patients are euthanized without their explicit consent.

How to Get Your Kids to Ask More Questions About Their Faith

When we first started doing this, we went around in a circle, having each of our kids ask a question on their turn. The good side of doing it that way is that it encourages everyone to be thinking. The bad side is (1) that it can kill the momentum of the night if one kid is not feeling particularly thoughtful (everyone will be sitting around waiting for them to come up with something), and (2) that if your kids are competitive (as mine are), they’ll spend more time thinking up a good question for their impending turn than listening to the current discussion. We found the whole night flows better when you simply let everyone throw out questions as they have them. Just make sure that if someone didn’t ask something on their own, you give them the chance to.

Most people want to be closer to God and experience more fulfilling relationships. Jesus gave us the keys to accomplish this when he taught us that of all God's commands only two are most important: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbors as yoursef. This sounds so easy, but we struggle in this area. That's why Pastor Rick developed the 40 Days of Love Study Kit. This unigue tool will equip you to fulfill the two greatest commandments. And, as you learn to live a love powered life you will grow closer to God and others. You'll become more like Jesus!

WORLD | A lesson in pro-life apologetics | Warren Cole Smith | July 23, 2015

Let’s talk about how you answer some of the tough questions. What’s your position on rape, incest, or the life of the mother? Two types of people are going to bring up rape: The inquirer and the crusader. The inquirer wants an honest answer. She has heard a case for the pro-life view. She’s persuaded by it, but she’s just having trouble worrying about what would happen to a friend of hers that was raped, and emotionally, she just is struggling with this idea of saying you’ve got to continue the pregnancy. The crusader, on the other hand, does not want an honest answer. He just wants to make you look bad. How can you as a pro-lifer who claim to be compassionate and caring about a woman force her to carry a child that will always remind her of what she went through.

Where Does the Bible Say Extra-Marital Sex is Wrong?

Throughout the Old Testament, it’s assumed that God designed sex for marriage. Deuteronomy condemns a soon to be wife who has had sex before marriage (Deuteronomy 22:13-19), and the love poetry contained in the Song of Songs delights in the joys of sex but reserves it for a husband and wife. Extra-marital sex is never looked upon with divine approval in the Old Testament, no matter how bright the love-flame burns.

The 8 Most Annoying Habits of Modern Dating

It’s a wedding I’m attending and I don’t know if you like attending weddings or would want to attend one with me, but if you want to come to this one with me as my date, I would like that. If not, it’s no problem. We may break up before then and hate each other. Did I say break up? I meant to say, ‘We may not still be casual like we are now.’ We may be more casual? Less casual? The amount of casualness that we are currently experiencing may be experienced to a different degree in the future and we could prepare for that. This was a really bad idea to leave on your voicemail, wasn’t it?”

What Companies Said About Their Planned Parenthood Donations

To set the record straight, the March of Dimes does not have a relationship with Planned Parenthood. Additionally, the March of Dimes does not promote or fund abortion services, nor may foundation funds be used for directive counseling regarding abortion. Violation of this policy would be grounds for immediate cancellation of a grant or cooperative agreement. Since 2007, five local March of Dimes chapters have given local grants to Planned Parenthood exclusively for prenatal education. In these communities, these are the only such services available to improve the health of low-income women and reduce the risks of birth defects, low birthweight, and prematurity in their babies.

WORLD | Midday Roundup: Corporations shun Planned Parenthood | Lynde Langdon | July 24, 2015

Keeping their distance. Three major companies have asked Planned Parenthood to remove their names as corporate sponsors, The Daily Signal reported. Planned Parenthood had listed Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co., and Xerox among 41 companies that donated to the organization. After The Daily Signal republished the list, representatives of the companies said they did not donate to Planned Parenthood either directly or by matching employee contributions. The information has since been removed from the site. The companies are distancing themselves from the organization after two undercover videos showed Planned Parenthood executives talking about the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

Taqiyya, Imam Madhi, and the Iran deal

Following news of the nuclear deal with the United States, Iranians celebrated in the streets over what they viewed as a national victory. The victory’s significance was especially heightened as it took place during the most holy Muslim month of Ramadan. The celebration was marked by the relief they felt from three decades of isolation due to U.S. sanctions which began in 1987, followed by those of the U.N. and European Union which started in 2006. This deal would strengthen Iran’s economy and surely support them as a Shiite power in their long-known combat with their surrounding Sunni counterparts.

NASA Discovered Another Planet Similar to Earth

So, things just got weird. NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has found a planet that NASA says is like “Earth’s bigger, older cousin.” Located 1,400 light-years away in the Cygnus constellation, the planet—dubbed “Kepler-425b”—is a similar size to Earth and is in the zone of the star it orbits that would allow it to have water on its surface. Scientists have yet to confirm if the planet does in fact have water or air, but said that it probably has an atmosphere of some kind and it receives similar amounts of of light and energy from its star as Earth does from the sun. The planet was discovered as part of the the Kepler mission, which aims to find habitable planets in the Milky Way. There’s no telling yet if the planet could truly sustain life, but in a statement, Kepler researcher Jon Jenkins said there has been “opportunity for life to arise, should all the necessary ingredients and conditions for life exist on this planet.”

The Equality Act: Bad Policy that Poses Great Harms

We must always remember the teaching function of the law. Law communicates standards of decency, conduct, and custom. Over time, if current ideology concerning sexual orientation and gender identity becomes further ingrained, the Equality Act would work to undermine the view that Christian or traditional sexual ethics are reasonable and can be sincerely held by people of good will. The Equality Act teaches a view of human embodiment that is contrary to orthodox Christianity. Christianity embraces the body and soul as an integrated whole; each person is a unique creation who was created male or female. Male and female are not arbitrary, socially imposed constructs. They are rooted in our biology. In contrast, the worldview behind the Equality Act assumes an “expressive individualism” where our bodies become instruments of the will, capable of being re-created according to preference and desire.

10 Shocking Stats about America’s Gun Violence

It isn't necessarily an argument that guns increase violence, but that guns make serious harm easier to inflict. It's quick, with little effort to shoot someone, and can be done from a distance. Though the violence may be just the same, the number of deaths is probably lower. Though comparing the total number of homicides in the UK and US is quite a difference. There isn't a figure for that, so I took the figure for gun homicides and worked it out as a percentage of total homicides. Which gives a rough figure of 15.7 per 100,000 for the US and 0.9090909 for the UK if my maths is correct - about 20 times higher in the US.

Why Privatizing Marriage is a Terrible Idea | Acton PowerBlog

At the most basic level, even if we can get government out of the business of issuing marriage licenses, it still has to register these partnerships (and/or authorize the entities that perform them) before these unions can have any legal validity, just as it registers property and issues titles and deeds. Therefore, government would need to set rules and regulations as to what counts as a legitimate marriage “deed.” It won’t—and can’t—simply accept any marriage performed in any church—or any domestic partnership written by anyone. Suppose that Osho, the Rolls Royce guru who encouraged free sex before getting chased out of Oregon, performed a group wedding uniting 19 people. Would that be acceptable? How about a church wedding—or a civil union—between a consenting mother and her adult son? And so on—there are innumerable outlandish examples that make it plain that government would have to at least set the outside parameters of marriage, even if it wasn’t directly sanctioning them.
