Did God Invent Evil?
For more resources visit: http://reasonablefaith.org On October 25, 2011 at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, Richard Dawkins was invited by the Oxford student Christian Union to defend his book The God Delusion in public debate with William Lane Craig. The invitation remained open until the last minute. However, Dawkins refused the challenge and his chair remained empty. Craig then gave a lecture to a capacity audience on the weaknesses of the central arguments of the book and responded to a panel of academics. The event, which was chaired by atheist Prof. Peter Millican, was part of The Reasonable Faith Tour 2011 sponsored by UCCF, Damaris & Premier Christian Radio. In this short clip, Dr Craig responds to a question from the problem of evil on whether God invented evil. 4 Types of Parental Involvement in Student Ministry
Absent parents come in two forms: by their choice or by ours. Parents choose to be absent in the spiritual lives of their teens for a slew of reasons. They may not be Christians themselves. They may be physically absent due to divorce or separation. They may be spiritually weak or immature. Or they may be handing the baton for this leg of the race to you, the youth pastor. If that’s the case, heed the advice of Steve Wright and Chris Graves: it’s not yours to take. As they write in their book reThink: Decide for Yourself—Is Student Ministry Working? :

Gay Sex & the Second Coming of Christ
I am proud of my seminary and my church. Healthy sex is important. Humor is life saving. Healthy sex with humor?? That’s the kind of stuff that heals our broken and hurting world. We are the church. Each and every one of us. We need healthy sexuality, and we need humor. We need to be a church that supports both, and even a church that holds the two simultaneously. Shame kills. Honesty heals. Honest, healthy wholeness is a blessing. Honest, healthy humor is a blessing. I, too, am part of the church. I, too, am part of Christ’s body. We are healthy, and we are whole. And yes. We have humor.
Michael Brown - A Huffington Post Writer Takes My Challenge and Fails Badly
Peron writes that, “[Brown] claims, and I suggest he’s lying, ‘I have not yet received a single cogent answer.’ My guess is he is guilty of typical fundamentalist bias confirmation. Any answer he gets is dismissed in order to continue to say he's never had an answer. He has gone into the debate with his mind closed to all opposing arguments, and since he is the sole judge of what comprises a ‘cogent answer,’ he can never be proven wrong.”

Your experience sounds depressing. I wanted to comment to let you know that, despite those who may think the older generations are out of touch, there just may be some younger women among them who actually look up to the older generation of women.
Before we moved overseas, we attended a rather large congregation of 300-500 people. I did see somewhat of a tendency to use man-made marketing ideas to bring in more people and I felt a little dispirited about that and about other things that I saw. They were in the process of remodeling their church building, which cost in the millions, and so there was an effort to bring in X amount of additional families to help meet the budget. We thought the preaching was sound, which was the most important thing to us at the time.
Malestrom: Manhood Swept into the Currents of a Changing World
Follow Jesus— this is where James and I not only have a common enemy in patriarchy, but also a common remedy. In fact, I want to go a step further in explaining more of what following Jesus means. I think a helpful summary of Jesus’s definition of manhood is to “gladly assume sacrificial responsibility.” This sticky phrase captures precisely what Jesus did. He answered God’s call to serve others at enormous cost to himself. Though the calling was hard, he didn’t grumble (Heb. 12:1). Rather than throw around his weight, he made himself nothing (Phil. 2:7). Instead of everyone bowing before his dominion, he put on the apron and washed the dirtiest of feet (John 13:5). When the disciples had been so slow to learn, and would have failed every performance review, Jesus called them his beloved (John 15:13–15). Jesus shows us what manhood is, not by eradicating the role of leadership, but by defining leadership as servanthood.
How Could It Be Fair to Kill Canaanite Children?
Third, all Christians agree that this life isn’t all there is, and there is Scriptural reason to believe that Canaanite children were transferred to a better place—Heaven. Although Christians differ about whether all children go to heaven, many Christians, including many apologists such as Norman Geisler, William Lane Craig, and Greg Koukl, have argued that all who die before the age of accountability (see Deut. 1:39) will be saved. 2 They base this on verses such as Luke 18:16–17, where Jesus said, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all” (Luke 18:16–17 NASB). As theologian Millard Erickson asks, “Could it be that Jesus was using as the object lesson in his plea for a certain quality, individuals who did not actually embody that quality? That would seem strange indeed. Thus, if Jesus was affirming that those who would enter into the kingdom must be like these children, he seems to be asserting, as a premise in his argument, that these children were in the kingdom.
Lessons from Time and Creation | Reasonable Faith
A third lesson that emerges from your exchange is a reminder how complex the issues really are. For example, your friend assumes that “ there was no time prior to the big bang .” Doubtless he makes that assumption because he is equating time with physical time, the time featured in theories of physics. But a beginning of physical time does not entail a beginning of time itself. Imagine God existing alone without the universe. Would such a state be timeless? Not if God experiences a succession of states of consciousness! For a series of mental events alone is sufficient for time to exist, wholly in the absence of the physical world. God could thus exist temporally prior to creation in a sort of metaphysical time and then create physical time at the big bang. If your friend assumes that physicalism is true, that all that exists is spacetime and its contents, then he is begging the question in favor of atheism and his argument is worthless.
Renewing Your Mind | Parmenides, Heraclitus, and Zeno | July 13, 2015
At this point, the question is raised, “Well, does logic really count in our attempt to understand reality?” Again, if we’re going to assume coherency and cosmos, logic has to count not just for something but for everything. Thomas Aquinas responded to the Aristotelianism of the medieval Muslim philosophers by replacing double truths with the concept of mixed articles, distinguishing nature and grace (not dividing them, as many of his critics allege). Aquinas said that there are certain truths that can be known through special revelation that are not discerned from investigation of the natural world, while at the same time there are certain truths learned from the study of nature that are not found, for example, in the Bible. One does not find the circulatory system of the human body clearly set forth in Scripture. What Aquinas was saying was that there are certain truths that are mixed articles, truths that can be known either from the Bible or by a study of nature. Among those mixed articles, he included the knowledge of the existence of a Creator.
Truthbomb Apologetics: Michael Sherrard on Anti-Intellectualism in the Church
"The pursuit of the knowledge of God is replaced in many with a pursuit of something that merely works. And by works, often what is pursued is a version of Christianity that brings forth the American dream rather than the Kingdom of God. This prosperity and selfish attitude has caused a slumber, a slumber in the proverbial classroom, and the church is now awakening to an exam for which it is not prepared…There was a time in American history where the pastor and the politician were on a level playing field. There was a time when clergy were thought to have answers. And it was not just because people didn’t know any better back then. It was because many men and women of faith were intellectuals. They knew their Bible and their history. They could speak about theology and chemistry. Now many believers are ill equipped to speak about anything that does not have a mascot in a meaningful way. And in that regard, society should place us at the kids table. If we don’t have anything meaningful to say, we ought not say anything at all."

Argentinian Evangelist Luis Palau Draws Tens of Thousands to NYC's Central Park
NEW YORK — Thousands of people flocked to New York City's iconic Central Park on Saturday, to sway to the sweet sounds of Matt Redman and Mandisa and to have their hearts pricked by the preaching of Argentinian evangelist Luis Palau.
My vision of God is dependent upon the condition of my character. My character determines whether or not truth can even be revealed to me. Before I can say, “I saw the Lord,” there must be something in my character that conforms to the likeness of God. Until I am born again and really begin to see the kingdom of God, I only see from the perspective of my own biases. What I need is God’s surgical procedure— His use of external circumstances to bring about internal purification.

A Requiem for the Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts were doomed the moment the national leadership decided to preserve the organization at the cost of the values and ideals that gave it birth. Speaking to a national meeting of Boy Scouts of America leaders, President Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, called for the B.S.A. to abandon its policy of allowing the participation of openly gay scouts, but not the involvement of openly-gay adults.
5 Reasons Why the Gospel of Jesus' Wife Is a Fake
The manuscript came to our attention on September 18, 2012, when King made the announcement. There was no hint of suspicion in her own assessment; indeed, two colleagues had encouraged her to consider it genuine. She claimed that it was probably a 4th-century manuscript, but that this Coptic translation went back to a Greek original from the 2nd century AD. This is the period when many other apocryphal writings were written in Greek.

Identity In Spirituality
When Joe put his check in the offering plate on Sunday, he scanned the sanctuary wondering who was getting a "free ride." He loved to show people the photo albums of the many short-term missions trips he had been on, and he didn't understand why some people were never willing to give up one week to serve God. The once tender, grateful Joe had given way to a hard and self-assured Christian man.

7 Bible Verses Reminding Us That God Has Given Us a Purpose In Life
The Lord and His purposes are perfect, and we must realize that we are not. We sometimes fill our heads with doubt during our busy lives, and it keeps us from living out the purposes that He has established for us. The Bible insures us that the Lord has created us and given us all a purpose.
Tales from Scott Walker’s graveyard
The 47-year-old Republican often points to the fact that he’s been on the ballot just about every two years since 1990 — including three victorious races for governor — as proof that he’s battle-tested and prepared to grind out yet another long campaign. He’ll launch his presidential candidacy as the front-runner in Iowa, which holds the first contest of the 2016 GOP primary season in February. He’s led the pack there since delivering a well-received speech at a January GOP gathering. Since then, though, he’s muddled through some tougher months, stumbling during his early forays into foreign policy and maintaining a lower profile than other top competitors, like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio.
5 Stupid Things The Church Needs to Stop Doing to Make Progress - Carey Nieuwhof
Congratulations, you have completely bought what they want you to do. Don’t say anything and just think we live in awesome town. People are trying to wake the zombies up and get people out of the Matrix because things are about to change pretty dramatically in the world. And most people will be completely caught off guard. I agree, don’t be weird about it. But truth is what sets the captive free. As a pastor I can tell you multitudes of people that were convicted by a post a bold Christian or man like Franklin Graham put up-so they came to church and wanted me to tell them more. Again, yes, don’t be weird, but my goodness don’t be silent either! We need more people to be out there fulfilling the Great Commisiion and the web and real world are both in major need of truth! Don’t be silent!

Mardi Gras Miracle ? That was amazing. 1992 against Duke ? GET BEHIND ME SATAN!
Two Christian Colleges Extend Employment Benefits to Same-Sex Spouses
"Spouses are eligible for benefits, so long as their marriage is legally recognized by the State of Michigan. This policy remains in place, meaning that a same-sex spouse of a Hope employee will now be eligible for benefits," Knapp wrote in his email, which was shared with The Christian Post. "This is a continuation of Hope's longstanding commitment to our employees' health and well-being, and a reminder that Hope is best served by recruiting and retaining people based on their ability to contribute to the life of the college and its Christian mission."
The Rise of Women and the Manhood Crisis
Patriarchal thinking locks men and women into a zero-sum game where manhood will only survive intact if women hold back. The Bible dismantles this thinking. In Scripture, the rise of women happens with remarkable regularity. The fact that these risings occur within a full-fledged patriarchal culture makes them all the more significant. Surprisingly, the men in their stories aren’t wringing their hands or finding it harder to “be a man.” They are cheering women on—actually benefiting from and depending on their rise.

Your local fellowship is the place God designed for you to discover, develop, and use your gifts. You may also have a wider ministry, but that is in addition to your service in a local church. Jesus has not promised to build your ministry; he has promised to build his Church.
This PCA congregation has committed the great sin of departing from biblical truth out of cultural pressure. I agree that this sort of compromise is just the sort of thing warned against in the letter to the seven churches. But while an appeal to "two kingdoms theology" might be used to justify such talk, he should know better than to buy into their desperate reasoning. Ignoring that they are bound by the law of Christ, they have done violence to Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians and are saying that "to the gay-rights activist, I became a gay-rights activist." But the reason they have buckled is because they want to world to love them, not because a particular eschatological viewpoint places its adherents at a moral disadvantage. Many theologians in history who held to a different eschatology than the author of this article have fought valiantly on ethical issues. Trueman's only crime is that he holds to a different eschatological position than the author. In order to steer people away from a theological system which is well within the pale of orthodoxy, McDurmon is laying at his feet the blame for this church's error.
Bible study: why would a loving God make a terrible place like Hell?
Instead, what you find non-Christians doing is hoping in speculations to justify their flight from the demands of the God who is there. We want to be free to make ourselves happy, and that means that we have to keep the real God who is there and who is not silent at arms length. That’s what non-Christians do – they use their time on Earth to push God away so they can focus on themselves and their own happiness. In fact, even Christians do it, which is why we rely on Jesus as a sacrifice for our sin. We could come near to God and work on the things that he would like us to work on without some way to get past our own rebellion. For those who grasp the sacrifice of Jesus as an atonement for our rebellion, cooperation with God becomes possible.
What are our options in post-Obergefell America?
Christian colleges couldn’t get around employment law by refusing federal funds. The only way to get around employment law is to declare all employees “ministers” (the law won’t really let you do that though) or to be basically “just” a church, meaning that you can’t accept students from outside the faith & that you can’t employ ppl from outside of the faith. If you want to have the protection of a church, you have to be a church (serving only members of the faith), if you want to be more than a church then you have to abide by the laws that other non-churches follow. In general its a pretty reasonable compromise b/cs it disallows hypocrisy. If Notre Dame wanted to say that it couldn’t hire gay ppl it would be pretty hypocritical since it already has Muslim & Jewish professors as faculty. A Code of Conduct wouldn’t really come into it.

Boy Scout leaders vote to end ban on adult homosexuals
“Any resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America regarding leadership in the Scouting must continue to affirm that right,” said the LDS Church, which has previously stressed that Scouting “exists to serve and benefit youth, rather than Scout leaders,” and that a “single standard of moral purity” is expected for youth as well as emphasis “for Scouts to honor their duty to God.”
We Don’t Know How to Blush
If there is one thing we can be certain of when we read the news today it is that we should not be surprised. The staggering rate of the moral revolution has conditioned us this way. Each day’s headlines bring with it a sense of moral ascent (or descent, depending upon your perspective). And here I am not simply talking about so-called same-sex marriage and the erosion of religious liberty. Like dropping a line in the water, you often catch more than just a fish. We are pulling a lot into the boat that shapes our experience.

UNESCO Designates Jesus’ Baptism Site in Jordan as World Heritage Site
Jesus' baptism happened in the Jordan River (Matthew 3:13), but exactly where in the river is a long-running debate. Today, however, UNESCO designated an area on the east bank of the Jordan as a World Heritage site, saying it “is believed to be” the actual location of Jesus' baptism. There are tourist sites on both the east bank (located in Jordan) and the west (located in the Israeli-occupied, Palestinian-claimed west bank). Expectedly, the decision is popular in Jordan, but a Palestinian official said the west bank site should have been included. Experts say there is no archaeological evidence that the east bank was the true location, but many churches accept it as the authentic location. And UNESCO apparently agrees, too.

What we emphasize over and over again in this program is that, while Jesus changes everything–including politics, we need to understand that we are living in an age when politics invade all sorts of worlds where it does not belong–and we’re not going to get better. We are not going to solve these problems politically. The issue here is not about having an argument as to whether or not sex change operations are good things. The issue isn’t about having an argument as to whether or not sex changes being state subsidized is a good thing. The issue is how in the world have we gotten to the place where we have to have political arguments over these kind of issues? How did this even become a political issue?

Meanwhile, 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys Are Making a Western Movie
Not to be outdone by the likes of Zack Snyder at Comic-con, former members of ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys announced that they’re making a sure-fire blockbuster movie, too. And this future cash-cow has something to do with cowboys and zombies. Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is writing, directing and starring in Dead Seven , which Mashable describes as a “Western zombie movie.” Joining Carter are Backstreeter A.J. McLean and 'N Sync's Joey Fatone. Unsurprisingly, Carter is working with with the team behind Sharknado to execute his vision—so, yeah. Apparently, Carter and Fatone are the good guys, and McLean will play some kind of villain's apprentice. No word yet on how the zombies show up, but we can only hope that's where Justin Timberlake fits in to this whole equation. Oh, and of course, the film will air on SyFy Network.
Doubt Can Be a Good Thing
During that time, I connected with the passage out of Mark 9 where a father brings his son to Jesus for healing and Jesus says “I can help you if you believe.” The father responds “I believe, help my unbelief.” That phrase has stuck with me ever since, so much that I have it tattooed on my arm now. Because that, to me, is a microcosm of what it means to be a Christian. On one hand, you cling to belief, and on the other hand, you confess all the areas you need help with, all the things you’re weak in and the openness to not being sure of things.
