John MacArthur on How to Respond to a Homosexual Child

send to a friend #1  Posted by Priscilla  |  Tuesday, June 03, 2014at 3:20 PM For the sake of privacy, this commenter’s last name has been removed. I too have this issue with my 22 year old daughter. She claims to be a Christian, and she says she understands that what she is doing is a sin. I have no however, isolated myself from her because she is my child and in isolating her, I will also be isolating myself from my grand daughter. This post is just God telling me what I need to do. I guess my next step is to have my husband and I sit down and talk to her again. Then I guess, my pastor and his wife and my husband and myself will talk to her next if she does not repent. I am asking for you all to pray with and for me and my family as we take a stand. Although it may be a difficult stand as it involves my only daughter and grand child, but it is a stand we have to make. Reply You have 3000 characters remaining for your comment. Finding Heaven Through the Haze

But there are many wonderful things that happen by prayer, and another aspect is the effect prayer has on us personally. There is the content of our prayers and the work of God through them, and then there is the sheer testimony to our souls that we pray . It’s the witness to our person that, in the moment of prayer, we comprehend the paralysis of self-sufficiency. We intentionally look away from ourselves, empty as we are, to God, the one who has no needs. “Prayer is,” John Piper writes,

4 All You Need to Help People Rethink Abortion Is Clarity on These Three Questions - Stand to Reason Blog

I want to talk today about how we bring moral clarity on an issue like abortion when we’re in a culture that thinks truth can’t be known on it. And I want to focus our attention on three questions in particular. And my contention is that if you have clarity on these three questions, you will be equipped to engage on this issue.

Baker Forced to Make Gay Wedding Cakes Forced to Undergo Sensitivity Training After Losing Lawsuit

A family owned bakery has been ordered to make wedding cakes for gay couples and guarantee that its staff be given comprehensive training on Colorado's anti-discrimination laws after the state's Civil Rights Commission determined  the Christian baker violated the law by refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

Kirsten Powers endorses Matthew Vines’s book?

It’s precisely because she has so far to grow and is such a new Christian that she needs to stop speaking out on areas where her thoughts aren’t fully formed. When she thinks out loud like this, invariably what comes out is incredibly waffly on the truth and merely adds fuel to the fire for other confused millenials like her. She needs to realize that young people are looking to her to be a leader, and she needs to realize that she is not at a stage where she can assume leadership on these issues. And I say that as a millenial. I stand by my description of her as “shallow,” because as we saw in her piece with Merritt, any time she attempts analogy or argumentation, her examples are irrelevant and/or misguided. For example, she compared baking a cake for a wedding with giving cake to a murderer in jail on his birthday, seemingly missing the fact that it’s not celebrating the murderer’s sin to celebrate his birthday! Especially if you’re ministering to a REPENTANT murderer! The true equivalent would be giving the murderer a cake on the anniversary of his crime, complete with plastic figurines of him doing the deed with his weapon of choice.

Greatest achievement? Taking away everyone’s privacy is a great achievement? What is the purpose and who does it help. Why would a woman or a man want to go into a bathroom with the opposite sex? Did demons have sexual relations with women in Genesis 6:4? Genesis 6:4 is one of the most controversial passages in the Bible. Michelle Malkin - Exclusive: The Story You Haven't Yet Heard About Bowe Bergdahl's Desertion

After news broke this weekend of President Obama's trade of five high-level Taliban commanders at Gitmo for Bergdahl's "freedom," I heard from another soldier who served on the search team. "Many of my brothers died because of Bergdahl's actions, and this has been a very hard day for all Geronimos," he told me after documenting his proof of service. Other journalists ignored his attempts to get the truth out. My source still holds a highly sensitive position, so you won't see him all over the cable news shows. But he wants all of you to know the hell he and his comrades have been reliving:

The Gospel Coalition - Communicating the Beauty of God as a Graphic Designer

As a Christian, I know that people need to hear the Word preached. As a designer, I know that good design can remove obstacles that might distract someone from hearing. Working at a church allows me to produce materials that might be attractive to an unbeliever from the community. It provides church members with event flyers they can be proud to share with neighbors. It means that visitors don’t get lost in a poorly designed information sheet, but instead can quickly understand what ministries and services the church provides. Our church represents our God, and I want to do everything possible to represent him as the beautiful, intelligent, and creative one that he is.

What We Get Wrong About Evangelism

Heaven and hell are not primary to the work of salvation. Unfortunately, we have allowed some remnants of imagery from the Renaissance/Reformation to redefine the work of salvation. Salvation is far more about returning to our source of life, our union with God. Sin is largely misunderstood as well, as we get distracted by the sinful acts, but lose the state of being separated/disconnected that is the engine for the sinful acts. Jesus modeled the life connected, in union with God. He was a living picture of salvation, and his sacrifice was far more the product of our inability to cope and accept that there is another way. We wanted a system that endorsed our power, our role in this earth, and he gave us stories of vines, lost sheep, seeds, and prodigal fathers. He lived fully secure in the midst of those still committing sinful acts. His condemnation of the religious was not about their sinful acts, but rather the alternate way they were proposing humanity would reconnect with God.

12
Grace to You

God expects and commands His people to be generous. But He also expects and commands that we not only be thankful for the blessings He gives but also derive pleasure from them—including the material blessings. The Lord “richly supplies us with all things to enjoy” (1 Tim. 6:17). This verse is specifically directed to “those who are rich in this present world,” yet it does not command them to divest themselves of their wealth. Rather, it warns them not to be conceited about it or to trust in it. It’s how we use our possessions for kingdom purposes that counts.

N.T. Wright on the Bible and why he won't call himself an inerrantist - On Faith & Culture

His comments about the scripture reading our culture is a great correction on a flawed trend which see’s the Bible as an ancient book that is no longer relevant in a modern world. For the Christian who buys this logic, then the authority of scripture is compromised. If scripture is God’s timeless word to us, then it rightfully becomes the lenses through which any and all cultures are to be viewed through. This is not to discount valuable cultural traditions, but it brings the right discerning perspective on cultural ethics, practices and philosophies. This is a challenge for the church in a modern world, but as NT Wright mentions, the church must better discern and correct how the culture and our history has detrimentally influenced our biblical understandings. In a fallen world there must be something that stands outside that condition which informs what people do, believe and act on. For the Christian that is the scripture.

First It Was the Genome, Now the Proteome: Another Information-Rich Library

"More complex than previously thought" -- how often have we heard that phrase in news stories about the human genome? We heard it again when the ENCODE project found unexpected complexity in the human transcriptome (the library of DNA that is transcribed). Now, the phrase is being used regarding the human proteome, the set of all human proteins encoded by transcribed DNA. From Johns Hopkins University :

The Gospel Coalition - Where Is the Weeping in Your Sermon Notes?

The other fact that should provoke our emotion is that souls will be lost forever, something God himself does not take delight in (Ez. 18:23). What an emotional burden to enter a pulpit with! There is no place in your sermon notes where you can write, “Cry here.” You can’t force tears. (And if you can, then you’re in the wrong business. Get an agent.) But if Paul admonished everyone with tears, shouldn’t we at least admonish a few with tears? People are bound for hell. Does that smack of emotionalism? Luke tells us in Acts that Paul served “the Lord with all humility and with tears.” And he never added, “But he was very emotional, you know.”

What Makes God Proud

The Gospel Coalition - Here Is Our God—Why a Book?

The third reason to compile and share these talks is to offer encouragement through the context of the biblical teaching. How crucial for the church to be raising up strong women of the Word—women who know it, love it, declare it, and live it. What that means, of course, is that we want to be raising up women who shine forth Jesus, the one who shines from the Bible’s pages from beginning to end. We want the church to be full of women whose lips and lives declare: “Here Is Our God!” Not every woman is called to be a teacher in the formal sense, like those who taught at the conference. But we all teach. Women are teaching others all the time in all kinds of ways. We need an increasing number of godly models who can encourage women to handle and communicate God’s Word with clarity and humble strength in all the contexts of our lives. The 2012 conference was full of encouragement for women to this end. May this book extend that encouragement into many far corners of the church.

Walk in a Manner Worthy

Don’t get me wrong – I firmly believe that the Bible calls us out of sin and into a radically transformed lifestyle of righteousness. We’re no longer free to do as our sinful hearts desire. We’ve been bought with a price and are called to glorify God with our actions (1 Corinthians 6:20).

How to Fight Like a Christian

3. Make peace your goal. Paul wrote, "So far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all" ( Romans 12:18 ). Conflict should be the exception not the rule. As Christians, dissention is something we are told to avoid, not seek out. In fact, getting along is kind of a Christian super-power (with the help of the Holy Spirit, of course). This is probably where our mistaken notion that Christians should always agree came from. The thing is, because of sin and legitimate differences of opinion, conflict is inevitable.

God's Not Dead: No Need for Evolution: God’s Fingerprints are Everywhere

Sir Fred Hoyle dispels unguided evolution by setting forth the following: “The laws of nuclear physics have been deliberately designed with regard to the consequences they produce inside stars. If this is so, apparently random quirks have become part of a deep-laid scheme.” He called creation a “put up job.” The Lord’s fingerprints are imprinted on every part of the universe, from the tiniest atom to the largest galaxy. I enjoy examining the proof of God’s design and engineering. But in actuality, everything is evidence of God having created time, space, and matter. There is nothing in the world that is not evidence for a Creator. The believer is not merely to defend the faith with probabilities. It is impossible for God not to be the Creator. We have a perfect certainty that God hurled and fashioned this universe together for His glory. We must stand on God’s word and say to the world: God lives, and He is not silent.

The unassuming faith of Maya Angelou

In a 2013 interview with the Times-Picayune, Maya said that she believed in God because that’s what she was taught. She became courageous, however, when she internalized that belief. “I dared to do anything that was a good thing. I dared to do things as distant from what seemed to be in my future,” she said. “When I was asked to do something good, I often say yes, I'll try, yes, I'll do my best. And part of that is believing, if God loves me, if God made everything from leaves to seals and oak trees, then what is it I can't do?”

One in five Americans is now on Medicaid

No state expanding Medicaid, meanwhile, has seen a decrease in enrollment; all have more people on their Medicaid rolls than they did before the health care law. 29 Jesus Argued Reductio Ad Absurdum - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

I recently had the pleasure of attending an apologetics conference with a friend of mine who is an atheist.  One of the speakers, J. Warner Wallace , pointed out that Jesus was an astute thinker that valued evidence and went on to  provided an example.  This took my atheist friend by surprise and he seemed to appreciate the fact that Jesus was an intelligent person who valued facts and evidence.  This is something that is evident when one begins reading the Gospels; however, the church has not done enough to cultivate this view of Jesus.  As followers of Christ, we are often quick to point out how loving He is or how humble He is, but most of us do not think of Him as the smartest man who ever lived, as the late Dallas Willard contented.

Will the Internet Destroy Christianity?

Dr. Craig: Yes, here she's talking about promoting religious relativism and basically undermining particular religious confessions. But while she makes a good point, I think that the other side of the story is that there is no tool more powerful for the cause of world mission and fulfilling the Great Commission than the internet. The internet is taking these Christian resources throughout the entire world to peoples and language groups that we would never be able to come into contact with personally. And so I think she just has no idea of the degree to which the internet has abetted and furthered the cause of world mission. Just think of this, Kevin: my debate with Christopher Hitchens was live-streamed on the internet to four countries of the world—we thought that was remarkable about four years ago. My debate with Alex Rosenberg this year was live-streamed to sixty countries of the world. I was just bowled over by that. To think that in sixty countries around the globe they're watching this debate live at Purdue University defending the reasonableness of belief in God. So I think that the internet is a tool of incalculable power for the cause of world mission and spreading the Gospel, and particularly I would say this with respect to closed countries.

How To Do Singleness Well

Hello to every one out here, am here to share the unexpected miracle that happened to me three days ago, My name is Jeffrey Dowling,i live in TEXAS,USA.and I`m happily married to a lovely and caring wife, with two kids A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my wife so terrible that she took the case to court for a divorce she said that she never wanted to stay with me again, and that she did not love me anymore So she packed out of my house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get her back, after much begging, but all to no avail and she confirmed it that she has made her decision, and she never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my wife So i explained every thing to her,so she told me that the only way i can get my wife back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for her too So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow her advice. Then she gave me the email address of the spell caster whom she visited.

Living in Community

We are the children of God; birthed in love through the death of His Son. And it is by this love that we are bound to one another. But what if we have no opportunity to demonstrate that love? What if we commute to a building every Sunday and that is the extent of our “family” experience? Do we think for a moment that this is how God intended for our life together to be, a life without manifestations and demonstrations of love? If God is love and love is of God and we are lonely, detached, and empty then something has gone horribly wrong. Some may be self-inflicted, but how much has been inherited by what we have been calling the church?

35 One Question I Ask My Atheist Friends - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

I’d like to preface this post by clearly stating that my observations are not necessarily representative of the atheist population as a whole. What follows is merely a description my personal encounters. I’ve been having discussions with non-believers for a long time. Over the years, I’ve noticed distinct trends in how thoughtful, educated atheists and agnostics tend to respond to various arguments. As an apologist, it is important that I am able to better anticipate objections, so this field experience has been priceless in helping me better prepare myself for effective dialogue. One of the reasons I maintain this blog is to share the insights I’ve gained. It occurred to me a while back that it would be very interesting to pose this very simple question, as an experiment of sorts, to see how my atheist friends would respond.

38 Why Christianity Went Bust in Britain « Biola Magazine

Brown’s training as a social historian, with expertise in counting and measuring people and behaviors, did not serve him well in his attempt to answer the question. But for those of us who study the history of ideas, the question isn’t quite as baffling. Christian beliefs and practices did stop relatively abruptly. But something that was not part of Brown’s study was that the intellectual seeds of Christianity’s demise had been sown for decades prior to this abrupt drop off. And these ideas that seem to render Christianity untrue and irrelevant came to full flower between 1960 and 1975 — a period of time that Brown identifies as the crucial period of demise. Atheist, agnostic, skeptical and pluralistic professors at all the great British universities had been hammering on the faith for years before this — and there were very few defenders in their midst. Indeed, one reason C.S. Lewis was such a standout in Britain in his day is that he was so unusual. There were very, very few believers willing to make an intelligent public case for Christianity — and that is still the situation today.

Renewing Your Mind | The Omniscience of God | June 4, 2014

When reflecting on the limited capacity of the human mind, it is difficult to fathom a being who knows everything perfectly. There are some today who would limit God’s knowledge, arguing that it interferes with the free choices of individuals, but this runs counter to the clear and consistent teaching of Scripture. In this message, Dr. Lawson considers what it means to affirm that God is omniscient and why this aspect of His character is essential to our understanding of who He is.

Ask Pastor Matt: Isn’t Hypocrisy Evidence that Christianity is False? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Great question. I became an atheist as a teenage preacher’s kid and one of the reasons I came to doubt the faith was the hypocrisy I saw within the church. I too wondered how people could claim that the spirit of a never changing, all-powerful, moral, loving deity could dwell within someone who claimed to praise God on Sunday and then cheat on his or her spouse on Monday.

A Ridiculous-Sounding Affirmation for Those Fainting on the Inside and Out

First, the ridiculous-sounding affirmation: What a tender place the Lord has you in! To have that feeling of longing for his Word and to have that be your big question emerge in the midst of those circumstances is a precious gift. We’re not Word-hungry on our own; it’s evidence of the Spirit’s work when our heart is inclined to his testimonies (Ps. 119:12). And what a blessing it is to your young children that they see your appetite for God’s Word being played out in front of their watching eyes. Where does Mommy want to run to (or limp) when she’s starved for spiritual nourishment? God’s Word is so treasured that time spent meditating on it is hunted down instead of brushed off. It’s an assuring and tender grace of God to feel that even in your bone-weary physical fatigue you feel just as deeply that your soul longs and even faints for fellowship with God.

An intelligent defense of Intelligent Design: An interview with Stephen Meyer - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

For years, debates over the origin of life were framed as a fight between the growing scientific evidence for Darwinian evolution and what many believe are the plain teachings of the Bible about a literal seven-day creation event. But in recent years, a third option has emerged under the banner of “Intelligent Design” or ID for short. The ID movement attempts to combine Biblical fidelity with scientific rigor, and even though many scientists have criticized the movement as being unscientific, it’s hard to ignore the growing number of people embracing ID explanations for life on earth.

Darwin's Doubt - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

It may be surprising to learn that the father of modern evolutionary theory had doubts about his proposed explanation for life’s diversity. Reflective by nature, Darwin (1809–1882) worried about the philosophical implications of his biological theory. One concern was whether humanity’s cognitive (belief-producing) faculties—which he believed had evolved from the lower animals—could be trusted to produce reliable, true beliefs about reality itself. Here’s how Darwin expressed his epistemological (relating to knowing) reservations concerning the purely naturalistic process of evolution: 1

Which Way Did He Go? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Like a lot of people who are artistically minded, there was a time when my relationship with art faced a crisis. I was tired of squeaky-clean, prepackaged, popular art (especially music and movies). My heart wanted something else, and I had to make a decision. As I see it, there are two general responses to this type of crisis. A few will choose to dig deeper into traditional art; to get involved in more advanced, cerebral, and intricate forms. They often discover that there is a whole subculture of amazing art being created. Often times this brings them back to a place where they can appreciate certain, well made, popular music once again. Other people abandon the idea of traditional art altogether and embrace some type of postmodern or anti-art. Some will become outspoken critics of traditional art. That does not mean that they give up being artistic. They simply approach art in a totally different way--with another set of rules (or none at all).

Doing some good critical thinking is not antithetical to faith - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

It's time that the Church recognize that asking good questions and doing some good critical thinking is not antithetical to faith. In fact, I would argue that it is the very basis for faith, properly understood…We must remember that "all truth is God's truth" and we should not shy away from it. If what we have is true, we should not be afraid to think about it, investigate it and question it. If it's true, what do we have to fear?

How is Christ and Pop Culture a Ministry?

When you support Christ and Pop Culture by becoming a member, you not only receive exclusive content and perks, you also support a ministry to the Church and the world. How does writing about popular culture “edify the church and witness to the world”? Edifying the Church “Lovely Chaos @ New York City” by Vinoth Chandar/Flickr CCBY2 (via www.flickr.com) One of the most pressing issues for contemporary, American evangelicals is how to understand and live out their faith in their culture. According to a 2013 study by the Barna Group, evangelicals, are sensing a growing disparity between the rhythms and values of their faith and the demands of a rapidly changing culture. As a result, many look to sources of information that can reconcile that widening divide and offer the balm of clarity in the midst of a complex culture. (Barna, emphasis added) We care about our culture and long to know how to participate in it discerningly, without slipping into legalism or licentiousness. But with the explosion of voices and ideas in the media and online, it is difficult to think biblically and lovingly.

50 There is more to knowing God than mere intellectual assent - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

There were many in Jesus’ day who saw his miracles and yet rejected him. They had plenty of evidence. It wasn’t lack of reasons that kept them from accepting him, it was something else. There is more to knowing God in Jesus Christ than mere intellectual assent, like agreeing that the universe is vast, or some such thing. There is also the joyful yielding of the will. God gave enough light so that those who would willingly submit to him would have reasons for confidence in him. For my part, I find reasons everywhere I look!
