Report: ISIS Fighter Who 'Enjoyed' Killing Christians Wants to Follow Jesus After Dreaming of Man in White Who Told Him 'You Are Killing My People'

It has become a common occurrence over the years for Muslims in the Middle East who have converted to Christianity to claim to have been compelled to do so after dreaming of a person who they believe is Jesus Christ. Now, one militant belonging to the brutal Islamic State that has massacred Christians has converted to his victims' religion after dreaming of "a man in white" with a startling message, according to one missionary's account.

SES Conference

Welcome to the 2015 annual National Conference on Christian Apologetics (NCCA). Every year, Southern Evangelical Seminary hosts one of the largest apologetics events in the country. Join us on October 16-17, as we discuss this years theme, "Ideas Have Consequences."  Every consequence, whether good or bad, ultimately begins with an idea. This year's conference will equip Christians to engage in today's most prevalent ideas, encouraging attendees to speak words of grace, so they may "know how...to answer each person" (Colossians 4:6). Help us spread the word by sharing your thoughts on our facebook page --

3 Lindsay's Logic: For Women Whose Husbands Are Withdrawing From Church

Many Christian wives with Christian husbands are concerned because their husbands are withdrawing from church and refusing to attend or to be involved. The number one reason that men are becoming disillusioned with church is that the church has become highly feminized. Worship services often focus on emotional things like singing praise songs and sermons are often more of a pep talk or Christian psychology instead of deep doctrine. And, above all, faith is very commonly spoken of in terms of how you feel rather than reasons and evidence. Most men instinctively withdraw from Christianity that is focused on feelings. They don't want Jesus to be their boyfriend. They don't want to sing mushy love songs to Jesus or talk about their feelings about God. So a worship service that seems like just feeling happy thoughts about Jesus is going to grate and, over time, push them away.

I'm Called Stupid for Rejecting Female Fathers

The transactivist blogger came to this conclusion: "I can accept someone with this condition for who they are. I have no issues with people like this, nor do I think they are wrong for being who they are inside. It is just in my opinion that this is definitely in the realm of mental issues, more so than having Gender Dysphoria (GD) which the brain itself is physically the other gender. As rare as it is for SD, there is no scientific data saying their brain is, for example, half human/half dog. It's not possible for someone with SD to have a cross-species brain in the same way someone with GD has a cross-sexed brain."

Truthbomb Apologetics: J.P. Moreland on the Command to Do Apologetics

"The word apologia means 'to defend something,' for example, offering positive arguments for and responding to negative arguments against your position in a courtroom.  It is important to recognize that this is exactly how the apostle Paul did evangelism (Acts 14:15-17; 17:2, 4, 17-31; 18:4; 19:8).  He persuaded people to become Christians by offering rational arguments on behalf of the truth of the gospel.  He even cited approvingly two pagan philosophers, Epimenides and Aratus (Acts 17:28), as part of his case for the gospel.  In 1 Peter 3:15, the apostle does not suggest that we be prepared to do this, he commands it." The Dead End of Sexual Sin

http://utmost.org/receiving-yourself-in-the-fires-of-sorrow/

Sorrow removes a great deal of a person’s shallowness, but it does not always make that person better. Suffering either gives me to myself or it destroys me. You cannot find or receive yourself through success, because you lose your head over pride. And you cannot receive yourself through the monotony of your daily life, because you give in to complaining. The only way to find yourself is in the fires of sorrow. Why it should be this way is immaterial. The fact is that it is true in the Scriptures and in human experience. You can always recognize who has been through the fires of sorrow and received himself, and you know that you can go to him in your moment of trouble and find that he has plenty of time for you. But if a person has not been through the fires of sorrow, he is apt to be contemptuous, having no respect or time for you, only turning you away. If you will receive yourself in the fires of sorrow, God will make you nourishment for other people.

God’s Work, God’s Way

Taylor was an early pioneer and advocate of the faith mission movement. Taylor believed he and his missionaries should not request funding for their work from men, but should instead rely completely upon God’s provision to sustain their efforts. Taylor believed that “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supplies.” He was confident that as long as he was in God’s will and going about God’s work, the Lord would certainly provide all the resources needed to see the work completed.

The secret world of Isis brides: 'U dnt hav 2 pay 4 ANYTHING if u r wife of a martyr'

There is a code that Isis supporters use to communicate online. Going to Syria is “taking a holiday”; “green birds” and “dusty feet” are references to hadiths about martyrs. A single finger pointing upwards represents the Isis brand of monotheism and a commitment to death and victory. But Umm Kulthum disapproved of all this. “We’ve turned [jihad] into a kind of fad,” complained a post she shared on Tumblr, warning against “trivilising” violent jihad. “We hold up our index fingers … like we’re all part of some über-cool club.” She had other things in common with the various women I spoke to. Many spoke of being constrained by everyday life, and of longing to be part of something bigger. “You can’t just live life waiting for the next weekend to come,” Umm Kulthum wrote once. “Your aspiration should be greater than that.” She shared one important trait with the bulk of online Isis supporters: a belief that a global war between “true Islam” and “the kuffar” was taking place, and that Muslims had to choose a side.

Jesus Wants You to Wait

Take Abraham, for example. God promised to give him an heir, yet he and Sarah had to wait 25 years before God’s promise was fulfilled. Or take Moses. God called him to be Israel’s deliverer, but made him wait for 40 years in Midian before returning to Egypt. Before God led the nation of Israel into the Promised Land, Isreal had to wait for 40 years while an unfaithful generation died off. Before Paul’s life and identity were transformed, he was blinded and made to wait for three days before regaining his vision. And then there is Jesus, very God in human flesh, who waited about three decades before entering into public ministry.

Urban microbes come out of the shadows

Sewage samples from New York City’s 14 wastewater-treatment plants turned up a disturbing number of genes for resistance to antibiotics, reported genomicists Susan Joseph and Jane Carlton of NYU’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology. As a rich human-derived soup spiked with antibiotics, sewage provides an ideal niche for the growth and spread of resistance, Joseph said. Martin Blaser, director of the Human Microbiome Program at the NYU School of Medicine, said that as populations of resistant microbes and their defensive tools become more diverse, the diversity of human-associated microbes in general is declining. He told how he and his colleagues have found that people in the West carry fewer protective bacteria than isolated human groups such as the Yanomami of the Amazon rainforest.

Should We Change How We Think About Missions?

I’m writing primarily to encourage the Church. I look at the Church landscape and I’m encouraged on some levels: Christians, particularly younger evangelicals, are passionate about issues like poverty and sex trafficking—issues that we should be passionate about; the Gospel compels us to be passionate about. But what I’m concerned with is when I see those same Christians not passionate and more passive about issues like marriage and abortion. So what I want to show to the Church is that we just don’t have that option of picking and choosing which social issues we’re going to address based on what’s most comfortable and least costly to us. I really want to strengthen and call the Church to action through the book. But then, at the same time, hopefully, non-Christians in our culture will see why Christians who actually believe the Bible are so passionate about social issues and hopefully see a compassion behind why we believe what we believe.

A God Who Wants Us

One of the amazing things about God and His love is that – while we were yet sinners, Christ died! He who knew no sin died on our behalf so that we might be reconciled to the Almighty, gracious and glorious God who loves us with a love we cannot wholly understand (until we see him face to face). God so loved the world that He sent his only Son who bore our griefs, carried our sorrows, was crushed for our iniquities – WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS! After a horrible death, God raised Him to life. He continues to be among us calling us to come – come all who are thirsty and drink my living water.. Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you (Isaiah 55). Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; Make His praise glorious. Say to God, “How awesome are Your works! (Ps 66:1-3.) Blessed be the name of the Lord!! .

22 Bacteria Isolated from Bats Inhibit the Growth of Pseudogymnoascus destructans , the Causative Agent of White-Nose Syndrome

Each swab was plated on two types of general media, Reasoner’s 2A agar (R2A) and sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA), and plates were incubated at 9°C for three weeks. We classified bacteria on each plate by morphotype, using color, growth form, and gram staining techniques. We isolated one colony from each sample by morphotype (to reduce repeat sampling of the same isolate) using a sterile inoculating loop and re-plated each isolate on R2A media and grew them for 2–5 days at 9°C. Each isolate was cryo-banked by sampling from each of these colonies with a sterile inoculating loop, placing the sample in 30% glycerol, and freezing it at -80C for later use.

The Foundational Traits of Every Great Couple

Very good advice! Troubled marriages almost always begin with a loss of good will in the relationship. This leads to a sense of frustration and agitation toward each other. I tell couples that marriage is not about being in love but an agreement to love. As we understand and live this truth, the being aspect of love actually grows. Frankly, if we even practiced the first two qualities of love - (love is patient and kind) - we could improve most marriages.

Reading the Bible with Dead Guys: Ryle on Luke 18

Election is a truth which should draw out praise and thanksgiving from all true Christians. Unless God had chosen and called them, they would never have chosen and called on him. Unless he had chosen them of his own good pleasure, without reference to any goodness of theirs, there would never have been anything in them to make them worthy of his choice. The worldly may rail against the doctrine of election; the person who falsely professes to believe may abuse it and “change the grace of God into a license for immorality” ( Jude 4 ). But the believer who knows his own heart will always bless God for election. He will confess that without election there would be no salvation.

Bart Ehrman says that it's not his study of the Bible that leads him to reject God. What!?! What I Learned from Elisabeth Elliot in Her Last Years

This journey found its fullest reality at 6:15 a.m. EST on June 15, 2015, when Elisabeth breathed her last on this earth. In that moment, she went through gates of splendor and found her suffering complete in the joy of her Savior. As I sat in her funeral service and heard her husband, Lars, share the story of her last hours on earth, my mind was reeling with what is yet to be learned from Elisabeth. She will not write a new word or speak a new message, but her life can continue to instruct those who have ears to hear. So I want to share a few key thoughts especially for the Gen X and Millennial crowd that may read this article.

Is Debt a Sin Issue?

Been there, still there too. Try a consumer debt management agency if you need to restructure your credit cards as they can negotiate a lower interest rate and provide a payoff time table. Also, don't go in for the whole "beat yourself up" routine over past mistakes. Debt is not a sin to repent of, but a problem to be understood and corrected. No doubt you get that now and will make very different decisions going forward. I sure am. You move forward in baby steps - don't add to your debt, negotiate lower monthly payments with places that will let you, get rid of or rethink any nonessential loans (trade in for an older car to get out of a payment), reduce a 401k contribution (for a while) to get more cash flow, write down every expense for 2 months to really know where your money is going and then budget, and get the help of a consumer debt agency. Keep at month by month, and give yourself permission to splurge every once in a while so you don't go insane!!

God Created Us for His Glory

But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went. Therefore, say to the house of Israel, "Thus says the Lord God, 'It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. And I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord," declares the Lord God, "when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight. For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the lands, and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness, and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. And you will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God.

Is it Stupid to Believe in Miracles? A comparison of various theories.

I am skeptical of all of these theories but I don’t think we should dismiss any of them merely because their radical implications seem implausible. In the same way, one shouldn’t dismiss the possibility of God even if miracles seem too implausible to you. One should examine evidence for these theories relative to their predictions and relative to alternate theories – i.e. by employing abductive reasoning (an inference to the best explanation). I think that many of these speculative proposals are inferior alternatives to the hypothesis that God created the universe and finely-tuned the physics to support life and are actually posited to some degree as alternatives to evidence for design. Naturalistic presuppositions seem to play some role in motivating many of these speculative theories, with the probable exception of the Many Worlds Interpretation (which I think is by far the most likely of any of these to actually be true – which isn’t saying much though).

A Last Name Says a Lot

When my husband and I decided to get married, we didn’t do so merely because we wanted to wake up next to one another every morning, raise a family together, or split bills down the middle. In our modern age, a marriage license is not necessary for these sorts of arrangements to exist. We were married because, as Christians, we knew marriage to be a covenant union sanctioned by God for his glory, for our joy, and for the good of others. In our marriages, we go from being separate units to one flesh (Genesis 2:24), one team.

Let's All Be a Little Kinder to Each Other - Holley Gerth

I am all T-rex mode in my running adventures too! I remember a day last year when I just started running 3 miles. I was halfway through my run and got caught behind the cutest, yet slowest elderly couple. As I shuffled by, the older gentleman grabbed my arm. I stopped, heart pumping and annoyed. It’s SO hard to go back to running after you stop. His words pierced my heart – “I know you have been running for a while. I just wanted you to know, you smile when you run. That’s weird. But as I walked and saw you, I thought I need to smile too. So, now my wife walks with me and we talk a lot. You started that. Just wanted you to know. Keep smiling young lady.” Best encouragement I’ve EVER had in my running, from a guy than can no longer run. Life changing moment! Be kind and smile…even in T-Rex mode

Adams drew this parallel: Before Christ invades our lives at conversion, he sometimes has to “soften us up” by allowing problems we can’t handle. While some open their lives to Christ the first time he knocks on the door, most of us are resistant and defensive. Our pre-conversion experience is Jesus saying, “Behold! I stand at the door and bomb!”
