Creflo Dollar Will Get $70 Million Gulfstream G650 Jet Says Church; World Changers Board Says It Is 'Necessary' for Ministry

The board of World Changers Church International, which was founded by popular televangelist Creflo Dollar and conducts business as Creflo Dollar Ministries, said in a strongly worded statement that the organization will acquire the luxury multimillion dollar Gulfstream G650 jet they tried to raise $65 million to purchase through a short-lived crowdfunding campaign that sparked public outcry in March.

Answering Muslims: Not Enough Land in Great Britain to Build the Prisons Needed to House Pedophiles

Muhammad allowed his followers to rape their female captives . Fourteen centuries later, Muslims in the UK have raped so many young British girls, the government can't even punish the rapists. As Deputy Children’s Commissioner Sue Berelowitz reports, the British government would need to build prisons endlessly to house the pedophiles, and there may not be enough land to build them. Telegraph—Child sex abuse is so rife in Britain that there is not enough land in the country to build the number of prisons needed to house the perpetrators, the Deputy Children’s Commissioner for England has warned. Sue Berelowitz, who is currently chairing the government’s inquiry into the problem said the public would be shocked by the sheer scale of the problem when she reports in November. She blamed the spread of pornography through the internet and social media for the growing problem of an increasingly sexualised society. Speaking at the Hay Festival, Mrs Berelowitz said: “We live in a highly sexualised world in which for the most part it is considered quite acceptable to do as they want with females, and too many females think that is something they must comply with because they think it is a part of growing up “Child porn and the proliferation of indecent images of children, and all the stuff we are seeing on social media which is undoubtedly having an impact on young people growing up and their impressions of sex and sexuality. “I want us to keep in mind that people who sexually abuse children are somehow another breed. They are here and in our midst. “There certainly needs to be much more awareness to bring it into the public’s consciousness. The figures when I report in November are going to be very shocking indeed. “If the CPS were to prosecute everyone we would need a rolling prison programme. I would say there probably isn’t the land to build enough prisons." Mrs Berelowitz’s report comes in the wake of abuse scandals in areas including Rotherham, where it was reported that 1,400 children were abused between 1997 and 2013. A previous inquiry into sex abuse by gangs revealed that from August 2010 to October 2011 at least 2,409 children were sexually exploited by gangs and groups across England. (Continue Reading.) Answering Muslims: Iraqi Military Lost 2,300 Armored Humvees to ISIS in Fall of Mosul

AFP —Iraqi security forces lost 2,300 Humvee armoured vehicles when the Islamic State jihadist group overran the northern city of Mosul, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday. "In the collapse of Mosul, we lost a lot of weapons," Abadi said in an interview with Iraqiya state TV. "We lost 2,300 Humvees in Mosul alone." While the exact price of the vehicles varies depending on how they are armoured and equipped, it is clearly a hugely expensive loss that has boosted IS' capabilities. Last year, the State Department approved a possible sale to Iraq of 1,000 Humvees with increased armour, machineguns, grenade launchers, other gear and support that was estimated to cost $579 million. Clashes began in Mosul, Iraq's second city, late on June 9, 2014, and Iraqi forces lost it the following day to IS, which spearheaded an offensive that overran much of the country's Sunni Arab heartland. The militants gained ample arms, ammunition and other equipment when multiple Iraqi divisions fell apart in the country's north, abandoning gear and shedding uniforms in their haste to flee. IS has used captured Humvees, which were provided to Iraq by the United States, in subsequent fighting, rigging some with explosives for suicide bombings. ( Continue Reading. )

Faithful Thinkers: 10 Quotes From Dr. Hugh Ross on Why The Universe Is The Way It Is

This is a collection of my favorite quotes from the book Why The Universe Is The Way It Is by astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross . My full review of the book may be read here . For more information about the work of Dr. Ross, please visit Reasons to Believe . Investigating Reality "Humans...wonder about everything: tangible and intangible, tiny and huge, near and far, the past and the future as well as the present- the how and why of everything both in this universe and beyond. Human curiosity knows no boundaries, and many individuals will pay any price, even lose their own lives, to satisfy it." "I'm firmly convinced we can know enough. Not enough to end all questions, but enough to make sense of our lives. We can build a cosmic perspective solid enough to remain firm yet flexible enough to absorb the impact of new discoveries." Problem of Evil "Nothing seems to perplex humanity as much as the subject of evil. Some say the existence of evil is a paradox wrapped in an enigma enshrouded in mystery embedded in riddle implanted in a puzzle inside a giant maze." "From the moment spiritual death (autonomy from God) invaded creation physical death became a blessing, an avenue through which God could temper the outbreak of evil and suffering.

"Sex Change" Surgery: What Bruce Jenner, Diane Sawyer, and You Should Know

In the wake of the Hopkins study, the closure of the flagship Hopkins clinic, and the warning sounded by Ihlenfeld, advocates of sex change surgery needed a new strategy. Benjamin and Money looked to their friend, Paul Walker, PhD, a homosexual and transgender activist they knew shared their passion to provide hormones and surgery. A committee was formed to draft standards of care for transgenders that furthered their agenda, with Paul Walker at the helm. The committee included a psychiatrist, a pedophilia activist, two plastic surgeons, and a urologist, all of whom would financially benefit from keeping gender reassignment surgery available for anyone who wanted it. The “Harry Benjamin International Standards of Care” were published in 1979 and gave fresh life to gender surgery.

Why We Stopped Doing Sex Change Operations

This information and the improved understanding of what we had been doing led us to stop prescribing sex-change operations for adults at Hopkins—much, I’m glad to say, to the relief of several of our plastic surgeons who had previously been commandeered to carry out the procedures. And with this solution to the first issue I could turn to the second—namely, the practice of surgically assigning femaleness to male newborns who at birth had malformed, sexually ambiguous genitalia and severe phallic defects. This practice, more the province of the pediatric department than of my own, was nonetheless of concern to psychiatrists because the opinions generated around these cases helped to form the view that sexual identity was a matter of cultural conditioning rather than something fundamental to the human constitution.

You Only Live Once?

The popular acronym YOLO (you only live once) has captured the hearts of many an emerging hedonist (and not the Christian kind). It wrests the minds of thousands with the tyranny of the urgent, motivating a kind of desperate restlessness to squeeze the last drop of pleasure out of these quickly fading days. YOLO is imprisoning a generation with a familiar lie exposed by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:32: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Brothers, We Are Not Managers

Shepherds guard sheep. A shepherd’s main task is to protect the flock from harm: wolves, injury, scattering, robbers. This thread runs through the Bible. David kills lions and bears to defend his sheep. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, lays down his life to save his people. Paul charges his listeners, “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God” (Acts 20:28). To be a pastor or shepherd is to be a guardian.

6 Problems with the Evangelical Church - OnFaith

I think the core problem with Christianity today he is the inability to see the inherent problems with biblical application, particularly in the inerrancy camp. We can no longer scream sola scriptura when relativism of biblical application so clearly exists. For instance 70 years ago we all knew the Bible clearly and tequivocally prohibited remarriage after divorce because as Jesus so clearly articulated in the first gospel written – mark – anyone who remarries after divorce commits adultery. That clear biblical “truth” of course changed when divorce rates rose in the 50s and 60s Similarly the biblical truth that marriage should not exist between the races which we clearly knew was the case in the fifties and sixties changed with civil rights equality and with the Supreme Court decision striking down such laws in Virginia in 1967. Now there is no doubt that interracial marriage, despite prohibitions viewed in Deuteronomy years ago, is magically OK with evangelicals. So be it with same sex marriage. Look where we will be in 30 years. If you have doubts look where the young evangelical church has moved on this subject in only 5 years.

You wouldn’t know it, except by looking at the results. Annual revenues at the five-year-old company are "well over" $100 million, according to a person familiar with its finances. Meanwhile, its two CEOs, who founded the company with two other Wharton classmates, have transformed what was a niche web shop into the hottest thing in offline retail, with 10 stores so far and sales-per-square foot figures that rival those of Tiffany & Co. "When we launched, a lot of people bucketed us as an e-commerce company, but we never thought of ourselves as an e-commerce company," Gilboa says. "The only products we sell now are glasses, but we think our brand can stand for much more than that over a long time period." That's an ambition that many e-commerce companies have talked about. Warby Parker is the only one so far that seems likely to pull it off.

When Emotional Attachment Becomes Unhealthy

I’ve had plenty of experiences in my life where I struggled with emotional attachment. Basically, I found my heart invested in someone and unable to let them go, even when I knew I couldn’t be with them. But regardless of what I knew mentally, I remained emotionally tied to that person.

Sexed-Up Culture Ruined Healthy Male-Female Work Relationships

As a researcher who focuses on female Christian leaders, I hear it over and over. The first female vice president of a Christian organization confessed she missed out on opportunities to advance her projects because the president made businesses decisions over lunch, and he promised his wife he wouldn’t eat lunch alone with women. It was enough to make her want to quit. A female pastor in Minnesota told me about being overlooked for staff development opportunities, while the lead pastor invested in her male coworkers. A female seminary professor shared the too-familiar struggle of trying to find a mentor among her all-male colleagues.

Still Restless, Though I Rest in Thee

As a parent, especially, I find myself faced with the challenge of talking about loneliness in the context of Christian living. I can teach my kids how to eat their greens, wipe their bottoms, and greet new guests with civility. I can teach them that Jesus loves them. But somehow I also have to teach them about the “now, not yet” dichotomy that says yes, Jesus is among us, but he’s not here yet in fullness, so on this side of eternity we’re still vulnerable to the strong, silent undertow of loneliness—the same loneliness that leaves Don Draper looking wistfully out his window at the New York cityscape.

Unlikely

Unlikely Chapter One Something Old, Something New: An Unlikely Background “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?” —Isaiah 43:19 NLT There Dad stood, more than forty years ago, in the middle of the bullring with his black slacks, black suit coat, white shirt, and black tie. Black Ray-Ban sunglasses to shield his eyes from the blazing sun. He stood, looking a little like Johnny Cash, only he wasn’t growling out “Ring of Fire.” He was holding up his Bible in one hand, the other hand raised to the sky. The sun beat down as his voice rang out to the captivated audience in Quito, Ecuador. To Dad, bullring or flatbed truck or packed arena, it didn’t matter. His love was Jesus Christ and the life-changing Good News he brings. All these years later when I think about the early days—before we moved back to Beaverton, a western suburb of Portland; when we were living in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico—I think about the bullring. I think about the big posters all over town with my dad’s smiling face on them. He was a big deal to some, but he was always just “Dad” to us.

5 Things Christians Can Learn from Traveling

I saw these things, and when I came back home, I began to realize comfort and complacency were much bigger issues for the American church than persecution. Our challenge is finding the urgency to live out our faith in a part of the world where it’s hard to sense the need for urgency. Complacency doesn’t sound as scary as persecution, but anything that keeps us from living the life Christ has called us to is scary.

Bruce ‘Caitlyn’ Jenner Needs Our Prayers, Not Our Applause

Why does the intolerant Left so vigilantly police speech — introducing even a Twitter “bot” to automate the scolding about the “correct” gender pronoun to use in reference to Jenner? Because they know speech — including simple pronouns — matters. Don’t consent. Laverne Cox is not a woman , and neither is “Caitlyn Jenner.” He is a man with breast implants. He’s always been a man, and he will always be a man. Yes, he’s deeply troubled. Our hearts go out to him in his pain, but the answer is not found in radical self-regard, and it’s certainly not found in surgical mutilation. He is a man created in God’s image, yet a man experiencing deep anguish about his very creation. He needs our prayers, not our applause.

Eleven Things Pastors Need to Know Their Spouses Are Thinking

I simply want to say thank you for your blog and research. I am young pastor with two children and my wife and I are battling through this right now, together. Pray for us that Christ remains our focus. Especially pray for my wife. I am trying to remain an encouragement to her while at the same time lead her spiritually as well. Often, I have to be reminded of another statement, “Don’t treat me like one of the other church members; I am your wife.” Of course that’s not intentional but working through these things together can be challenging at times. But the hope is; we have been told if you can make it through ministry as a young couple with toddlers; you can make it through anything. Thank you again for your ministry and what you do.

Why Arguments Against Women in Ministry Aren’t Biblical

2) Women can’t be ministers because then they would have headship over men, including their husbands— and this will never do, and is a violation of the household codes in the NT. This argument is often complex and at the heart of it is an essential confusion of what the NT says about order in the physical family and home, and order in the family of faith, wherever it may meet. It is certainly true that texts like Col.3-4 and Ephes. 5-6 and other texts in 1 Pet. for example do talk about the structure of the physical family. As I have argued at length, the patriarchal family was the existing reality in the NT world, and what you discover when you compare what is in the NT and what is outside the NT, is that Paul and others are working hard to change the existing structures in a more Christian direction. Paul, for example, has to start with his audience where they are, and then persuade them to change. And you can see this process at work in Philemon, Colossians, and Ephesians. For example, though the language of headship and submission is certainly used in these texts the trajectory of the argument is intended to: 1) place more and more strictures on the head of the household to limit his power and the way he relates to his wife, his children and his slaves; 2) make the head of the household aware that women, children and slaves are in fact persons created in God’s image, not chattel or property.

Mad Men and Christian Chivalry

Set during the 1960s in New York City and depicting the go-go advertising industry on Madison Avenue—hence the title, “Mad Men”—the cleverly written series is full of values and behavior that, shall we say, cross the line. Okay, that’s an understatement: sexism runs rampant through the series and hot-shot male executives chase skirts as much as they do clients in the office pool. But all of this is why I found an article about the show in the New York Post so intriguing.

Renewing Your Mind | Sovereign Election, Part 1 | June 2, 2015

The doctrine of sovereign election, when viewed in an improper perspective, may seem cold and unfeeling, depicting God as callous and arbitrary in His election of some and not others. Yet, this viewpoint fails in two significant ways. First, it assumes man deserves God's favor. Second, it does not recognize the extreme love demonstrated by God toward His Son and His elect. Election finds its root in God's love, and as Dr. Lawson explains in this lesson, far from being a dictatorial, meaningless activity by an unfeeling God, sovereign election expresses the fullness of God's love for a sinful, unrepentant people unable to make the choice to love God for themselves.

Transgender: When Psychological Identity Trumps Bodily Identity

I’m amazed at how quickly many Christians think we’ve got this all figured out – how we assume that if gender dysphoria exists, it must be the mind that has been affected, not the body. If all of creation is fallen, could not the opposite be true? Why are we so quick to assume that in all instances of gender dysphoria, altering the psyche of a person is healthy and God-honoring, but altering the physical body is unhealthy and sinful? Why do many assume that bodily identity trumps psychological identity? Can we agree that both are valid aspect of gender? Appealing for less arrogant certainty and more grace-filled curiosity.

What Was Samson Doing with a Prostitute in Gaza?

What was Samson doing with a prostitute in Gaza? For most of us, this might seem like a naïve question. Isn’t it obvious? But let’s think from another perspective. If you were traveling in the ancient world, you may have stopped at night in a city on your way to a final destination. Upon entering the city, you would sit in the town square and, if you were fortunate, an elder or other upstanding citizen would invite you to stay with him for the evening (see Judg. 19:11-21). Thus your presence and your purpose for visiting would become immediately clear. If, however, you wanted to enter a town undetected, it would have been a good strategy to stay with a prostitute to mask your true intent.

What Is Christian Unity?

Where the Spirit of God is there must be love, and if I have once known and recognized any man to be my brother in Christ Jesus, the love of Christ constraineth me no more to think of him as a stranger or foreigner, but a fellow citizen with the saints. Now I hate High Churchism as my soul hates Satan; but I love George Herbert, although George Herbert is a desperately High Churchman. I hate his High Churchism, but I love George Herbert from my very soul, and I have a warm corner in my heart for every man who is like him. Let me find a man who loves my Lord Jesus Christ as George Herbert did and I do not ask myself whether I shall love him or not; there is no room for question, for I cannot help myself; unless I can leave off loving Jesus Christ, I cannot cease loving those who love him.
