Why Christians Are Fleeing One of Africa's Oldest and Largest Christian Homelands

The name means "unified" in Ge’ez, the ancient and still liturgical language of Ethiopia. It refers to Christ’s one nature, both human and divine. In A.D. 451, the Oriental Orthodox churches rejected the Council of Chalcedon’s pronouncement of his two natures.

Why doesn't God make his existence more obvious to people?

I’ll equate it to this: just because you get married doesn’t mean you stop pursuing your spouse. I’ve been a christian for a while and got into apologetics on a whim, but ever since then it’s driven me to pursue God more and more. I found a passion for talking about it and I hope I never give up that pursuit. I’ve lived with non-believers most of my life and found their philosophy and psychology don’t end up well. They still have to answer the bigger questions in life and all I’ve ever seen were anti-theistic pragmatic or emotive reactions to life’s circumstances.

Truthbomb Apologetics: J.P. Moreland on Culture

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that our entire culture is in trouble.  We are staring down the barrel of a loaded gun, and we can no longer afford to act like it's loaded with blanks.  The guidance counselor at a public high school near my home confessed to a parents' group that the teenagers who have attended the school during the last ten years are the most dysfunctional, illiterate group he has witnessed in close to forty years at the same school.  Our society has replaced heroes with celebrities, the quest for a well-informed character with the search for flat abs, substance and depth with image and personality.  In the political process, the makeup man is more important than the speech writer, and we approach the voting booth, no on the basis of a well-developed philosophy of what the state should be, but with a heart full of images, emotions, and slogans all packed into thirty-second sound bites.  The mind-numbing, irrational tripe that fills TV talk shows is digested by millions of bored, lonely Americans hungry for that sort of stuff.

Renewing Your Mind | Rest! | June 18, 2015

The debate continues to this day over when and how we ought to celebrate the Sabbath day. But the principles established in the fourth commandment are not debatable. How those principles translate into to the lives of New Testament believers is where we find disagreement. Amid the debate, there is something we ought never to forget. In this message, Dr. Sproul tells us what that is as he explains the core principles that establish a biblical Sabbath.

Peaches in Paradise

A Christian woman’s true freedom [and, of course, she would also say a Christian man’s true freedom] lies on the other side of a very small gate — humble obedience — but that gate leads out into a largeness of life undreamed of by the liberators of the world, to a place where the God-given differentiation between the sexes is not obfuscated but celebrated, where our inequalities are seen as essential to the image of God, for it is in male and female, in male as male and female as female, not as two identical and interchangeable halves, that the image is manifested. Words of Wisdom to My Daughter about Boys - All Pro Dad

Several weeks ago, my wife sent me a video text of my daughter. She was wearing a wedding veil and bouquet. She said, “Hello Daddy, welcome to my future.” After I got over the initial heart attack, I thought about her relationships with boys. I want to prepare her the best I can. The greater I model the right things to her, the deeper my words will sink into her heart. I want her to be in relationships with boys that treat her well. She needs to be prepared on how to spot the character qualities of these types of boys. With that said, here are my words of wisdom to my daughter about boys.

Standing With Charleston: Solidarity in the Church

This tragedy brought against both faith and race represents unmasked evil. And it appears to be another incident pointing to the shockingly commonplace sin of racism in our culture. Fire on the Mountain

The path through the trees was narrow and overgrown, meandering its way through birch, oak and elm, climbing gently as it wound its way up from the valley. A few minutes walking brought me to the ancient moss-laden wall that surrounded the forest, from which a wooden gate led out on the hillside. From there the track quickly steepened as it wound sinuously up toward the mountaintop. I paused every so often to catch my breath, turning to watch the cloud shadows chase one another across the flanks of the hills on the far side of the valley.

34 More Doubling Down on Faulty Principles - Stand to Reason Blog

But that's neither here nor there. What do you think about the actual principle in question? Does a person's subjective self-image determine reality? Is Jenner a woman? Is Dolezal black? That's the only thing this post is about, and the question of what determines reality is an absolutely crucial question for society. Do we create ourselves? Or do we conform our ideas about ourselves to what is already true? This matters a great deal, which is why my moral conscience prompted me to draw attention to what our society is saying on this matter (and how the way they contradict themselves points to their deeper understanding that this is not how reality works).

7 Tips For Apologetics Judo

Apologetics lends itself to martial arts metaphors. Christian apologetics lends itself to many other metaphors too, besides combat, war and martial arts. Apologetics can be modeled after any number of other helpful analogies, for example (1) Cultivating an Intellectual Garden, (2) Worldview Surgery, (3) Theological Housecleaning, or (4) Ideological Homebuilding, etc. etc. I’m afraid my examples today fall in line more with images of combat, fighting, and warfare. But hey, the best movies in history tend to be love-stories and war movies right? Christianity has both, the epic love-story of all history set within a series of battles. In the end, the apparent tragedies dotting the timeline of history (crucifixion, tribulation, cosmic destruction) give way to a comedic ending, a heroic victory (Christ’s return), with wedded union (Church and Christ), and eternal wedding party (heaven).

A Look Inside the Caliphate of Fear

The picture they paint suggests the Islamic State’s “caliphate” has evolved into an entrenched pseudo-state, based on a bureaucracy of terror. What We Get Wrong About Emotional Struggles

This is strange, considering that physical illness is so heavily addressed in churches. If someone is struggling from the daily aches, medicine, and care that a physical ailment brings about, the church is ready to offer healing. 3 Reasons to Call on the Lord

Prayer is often called a “spiritual discipline.” But consistent prayer isn’t merely a matter of discipline; it’s a response to the actual experience of life, and the understanding of how utterly dependent we are on God. We look in the mirror and say, “I’m going to need help today. This is not going to work without help.” I’ve never understood that need more than I do today, after years of learning to rely on God through the life-giving importance of prayer.

There are Now More Than 50 Million Refugees Around the World

The Institute for Economics and Peace released its Global Peace Index today, and the insights were troubling. According to the index, the world has become less peaceful in the last eight years, and one of the consequences is that more than 50 million people have been forced from their homes as refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs). As The Atlantic points out, that’s “one in every 133 people worldwide,” or roughly the equivalent of the combined populations of Australia and Taiwan. It’s the highest number of refugees and IDPs since WWII. The number of IDPs has grown by more than 300 percent in the last 11 years, with conflicts in the Middle East, Colombia, Congo and Somalia displacing civilians. The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre estimates the annual economic toll of displacement is almost $100 billion ...

43 Christian Apologetics: Who Needs It? | Reasonable Faith

Now I do find that students can be suspicious of a Christian speaker. So they like to hear both sides of an issue presented. For that reason I’ve found debates to be an especially attractive forum for university evangelism. I competed for eight years in high school and collegiate debate activities, debating topics of public policy like the military assistance program, wage and price controls, and so forth. I never dreamt that debate would someday become a ministry activity. But shortly after finishing my theological doctorate, I began to receive invitations from Christian student groups in Canada to participate in debates on topics like “Does God Exist?,” “Did Jesus Rise from the Dead?,” “Humanism vs. Christianity,” and so forth. And what I’ve discovered is that whereas a few score or maybe a couple hundred will come out to hear me give a campus talk, several hundred and even thousands of students will come to a debate where they can hear both sides presented. For example, 2,200 students at UC Riverside came out to hear my debate with Greg Cavin on the resurrection of Jesus.

God's Not Dead: The Incarnation of Jesus Christ: God in the Flesh

Jesus as the Son of Man and the Son of God has two natures found in one person—Christ is God the Great I AM in human flesh (Exodus 3:14; John 8:58). The Bible reveals the dual nature of Christ and humanity’s salvation demands that be the case. It’s a mystery, but a mystery that in selected ways not only makes sense, but is necessary for redemption. Jesus, in the incarnation, did not lose His divinity. He did not lose His authority or His deity. He voluntarily came to the earth as a human baby to live perfectly as He fulfilled the Law—He took on our humanity in order to die in our place (Isaiah 53:4-6; 2 Cor. 5:21; and 1 Pet. 2:24). All the newfangled views of Christ fail to overturn such truths.

45
Christians Need to Stop Cussing

When I first became a Christian I had a bad mouth. I am thankful that over time God worked to change my heart, and as a result, my mouth. I knew right away that talking in a particular way was offensive to God and others. It does not have a place among those professing faith in Christ because it does not give grace to those who hear (Eph. 4:29). This is pretty straightforward.

God's Not Dead: Evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus: Demonstrated and Integrated with Assured Proof

Scholars researching the resurrection of Christ should not presume the entitlements of the all-knowing God. Man is fallen. People have sinned. Acquiescing to the actuality of sin is requirement for real conversion—one must repent from sin and trust in Christ. The accurate researcher must consent to his finitude and its limitations. He must understand himself in light of who God is and what He has revealed. Nevertheless, many academics scrap both. Too often writers tackling the subject of Christ and His resurrection approach the subject with naturalistic presuppositions. Naturalism denies the fallen nature of man and effectively makes human reason the controlling authority, the rational zenith used to analyze the truth of God’s word. The positions are then reversed, for the reason that God is then at best an unnecessary idea. He is vulgarly dismissed as a superfluous invasion into naturalism's domain.

FCC Fines AT&T $100 Million for Limiting So-Called Unlimited Data

The FCC just levied the largest fine in the agency's history against AT&T Mobility. The mobile service provider received a $100 million fine for offering unlimited data plans to customers, but then severely limiting the actual speeds users could access when they reached a certain point in their usage. AT&T is fighting the fines, claiming in a statement, "The FCC has specifically identified this practice as a legitimate and reasonable way to manage network resources for the benefit of all customers, and has known for years that all of the major carriers use it.” However, as the AP notes , instead of only limiting speeds during times of heavy network usage like other carriers, AT&T slows subscribers for the duration of their billing period, even if the network was not congested. An FCC official explained, "Unlimited means unlimited," and said that AT&T intentional avoided transparency with its customers ...

Sharing the Gospel During Ramadan

They can, however, eat and do what they like after the sun sets and until the sun comes up the next morning. It is said that more food is consumed during the month of Ramadan than at any other time of the year. The breaking of the fast is celebrated by the eating of a date and then, depending on the region, an assortment of foods that are consumed until late that night. One last meal is eaten before sunrise and many Muslims will then sleep as late as their jobs permit. During the summer months, Ramadan is hardest on the workers who must rise early and perhaps toil in the sun all day without being able to drink water to renew their strength.
