The Atheist Delusion - Video

(Widescreen DVD, Special Features, Closed Captioning, Run Time 62 minutes) From Living Waters, creators of the award-winning TV program "The Way of the Master" and the hit movies "180" and "Evolution vs. God," comes the powerful film "The Atheist Delusion." Executive produced by TV co-host and best-selling author Ray Comfort ( Hell's Best Kept Secret , Scientific Facts in the Bible ). Having to prove the existence of God to an atheist is like having to prove the existence of the sun, at noon on a clear day. Yet millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism. "The Atheist Delusion" pulls back the curtain and reveals what is going on in the mind of those who deny the obvious. It introduces you to a number of atheists who you will follow as they go where the evidence leads, find a roadblock, and enter into a place of honesty that is rarely seen on film.

The Christian Case for Carpe Diem

A more Christian attitude, which can be attained at any age, is that of leaving futurity in God’s hands. We may as well, for God will certainly retain it whether we leave it to Him or not. Never … commit your virtue or your happiness to the future. Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat lightly and works from moment to moment “as to the Lord.” It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received.

The Ten Commandments of Apologetics

When I first began my apologetic ministry, I learned the hard way—as probably many of you did—that possessing apologetic knowledge and the ability to answer the tough questions does not qualify someone as a good apologist. It’s also necessary to engage unbelievers in such a way that they will give us a fair hearing—that they will listen, understand, and seriously consider our perspective. In this article, I’ll lay out the do’s and don’ts of good apologetics. On the “do” side are the principles of sound apologetic tactics. On the “don’t” side are the pitfalls of poor apologetics—things to avoid. Together they provide the ground rules of effective apologetic evangelism. I call these principles the ten commandments of apologetics. 1

Exposing the Child Sex Trafficking Epidemic in Cambodia

The dark epidemic of sex trafficking in Cambodia is unhinged, and the world needs to wake up. Cambodia is known as a top destination for child rape. While the children are clearly frightened and confused, their innocence is bargained away by pedophiles and rapists who take pleasure in their pain. There are an estimated 30-40,000 sex workers across Cambodia with nearly half under the age of 15. Police are paid off, and the government is known to turn a blind eye since sex tourism is fueling the economy. Cambodia is a sexual playground for those indifferent to the destruction caused by their lust.

A Police Dog Has Been Fired for Being Too Sweet and Friendly

Well, family bloodline ain’t everything, it seems, because Gavel is cursed with the enviable personality flaw of being just too sweet. He loves strangers, meeting new people and playing with his pals. The police department was forced to flunk poor Gavel out, on account of the fact that he “did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line.”

I humbly admit that I need help. I want you to help renew my mind. Help me to think the way you want me to think. Please forgive me for my pride. Forgive me for trying to change on my own.

Cambodians Usher in a Miraculous Moment for Christianity

“You are at peace, and I appeal to all religions in Cambodia not to harass you or your sects,” Hun told the pastors gathered in a luxe city hall in Koh Pich, the fast-developing “Diamond Island” in the center of the capital, Phnom Penh. Though Christians were not allowed to pray or share remarks during the meeting, Tep said, “at least it’s a spark to keep the fire burning.”

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

The Single Person’s Search for Intimacy

When we make marriage the primary means of intimacy in the church, we do a huge disservice to the singles in our fellowship and the idea of Christian community as a whole. Marriage is not an island that we move to in order to bring glory to God; it’s just one picture (and a very prominent one) in a gigantic network of human relationships meant to deepen our understanding of Christ.

Natural Explanations and A Supernatural God

I get lots of email from skeptics. Much of this email is related to miracles. People want to know why Christians are so quick to attribute an event (or healing) to the miraculous intervention of a supernatural God, especially when it appears that a natural force may be offered as an explanation. After all, even Moses reported that a “strong east wind” blew all night prior to the parting of the red sea (Exodus 14:21). Maybe this natural occurrence was simply interpreted as a miracle after the fact. In a similar way, Thallus (the 1st Century Roman historian) attributed the darkness at the crucifixion to “an eclipse of the sun”; another reasonable natural occurrence that may have been misinterpreted as a miracle by those who were inclined toward the miraculous.

BP This Week: Bernie Sanders, Transgender Athletes, and Assisted Suicide in Britain

Senator Bernie Sanders, the runner-up for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, said while grilling a Trump budget appointee that Christians who believe in the exclusivity of Christ aren’t the kind of people “this country is supposed to be about.” As Emma Green at The Atlantic observed, this functions as a religious test for office, which is prohibited by Article VI of the U.S. Constitution.

An Open Letter to Senator Bernie Sanders | The Stream

Everyone regardless of their theology or lack thereof subscribes to a belief system. Be it believer’s, unbeliever’s or disbeliever’s . We all have something upon which we hang our “party hat’. In Bernie’s case his refusal to acknowledge that Christian gentleman’s position on a clearly stated & theologically sound doctrine embraced by Christians for two millennia is intolerant. So for as much as Mr Sanders vote matters when Mr Vought is confirmed, his basis for withholding that vote appears to be predicated upon something other than Mr Vought’s capacity for meeting that job’s criteria. So the senators ” unbelief” , perhaps his adherence to some form of humanism & possibly atheism both of which are”beliefs” was “forced ‘ upon Mr Vought’ by virtue of Bernie’s decision to make his Christian faith the issue. Had Sanders simply just referenced his refusal to vote yea because it was his “solemn duty” as a member of the “party of resistance’ that would have been a different matter.

Tragic Church Bus Crash Ends Student Mission Trip Before It Can Start

The bus carried 38 passengers, mostly 11th and 12th-grade students, from Mount Zion Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, about three and a half hours away. The group, including a second bus from the church, was on their way to a flight bound for Botswana. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Hundreds of New Churches Not Enough to Satisfy Southern Baptists

The only measure where Southern Baptists are growing is their number of churches, adding 479 churches last year for a total of more than 47,000. But leaders are concerned that they have fewer people to fill those churches. Congregations reported an overall drop in Sunday service attendance (down 7%) and fewer new believers being added through baptism (down 5%).

Worship in Your Waiting

Waiting is a standard part of life in a finite world. Regardless of whether our waiting feels easy or hard at the moment, how we wait is shaping the people we are becoming. Worship is essential to that wait because a Godward perspective helps us to persevere with patience and hope. Endurance, Paul tells us, “produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:4–5).

At least, that’s the picture we’re getting from Taylor Swift, who, after years of being pretty coy about Spotify’s flirtatious ways, has finally handed her catalog over to them. You can now listen to “Bad Blood” on repeat if you so desire.

One Less Orphan

Orphan care requires more than middle-class families welcoming children into our own homes. Foster care and adoption are relief work — good and beautiful relief for a child from the brokenness of this world. But orphan care will involve more than just relief. It also includes seeking restoration and equity. It involves engaging in broken child-welfare systems and looking to prevent child abuse by walking with those who are isolated and battling poverty and addictions.

What to Do When Tough Times Hit

At no other time in our lives will we experience Christ more intimately than when we are at our weakest. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted,” the Bible says. Perhaps it’s because we finally make ourselves completely vulnerable to Him in a way only suffering can enable us to. Either way, Christ is able to comfort us—if we let Him. Not only is He almighty God, but He was once a man too, a man who walked in our shoes many miles over. He understands our pain. Empathy is more than the unilateral presence of company. Empathy is security: knowing someone has endured similar circumstances reassures us that there is a way out for us, too. But Jesus didn’t just endure suffering and come out of it OK—He was victorious and His victory over death and suffering ensures our victory too.

Literary Critics Examine the New Testament

Let us turn to how the style of writing is evaluated……not by laymen, but by literary scholars. I know of two who were atheists who were teaching literature at the university level, then became Christian when they turned their eye toward the Bible.

What You Need to Know About Labor Conditions in China

Doubtlessly, greater domestic advocacy is needed to strengthen labor and anti-trafficking laws, increase supply chain transparency, improve labor conditions and lobby for worker’s rights. And yet, these action steps are hampered within a national context where human rights defenders are persecuted, freedom of expression is squelched by censorship and torture and unfair trials are commonly practiced. Right now, three human rights activists in China are being detained or have gone missing while investigating austere labor conditions at shoe factory—the same one that produces shoes for Ivanka Trump’s fashion label.

Bernie Sanders Thinks All Christians Disqualified From Public Office

It also would have been choice if Vought would have pointed out that Muslims think all Christians are condemned, as well. Does Sanders want to bar all Muslims from serving in public office too? I doubt it since Sanders also quoted a letter condemning Vought from the Arab American Institute and Muslim Advocates. I guess it's okay for Muslims to condemn Christians, just not the other way around.

Are the Prayers of Two or Three People More Powerful Than the Prayers of One? | Stand to Reason

In our text, Jesus is drawing a connection between church discipline and this Old Testament judicial practice. Jesus is communicating the idea that the church has authority to remove a brother on the evidence of two or three witnesses. Jesus knew that removing someone from the congregation would be a very difficult thing for any church to do, so He promises His presence in that judgment. Therefore, when using the expression “when two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them,” He is telling them that He is with them in these judicial matters. Moreover, since Jesus has given them this authority, it’s as if Jesus expelled them from the congregation Himself.

Yikes. This ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Poster Is a Mess

Yikes. Obviously, getting Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins and Isabella Moner into the same place for a photoshoot is impossible, as these are unimaginably wealthy stars who can’t just be expected to carve a little time out of their schedule to stand around getting their picture taken. Nevertheless, there must have been a better way to photoshop them into looking like they were all together. This looks like some poor intern was tasked with just cutting their pictures out of the pages of US Weekly with a pair of children’s scissors and pasting them onto a picture of Transformers with a roll of Scotch Tape.

Q & A With Dr. Craig: Objections to Belief in God

Dr. Craig: Well, it's interesting, Kevin, this really isn't an argument against the existence of God—this is an argument against having unconditional moral obligations. So this would be a problem for any ethicist who thinks that we do have unconditional moral obligations, which is what most ethicists do believe, that we have an unconditional moral obligation, for example, to treat other persons as ends in themselves, and worthy of respect rather than as means to ends. So this is an important attack upon objective ethics. And I think that it's just clearly mistaken in that a person can be unconditionally obligated to do something morally, but he has the freedom not to do it, he has the freedom to disobey. And that's all that moral freedom requires, is the ability to do immoral things. So if we have unconditional moral obligations – which I think we most certainly do, such as to worship God – nevertheless we have libertarian freedom to not live up to our unconditional moral obligations, to sin and to do wrong and to be immoral…

Is It Sin to Be Sad?

One day, perfect circumstances and perfect contentment in Christ will collide (Revelation 21:1–5). Should we work to fix this broken planet now? Absolutely. But we must also come to grips with the fact that until Jesus comes and makes all things new, at best we will often be sorrowful because of the pain on this planet, while also always rejoicing because of the perfections of our Savior (2 Corinthians 6:10). To be able to grieve deeply and rejoice relentlessly at the same time is a mark of Christian maturity.

Lay Aside the Weight of Perfection

God is calling us to the wonderfully refreshing experience of getting our eyes off ourselves and how we’re measuring up, and onto Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). He wants us to stop pursuing or being paralyzed by perfectionism so we are free to pursue love (1 Corinthians 14:1; 1 Timothy 1:5) and pursue trusting him with all our hearts (Proverbs 3:5). And if perfectionism has an inordinate influence on us, God will mercifully design circumstances to defeat our best efforts to fight sin “successfully” until we learn where our freedom really comes from.
