The Magic Wand of Evolution - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Theists such as William Lane Craig and Stephen Meyer argue by using a method that scientists and philosophers call “inference to the best explanation,” also known as the method of competing hypothesis. Briefly summarizing, this is when competing explanations are weighted and the one that best explains the relevant data is considered to be the correct one. One of the main reasons I prefer arguing for the best explanation is preciously because I believe it helps eliminate gap-type arguments. For more on inference to the best explanation, see here .

God Sacrificed Himself to Save Us from Himself? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The meme pictured at left is representative of a common sentiment expressed by the internet atheist community. Christianity is laughable because, "The idea of God sacrificing himself to himself to save us from himself is too much for any rational person to believe." Now, to be fair, when you say it like that, it does sound ridiculous. But is it? No, and I think I can illustrate why by offering another example. Before that though, I want to deconstruct the phrase to show where the rhetorical power comes from.
Jesus the poached egg?
I was talking with a friend of mine concerning Jehovah's Witness and Muslim view on the divinity of Jesus. Having discussed this with Jehovah's Witness (JW) friends of mine in the past, this one area is the central division between JW doctrine and that of other Christians (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant). You see you really can't say that Jesus of Nazareth was just a prophet or a great moral teacher if he claimed to be God. He either is or is not God. If He is not God and He claims to be, He is a lair and not to be trusted as a prophet or great moral teacher. In fact a prophet who lies should be put to death (Deu 18: 20-22).
How Can I Trust the Gospel Accounts When Some Are Missing Important Details? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The Gospel authors clearly did not testify with the same initial instructions. There was no unifying investigator present to set the framework for their testimony, so their responses vary in the same way they would vary today if the scope of their testimony was not established from the onset. Mark, according to Papias , the 1 st Century Bishop of Hierapolis, “became Peter’s interpreter and wrote accurately all that he remembered, not, indeed, in order, of the things said and done by the Lord. For he had not heard the Lord, nor had followed him, but later on, followed Peter, who used to give teaching as necessity demanded but not making, as it were, an arrangement of the Lord’s oracles, so that Mark did nothing wrong in thus writing down single points as he remembered them. For to one thing he gave attention, to leave out nothing of what he had heard and to make no false statements in them.” More concerned about accuracy of individual events than the order in which they occurred, Mark offered details like many of my witnesses who are interviewed without a unified parameter. Mark is simply recording the preaching of Peter, and Peter only referred to portions of Jesus’ life and ministry, making no effort to order them for his listeners.

Whether they were fired, threat of firing, demoted, sued, threat of suit, or publicly humiliated by the Scientific Community and/or Atheist and/or ACLU. In cases of a firing, I would much appreciate examples where a lawsuit ensued because that tends to shows the serious nature of the offense…

How economic profits relate to the creation mandate
Providentially, the field of financial accounting provides a helpful guide to measure obedience to this imperative. For example, the people who work together at Ford Motor Company utilize iron ore from deep in the ground to make steel and petroleum to form plastics. Thousands of such parts are assembled into a pickup truck. Such trucks are sold in a free market through a voluntary transaction with a willing buyer. The fact that a buyer is willing to pay money for the vehicle is evidence that the world has been subdued and the resources of the earth have been made useful for his or her purposes. Though it is not as clear as a farmer harvesting crops from a field, purchasing a truck indicates the buyer perceives it as a more useful form of creation. Therefore every productive worker who has a part in this complex operation is participating in subduing creation.

Should Christians judge the teachings of their leaders? Not only is judging permissible, it is our responsibility. Nobody’s teachings are above sound judgment—especially those of influential leaders! Biblically, authority and accountability go hand in hand (cf. Luke 12:48). The greater the responsibility one holds, the greater the accountability (cf. James 3:1). First, the precedent for […]

Much to the dismay of the Vatican , an approx. 1500-2000 year old bible was found in Turkey, in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara. Discovered and kept secret in the year 2000, the book contains the Gospel of Barnabas – a disciple of Christ – which shows that Jesus was not crucified, nor was he the son of God, but a Prophet. The book also calls Apostle Paul “The Impostor”. The book also claims that Jesus ascended to heaven alive, and that Judas Iscariot was crucified in his place.

Third, Christians of all income levels should give. If you don’t give when you have little, you won’t necessarily give when you’re prosperous. You might give a larger amount, but not a greater proportion. Jesus’ parable of the unrighteous steward teaches, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much” (Luke 16:10). God is concerned not with how much you have to give, but with how much love is behind the gift.

Moralism is Not the Gospel (But Many Christians Think it Is)
We sin against Christ and we misrepresent the Gospel when we suggest to sinners that what God demands of them is moral improvement in accordance with the Law. Moralism makes sense to sinners, for it is but an expansion of what we have been taught from our earliest days. But moralism is not the Gospel, and it will not save. The only gospel that saves is the Gospel of Christ. As Paul reminded the Galatians, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” [Gal. 4:4-5]

If your church or denomination offers any type of specialized training in a subject, then take all of those classes that you can. Of course you could find a seminary to attend so that you could earn a degree in the doctrines of the Bible, but classes that your church or pastor offer locally can give you much of the same information without the demands of a degree. There are online Bible study classes you can take which will give you more information on a subject.

J-term courses are intensive classes offered at the SBTS main campus in Louisville. These classes meet in either one or two week blocks during the seminary’s winter and summer breaks. These classes count toward on-campus degree requirements.
Is a Beginningless Past Actually Infinite? | Reasonable Faith
Strictly speaking, I wouldn’t say, as you put it, that a “beginningless causal chain would be (or form) an actually infinite set.” Sets, if they exist, are abstract objects and so should not be identified with the series of events in time. Using what I would regard as the useful fiction of a set, I suppose we could say that the set of past events is an infinite set if the series of past events is beginningless. But I prefer simply to say that if the temporal series of events is beginningless, then the number of past events is infinite or that there has occurred an infinite number of past events.

4 Questions to Ask Before You Even Think About Getting Married
Something to consider before writing yet another article telling people what they should or shouldn't do regarding marriage: Not knowing what is right or wrong is not the problem. Most of the time, people know what the right thing to do is. The problem is, they're either too wounded to do the right thing or they just don't care. Have the compassion to ask yourself these questions: Why are they hurting? Why are they so hungry for love that they're willing to take serious risks with their marriage? Or, simply, why don't they care? Address these root issues first and help bring some clarity to these questions in people's lives. If you do that, you may just find that people begin to naturally make the healthy choices without someone throwing more do's and dont's in their face. More often than not, knowledge is not the issue. It's the need for healing and compassion.
The Case for Christ - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Skeptics around the world claim that Jesus either never said He was God or He never exemplified the activities and mindset of God. Either way they rather triumphantly proclaim that Jesus was just a man. Some will go so far as to suggest that He was a very moral and special man, but a man nonetheless. Well, Lee Strobel was just such a skeptic. For Strobel, there was far too much evidence against the idea of God, let alone the possibility that God became a man. God was just mythology, superstition, or wishful thinking.
Is religion REALLY the number one cause of war? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
I have had two different people on Facebook tell me that they believe religion is the cause of most wars. One friend of mine said “Wars start because of religion and land correct? Tell me a war that didn’t have religion involved?” while another commented, “Which has killed more people, Jon? The Bible or guns?” These types of questions often stump many Christians because the assumption that religion is at the root of most of the major conflicts throughout human history is one that is ingrained in our society. It’s easy to understand why this assumption gains so much traction, especially in light of the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and the current unrest in the Middle East. But is this assumption correct? How can a Christian respond?
How Can We Know Something Can’t Come from Nothing if We’ve Never Experienced Nothing? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Theists often use the basic metaphysical principle that something only comes from something as evidence for God ’s existence. We reason that if the universe (something) came into being, then it must have been caused to come into being by something else – it could not have simply materialized out of nothing without a cause because out of nothing, nothing comes. The something that brought the universe into being must itself be immaterial, spaceless, and eternal, which are some of the basic properties of a theistic being.
New Atheism and its Challenge to Prove the Existence of God - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
“Many of the attributes associated with the Judaic-Christian-Islamic God have specific consequences that can be tested empirically [scientifically]. Such a God is supposed to play a central role in the operation of the universe and the lives of humans. As a result, evidence for him should be readily detectable by scientific means. If a properly conducted experiment were to come up with an observation that cannot be explained by natural means, then science would have to take seriously the possibility of a world beyond matter.”

If Christians could be trained to to provide solid evidence… - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
If Christians could be trained to to provide solid evidence for what they believe and good answers to unbelievers’ questions and objections, then the perception of Christians would slowly change. Christians would be seen as thoughtful people to be taken seriously rather than as emotional fanatics of buffoons. The gospel would be a real alternative for people to embrace.
The Biblical Literacy of Teenage Believers - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
As a result, Barry Shafer says, “The church today, including both the adult and teenage generations, is in an era of rampant biblical illiteracy.” Duffy Robbins takes this one step further when he says: “Our young people have become incapable of theological thinking because they don’t have any theology to think about. … And, as Paul warns us, this … leaves us as ‘infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching’ (Ephesians 4:14).”

Who Are the Sons of God and Daughters of Men in Genesis 6:1-5? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
When we remember that we have been rescued from a fate worse than death and we are always running headlong into future grace, maternal anxiety gets put in its place. Even though situations arise where anxiety seems like the only available option because you can’t understand what God is doing, by faith you can believe that he is always acting in accordance with his redeeming love. The worries that lurch your heart back and forth like a rocking chair lose their momentum in the face of this wondrous truth. In Christ, a mother’s heart can rest. “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

Belief unto death. All for a lie? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The establishment and spread of the Christian faith is unique among all religions in that both rest on a historical event (the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ) witnessed firsthand, unwavering belief that what was witnessed actually happened (i.e., what happened was a true state of affairs in reality), and the resolve to share this conviction in the face of adversity up to and including death. So, with these points in focus, would the apostles have been persecuted even unto death for something they knew they did not actually witness or was, in fact, untrue? Before looking at this issue, there are a few objections which need to be cleared up in order to move on.
God Does Exist: Applied Apologetics: Belief in God and Reason
The Laws of Logic: Laws of
thought and reason that are immaterial, aspatial, atemporal, universal,
obligatory, necessary, immutable, and absolute. Some academics identify them as
the laws of thought, the laws of truth, or the laws of reason. Various scholars
strongly prefer to name them the laws of logic because they are independent of
human minds and are ubiquitous throughout all experience. All rational thinking
(and communication) presupposes and uses the laws of logic. The Law of Identity
(LOI) is A=A. The most well-known law is the Law of Non-contradiction (LNC): A
cannot be A and Non-A at the same time in the same way (A~~A). A man cannot be
his own father. The laws of logic “are basic principles of reasoning” (Frame:
CVT). The laws of logic reflect the nature and mind of the God of the Bible;
thus, they have ontological grounding—that is, they are grounded in the very
nature of truth itself and cannot be reduced to human convention, opinion or
psychology. Without these laws, knowledge and rational thinking are impossible.
To deny the laws of logic, one must use these laws in one’s attempt to deny
The "Whatever" Objection and the Passivity Problem - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Armed with a master’s degree in apologetics I felt like I could conquer the world. Bring on the most ardent atheist and I'd be ready. My training prepared me to launch informed arguments and counter the toughest objections. To my surprise, the biggest challenger however wasn't the outspoken critic but the one who spoke the least - the passive skeptic who just didn't care. I quickly learned that the word no passionate apologist wants to hear is "Whatever."

“One last analogy. Let’s say this was 50 years ago, and when I saw you, you were chain smoking cigarettes with your kids always nearby. I know where medical science is headed, so I tell you that you are hurting yourself, and your kids. You respond that no one can really know those things; after all, you can point to doctors who advertise cigarettes and smoke them themselves, and you feel fine when you smoke. I point to other doctors who think that its really bad for you. You respond, ‘see, it’s a tie, so stop bothering me. Each believes what they were raised to believe. Plus, other things can kill me too, so why should I worry about cigarettes? Or, maybe you say that even if I am right, you’ll be one of the lucky ones who won’t be hurt by it…

Israeli Archaeologist Says He Has Found King David's Legendary Citadel
The claim by Eli Shukron, like many such claims in the field of biblical archaeology, has run into criticism. It joins a string of announcements by Israeli archaeologists saying they have unearthed palaces of the legendary biblical king, who is revered in Jewish religious tradition for establishing Jerusalem as its central holy city — but who has long eluded historians looking for clear-cut evidence of his existence and reign.
Exclusivity and Arrogance - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The heart of this argument is that someone who is claiming Jesus is the only way is arrogant, and therefore, you can discount their claim. However, put this way, this argument clearly holds no water. Just because someone is arrogant is absolutely no reason to consider their claim to be false. I could be the most arrogant person in the world, but I could also be completely right about things. There are probably plenty of really arrogant professors out there who know their own field of research really, really well. The fact that they are arrogant does nothing to discredit the truth of what they say…

Why Elder Subscription Is a Good Idea
At first glance, there is something attractive about only requiring pastors to subscribe to one’s confessional standards. Even the staunchest Presbyterian and Reformed folks can likely think of gifted, devout, theologically minded, pastorally sensitive brothers who–though a bit squishy on all five points of Calvinism and not really convinced of infant baptism–have proven to be faithful servants and effective in ministry. It’s easy to picture dear friends and think, “I know he’s not all the way Reformed, but he really could be a great addition to our elder board.” I’m sympathetic with this inclination, not least of all because I can see many wonderful Christian friends and terrific church members in that picture. As a pastor, I’d rather tell visitors how inclusive we are as opposed to disappointing good people who have a genuine desire to use their gifts in leadership in the church.

Instead of responding to these attacks with a vigorous intellectual counterpunch, many believers grew suspicious of intellectual issues altogether. Isn’t apologetics only for academics and intellectuals? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Here's a common objection you may have encountered: Isn’t apologetics only for academics and intellectuals? The short answer is no. Here’s why. Everyone has questions—you do, your kids do, your friends and neighbors do, your family does, and our culture certainly does. It’s that simple. We will either think carefully or poorly about these questions, but the questions themselves cannot be avoided. Secondly, if Christianity is true, then it speaks to all of life. It doesn't get more 'everyday' than that ( 1 Pet. 3:15 ). - Jonathan Morrow (original post here)
Renewing Your Mind | How to Deal with Anxiety | May 7, 2014
What causes you anxiety and unrest? The thought of harm coming to your child? A stock market crash? Death? Many people have fears and phobias that can be diagnosed and dealt with. Others do not know the source of their anxiety, they simply know that nearly every aspect of life includes some inner turmoil. So how can we rid ourselves of these crippling weaknesses? In this message, Dr. Sproul gives insight into the different types of anxiety, and explains how to deal with them.
