Seven Pounds, a Great Day

You may have heard the phrase, "Coincidence isn't a Kosher word." I believe that know more and more. You see the day I had to day goes beyond any mathematical probabilities and the entire day, almost every part of it reflects how great today was. You may be wondering if I won the lottery. Sorry, not the lottery, actually it was something far more valuable and meaningful. In order for you to understand, the gravity of how great today was I have to give you some background. I hope that you too can see just how great a day today was!

Libertarian blogger endorses Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in 2016

1. Competence matters as much as ideology. I remember when Democrats enthusiastically elected a charismatic, ideological liberal with almost no real experience running anything. He then proceeded to screw up one of the most important left-wing issues so badly that Democrats barely even want to say the word “healthcare” anymore, let alone make you extravagant promises about it. Obama’s self-defeating hubris is the only reason we have a chance in 2016. If Obamacare had been a smartly devised system of creeping bribes like Medicare was, the fight would be over. Ideologically, I like Rand Paul, but I have simply no reason whatsoever to believe he would be a competent executive. He’s a risky unknown, and the Presidency is too important. If he turns out to be incompetent, four years of an incompetent executive ensures the liberty movement will be finished for years as a voice in the Republican Party and in American politics as a whole. Scott Walker’s proven he can establish the kind of record that makes limited government more popular, not less. We’re not talking about Chris Christie’s progressive Republicanism.

J.R.R. Tolkien Reveals TRUE Meaning Of 'The Lord Of The Rings' In Unearthed Audio Recording

Over 20 years ago, a lost recording of J.R.R. Tolkien was discovered in a basement in Rotterdam, but the man who found it kept this important reel-to-reel tape hidden away. Until recently, only he had heard the recording. But now, I am one of those lucky Middle-earth lovers who has listened to this magical magnetic tape, and I happily declare that it is awesome. For it proves once and for all that Professor Tolkien was, in fact, very much the hobbit that we all suspected him to be. What's more, we get to hear Tolkien reading a lost poem in the Elven tongue which he translates into English. And to top it off, he states in unambiguous terms (cue Rohirrim war trumpets) the real meaning of The Lord of the Rings !

He explained, “pundits and policy makers don't talk about the veterans' system because they can't handle the cognitive dissonance. ... For the lesson of the V.H.A.'s success story -- that a government agency can deliver better care at lower cost than the private sector -- runs completely counter to the pro-privatization, anti-government conventional wisdom that dominates today's Washington.”

The Gospel Coalition - Should I Be Content with My Singleness?

As a single Christian living by God’s commands, I do not have a sex life. While most of us don’t view this abstinence as a fast, we should. By God’s grace, I will fast from sex until he brings me a bridegroom. I will also fast from a lot of other comforts that come with marriage (along with the attendant trials). And if I die without breaking this fast, I will die in the company of the faithful ones described in Hebrews 11, of whom we read, “And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect” (Hebrews 11:39-40).

Grace to You

Yes, to pray for God’s will to be done on earth, we must first make sure it is being done in us. What are some aspects of God’s will that are going unheeded in your own heart, even though they are far from mysterious, very clearly laid out in Scripture? Make this your prayer today—that His will would be done in you.

Are You Called?

These days, many persons think of careers rather than callings. The biblical challenge to “consider your call” should be extended from the call to salvation to the call to the ministry. John Newton, famous for writing “Amazing Grace,” once remarked that “None but He who made the world can make a Minister of the Gospel.” Only God can call a true minister, and only he can grant the minister the gifts necessary for service. But the great promise of Scripture is that God does call ministers, and presents these servants as gifts to the Church. One key issue here is a common misunderstanding about the will of God. Some models of evangelical piety imply that God’s will is something difficult for us to accept. We sometimes confuse this further by talking about “surrendering” to the will of God. As Paul makes clear in Romans 12:2, the will of God is good, worthy of eager acceptance, and perfect. Those called by God to preach will be given a desire to preach as well as the gifts of preaching. Beyond this, the God-called preacher will feel the same compulsion as the great Apostle, who said, “W

The Gospel Coalition - The Child of the Future

The Gospel Coalition is a fellowship of evangelical churches deeply committed to renewing our faith in the gospel of Christ and to reforming our ministry practices to conform fully to the Scriptures.  We yearn to work with all who, in addition to embracing our confession and theological vision for ministry, seek the lordship of Christ over  the whole of life with unabashed hope in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform individuals, communities, and cultures.

The Gospel Coalition - How Should Pastors Address Divorce and Remarriage?

Secondly, he has got to preach about this: To stand up and say this is what the scripture says about divorce and about remarriage so that he can not only prevent some people by the power of God’s Holy Spirit from divorcing, but also so that he can give people who have divorced and perhaps have remarried unbiblically the opportunity to have the liberating power of repentance. If you don’t address it—and what we think is I don’t want to address this issue because I have people who are in this situation, and I don’t want to hurt them. So I am not going to address it because I am going to bring up something. The only way that the scripture gives us to actually be free of something is to confess it, to repent of it, and to reconcile. So if you don’t address it, all you are doing is leaving people under the condemnation of their own consciences or perhaps the accusation of Satan. You have to give people the ability to say what must we do now and then to be able to walk them through that.

God's Not Dead: Without God Ascending Evolution Seems Impossible

Unguided evolution appears impossible. Non-directed evolution is not just implausible; the theory seems impossible. Biologically sturdy ants and their descendants would not evolve into the top-ten list of endangered species, like a great ape. Strong and resilient bacteria would not evolve into a weak and easily extinct Dodo bird. The so called lower species are usually the ones that are the strongest and most fit to survive. If reproducing, the strongest and greatest number of offspring, is an important means of specie preservation, then the ant and the rat are a couple of the “highest” species.

War on Boys - Prager University

Course Description What ever happened to letting "boys be boys?" Take these two cases: In one, a seven-year-old boy was sent home for nibbling a Pop Tart into a gun. In another, a teacher was so alarmed by a picture drawn by a student (of a sword fight), that the boy's parents were summoned in for a conference. In short, boys in America's schools are routinely punished for being active, competitive, and restless. In other words, boys can no longer be boys. Christina Hoff Sommers, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, explains how we can change this.

21 The Death of Words - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Language flows out from God. The world was brought into existence by divine fiat through the spoken word of God.  The Genesis account repeatedly says, “Then God said.” Whatever God spoke came springing into existence. John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Later, the Word, the second member of the Trinity, would become flesh and walk among us. The Good News itself is communicated to us through language. Words are the vehicle for understanding and communicating truth.

God's Answer to Man's Problem of Pain and Suffering - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

The Jewish Holocaust . As a young teenager, Elie Wiesel was a faithful, God-fearing Jew. But, as he and his family, along with his fellow Jews, were deported from their homes and brought to Auschwitz in 1945 his life took a drastic turn for the worst. On his first night in the death camp, he came face to face with utter evil…yet God remained silent, and he turned away from God. “For the first time, I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless His name? The Eternal, Lord of the Universe, the All-Powerful and Terrible, was silent. What had I to thank Him for?”[2] Wiesel understandably walked away from God, and never looked back.

24 Abortion: It Is Her Body, It Is Her Choice? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

As a materialist, I think it has been demonstrated that an embryo is a separate body and entity, and not merely (as some really did used to argue) a growth on or in the female body. There used to be feminists who would say that it was more like an appendix or even—this was seriously maintained—a tumor. That nonsense seems to have stopped (Hitchens 2009, 378)

25 The Big Thing About the Big Bang - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

I’ve had the privilege and honor of speaking at churches all over the country; and many have asked me to talk about the evidence for God’s existence. As part of this investigation, I invariably discuss the value of Big Bang Cosmology; but I do so with great respect for each group I address. You see, many of us, as Christians, are wary of the Big Bang because we connect it to a larger naturalistic paradigm. Some of us associate Big Bang Cosmology with the secular effort to account for the origin of the universe without the need for a Creator. Our pastors and Sunday School teachers have warned us about the Big Bang, and as a result, many of us are dismissive of the concept before we even examine what it proposes. But the most important aspect of the Big Bang is actually a key evidence for God’s existence. Big Bang Cosmology proposes that everything in the universe came from nothing at a fixed point in the distant past. This point of origin (a cosmological singularity) is entirely consistent with the Christian view of God’s creation as described in Genesis 1; the proposal that “everything came from nothing” is yet another evidence for God’s existence.

Luther and the Reformation

Centuries after his death, Martin Luther is celebrated as an intellectual giant, a brave opponent of corruption, a shaper of culture, indeed, as one of the most significant figures in Western history. Many people, however, are unaware of the events of Luther’s life that led him to make a courageous stand for the gospel in the sixteenth century. In this series, R.C. Sproul provides a thorough introduction to the life and thought of Martin Luther. With an eye to the lessons we can learn today, Dr. Sproul traces the major events of Luther’s life and explores the gospel recovered by Luther and the other Protestant Reformers.

27 Killing of the Canaanites: What Does This Say About God? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

There is no denying that God, in the Old Testament, commanded the nation of Israel, His chosen people, to exterminate many nations of people. Atheists use this fact to condemn the character of God. They say they refuse to believe in any being that could be so cruel and heartless. The passages that record God’s command to slaughter the Canaanite cities have even caused many Christians some confusion. I probably will not answer every question in this short article, and even some of the answers I give will not satisfy everyone, but I do hope to present a solid biblical argument for the goodness, holiness, love , and justice of our Creator God.

Gigg.com Tournament -- Jackson vs. Come and Get It -- vote for the winner

musicguru - let me answer your question... Show Ponies fans listen to their music a lot of different places... most of which are not on youtube. I think the fact that the Show Ponies fan base has kept them in this race despite the fact that we clearly don't have the social media reach that a lot of the other contestants have had says a lot for their talent and following. They are an awesome group and they deserve every vote they get. I'm certain Alexi does as well. You are obviously very talented Alexi, ESPECIALLY for a 16 year old! I'm not sure what "aggressive fans" you are worried about, but PLEASE don't let internet morons get to you. I have no doubt you have many well-deserved good things in store for you for many years to come! Possibly even this contest! It isn't over yet after all!!!

29 The Kalam, the Multiverse, and the Causal Principle - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Now most people do not deny (2) (although it is the case that assuredly many do). Instead they opt to deny (1). A particular way of doing so is to posit the multiverse. They reason, “Since the causal principle is based on induction of what we have seen in our universe, perhaps it is the case that there is a multiverse. Whether the causal principle holds in the multiverse, then, cannot be told--for we have not seen any other part of it than our own. Hence, we cannot claim the causal principle as true.” Now, aside from the fact that, all too often, this kind of move is done as a desperate ploy to avoid a First Cause as much as anything else, we may say something else about it.

The Problem of Evil and God's Moral Character - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Criticisms over the last decade have been raging in the media from the particularly atheistic side of literature in regards to the moral atrocities caused in the name of religion. A true hallmark of criticism would soon result in a loud secular battle cry from the September 11 attacks when the two twin towers fell due to an act of extreme political and religious terrorism. As R.C. Sproul rightly accounts in his book, ‘ When Worlds Collide’ (2002):

31 Margaret Sanger Seems Pretty Nice - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

“[Charity] conceals a stupid cruelty, because it is not courageous enough to face unpleasant facts…It encourages the healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight of human waste. Instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate the stocks that are most detrimental to the future of the race and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant.”

32 Comparing Evolution to Empirical Observations Such as Gravity - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

In evolutionary thought there is a stark contrast between its scientific ambiguity and its metaphysical certainty. There are all kinds of problems in explaining how the world could have arisen on its own, and yet at the same time evolutionists constantly assure us that evolution is a scientific fact. For example, while Philip Ball urges his fellow evolutionists to admit that we don’t fully understand how evolution works at the molecular level he simultaneously presents the idea as a fact and bemoans those who doubt this new truth.

33 Is the Bible reliable? From "The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict" - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Chapter 3 begins with data regarding the amount of cohesive hand-copied manuscripts of the Bible, particularly The New Testament, that have been found. According to a chart on page 38, earliest (partial or whole) New Testament manuscripts found date between 114 and 325 A.D. McDowell refers to Sir Frederic Kenyon who states that when it comes to ancient manuscripts, “In no other case is the interval of time between the composition of the book and the date of the earliest extant manuscripts so short as in that of the New Testament.”[1]

Tullian Tchividjian on Tim Keller, DA Carson's Gospel Coalition Statement About His Exit: 'A Flat-Out Lie'

Peays offered to explain what transpired during the Florida meeting, commenting to CP on Friday, "The reason I went to Florida was to help Tullian, as a friend, with forming his new organization. While we were there he told me he wanted to move his blog away from TGC. I agreed this was a good idea knowing the various tensions within the Council regarding his blog. I spent the next day with his staff connecting them with a designer and developer to help with his new site. The decision to leave the TGC platform was Tullian's, but the timing of his exit was the Council's on account of, as Tim and Don indicated, the 'doctrinal and probably even more matters of pastoral practice and wisdom. Recently it became clear that the dispute was becoming increasingly sharp and divisive rather than moving toward greater unity.' It should also be noted that the issues surrounding SGM were never mentioned once in any of the Council discussions regarding Tullian."

37 Filling in the Gaps - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Many skeptics of theism accuse theists of "god-of-the-gaps" argumentation when it comes to providing evidence for God's existence. Many theists claim that naturalists are guilty of using a "naturalism-of-the-gaps" argumentation to explain away evidence for God's existence. Others prefer to remain agnostic and simply, "I don't know, one way or the other." Yet, still others will say, "No one can know."

Among my toughest audiences in apologetics are undoubtedly my two little boys. From the time words started forming on their lips, questions of various kinds have been a staple around our home—the most formidable one being, “Why, daddy?” More than any other of our appetites, I strongly suspect that thirst for knowledge and the occasional thrill of discovery have played the greatest role in shaping history. From the vast machinery of the news media to the intricate systems of the educational enterprise, from specialized research institutions to the multifaceted world of religious devotion, human hunger for knowledge is the oil that greases the mill of civilization.

40 A Good Reason for Evil - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

The first step in answering the problem of evil is this: We've got to get clear on what this thing "evil" actually is. It does seem to follow that if God created all things, and evil is a thing, then God created evil. This is a valid syllogism. If the premises are true, then the conclusion would be true as well.

42 Josh McDowell on Defending the Bible - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

To say that Josh McDowell is passionate about the truths of Scripture is a gross understatement. Defending the Christian faith through an examination of "the evidence" has been the primary focus of his ministry for forty-plus years. From churches to universities, in the U.S.. and overseas, McDowell engages skeptics and seekers alike, ready with strong, researched responses to the most difficult questions. McDowell admits that he has entertained so many questions that he is not often surprised. "I can't think of a new question I've heard in ages. Probably one out of fifty questions takes a new or different slant. Most people have the same questions because they're influenced by the same people's opinions." Whether in a recent popular novel, or in a philosophy class, they often begin by saying, "I heard somebody say," or "I read in a book that," and a familiar dialogue ensues.

43 How Do the Bible and Philosophy Interact? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

Philosophy has been called by one Christian philosopher “the skill of thinking really hard.” The ancients thought of philosophy as the love of wisdom. Surely, if you are a Christian, you are not opposed to thinking really hard or the love of wisdom, but just how does philosophy practically interact with the Bible? To the person who says, “I don’t need philosophy; all I need is the Bible,” what can be said in response?

The Gospel Coalition - Is Your Busy Season Becoming a Lifetime?

From a single woman to a grandmother, different stages of life will certainly mean that Paul's exhortation will be uniquely walked out as we love others, point them to Christ, and serve one another. However, my concern is that in our frantic race for a perfectly lovely and carefully crafted childhood, we opt out and grab the "busy season" card over and over as the years fly by. And our "busy season" turns into a lifetime.

Is Christ Worth It?

The call of Jesus is not just a call to suffering and self–denial; it is first a call to a banquet. This is the point of the parable in Luke 14:16–24. Jesus also promises a glorious resurrection where all the losses of this life will be repaid (Luke 14:14). He also tells us that he will help us endure the hardships (Luke 22:32). He also tells us he will give us the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). He promises that even if we are killed for the kingdom, “not a hair of your head will perish” (Luke 21:18).
