Did Jesus Really Exist?
"No, he didn't!" some skeptics claim, thinking that this is a quick, powerful lever with which to pry people away from "the fable of Christianity." But the lever crumbles at its very first use. In fact, there is more evidence that Jesus of Nazareth certainly lived than for most famous figures of the ancient past. This evidence is of two kinds: internal and external, or, if you will, sacred and secular. In both cases, the total evidence is so overpowering, so absolute that only the shallowest of intellects would dare to deny Jesus' existence. And yet this pathetic denial is still parroted by "the village atheist," bloggers on the internet, or such organizations as the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

3 Reasons to Give up Apologetics
The first time I approached a church about teaching apologetics, I received an all too common response from the pastor: “We teach the Bible, we don’t need that.” As I listened to his sermon, I couldn’t help but see the irony in his appeals to missionary work. He said, “They will know you by your fruits”, a clear message from Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount. So the pastor wanted his congregation to go out and win hearts and minds for Christ… without providing any reasons!? Apologetics is clearly a piece of the endeavor but putting the term ‘apologetics’ on the mission appears to complicate the ask.

Do Both Science and Christianity Require Faith?
Clearly, then, both religion and science are founded on faith—namely, on belief in the existence of something outside the universe, like an unexplained God or an unexplained set of physical laws, maybe even a huge ensemble of unseen universes, too. For that reason, both monotheistic religion and orthodox science fail to provide a complete account of physical existence.

Why Christian Theology Needs (Former) Atheists
Walter Hooper, C. S. Lewis’s personal secretary, once commented to the great Christian writer about a clever inscription engraved on an atheist’s tombstone: “Here lies an atheist. All dressed up with no place to go.” Not bemused, Lewis quipped: “That atheist probably wishes now that were true.”

Determinism's Self-Destruct Button
“The problem with [determinism] is that without freedom, rationality would have no room to operate. Arguments would not matter, since no one would be able to base beliefs on adequate reasons. One could never judge between a good idea and a bad one. One would only hold beliefs because he had been predetermined to do so. . . . Although it is theoretically possible that determinism is true — there is no internal contradiction, as far as I can tell — no one could ever know it if it were. Every one of our thoughts, dispositions, and opinions would have been decided for us by factors completely out of our control. Therefore, in practice, arguments for determinism are self-defeating.” (Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions, 128-29).

The Courage of an American Pastor
Being the pastor of a parish requires courage, but the nature of that courage is going to differ depending on where that parish is in the world.
In many parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, courage is a stark matter of risking death to celebrate Mass and to stand up with your flock. This is the courage of the martyrs, willing to shed blood just for wearing a collar and saying ‘yes’ to the question, “are you a follower of Jesus?” May God give these pastors the strength and protection they need to have that courage.
In other places, including certain parts of the United States, it takes courage for a pastor to publicly adhere to the teachings of the Bible and the Church. Pastors today run the risk of being slandered, mocked, shunned, and even persecuted by those who believe that Jesus is not only irrelevant, but offensive. May God give them the strength and protection they need to have that courage.
But there is another kind of courage that a pastor must have daily that is often overlooked and unappreciated, one that seems almost insignificant compared to the examples above.

A Case for the Bible 101: Manuscript Evidence Part 1, A Few Important Facts
If you put 10 people in a room and gave them a subject to write about what would you expect the outcome to be? Would you expect them to have the same theme, ideas, storyline, and conclusions? Would they have the same personal beliefs and views on the topic and write with the same convictions? The odds fall strongly in favor of no, but that is not what we see in the Bible:

God Is Working in Your Waiting
Most parents would agree that their children don’t want to wait for anything. The last thing kids want to hear is Mom say, “Not now.” It can prompt anger, frustration, even hopelessness. This “dis-ease” of waiting follows most of us into our adult years. We may not respond with the same emotional outbursts as children, but most of us still hate waiting for what we want.

God, Patience, and Creation
In the beginning God created the heavens and earth. In the beginning God created the universe. In the beginning God created time, space and matter. In the beginning God created time…the second, the 60 second minute, the 60 minute hour and the 24 hour day. Genesis denotes each day with an evening and morning which is used for 24 hour days. The 3rd day He brought forth vegetation. That day also had an evening and morning. How exactly did that vegetation survive the lightless evening that was millions of years long? He didn’t create the sun and moon until the 4th day. Did God not know how long it would take the moon to orbit the earth? Of course He did…one 24 hour day, the very day He created when He created time itself. And how long for earth to orbit the sun? Just as he designed it…a collection of 365 24 hour days each consisting of 60 60 second minutes just as he created them. Then there is Jesus, who did the actual work (see John 1:1 following) who said “Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’”.

Increasingly, Western culture embraces confusion as a virtue and decries certainty as a sin. Those who are confused about sexuality and identity are viewed as heroes. Those who are confused about morality are progressive pioneers. Those who are confused about spirituality are praised as tolerant. Conversely, those who express certainty about any of these issues are seen as bigoted, oppressive, arrogant, or intolerant.
This cultural phenomenon led the compilers of the Oxford English Dictionary to name "post-truth" their word of the year in 2016. How can Christians offer truth and clarity to a world that shuns both?
Frank interviews author and speaker Abdu Murray about his brand new book "Saving Truth" where he answers this question and more.

What Is Love?
One last thing. If it sounds contradictory to say that the heart of God’s love is benevolence toward unworthy people like us and yet the ultimate goal of human life is complacency in God, which I think it is, I don’t think that is really a contradiction. And the reason it is not is because the ultimate aim of God’s benevolence toward us is to give us complacency in himself. So, the love of benevolence ultimately serves in us the love of complacency in God.

Jesus doesn’t say he’s a good way or a nice way or even the best way. He says, “I’m it.” If there were a plan B, God wouldn’t have sent Jesus — his plan A — to Earth to die for you. So if you’re going to be saved and have all your sins forgiven, there’s only one way it will happen, and there’s only one person you can call on: Jesus.

How to Love When You Don’t Feel It
As the Christian villagers grabbed their pitchforks, it became more and more apparent that, in their eyes, Lewis had transgressed the law of self-actualization: the law of being the true you. Psychology has indoctrinated our generation to think that self-expression is the highest good. If you don’t feel it, it isn’t authentic, and thus not real. This, combined with the definition that love is almost exclusively a warm feeling found deep within us, makes the notion that one should act loving despite not feeling it to be oppressive and a contaminate of love.

Results Are Not Your Responsibility
Two years ago, my husband and I walked through the painful process of dissolving a church.
I remember the last service in vivid detail: where families were sitting for worship, what music was playing, and the demeanor of my husband, the lead pastor. He was sitting in the second row, shoulders slumped, head lowered, feeling the weight of the congregation’s unmet expectations. The church replant we had been a part of for five years was over.
Though we had striven to be faithful, a closed church was the result.
God Gives Growth
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul stresses that growth is determined by God alone. The congregation was dividing over which leader must be better, in light of the success granted to each. So Paul wrote:
What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered , but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. (1 Cor. 3:5–7)
Paul encourages the congregation to recognize their unity. He and Apollos serve; God alone grows.
