On This Day in 1926: The Scandalous Disappearance of Preacher Aimee Semple McPherson

What if I told you that one of the most famous fundamentalist preachers of the 1920s and 30s was not a man but a woman, and not just any woman, but one who went through two divorces and who became something of a sex symbol? Here's the story of her scandalous disappearance on this day in 1926.

Christians Should Talk About Feminism More

We need our girls and women to be people who are thriving and alive. I want my daughters to be confident and joyful young women. I don’t think this is too much to ask or expect. In the words of Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” I believe we are living in a time where for too long we have chosen to do nothing. No ruffling of feathers or making of waves. But sometimes waves need to be made and feathers need to be ruffled. Sitting politely and quietly will only get us more of the same result, and that is not acceptable. Let’s beat drums and yell loudly so the generations to come know that they were fought for, so they know they are loved and valued and worth every moment of that fight.

The Most Valuable Aim of Apologetics

Exodus 3 narrates the well-known account of God’s revealing Himself to Moses in the burning bush and commissioning him to tell Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. But that was only part of Moses’ mission. The other task to which the Lord called Moses was to address the Israelites. He was to command the Israelites in the name of God to engage in the largest strike in history. In absolute defiance of the power and authority of Pharaoh, they were to leave Egypt and go out to the desert to worship God at His mountain. And, of course, these events ended in the exodus.

Torn Emotions: A Visit With Nabeel Qureshi | RZIM

My dearest Nabeel, I love you, dear friend, and my heart aches to see you leaving this world so soon. But if it is of any comfort, you have so far lived the same number of years as our Lord and Redeemer. What is more, the world is a mess. We are still trapped by the fears of living in a world immersed in hate and living for matter, greed, pride, and violence. You will be freed to the joy of life where there are no more fears, no more tears, no more hate, no more bloodshed, because you will be with the One who has already shed his blood for you, where love is supreme, grace abounds, and the consummate joy is of the soul. The smile of God awaits you: “Well done.”

14 Are All Religions True?

Books - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

Correct, Not Politically Correct: How Same Sex Marriage Hurts Everyone Why not legalize same-sex marriage? Who could it possibly hurt? Using sound reasoning and evidence—not religion—award-winning author Frank Turek shows that everyone will be hurt including children, the nation, and even homosexuals themselves. Turek provides concise answers to objections about equal rights, discrimination, and being born a certain way, and he exposes the real reason gay activists are trying to impose same-sex marriage on the country without a single vote from the people. Turek’s message is direct but respectful. It is correct, not politically correct. And it is a message that we must not ignore. For details, see .

Is the Christian Worldview Logical?

Many people have the impression that Christians live in two “worlds”—the world of faith and the world of reason. The world of faith is the realm that Christians live in on Sunday morning, or the world to which they refer when asked about spiritual or moral matters. However, it would seem that Christians live in the world of reason throughout the rest of the week, when dealing with practical, everyday matters. After all, do we really need to believe in the Bible to put gasoline in the car, or to balance our checkbook?

Weak Moms, Strong God

Each mother carries her own unique fears, anxieties, and struggles, but we all desire to be the mom that our children need, don’t we? These burdens and fears will either consume us and create perpetual anxiety within us or, by God’s grace, they will lead us to the one who is not only in control, but knows exactly what our children need — and loves them more than we ever could.

5 Myths about Teaching Apologetics to Students

Training students in apologetics is one of the most important tasks for any youth leader today. Whether through classroom teaching, speaking, personal conversation, on apologetics mission trips, or through writing, I have been training students to defend their faith for nearly two decades. While there are certainly some exceptions, in my experience, the vast majority love it .

How Selflessness Points Most Reasonably to the Christian God | Cold Case Christianity

Why do we value selflessness when such behavior typically results in decreased survivability? Because we have been created in the image of God. Not just any God, but the one God who can truly account for selflessness. Selflessness points most reasonably to the Christian God of the Bible.

Why the Historical Jesus is the Best Starting Place for Apologetics

In its simplest form, this argument is claiming that Jesus was a real man, and was not a myth as some atheists claim.  This claim is often paired with the claim that the Jesus of the Bible and the Jesus of history are the same person, not just in reference but in fact, historicity, and substance.  The more substantive form of the argument aims to eventually bring the unbeliever to a point of belief in the Christian faith.  The progression I recommend is as follows:

Apologetics and the 80/20 Rule

What transpired was a deeper journey into apologetics and many hours spent learning (and continuing to learn) a defence for the Christian faith. Was I the only one in this predicament? Had everyone at church secretly known about the study of apologetics all along and I was somehow left out? I think not. I think my story is similar to what happens to many Christians today when they discover that apologetics even exists.

7 tips for beginning seminary later in life — Southern Equip

Much of seminary is reading. I’ve never read so much in my life as over the past five years. You’ll read things that will stretch your mind and your comprehension. It will be good for you, for your ministry, and for your life. But you will have to be intentional about finding time to read. I found it easy to fit reading into the margins of my life. I always carry a book with me. A few minutes in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. An hour early in the morning before going to work. During the long stretches of my son’s baseball games (but not when he was batting, of course!), at dance and music recitals when my kids were not performing.

Even in Canada, Conservative Churches Are Growing

With fewer evangelicals and more secular surroundings than their brethren in the United States, Canada’s mainline denominations collectively lost half of their members over the past 50 years. Last year, a team of sociologists suggested that conservative theological beliefs—including emphasis on Scripture as the “actual word of God” and belief in the power of prayer—may be the saving grace keeping attendance up at 9 of 22 Ontario churches studied.

The Bible says there is only one way to get God’s approval: by accepting his love and what he’s done for us. We trust our lives to him. If you’ve never done that, you can right now by praying, “God, I want to switch the focus of my life from living for the approval of other people to living for your approval alone. I put my faith in you and trust what Jesus Christ has done for me. I commit my life to you.” (If you just prayed this prayer, please let me know by writing .)

Case-Making 101: The Christian Worldview and the problem of doubt, evil and suffering

What do you do when you have questions and doubts about God or your faith? Questions can be good if it moves us forward to finding answers. I had a lot of questions about Christianity and I did not do anything about that for years except to become a doubtful skeptic. Doubt because of unanswered questions can be a terrible thing if it causes us to settle into apathy or worse.

The Signs That You're Going Through a Quarter-Life Crisis

We don’t need to strive to be something we’re not. I have learned that life doesn’t need to be a competition. It’s about becoming the best versions of ourselves. Stewarding our calling inevitably requires us to muster up the courage to say no to the expectations of the world but yes to our Caller. This knowledge has helped me achieve peace and a much greater understanding of my purpose.

Were Christians Really Persecuted in the First Century?

“In the first century, Christians were crucified, burned, and thrown to the wild animals simply for proclaiming the name of Christ. This was a period of immense persecution, and if Christians wanted to survive, they had to hide out from the governing authorities.” While there is some truth in this statement, it is certainly an overstatement. Yes, Christians were persecuted, but in the first century, most persecution was local and sporadic.

44 | Christian Apologetics Ministry with Dr Frank Turek

The Deity of Christ in the Gospel of Mark

There are some who think the deity of Christ was a later invention that developed by the end of the first century. As evidence for this position, they assert that the Gospel written first—the Gospel of Mark—has a low view of Jesus, while the Gospel written last—the Gospel of John—has a high view of Jesus. Therefore, Jesus started out as a man in Mark’s Gospel but became God by the time John’s Gospel was written.

3 Reasons Your Kids May Eventually Think Christianity is Worthless

My daughter, age 7, has always been very generous with her allowance and came running down the stairs with a Ziploc bag of piggy bank money the morning after the collection was announced. I smiled with appreciation for her giving heart and told her, “I’m so proud of you. You always want to share your allowance with others. That’s wonderful, sweetheart.”

Brad Pitt Opens Up About His Charismatic Christian Upbringing and Overcoming Addiction

Pitt said he was told that “rock shows are the devil” but said that going to concerts almost helped him relate to the church experience: “I realized that the reverie and the joy and exuberance, even the aggression, I was feeling at the rock show was the same thing at the revival. One is Jimmy Swaggart and one is Jerry Lee Lewis, you know?”

Is Your Bookshelf Racist?

My dream has always been to live in a house full of books. I saw one of those rolling library-ladders in a movie when I was a kid and always dreamed of riding on one someday. My dad is a professor, and I loved visiting his office and looking at all the books on his shelf. They signified a curiosity for truth and an arrival at maturity.

For Mother's Day, Black Lives Matter Is Bailing Black Women Out of Jail

This Mother’s Day, at least 30 women will get the gift of freedom thanks to Black Lives Matter activists, who are raising funds for what they’re calling National Mama’s Bail Out Day. The women in question haven’t been convicted of any crimes—they just can’t afford to pay the bonds or fines that will let them go be with their families until their trial dates.

Every Good Church Is Messy

God’s plan to make his grace known to the world is not for a bunch of perfect people to live together in perfect harmony, but rather, for sinful people to cling desperately to Jesus, even in the hardest instances. God’s light may not shine in every corner of the church, but it still shines all around. When the church looks to Jesus for help in our weaknesses, powerful things can happen.
