Chance the Rapper Debuted a Worshipful New Song Called ‘Blessings’ on ‘The Tonight Show’

“When the praises go up, the blessings come down.” Chance the Rapper performed his highly anticipated new single, "Blessing," on The Tonight Show last night, and it actually sounds a lot like a worship song. On Twitter, the hip-hop star has been open about his faith and his own spiritual journey, and his new song—which features a verse from gospel star Byron Cage and a choir—has unabashedly Christian lyrics throughout. His new mixtape drops on May 13.

Here’s the New Justin Timberlake Song He Made for a Troll Movie

Justin Timberlake released a star-studded video for his brand new single “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The video and song are so fun, we can almost ignore the fact that it’s for an animated movie about troll dolls (though, as the video shows, the cast, which includes Anna Kendrick, James Corden and Gwen Stefani, is pretty great).

A Mother’s Day Greeting and Reflection | RZIM

As I reflect on this occasion, I think about the beautiful relationship Jesus had with his mother. I find it fascinating that when Jesus was in his final moments of his earthly journey providing redemption for the whole world, he paused to make sure that someone would take care of his mother. Even in the depths of his own pain and agony, Jesus was keenly aware of Mary’s distress and did not want her to feel abandoned in that moment, transferring the responsibility of his mother’s well-being to his beloved disciple, John.

What C.S. Lewis Teaches Us About Losing Faith and Finding It Again

As Chesterton puts it, “The popular critics of Christianity are not really outside of it … Their criticism has taken on a curious tone; as of a random and illiterate heckling.” You likely know what he was talking about: Many of the complaints and criticisms we hear about Christianity are more emotionally charged than carefully reasoned. And safe passage to meaningful conversations with each other can be hard to find.

6 Things Holding You Back From Making a Difference

"Making a difference" is not an unselfish act. If you elevate the lives of others, then you have just elevated the social infrastructure; within which, you prefer to live. This is an 'enlightened self-interest'. "Comfort" is a variable threshold for uncertainty or cognitive dissonance; interdependent among evolving skills of exploration. Therein arises the synergistic self or "yourself" and it's dynamic functional empowerment. But we are all restricted by the laws of physics; in & around us. We are social animals and are psychologically programmed by this parameter of survival. This is why culture lags technological ephemeralization--to allow for integration. Reflectively, Monetary exchange--now unnecessary, is the structural violence of leveraging each other against relative control over resources. Hence, you have your resulting mentality of "entitlement" or narrow self-interest; perpetuated by this neurotic culture of acquisition and hoarding. "Apathy" and "time" are both the editing of relevance; based on the relative acuity of the aforementioned narrow perspective. But this level of autonomy is the collective momentum of skills we develop by sequential experiences.

Huckabee Rips #NeverTrump: If You’re Not Going to Support Voters’ Choice, Leave the GOP

“When we nominated people over the past several election cycles, some of us had heartburn, but we stepped up and supported the nominee,” he said, and told any Republicans not backing Trump to leave the party. “This isn’t Burger King,” he said. “This is an election. Grace to You

When David’s ascent to the throne began, Saul’s slow and painful descent began also. “The Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul” (1 Sam. 16:14). Without God’s empowering Holy Spirit, Saul was effectively no longer king over Israel (15:28), although his physical removal from the throne, and his death, happened many years later. “And a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him.” God, in His sovereignty, allowed an evil spirit to torment Saul (see Judg. 9:23; 1 Kin. 22:19–23; Job 1:6–12) for His purpose of establishing the throne of David. This spirit, a messenger from Satan, is to be distinguished from a troubled emotional state brought on by indwelling sin or the harmful consequences of the sinful acts of others (e.g., spirit of jealousy, Num. 5:14). This demon spirit attacked Saul from without, for there is no evidence that the demon indwelt Saul. Saul, whose inward constitution was already prone to questionable judgment and the fear of men, began to experience God’s judgment in the form of severe bouts of depression, anger, and delusion, initiated and aggravated by the evil spirit assigned to him.

No Pow’r of Hell, No Scheme of Man

Where does the wrath of God come in? It is his righteous response to the outrage that sin is. It would not be good news if God were unrighteous, and if he were not angry with genocidal dictators and the pimps of child prostitution. The love of God wouldn’t be very comforting if God didn’t get angry when people assault the weak and vulnerable, especially his loved ones. If he were to stand idly by, without wrath, when his loved ones are abused and hurt and mistreated, then we wouldn’t be very impressed by his love.

9 Reasons Harriet Tubman Is a Perfect Choice for the New $20 Bill

Her escape plans were, despite Tubman’s illiteracy, well-planned and well-executed. Some sources report that she lead more than 13 expeditions during her life and helped to free tons and tons of slaves. The number is hard to track, but some sources say Tubman led as many as 300 people to freedom in Canada and other free states. These journeys were long and difficult and her skills and sleuth tendencies kept many people alive, including children. She would often use natural remedies for sicknesses and to hush crying babies—because, again, she was awesome.

13 Do Genesis 1 and 2 Contradict Each Other?

Many mistakenly believe that Genesis 2:5-6 refers to the third day (Genesis 1:11-13) of the creation week because of the plants mentioned. However, these two specific plant categories mentioned in verses 5 and 6 (i.e., shrub of the field, plant of the field) are very different than the plants created on day three (fruit trees, grass, plants yielding seed). The shrubs of the field were plants with thorns, which only came about after man sinned. The plant of the field refers to cultivated plants. These were not in existence on the third day, because man had not been created, and, obviously, had not fallen yet to bring about thorns.

The Church Needs Your Humility, Not Your Criticism

The famous writer’s response offers a powerful lesson to a generation of Christians who grew up watching their churches stumble through the culture wars, neglect social justice, or bungle questions about marriage and family. It’s easy for Christians in the Millennial generation constantly to criticize the Church and become cynical. We’ve seen and often are seeing the flaws of today’s Christianity. And many of us have become experts at pointing out these flaws.

Christianity's Five Most Countercultural Virtues

Faith doesn’t mean there’s an absence of doubt, mystery, or complexity, but it allows you to have confidence in something—a relationship with someone. To invest your trust and hope in any one thing is notable enough, but to have faith in an unseen, unquantifiable, supernatural God is one of the most countercultural acts imaginable.

In a failed attempt to appease the masses that they willfully ignored, officials will name a small research submarine onboard the ship “Boaty McBoatface.” We should issue a reminder here: The sub is neither a boat nor the mighty vessel that the good people of Britain agreed to vote on when they exercised their democratic right.

No Trinity, No Love

Think about it: A solitary god cannot be love. He may learn to love. He may yearn for love. But he cannot in himself be love, since love requires an object. Real love requires relationship. In the doctrine of the Trinity we finally see how love is part of the fabric of creation; it’s essential to the eternal, need-nothing Creator. From eternity past, the Father and the Son and the Spirit have been in community, in relationship. They have loved each other. That loving relationship is bound up in the very nature of God himself.

With Hands She Could Not See

We know that Mary was more blest Than any mother — gave her breast To give him life who gave her breath And with his life chose, freely, death. We know what Mary pondered when She saw him, unlike other men, Without a single flaw. “I am The mother of a spotless Lamb.” The words of Simeon were etched Deep in her soul, nor could be stretched To lose their sting, as if the sword He prophesied did not accord With her worst dreams. “This child is set To heal and wound the world. And yet, Not he alone, but you the toll Must pay. A sword will pierce your soul.” And so it was. With every blow, She tasted the prophetic woe. And then, before he said, “I thirst,” And she would now behold the worst, The Lord looked down and said to her, “From this day, woman, I confer On John, my most beloved friend, The first-born duty: to attend To every need you have.

4 Things My Mom Taught Me About Theology

Now, my mom doesn’t have “formal theological training.” She was raised in a Catholic school and got saved in a Calvary Chapel Bible study a few years before I was born. I don’t recall us owning a single systematic theology text in the home before I bought mine in seminary. Mom learned theology by attending church and Bible studies, and through her own devotional reading and the countless hours she spent listening to sermon tapes. In time, she learned enough to be recognized by the leadership at our old church and was asked to be a women’s Bible study leader, which she excelled at leading.

Say Hard Things

Paul writes, “When I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, ‘If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?’” (Galatians 2:14). In short, “Stop it!” Peter, the testimony of your behavior is telling a different gospel, a gospel that will not save anyone. And the false, peer-pressure, racist gospel your conduct tells is winning followers (Galatians 2:13). Remember the true gospel — by grace alone, through faith alone, apart from ethnic barriers — and repent. Bring your public actions back into conformity with the message for which Jesus died.

On Christian Music

But that is not the fault of the label, musicians, marketers or anyone else for that matter. We have the personal responsibility to make the determination. There are faults in everything and every ministry. We know or should know that and proceed accordingly. Is it perfect? No but we will never have perfection in this world. There are bands that I have come across that have the Christian label but the band’s website nor any information about them put forth a Christian message. I consider them Christians in a band but not a Christian band. I still like the music but don’t go to it for worship. The label helps so we at least don’t have to weed through the counsel of the ungodly to get to what we want. If I can support another Christian that is a bonus also. What I meant by “lighten up” is this really is not a big issue worthy of debate. The posers are revealed and changing or removing the label will not bring in secular listeners.

Pastors, Platforms, and Pride

This is the time of year here in Omaha when the tornado sirens go off. Sometimes they are a reminder and other times they are a warning. Not being from this area they serve the same purpose whether a warning or an exercise: they get my attention. The Bible gives warnings about sin. And we should hasten to add that included in sin is the prideful pursuit of fame by a minister. God portrays sin as a crouching animal behind the door (Gen. 4:7). Sin is not to be trifled with. Like a vicious animal predator it is not to be taken lightly. We can’t domesticate, coddle, practice, or love sin. We must mortify it. Do you see how deceptive this is? “This will be good for me and the kingdom.” No. It will be bad for you and the church. If a pastor thinks it is harmless to pursue his own fame he should hear the warning siren. That cat that you are petting is not a kitten brother, it is a raging lion! And it will devour you. Hear the siren and slay sin by savoring Christ.

The Untold Story of Olympic Champion Eric Liddell

Throughout the book Hamilton portrays Liddell in heroic tones, but in the final section he really lays it on thick. “Liddell’s character and his beliefs never allowed him to be depressed or negative,” Hamilton writes, “irrespective of the hardships.” Hamilton seems to have good reason for such an assessment, based as it is on accounts from those who lived at the camp and who overflow with praise for Liddell’s integrity and unselfishness. Indeed, Liddell’s sterling character shines through to such an extent that it’s not at all diminished when Hamilton dismisses as false one story—supposedly, Winston Churchill managed to secure Liddell’s release from the internment camp, but Liddell gave his spot to a pregnant woman instead.

The Power of Storytelling in Leadership

You know, there is an old Christian theological concept that is important here and it is called sphere sovereignty and it reminds us that we are responsible for that which is put into our care, under our stewardship. So one of the things that every Christian in the business world or the secular world needs to remember is we are not responsible for the things that are beyond our pay grade. If the company we are working for doesn’t have a clear grasp of its story, we are probably unable to reach two or three executive levels above to solve that problem. But where we are, where our unit is assigned, the work that this ours, that has a story and we are at least going to be very clear about what our story is. And furthermore, we are going to try to help others to understand how important it is to know who we are, why we are here, what we are doing, why it matters and what every group being led wants to know: Where in the world are we going?

But all this means that, according to Scripture, the current eagerness to pursue sex-change procedures as an answer to inner alienation is misguided. As many parents can testify, gender dysphoria is common in children and usually can be addressed not by changing the body but by dispelling misunderstandings of what they think a boy or girl should be, by clarifying for them the truth of their gender.
