Demolition teams began destroying parts of a Chinese church that has become a symbol of resistance to the Communist Party’s draconian clutch on religion, activists and witnesses said on Monday.

Hugh Ross: Why I am a Christian - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
My mother had no confidence in God, and my father thought pastors and evangelists were ‘charlatans’. Because I lived in a neighbourhood of immigrants, most of the people I met were Hindus, Buddhists, or atheists. The one and only time my maternal grandfather visited from Nova Scotia, he asked me to say a prayer before dinner. I didn’t know what to say, but I bowed my head and mumbled something. That’s about as close as I came to anything religious.

Sarah Palin on waterboarding: ‘Darn right’
On Monday, Palin posted on Facebook : “Actions to stop terrorists who’d utterly annihilate America and delight in massacring our innocent children? Darn right I’d do whatever it takes to foil their murderous jihadist plots — including waterboarding,” the post read. “Whatever one thinks of my one-liner at the NRA rally about treating evil terrorists the way they deserve to be treated to prevent the death of innocent people, it’s utterly absurd for MSNBC to suggest that I could put our beloved troops in harm’s way, but we’ve come to expect the absurd from that failing network.”
Time to Accept the End of Marriage
In the past, a woman had to restrain herself somewhat and seek some fair arrangement in order to prepare some family life to carry her through life before having children. Today, with the welfare system it doesn’t matter any more. Women can do exactly everything they want, and while not terribly luxurious in all cases, can be certain that someone will ALWAYS bail them out. Having hostage of the kids, and under the cloak of the myth of motherhood, women get away with stealing, and murder, but by default get support and at least loads of attention for “women’s issues” and the horrible thing that women may be poor (when they did everything to repel or eject any decent man who would have taken care of her.)

The Phobia of Being Called Islamophobic
In addition to calling out prejudice against Muslims (a people), the term "Islamophobia" seeks to shield Islam itself (an ideology) from criticism. It's as if every time you said smoking was a filthy habit, you were perceived to be calling all smokers filthy people. Human beings have rights and are entitled to respect. But when did we start extending those rights to ideas, books, and beliefs? You'd think the difference would be clear, but it isn't. The ploy has worked over and over again, and now everyone seems petrified of being tagged with this label.
Grace to You
When Christ told His apostles, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you” (John 13:34), He had just washed their feet as an example of agape- love. The apostles were self-centered, quarrelsome, envious of one another, and even sometimes challenged the Lord. Yet Jesus always did for them what was for their good. And this is how He wants all of us who claim to follow Him to show love—even for our enemies.
A Jewish Photographer’s Portrait of Arab Israeli Teenagers
Turning 18 is the start of an important year for young Israelis. They typically finish high school, become legal adults, and get the right to vote. It’s also the year when the differences between two strata of Israeli society crystallize: While virtually all Jewish men and women join the military, most Arabs, who make up around 20 percent of the population of Israel, don’t.
When God’s Sovereignty Scares You
Scripture doesn't hide the fact that bad things sometimes happen to God's people by God's design. Job stands in blazing contradiction to the myth that if you do good, only good will result (or if you do bad, only bad will ensue). Such was the faulty "wisdom" of Job's "miserable comforters" (Job 16:2). The Bible doesn't promote karma. Job was a good guy, and bad things happened to him. In fact, Jesus was the best of the good guys, and the worst of the bad things happened to him. Scripture unflinchingly affirms that in God's sovereign wisdom he may purposely ordain the things we most fear.
Scientists create circuit board modeled on the human brain
Stanford scientists have developed faster, more energy-efficient microchips based on the human brain -- 9,000 times faster and using significantly less power than a typical PC. This offers greater possibilities for advances in robotics and a new way of understanding the brain. For instance, a chip as fast and efficient as the human brain could drive prosthetic limbs with the speed and complexity of our own actions.
Critical Thinking— What Is it and Why is it Important to Believers? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Critical thinking has been described as “reasonable reflective thinking focused on deciding what to believe or do.” It has also been described as “thinking about thinking.” It has been described in more detail as “the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action”. More recently, critical thinking has been described as “the process of purposeful, self-regulatory judgment, which uses reasoned consideration to evidence, context, conceptualizations, methods, and criteria.”

Four times when a mobile phone disrupted a concert - and the performers' amazing responses
We're constantly reminded to turn off our mobile phones before a concert, but mobile ringtone still too often resound during that soft slow moment, or impassioned finale. We've trawled the internet for a few of the best examples - so here are the annoying and invasive bleeps, and the surprising (and sometimes musically-genius) responses from those on the stage.
J.R.R. Tolkien Snubs a German Publisher Asking for Proof of His “Aryan Descent” (1938)
As you’d expect from a man who had to create, in painstaking detail, all the races that populate Middle-Earth, J.R.R. Tolkien had little time for simple racism. He had especially little time for the highest-profile simple racism of his day, the wave of anti-Jewish sentiment on which Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party rode straight into the Second World War. His first novel The Hobbit , predecessor to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, first appeared in 1937, a time when the situation in Europe had turned ominous indeed, and would get far uglier still. It didn’t take long after the book’s initial success for Berlin publisher Rütten & Loening to express their interest in putting out a German edition, but first — in observance, no doubt, of the Third Reich’s dictates — they asked for proof of Tolkien’s “Aryan descent.” The author drafted two replies, the less civil of which reads as follows:
Ten questions everyone should ask themselves: the importance of knowing your worldview - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
My conclusion after twenty years of Christian ministry amongst university students is that most have unexamined lives. They neither challenge the accepted beliefs of our time nor think for themselves. Their beliefs are rather an inconsistent smorgasbord of borrowings from a variety of sources passively absorbed without proper evaluation.
How to Argue and Disagree Amicably - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Do your best to really have a robust understanding of the other position. You often heard that you should know the other position just as well as you know yours if you want to criticize it. Well, that’s not true and it’s completely infeasible. It surely helps but here why that phrase is a problem. To offer criticisms you just need to contrast it with what you believe to be true. This is simply conversion, contrapositions, obversions, contraries, and contradictions put into play. If you can do that then you don’t need exhaustive knowledge. If that phrase is true then everyone will be shutting their mouths all day long.
The big story of the Bible
We shouldn’t allow the Old Testament to discourage us from studying the Bible. Rather, it should encourage us to know that the Old Testament was the Bible used by Jesus and the apostles. Both believed it perfectly adequate to teach others about Christ and the kingdom he was bringing. Indeed, Luke 24 records Jesus giving two disciples a lesson on how they should see the Old Testament. Walking with them to the town of Emmaus, Jesus pulls out his pocket Old Testament and “beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (24:27).
This correction addresses a minor point and only strengthens the article's overall argument. The Bible's requirement of multiple witnesses for capital punishment does not require multiple eyewitnesses. Physical and circumstantial evidence, motive and opportunity, can also be "witnesses." Multiple "witnesses" is the standard not only for executions, but also for filing any criminal charge and for any guilty verdict, even for a minor crime. "One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter [any guilty verdict] shall be established" (Deut. 19:15). So this requirement of multiple witnesses, physical or otherwise, applies across the board, even regarding the hearing of an accusation against an elder in the church (1 Tim. 5:19).
Interview With Apologist and New Testament Scholar Michael Licona - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Michael Licona : I was born in Baltimore in 1961 and raised in a Christian family. I became a Christian at age 10 and my parents have told me I was an easy kid to raise, though by no means perfect. I’ve always had an interest in religious matters and ended up going to a Christian university. The first semester of my freshman year I decided I wanted to go into Christian ministry. But I thought it would be a music ministry, since I played the saxophone. As my education progressed, so did my desire to understand the Bible. That led me to do a master’s degree in religious studies with a concentration in Koine Greek, the Greek in which the New Testament literature was written. As I neared the end of my coursework, I began to have doubts about the truth of the Christian faith. How could I know if Christianity is really true, especially since many who are a lot smarter than I believe differently? Would I be of the same opinion had my parents been Muslims, Hindus, Jews, or atheists? This led me to search for answers and that’s how I became acquainted with the field of Christian apologetics…
Why Do Some Physicists Talk Nonsense about Nothing? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
2. "The old idea that nothing might involve empty space, devoid of mass or energy, or anything material, for example, has now been replaced by a boiling bubbling brew of virtual particles, popping in and out of existence in a time so short that we cannot detect them directly. I then go on to explain how other versions of 'nothing'—beyond merely empty space—including the absence of space itself, and even the absence of physical laws, can morph into “something.” Indeed, in modern parlance, “nothing” is most often unstable. Not only can something arise from nothing, but most often the laws of physics require that to occur."
Science Will Never Explain Why There’s Something Rather Than Nothing - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
When predicting something that science will never do, it’s wise to recall the French philosopher Auguste Comte. In 1835 he asserted that science will never figure out what stars are made of. That seemed like a safe bet, but within decades astronomers started determining the chemical composition of the Sun and other stars by analyzing the spectrum of light they emitted.
Augustine on Christians Talking Nonsense - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds as certain from reason and experience. Now it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn.

John Lennox: Faith is not a leap in the dark - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Faith is not a leap in the dark; it’s the exact opposite. It’s a commitment based on evidence… It is irrational to reduce all faith to blind faith and then subject it to ridicule. That provides a very anti-intellectual and convenient way of avoiding intelligent discussion.
God's Not Dead: If Bacteria are so Fit, Why Evolve into Mozart?
Large body mass
creatures are much less fit than the tenacious organisms like bacteria and
cockroaches. The evolutionists do not have to deal with just a missing link;
the whole chain is gone. Only God and His revelation can give us a foundation
for science. The theory of survival of the fittest does not comport with the
reality of ultra-resilient cockroaches because they do not need to evolve into
higher forms. They do just fine without knowing Mickey Mouse or Plato. Bacteria
would not become more stout and produce more survivable offspring if they could
read poetry or applaud Tiger Woods. Bacteria do not have determination or
conviction. Even if they did, how could that resolve give them the innate force
to evolve? They would need purpose and the means to fulfill that purpose, a
teleological reason. This can only come when there is intelligence and purpose.
A universe composed of only matter and motion cannot produce teleology, hence unguided
evolution is a myth; it is fable for profligate adults. It not only does not
gel with the facts; it is impossible for it to be true.
If the evidence for God is so strong, why are so many smart people unconvinced? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Recently, a reader posted a comment to this website which read “GOD IS NOT REAL” …with a string of obscenities appearing before and after these four words (which I have removed to maintain a PG rating). It does not take a trained psychologist to perceive that there is more than just bare logic shaping these atheistic views. If this person had arrived at atheism purely from logical reasoning, he would have calmly posted a response to the arguments posted on this website or would have simply chosen to ignore them.
Dead Men Tell No Tales
Lazarus of Bethany fell ill and died, and his body lay devoid of life and decaying in a tomb for four days before Jesus raised him (John 11:17). A whole chapter in John’s gospel is devoted to the story of how Jesus brought him back from the dead. But there’s not a hint or a whisper anywhere in Scripture about what happened to Lazarus’ soul in that four-day interim. The same thing is true of every person in Scripture who was ever brought back from the dead, beginning with the widow’s son whom Elijah raised in 1 Kings 17:17–24 and culminating with Eutychus, who was healed by Paul in Acts 20:9–12. Not one biblical person ever gave any recorded account of his or her postmortem experience in the realm of departed souls.
"Is Faith in God Reasonable?" Brief Debate Review: Alex Rosenberg vs. William Lane Craig
“Is Faith in God Reasonable?”
Is belief, in anything, without evidence (which is really what faith is) really reasonable?
I think it is safe to say it is really the god of Christianity that Craig, and many in the US, has “faith” in. With respect to Christianity, everything we know about Jesus is hearsay (and I do not assume he actually even existed). And, almost everything written about Jesus is shared/borrowed Sumerian, Egyptian, Persian, or other Mediterranean mythology. The Bible is full of atrocities, contradictions, and errors (historical, logical, and scientific). Fundamental concepts in Christianity include “belief” in Jesus, “belief” in the Bible, a virgin birth, resurrections, a triune god, vicarious redemption via human sacrifice predicated on animal sacrifice, heaven/hell, imaginary beings, judgment day, etc. It amazes me how seemingly otherwise intelligent people, including Craig, actually believe this stuff. It’s enough of a hurdle to try to make the philosophical case for even the existence of a god/supernatural, but now add all the other stuff Christianity postulates – seriously?
Imo, science and Humanism are more than sufficient to explore and provide satisfactory answers to all the serious questions we may have about ourselves, nature, and the universe – no god or religion needed (neither of which really just make sense to me).
C.S. Lewis's Seven Key Ideas - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network

How Does Ratio Christi Fit into the Apologetics Movement? - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
Ratio Christi is a different type of ministry. Many current ministries in apologetics and worldview fit into one broad category. They are ministries that provide speakers, books, CD’s, DVD’s, curriculum, blogs, training, and tons of materials and conversations in worldview or apologetics. For the sake of an analogy let's call them “wholesalers.” They provide large volumes of Christ centered and crucial content. Ratio Christi appreciates and is seeking to build partnerships with each of these ministries. We thank God for the vision and foundational work of people like Norm Geisler, Alvin Plantinga, David Noebel, Ravi Zacharias, Josh McDowell, Gary Habermas, and so many others that provided Christian worldview and apologetics necessary scholarship and the roots of a popular movement. Because of these visionaries, there are hundreds of graduates with Master’s degrees in apologetics. The big problem is that these trained apologists have very little hope of finding work in Christian ministry. Many of these graduates have been wondering why God would call them to do all this work with very little hope of getting a position in full-time Christian ministry.
A Dad Who Sings
Dad never had to tell me I should sing along. Much of what I learned wasn’t verbal instruction. I knew Jesus was good and powerful, not just because the Bible told me so, but because Dad sang about it so much. The impact wasn’t in him telling me that Jesus was everything; it was him singing it. For that example of faithfulness, I am, as one of those old songs said, “forever grateful.”

Should Christian Parents Ban Books?
Rather than banning non-Christian books, certain parents might even seek them out, looking for gems of thought-provoking and stimulating philosophy. In order to truly bolster a young person's mind, parent and child can read and seek together. Parents can serve as partners in a truth-seeking mission, not as prison sentinels "keeping watch" over a potentially dangerous inmate. As Christians, we should encourage and foster the growth of young minds—not stifle them. It is the strong mind, practiced in the field of intellectual battle, that can best defend and embrace Christian principles. An insulated brain becomes flabby and vulnerable.
Hank Hanegraaff: Always Be Prepared to Give an Answer - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The need for apologetics today is crucial. Believers must realize that we are living in a post-Christian era with a host of worldviews vying continuously for people's commitments and, indeed, for their very lives. We must face these challenges head-on. Apologetics does not supplant faith, it supplements it. Nor does it replace the Spirit's working. Rather, the Holy Spirit uses apologetic arguments as vehicles for clarifying the truth of God's Word. The same verses commanding us to preach the gospel also instructs us to constantly be prepared to correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and careful instruction (

1. “Heads bowed, eyes closed . . .” : During a church service, you may hear a preacher abruptly break into this unexpected dialogue with the audience: “Heads bowed, eyes closed. If you have accepted Christ into your heart [more later], I want you to raise your hand.” Don’t get scared. Nothing bad is going to happen to you. It is not a fancy way to steal your money or pull anything sneaky. It is the preacher’s way of helping the uncomfortable seeker feel more at ease about accepting Christ. It is best if you just follow instructions here.
I believe in science! Why do I need religion?! - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
…I do believe that is why science will eventually do away with the need for religion. Our available information grows at astounding rates, even the most out of touch person today knows more about the world and the universe than the most intelligent of people 1,000 years ago. Science will only continue to expand while religion will only continue to recede. The need and usefulness of religion, not to even mention credibility, is shrinking and baring wildly unusual events, it will continue on that progression.
Hollywood's Year of the Bible Continues With 'David and Goliath' Movie - Is the Film Industry Seeking Redemption?
The return to Biblical epics has been Hollywood's most interesting trend which the industry had not seen the likes of in over 50 years. Starting with The History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries, which led to the theatrical release of "Son of God" and continuing on with secular directors taking on classic Bible narratives such as Darren Arofonsky's "Noah" and Ridley Scott's upcoming film "Exodus: God and Kings" slated to release the end of this year.
And What About Divorce?
After last week’s post on gluttony , a host of similar comments bubbled up about divorce. Isn’t it hypocritical of Christians to protest so loudly about homosexuality when the real marital problem in our churches is divorce? Over many years debating these issues in my own denomination, I’ve often encountered the divorce retort: “It’s easy for you to pick on homosexuality because that’s the issue in your church. But you don’t follow the letter of your own law. If you did, you would be talking about divorce, since that’s the bigger problem in conservative churches.”
10 Things I Wish I Knew Before My First Full-Time Job
One of the biggest mistakes you can make in your first full-time job is to assume a passive role, only doing what you’re told to do. Don’t be afraid to present your ideas just because you’re an entry-level employee. No matter what position you’re in, you have an opportunity to offer something new because you are unique and wired differently than your coworkers.
“But What About 1 Timothy 2:12?” Ten Talking Points - The Junia Project
Further on point 1, it is a mistake to simply quote 1 Tim 2:12 as some kind of standalone truth statement. This is a huge example of taking text out of context, in this case, immediate context and book context as you point out. There is an inclusio (repeated text in the Greek, which may not be revealed in a translation, depending) around the text in 1 Tim 11-12, so these ideas are intended to be read together. The teaching unit is at least 1 Tim 2:8-15 (I think it actually goes until 1 Tim 3:13) and it is exegetically suspect to extract text from its teaching unit and furthermore, one prefers to not have lingering exegetical questions about text in a teaching unit, but this one has many and all should be answered before one expresses what one thinks the teaching unit as a whole teaches.
Doubting Darwin - The Poached Egg Christian Worldview and Apologetics Network
The sky is falling! Many interest groups and journalists raced to tell that to the public when a modest but important bill became law in Tennessee early in April. The law instructs teachers and administrators to "create an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that encourages students to explore scientific questions, learn about scientific evidence, develop critical thinking skills, and respond appropriately and respectfully to differences of opinion about controversial issues."
