Will People Spend Eternity in Hell?

I find it ironic that people who say hell is immoral often explicitly say that they believe certain things are unforgivable, such as brutal pedophilia and other sexual violence. If they actually believe that, then why should not God be able to think so also? I mean, if someone brutally rapes children without a hint of remorse, is such a person someone I would want to see forgiven? Personally, I'm not so sure. Plus, the sheer depths of depravity that people can sink to are sometimes unfathomable, and we in the west are embarassingly unfamiliar with them. Look at what is happening in the Congo Republic or South African Republic. Tell me you think those people deserve forgiveness no matter if they would spit in the face of God and not feel remorse!

Five atheists who lost faith in atheism

Atheism is cool. At least, that's the popular perception of a worldview that's enjoyed a rebrand and a renaissance in the last couple of decades. Authors like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens have issued forceful public challenges to the claims of the major faiths and the rights they've traditionally been granted, while well-respected and high-profile public figures have lent vocal support to their ideas. When Stephen Fry outlined an atheist (or even anti-theist) position on an Irish talk show, the interview went viral in hours, while comedian Ricky Gervais frequently uses his substantial platform to attack and undermine religion in film and stand-up.

When the Abortion Doctor I Protested Was Killed by a Sniper

One bitter cold January morning, my husband and I arose at 5, donned endless layers of clothing, and sat with dozens of others before the doors of one local abortion clinic. We remained there all the hours it took for the police to carry each of us away, one by one, as we passively resisted. Going limp bought time. It took four officers to carry one person away from the building and into the police bus that would take us to the courtroom to be booked. No abortions took place in the facility that day—or on many other days at other facilities throughout the city and beyond. Operation Rescue claims to have accrued more than 75,000 arrests for nonviolent blockades, calling itself the largest civil disobedience movement in American history. Like all peaceful civil disobedience in pursuit of justice, I believed our work was noble, honorable, and just. I still do.

Christian Thinkers 101: A Crash Course on Blaise Pascal

Did you know that the first digital calculator was invented by a seventeenth-century French mathematician? In his brief time on Earth, Blaise Pascal (1623–1662) wore many hats and left an imprint on both modern science and Christian philosophy that lingers to this day. Here’s your crash course on the life and accomplishments of Blaise Pascal—and why he still matters today.

WORLD | House panel advances religious freedom bill
 | J.C. Derrick | April 20, 2016

“The key to this bill is that it empowers a new U.S. national defense official—the ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom,” said Thomas Farr, director of the Religious Freedom Project at Georgetown University, who is a staunch advocate for putting the issue at the forefront of U.S. foreign policy. “It gives him the authority and at least some of the resources he will need to lead an effort on behalf of the United States to address the genocide taking place in the Middle East.”

When God Chased Me

The prophet Isaiah describes our running like this: “We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way” (Isa. 53:6). Following our own way seems like it leads to life, but it doesn’t. As Scripture elsewhere observes, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Prov. 14:12). Running from God leads only to judgment (Rev. 20:11–15).

The Blessing of an Excellent Wife

Few influences affect a man’s heart for God more than his wife, for better or for worse. She will either encourage his spiritual devotion to the Lord or she will hinder it. She will either enlarge his passion for God or she will pour cold water on it. What kind of wife encourages her husband’s spiritual growth? Proverbs 31:10–31 provides a profile of the wife who is worthy of her husband’s trust. Such a wife is the embodiment of true wisdom from God, causing the husband to confide in her with complete trust.

Rihanna Just Beat Out The Beatles for Second-Most Weeks at No. 1

Rihanna has officially surpassed The Beatles . Let that sink in. She now has the second-longest cumulative weeks at number one with her song "Work," featuring Drake. The song has been topping the charts for nine weeks straight, which gives her a total of 60 weeks spent at number one in her career. She tied The Beatles last week at 59, but has now busted the record. Rihanna still has some work work work work work to do to catch up with Mariah Carey, though, who has 79 weeks at number one.

The Death of Moses

“[Moses’s death] is a picture of what awaits every person who has placed their trust in Jesus as their Lord. God cares for us from our time of birth until when we die, and some day we will reach the Promised Land.” – Joel Brooks

The Historicity of the New Testament

All of these questions and more can be taken to our study of the Biblical texts. Beginning with the question of manuscripts, the New Testament has over 27,000 partial manuscripts to compare and study. While none of them are the original penned manuscripts, their remarkable similarity and consistency is a huge mark in favor of the NT’s reliability. To put these numbers in perspective, the closest other text from the ancient world is the Illiad which has around 500 surviving partial manuscripts. The New Testament, particularly the Gospels, are also written based largely on eyewitness testimony. This is not a story that has grown in the telling, the writers are writing about their own personal experiences. They are also writing to an audience of fellow eyewitnesses. When most of the texts in the NT began to be circulated, the people who lived and experienced the events recorded were still living. If these texts were deceiptful, the hundreds of people who were present at the sermon on the mount or the feeding of the 5000 or the crucifixion could have denounced the writings as false.

Renewing Your Mind | The Authenticity of Scripture | April 20, 2016

Islamic theology is very emphatic that salvation is gained by means of the right faith and right deeds, such as performing the obligatory acts of reciting the confession of faith, prayer, fasting, almsgiving and pilgrimage to Mecca. And despite the fact that God is often called “Most Gracious, Most Merciful” in the Qur’an, a Muslim cannot have any assurance of salvation until the day of judgment. The following comment by a Muslim author summarizes the Islamic position accurately: “The entry [into Islam] constitutes no guarantee of personal justification in the eyes of God … there is nothing the new initiate can do which would assure him or her of salvation … [Islam] denies that a human can attain religious felicity on the basis of faith alone … only the works and deeds constitute justification in God’s eyes … Everyone strives and some more than others … Religious justification is thus the Muslim’s eternal hope, never their complacent certainty, nor for even a fleeing moment.”

Singles Don’t Miss Out on Sanctification

Even now, married as I am, I wince a little inside when I hear people say those things: “Is marriage or children more sanctifying?” And I want to argue with them: Each new thing God brings, by his grace, sanctifies us more and more. But it isn’t a question of one thing being more sanctifying than another. If you aren’t married, or if you don’t have children, he’ll be sanctifying you through other means.

Demonic Orthodoxy and Dead Faith

send to a friend #5  Posted by Bekki  |  Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 7:52 AM Thank-you, John. As a new believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, coming out of the Roman Catholic system, I have found that the definition of "works" people have created is as multi-faceted as a diamond. Everyone has their own view of what "living as a Christian" implies and staunchly resists the Biblical understanding of a faith that truly works. Many people, sadly even evangelical Christians, make works a visible display, not for God's glory, but their own. What about each one of us? What about our day to day ministry in this life? Are we proclaiming the gospel? Are we telling our teachers, our neighbors, our friends...the Truth? Are we doing it all for His glory because of what He has done for us? Coming out of a system where "works" is worn on the sleeve, it is a blessing to know that my "works" done for God are borne in my heart and carried out day by day, in His love and in His TRUTH.

The Pride of Life in a Codpiece | Blog & Mablog

This means that if we want maximum liberty for people who don’t believe in Jesus, then we will have to . . . believe in Jesus. If there is no God, and if Christ did not come back from the dead, then the bi-pedal carbon unit that doesn’t believe in Jesus is nothing more than 200 pounds of protoplasm with an average temperature of 98.6, and endowed by blind evolutionary processes with nothing in particular to speak of. Rights? In order to be rights at all, human rights have to be grounded in a reality that is completely out of the reach of our elected and appointed officials. And that means religion. For the best results, it needs to be the true religion. False ones let you down.

To Throw a Lasso Around the Moon

Orion is the next generation of exploration vehicles to go to the moon and beyond, replacing the space shuttle. My role is to make sure its navigation design is state of the art so that it can run autonomously and return the crew safely to earth. My days, then, are spent doing a lot of analysis and derivation of equations as well as attending meetings. We have a “design as you fly” philosophy, which means we have a bias toward action and trying to do things better and more efficiently than prior space shuttle teams.

26 Freudian Slips?

And that’s exactly what a child in the womb is—a person. The more we’re able to look inside the womb, the more obvious it is, even to those who once made the case for abortion by denying the unborn are persons. Now they can’t. And this, folks, is progress. So please keep pointing out that p word wherever and whenever you can.

The reason some are swearing off smut, Luscombe explains, is simple: These mostly non-religious twenty-somethings who’ve been guzzling porn since puberty are realizing that porn has rewired their sexuality, leaving them crippled in real-life relationships.

The 5 Scenes The Planned Parenthood Video Creator Doesn't Want You To See

This month, Alliance Defending Freedom commissioned its own forensic audit to look into the videos. Instead of using a small partisan research firm, however, they used Coalfire, a third-party digital security and forensics firm with experience providing evidence for civil and criminal investigations. Unlike the Planned Parenthood-commissioned audit, Coalfire had access to every second of released audio and video investigative footage. The Fusion report only had access to four full-length videos released on YouTube through August 4, and none of the source material.

Messy Grace

A story that will move you. A spirit that will inspire you. A pastor's wisdom that will teach you. Questions that will challenge you. Kaltenbach's exhortation to both treat gay people lovingly, and hold true to one's convictions, is both winsome and challenging. His wisdom flows from life, being raised by two gay parents, coming to Christ, and sharing Christ's love with his parents and loved ones. I read with rapt attention, wanting to see his story unfold, and to benefit from the insight his experiences yield for the  church. Grace is messy, and that's OK. It's possible to live in grace and truth. Christ's love is higher, purer, and truer than the positions we take, or the sides we join. A rich, readable, provocative, and persuasive read.

A Real Attorney Weighs In: How Realistic are the Cases in God's Not Dead 2?

God’s Not Dead 2 tells the story of a public school teacher, “Grace Wesley” (played by Melissa Joan Hart), whose Christian faith and career come under attack after she answers a student’s question about Jesus in class. A zealous civil liberties group files suit, looking to make an example of her in its quest to remove God from public discourse. If the story has a “ripped from the headlines” feel, it’s for good reason: More than twenty-five court cases involving Christians who were sued for expressing their faith in public settings are cited in the film’s credits as an example of the controversies occurring every day on the subject. Most of those cases were handled in court by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

How Rust Belt city Youngstown plans to overcome decades of decline

On issues of poverty and opportunity in America, this is part of an ongoing series of reports called “Chasing the Dream.”

Drunk in Love

We see stories in movies of people getting married drunk at a random chapel in Las Vegas. We laugh at their foolishness, and could never see ourselves doing something so ridiculous. But people get married drunk all the time. They’re not under the influence of alcohol. They’re filled with dopamine — infatuation, so-called love, and lust. Just as a covenant entered under the influence of alcohol is unlikely to survive, these marriages are also likely to struggle. Marriage should be entered by a man and woman with a sober-mind and heart, who can take seriously the vows they’re making before God and others.

An atheist explains the real consequences of adopting an atheistic worldview

I see a lot of atheists these days thinking that they can help themselves to a robust notion of consciousness, to real libertarian free will, to objective moral values and duties, to objective human rights, and to objective meaning in life, without giving credit to theism. It’s not rational to do this. As Frank Turek said on the latest episode of “Cross Examined”, atheists have to sit in God’s lap to slap his face. We should be calling them out on it. I think it’s particularly important not to let atheists utter a word of moral judgment on any topic, since they cannot ground an objective standard that allows them to make statements of morality. Further, I think that they should have every immorality ever committed presented to them, and then they should be told “your worldview does not allow you to condemn this as wrong”. They can’t praise anything as right, either. This is not to say that we should go all presuppositional on them, but if the opportunity arises to point out how they are borrowing from theism in order to attack it, we should do that  in addition  to presenting good scientific and historical evidence.
