This Real-Life Hoverboard Demo Video Is Insane

The future is now. This demo video from the French tech company Zapata Racing (the people behind those cool, water jet powered “Flyboards") shows their incredible “Flyboard Air” invention in action. The clip features a rider soaring over a body of water (take that Biff) on a hoverboard-like device at terrifying heights—according to the company, it can go nearly 10,000 feet! Zapata Racing also claims that the Flyboard can go over 90 MPH for more than 10 minutes. Behold, this Christmas’ hottest item.

Violence Breaks Out At T4G As Rival Theology Gangs Clash | The Babylon Bee

LOUISVILLE, KY—For the third time in as many gatherings, the Together for the Gospel Conference was marred by an outbreak of turbulence as tensions rose over differing hermeneutic approaches to Scripture. “The dispensationalists feel like they’ve been given short shrift again,” said Dr. John Dawsen, as a Crossway pen whizzed by his ear. “Combine the grammatical-historical and redemptive-historical feud and inter-complementarian squabbles, and you have a recipe for contention.”

http://conference.thegospelcoalition.org/2016

We invite you to the conference for women, but not all about women. It's a gathering of women around the Word of God. To this third TGC Women's Conference, we come joyfully but soberly, knowing that suffering meets us at every hand, right at home and all across the globe. What better book for us in 2016 than 1 Peter—packed with gospel perspective on our short lives. It's a little epistle, but it gives us a big view of who we are in Christ and how we are to live as redeemed sojourners in this world. How do we stand firm in God's true grace? How do we offer a strong shining witness to Jesus Christ even in the midst of fiery trials? Peter points us insistently to the Lord Jesus, to his suffering on our behalf, and to the resurrection life he makes possible for those who believe in him. At TGCW16 we won't be getting away from real life; we will be seeing it clearly, in light of gospel help and hope. By God's grace, we will go away better prepared to live and share resurrection life, in a world of suffering.

Canal Walk The Canal Walk is part of the Indiana Central Canal, which was dug in the early 1800s, in an effort to facilitate interstate commerce. Today, the refurbished Canal Walk (stretching north through White River State Park to 11th Street) serves the downtown community as a waterside promenade for walkers, runners, bikers and sightseers (while the canal itself includes a steady stream of pedal boats, which may be rented west of the Indiana State Museum).   Children's Museum Located just minutes from downtown, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis features five floors of fun and interactive learning that have the power to transform the lives of children and families across the arts, world cultures, sciences, and humanities.   Eagle Creek Park & Marina One of the nation's largest city parks, Eagle Creek Park covers over 3,900 acres of land on the northwest side of town. As the park's trails beckon to hikers and birders, its 1,400-acre lake--a frequent host of U.S. Rowing's National Championship--welcomes fishermen and sailors. As well as picnic areas and a swimming beach, the park offers rentals for canoes, kayaks, Hobie Cats, sailboats, pontoon boats, wind-surfing and pedal boats--as well as lessons for the aforementioned.

There's a Deeper Reason for Adam LaRoche's Sudden Retirement From Baseball

ESPN senior writer Tim Keown, in his profile of LaRoche describes it this way: “Adam LaRoche was now a conduit for opinions on education and money and privilege and kids in the workplace. Hashtags reigned. He was either an idiot or a saint.” Keown goes on to offer a reason for LaRoche's retirement that's much deeper than the spoiled athlete bit. Back in November, LaRoche took a trip to the red-light districts of Southeast Asia, where he worked with Exodus Road, a nonprofit that combats underage sex-slavery. There, LaRoche and fellow-pro Blaine Boyer "conducted surveillance in brothels and tried to determine the age of the girls—known only by numbers pinned to bikinis—and identify their bosses,” says the ESPN profile.

A Lesson in Failed Apologetics

Discussion and argument is, of course, natural after the Christian faith is professed, but this is merely an inevitable aftermath. Many linger here, hoping that their knowledge of philosophy, Biblical hermeneutics, science or history will be the deciding factor in worldview encounters. But we’re responsible to be a witness to the light (like John the Baptist; John 1:6-8). Instead of focusing on the immediate results, it’s time to focus on the Truth and let it do what it’s meant to do. It’s not entirely up to us (Thank God…literally).

10
Christian Apologetics – The Bible Commands It

Having previously given several examples of Jesus’ and Paul’s use of persuasion and careful reasoning approaches to evangelism, let me now show you how God, through His inspired authors, has given us the commission to each be careful and considered Christian case-makers.

11
Christian Apologetics - What Is Christian Apologetics?

Christian apologetics represents the serious and sustained engagement with ‘ultimate questions’ raised by a culture, people group, or individual aiming to show how the Christian faith is able to provide meaningful answers to such questions. Where is God in the suffering of the world? Is faith in God reasonable? Apologetics clears the ground for evangelism, just as John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of Jesus of Nazareth. …Evangelism…issues a personal invitation: ‘You are invited to the feast! Please come!’ Apologetics lays the ground for this invitation; evangelism extends it. Both are an essential part of the mission of the church

Bible Intake Is Not a Hot Dog Eating Contest

In an increasingly fast-paced society, most of us already feel like life is too busy. We may recognize our need to feed on God through welcoming his word into our hearts, but it’s all too easy to come to our Bibles like we’re navigating rush-hour traffic, trying to get home as quickly as possible. But our frantic souls desperately need to slow down, linger, and have unhurried time enjoying the rich fare of God’s self-revelation to us. We need a more reflective — even leisurely — reception of God’s word.

Unhinged: Senator Boxer ridicules 'philosopher', assails Catholic priest at Senate climate hearing

Irritated by the testimony from the author of 'A Moral Case for Fossil Fuels', Alex Epstein, democrat Senator Barbara Boxer asks, "Are you a scientist?" Epstein responds, "No. Philosopher... To teach you how to think more clearly." Boxer: "Well, you don't have to teach me how to think more clearly... I'm telling you that all you have to know is you're a philosopher and not a scientist, and I don't appreciate getting lectured by a philosopher about science." Boxer then turns to Father Robert Sirico, "You're saying that when the planet is facing all these problems, it's not a moral issue." Father Sirico replies, "I never said that. Where did I say that? Could you give me that quotation, Senator?" Unable to provide the quote, Boxer says, "I think you need to have a talk with Reverend Nelson," the Presbyterian USA minister sitting two chairs down. Father Sirico gets in the last word, "Who is by the way, not a scientist." 22 Discrimination Is Legitimate When the Distinction Is Relevant

When differences are relevant, it's not an invalid systemic discrimination. For example, if two guys walk into a bar and the bartender says, “I can't serve people like you—get out!” Is that wrong? Illegal? One can’t say until one knows why the discrimination is occurring. If the bartender is saying “get out” because the guy isn’t white, then that’s invalid. Why? Because a person’s race is completely irrelevant to the issue of drinking at a bar. But what if he says “get out” because the guy is only fifteen? In that case, the age is relevant because drinking affects youth differently, they don't have the developmental ability to handle the impairment, etc. Yes, we systemically discriminate against fifteen-year-olds by law because of differences between them and adults, but it’s not invalid to do so.

My Love/Hate Relationship with Leadership

We know the names of great leaders of God’s people and why they matter. We know what they did. Leadership is not just a biblical concept in the church, but it's a godly practice shown throughout Scripture. Leadership is both a biblical practice and biblical principle.

2 Years After the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ Kidnapping a New Video of Victims Emerges

Today CNN obtained a new video showing at least 15 girls kidnapped from Chibok. The “proof of life” video is thought to be part of a tactic used in negotiations with government officials, who have recently made major offensive military strides in fighting the group. Though nearly 11,000 people have been rescued from Boko Haram in recent months, many of the Chibok girls are still missing. Some were thought to have been forced into sex slavery or marriage. Some kidnapping victims have even been used as suicide bombers .

'The Jungle Book' Honors Tradition and Does Something New

When we were still young, my parents moved us out of the suburbs and onto a big plot of land surrounded by trees and woods. It wasn't a jungle by a long shot, but those woods were filled with animals—no panthers, but some foxes, and not wolves, but we could hear coyotes howling at night. Sometimes people talked about bears in the woods. Sometimes we’d come home to discover snakes sunning themselves on the rocks outside our house. In the suburbs, humans were the rule, and animals were the exception. But at our new home, we were the intruders—the animals were there first.

Thinking Clearly about God and Evolution

C hristianity Today recently had a cover story reporting on Christians who claim that human beings could not all have descended from a single human couple. That story was a symptom of a current trend: more and more Christians, even self-identified evangelicals, claim that Christians must make their peace with evolutionary theory. In recent years, scientists such as Francis Collins, Karl Giberson, Ken Miller, Darrell Falk, and others have written books defending theistic evolution or evolutionary creationism . The historical reality of Adam and Eve is obviously central to historic Christianity; but it is just one of many issues that, as Christians, we must consider when exploring the broader debate over God and evolution. Unfortunately, the debate is often marred by confusion and ambiguity. Though we can’t discuss every related issue here, let’s see what we can do to think more clearly about the subject.

9 Things You Should Know About Autism

5. The causes of ASD remain unknown, though it appears to have a strong genetic component. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), studies have shown that among identical twins, if one child has ASD, then the other will be affected between 36 percent and 95 percent of the time. In non-identical twins, if one child has ASD, then the other is affected about 0 percent to 31 percent of the time. Parents who have a child with ASD have a 2 pecent to 18 percent chance of having a second child who is also affected. ASD tends to occur more often in people who have certain genetic or chromosomal conditions. About 10 percent of children with autism are also identified as having Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, or other genetic and chromosomal disorders. ASD commonly co-occurs with other developmental, psychiatric, neurologic, chromosomal, and genetic diagnoses. The co-occurrence of one or more non-ASD developmental diagnoses is 83 percent, and the co-occurrence of one or more psychiatric diagnoses is 10 percent.

WORLD | Study: When tests detect birth defects, babies can still be born healthy | Julie Borg | April 14, 2016

Researchers at the University of Cambridge, who published their results in the journal Nature Communications , found even when half the cells of an early-stage mouse embryo were abnormal, the embryo was still able to fully repair itself because the abnormal cells self-destructed and healthy cells replaced them. In many cases, the process completely repaired a defective embryo, leaving it with all healthy cells even though some of the placental cells were still abnormal. Even in cases where 75 percent of an early-stage embryo’s cells were abnormal, the ratio of normal cells increased as the embryo developed.

Responding to the Nonempirical Case for Atheism - www.ThePoachedEgg.net/mobile

Today, the physical and historical evidence for the existence of the God of the Bible is so extensive and compelling that unbelieving skeptics are increasingly resorting to nonempirical arguments to defend their unbelief. That is, they appeal to what we do not yet know or cannot possibly know about the universe and insist that some exotic science might one day allow us to conceive of life existing apart from God.

Understanding the Unique Worldview of Students Today - www.ThePoachedEgg.net/mobile

by Sean McDowell As a high school student, my father sent me to a two-week worldview experience in the mountains of Colorado Springs called Summit Ministries . I had no idea what I was getting myself in to. Looking back now, over two decades later, I realize that it was one of the most formative faith experiences of my life. Although there were probably a couple dozen speakers at Summit (who addressed all sorts of worldview issues related to theology, economics, apologetics, science, and more), my favorite was Dr. Jeff Myers . He has sense become a good friend of mine, and he is now the president of Summit Ministries , a vital worldview experience for students. Dr. Myers is a popular speaker, the author of many books (including one of my favorites, Handoff ), and is one of the most important contemporary voices in the church. Dr. Myers was kind enough to answer some of my questions. I hope you enjoy the interview, but most importantly, if you are ages 16-22, please consider attending Summit this upcoming summer. It is a "game-changer" for many students, and I believe it could be for you too.

Reformed According to the Word of God

We now find ourselves on the underside of a moral revolution unprecedented in human history. As long as there are departures from biblical truth, we must continue to reassert the call to faithfulness that was famously proclaimed 500 years ago. Until Jesus comes again, the reformation is never over. The church must always be reformed according to the word of God.

4 Reasons Your Church Needs a Mobile-Friendly Website

Although having a mobile friendly website will not fix all of your problems, it will fix many of the visual complications found on most websites. The most overlooked benefit of mobile friendly websites is not that they shrink down appropriately to the size of a phone or tablet screen, but that they adjust to any size screen or window. This means that if someone is looking at your website on a 40 inch screen, your website will enlarge to use every bit of that screen space. Conversely, if you have an 11 inch computer monitor with the web browser only taking up half the screen, your website won’t require scrolling left to right in order for the viewer to see all of your content. This is a great benefit for any person using your website in any context.

Jackie Robinson and the Pattern of Jesus

It is easy to miss the historical magnitude of that moment in 1947 for the advance of civil rights in America. Consider that when Rickey signed Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the color barrier in baseball, it was a year before President Truman ordered the U.S. military desegregated, seven years before the U.S. Supreme Court rendered its decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, eight years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Ala., bus, 10 years before President Eisenhower used the U.S. military to enable the Little Rock Nine to attend Central High School in Arkansas, 16 years before MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, 17 years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and 18 years before the Voting Rights Act of 1965. How to Kill Sinful Anger

We must talk about it. Pride hates confessing sin to other people. If we feel resistance to doing it, it’s an indicator that pride is likely at the root. Talking to someone about it wages war on sinful anger. It has a head-clearing effect on us. And objective input helps correct our perspective and honestly address the question, “Why do I have a right to be angry?” Answering this question out loud often exposes our errant presumptions and pride.

Why 99 out of 10 Millennials Leave The Church?

As the scintillating Richard G. Howe says, “three out of two people are bad at fractions.” Fewer, I imagine, are good at statistics. Statistics are useful and powerful in telling a story but are often misleading. In fact, statistics can be used to tell any story you want depending on how the questions are asked and the findings presented. And so goes it with the mass exodus of young adults leaving the church. We want to know why. Polls then are taken, findings are presented, and the blogopshere runs wild with them. Thus we find our social media filled with articles telling us the five reasons millennials have forsaken God. And this is fine. Do not misunderstand my point here. I only want to add one thought to this discussion, and it is this. People never give you the real reason they leave church.

Jesus Heals a Woman and a Girl

Father God, I pray for us as a church that when we read the Scripture, that you would send us the Holy Spirit, first to compel us to read the Scripture, but then also to give us the mind of Christ that we might understand what is being said, and then to give us the heart of Christ that we might weep with those who weep, and mourn with those who mourn, and rejoice with those who rejoice. Lord Jesus, we rejoice that the woman who bled for twelve years by faith was healed. Pray for healing for those who are suffering, and we believe that you can and do heal. God, as well, we pray for the young girl who died and her family that, Lord God, you would comfort those who are living and lost those that they love, and that you would enable us to trust, by faith, in the resurrection of the dead that she experienced, that we will as well. God, I thank you that you call the first woman, “Daughter,” and the second woman, “Child.” And God, I pray for us all in general, but the women in particular. For those who don’t have fathers, I pray that Jesus would be the father figure in their life. And for those who do have fathers like Jairus who love and serve them, that they would love and honor their fathers, and that Lord God, they would know that through Jesus, you as well call them children, children of God.

Officials in the Pendik District had filed a report of charges into a confidential record system but never through the court system for prosecution.
