Lee Strobel Talks About the Resurrection

A: Yes, Nov. 8, 1981. I had gone to church with Leslie that day. I can’t remember anything that was said, but I came home and I just felt like after a year and nine months of looking at the evidence from science and history, and especially the resurrection, that I needed to reach a verdict. As I wrote page after page of evidence on my yellow legal pad, I just put down my pen and said, “Wait a second, it’s going to take more faith to maintain my atheism than to become a Christian,” because the evidence, I believed, was that strong. So that’s when I concluded the resurrection was true. I read John 1:12, which says that “as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.” I didn’t just believe it, but I repented of my sin and received His free gift of forgiveness and eternal life, and became a child of God. And my life began to change.

12 Essential Bonhoeffer Quotes

Many of Bonhoeffer’s actions seem nonsensical when viewed with an objective eye. He split from the German Church to form the Confessing Church, he got involved in an assassination plot (against Hitler), he returned to Germany from the safety of the U.S. right before the war reached its worst. But put all together, they reveal the story of a man of great conviction, who was willing to go against the norm and undergo suffering for his people and for the God he was committed to following. He was a man who, by the end of his life, really understood the cost of discipleship that he famously wrote about.

Worship Leaders Are Not Rock Stars

Worship leaders are not rock stars. Nor are they the center of attention. Their role is to inspire others to make Jesus the center of attention and the only One who is worthy of our praise and adoration. No matter what style of music we choose, that is always the aim and intent.

Meet the Women Apologists

But as she continued talking to her coach and reading works of apologetics—including N. T. Wright’s defense of the Resurrection—Ordway confessed faith in Christ. Now she finds herself in another new country, directing the master in apologetics (MAA) program at Houston Baptist University (HBU), a small liberal arts college in the heart of the nation’s energy capital. There, she is among a burgeoning group of women who are reshaping apologetics in the West.

Zondervan TGC15 E-book Sale Ends Sunday

After absorbing this book, the OT no longer intimidated me, but opened up like a spring flower; I began to see Christ as the fulfillment of all the ceremonies, laws, and prophecies. This perspective deepened my understanding of biblical theology and has equipped me to be a far better teacher and evangelist. I have required this book of my own students and have recommended it to many churchmen. I cannot commend it enthusiasticallhy enough as required reading for all believers. This weekend, you may buy this excellent volume in its e-book edition for $3.99 as part of Zondervan’s e-book sale designed to coincide with The Gospel Coalition’s National Conference , which kicks off Monday in Orlando.

The Definition That Will Not Die!

Dr. Craig: Well, you couldn't. This is really, again, just trying to redefine the terms, and what this philosopher points out is that our knowledge doesn't come in neat partitions like this. I would make the even more fundamental point that one is a theist or an atheist depending upon whether or not you believe that God exists or you believe that God does not exist. Your justification for that is quite independent of your belief state. You can have theists who just believe that God exists by faith without argument. They just believe that God exists. That's called a fideist. And you could have an atheist who just stubbornly believes that God does not exist even though he has no argument, no proof, he doesn't want anything to do with God so he believes God does not exist. Or you could have an atheist that is loaded with arguments against the existence of God to justify his belief. These people don't differ in their belief state, Kevin. They differ in the justification that they would offer for those belief states. So it is quite improper to try to distinguish their belief states based upon the degree of justification they have for those beliefs.

Why would God want sin to abound? Dr. Sproul discusses the distinction between justification and sanctification. Law reveals the reality of sin and lets us know the extent. An investigation of four systems of justification using faith and works predominantly held by various groups claiming Christianity is presented. An introduction to baptism is started.

Where Do Moral Values Originate? (video) | Come Reason's Apologetics Notes

Most people recognize that moral values and obligations are real. However, they disagree strongly on where moral values come from. In this clip, Lenny explores the three possible origins of moral obligations: they are either determined by nature, they are designed by men, or they are discovered as something independent of ourselves and our world. See which concept makes the most sense.

Souljournaler: In Their Own Words XXXII: God Is The Means and The Ends

My name is Andy Pierson. I am the father of two precocious boys. I got "The Call" from God at midlife to preach the Gospel. I went back to school at 40 years old for a Theological Studies degree at Valley Forge Christian College. I graduated Magna Cum Laude. On SoulJournaler I attempt to lay bare both the complex and simple aspects of the Christian life. The blog essentially acts as a cathartic tool to divest myself of the stresses and anxieties life can impress upon me. Theologically I am predominantly Reformed. At my core I know unequivically that I am a sinner saved by grace. The Gospel of Jesus Christ takes center stage in all that I think, say and do. That is because Jesus Christ is the only atonement for sin. There is no other way to eternal life.

Can prayer, Bible reading, church-singing and charismatic preaching stop Katy Perry's apostasy?

Like this disciplined athlete, you need to learn how to look beyond your present situation and keep your eye on His Presence. God is ready to display His glory in your life as well in these last days, but it is going to take boldness for you to take the mask off and look at people and situations the way God sees them, not how man looks at them. What may stand in front of you may look too big for you to grasp; that what you see now is the way it’s always going to be. Or you look at the dream God has given you and think, “there is no way I can ever accomplish this with my resources at my age…” That is the moment you have to flip the switch from looking to seeing.

Answering Muslims: ISIS Destroys Ancient Assyrian City of Nimrud

BAGHDAD –Islamic State militants hammered, bulldozed and ultimately blew up parts of the ancient Iraqi Assyrian city of Nimrud, destroying a site dating back to the 13th century B.C., an online militant video purportedly shows. The destruction at Nimrud, located near the militant-held city of Mosul, came amid other attacks on antiquity carried out by the group now holding a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in its self-declared caliphate. The attacks have horrified archaeologists and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who last month called the destruction at Nimrud "a war crime." The seven-minute video, posted late Saturday, shows bearded militants using sledgehammers, jackhammers and saws to take down huge alabaster reliefs depicting Assyrian kings and deities. A bulldozer brings down walls, while militants fill barrels with explosives and later destroy three separate areas of the site in massive explosions. "God has honored us in the Islamic State to remove all of these idols and statutes worshipped instead of Allah in the past days," one militant says in the video.

Why is it so hard for young people to find a job?

Younger workers believe they can multitask and remain productive, the human-resources people told the York researchers. Thirty-eight percent of respondents blamed multitasking for the lack of “focus” among younger workers. The authors of the study explained that the younger generation “believes that it is possible to multi-task effectively” and that using social media, for example, is an efficient way to communicate. In interviews, the applicants check their phones for texts and calls, dress inappropriately and overrate their talents.

Delivering Both Help and Hope

Those with a truly biblical worldview have a message that explains the origin of our problems, the true position of humanity, and the real solution that delivers us from our greatest need. With this understanding of human value, Christians should promote avenues to love and reach out to a hurting world, knowing that a human’s need for help is greater than that of every other created thing. The biblical worldview is one that honors God in our view of humanity, and delivers both help and hope.
