Today, the editorial board of The Daily Wire endorses Donald J. Trump for president.

We have been convinced by long months of persuasive argument from Trump’s supporters, including informing us that we are the sort of conservatives who enjoy watching our wives have sex with other men, telling us that we are social justice warriors for defending women from smears, and reminding us that we are shekelmasters in the pay of Big Oil Cruz Supporters™.

Steph Curry Uses Post-Game Interview to Tell Craig Sager His Cancer Battle Is an Inspiration

After last night’s win over the Wizards, NBA superstar Steph Curry shared a pretty special moment with longtime sideline broadcaster Craig Sager. For years, Sager has battled cancer, and recently, doctors told him his leukemia was no longer in remission. Sager asked Curry if he needed some rest before the playoffs—considering the Warrior’s have already locked up the No. 1 spot—and Curry used the opportunity to deflect back to the TV legend. Seeing you and doing what you’re doing, we’ve got no excuses. You’re an inspiration for us to just keep doing what we’re doing, keep fighting, and that’s the mentality we have. And it’s kind of contagious. Sager, for his part, is a pro, and simply moved on to the next basketball question, but it was a nice moment to see the game’s biggest star recognize the courage of one of its biggest supporters.

9 Things Everyone Should Do When Reading the Bible

The only thing that matters when reading any ancient document is context. Context. Context. Context. Learning Greek and Hebrew will not really help you if you still don't understand context. And number 8 is the only one that even touches on context? Out of a list of 9 things?? Who writes this stuff? This reads more like a superficial Huffpost article than a guide to Bible study.

Is Islam a Religion of Peace?

Well, it’s a polarized response. You have two responses I’m seeing in America: You have the people saying, “Islam is a religion of peace. All Muslims are peaceful, loving people. ISIS and the like are hijacking Islam and not representative of Muslims.” I like that response in that it’s compassionate, but I don’t like how it ignores some of the truth. On the other side of the equation, you have people who are saying, “Islam is a violent religion, therefore all Muslims are all threats, therefore let’s keep them out of the country.” That’s a problematic response. It’s completely uncompassionate. It doesn’t distinguish between people and a belief system. But it does at least deal with the truth about Islam. So the title of my book, Answering Jihad: The Better Way Forward , the better way forward is embracing both truth and compassion, truth about Islam but compassion for Muslims.

Malaysia Rules Muslim Man Can Convert to Christianity

Rebit’s lawyer, Chua Kuan Ching, welcomed the decision and said he hoped that the National Registration Department would not appeal the judgment. “In previous conversion cases involving minors, the courts did not go far enough to state what happens when the child reaches adulthood. So this is a different decision because the judge is saying that he has the right to religious freedom, according to the Constitution.”

Why Christians Love Diversity

It is an important question to answer for every generation, including our day, when the apparent fears of some white Americans are receiving fresh media attention. Whether the fears are sparked by non-white Muslim refugees, Latino immigrants, or African Americans protesting injustices, what seems to be missing among many Christians, is a solid biblical conviction that ethnic diversity in the church is a beautiful thing, and part of God’s ultimate design for his people.

Drug Lord El Chapo Started Reading ‘The Purpose Driven Life’ While in Prison

The Mexican drug lord is working his way through the book that contains some rather applicable points for a man that will likely spend the larger portion of his life behind bars. Besides leading a simpler life, some of Warren's main ideas include not being a prisoner of your past, forgiveness and surrender. Whether or not El Chapo will turn over a new leaf following these revelations is, of course, unclear. But we can probably safely assume that Rick Warren—in his wildest dreams—didn't expect a world-renown drug lord to be among his readership.

Lies are born the moment someone thinks the truth is dangerous. Apparently, a good number of business and sports executives think the truth about North Carolina’s “bathroom bill” (HB2) is dangerous, that’s why they are lying about it. Well, perhaps I should be a bit more charitable: some may not be overtly lying about it, but they are expressing their disapproval without knowing what the bill actually does.

25 Glorifying God

Over on the liberal side, they say, “We go to clubs. We go to bars and we don’t say anything about sin or Jesus, because it offends people.” You say, “But yeah, that offends Jesus when you don’t tell the truth and it doesn’t really help anyone.” It doesn’t help anyone to lie and it doesn’t help anyone to not tell them the truth by ignoring them. The point at both is we’re supposed to be honest about sin, the Bible and Jesus if we’re Christians and a liberal, spiritual person who believes that all religions are the same and everybody’s going to Heaven and Jesus is just a nice guy. – they’re not telling the truth. And the fundamentalist sectarian person who doesn’t want anything to do with gay people and lost people and drunk people and drug-addicted people – they’re not helping either, because they’re not saying anything to anybody. They’re just hanging out with their own kind. And the question is, is this evangelistic? How does this represent Jesus? You know, we love our city like Jesus loved Jerusalem and we weep over it as he wept over it. And the question is then, you know, how can we love people, have relationships with them and disagree with them in a way that they still feel loved.

A Guide to Ending a Conflict Without Being a Jerk

Short-run strategies are useful. They’re even more useful when joined to the longer-term, larger work God is doing in our lives: the slow turning of our hearts away from self and toward God as the Spirit conforms us to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). The more completely we open our hearts to God, the more we reflect the fruits that are closest to God’s heart, including peace, gentleness and self-control. From fruits like these come the soft answer not just as a quick fix, but as our first instinct, replacing (or at least mitigating) fight-or-flight with calm and compassion.

Why ‘Mere Christianity’ Won’t Go Out of Style

Lewis’s booming voice competed with Hitler’s bombs for the attention of the British people. Oxford was one of the few places Hitler didn’t blast. That worked out well for Lewis, who welcomed children from the city of London into his home for safety. But the challenge was that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) wasn’t based in Oxford. It was located in London, a city often the target of daily bombing.

God’s Banquet in Your Desert

But following Israel’s great deliverance, God’s next move is to lead his people “into the wilderness. . . . They went three days in the wilderness and found no water” (Exodus 15:22). And the worship which poured out effortlessly from the lips of the redeemed quickly congeals in discontent when they are led into the desert. “The whole congregation of Israel grumbled . . . in the wilderness” for lack of food (Exodus 16:2). The psalmist later offers an inspired interpretation of the people’s true sin: “They spoke against God, saying, ‘Can God spread a table in the wilderness?’ . . . They did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power” (Psalm 78:19, 22).

Why Assumptions Can Be Hazardous To The Truth Of Christianity | Cold Case Christianity

As a skeptic, I was slow to accept even the slightest possibility that miracles were possible. My commitment to naturalism prevented me from considering such nonsense. But after my experience with presuppositions at the crime scene, I decided that I needed to be fair with my naturalistic inclinations. I couldn’t begin with my conclusion, and if the evidence pointed to the reasonable existence of God, this certainly opened up the possibility of the miraculous. If God did exist, He was the creator of everything we see in the universe. He, therefore, created matter from nonmatter, life from nonlife; He created all time and space. God’s creation of the universe would certainly be nothing short of … miraculous. If there was a God who could account for the beginning of the universe, lesser miracles (say, walking on water or healing the blind) might not even be all that impressive. If I was going to learn the truth about the existence of a miraculous God, I needed to at least lay down my presuppositions about the miraculous. My experience at crime scenes has helped me to do just that. This doesn’t mean that I now rush to supernatural explanations every time I fail to find an easy or quick natural explanation.

Apologetics Guided Reading: Historical Apologetics Read-Along

I am going to lead a read-through of a historical apologetics work,  Manual of Christian Evidences  by George Park Fisher . Why choose this book? There are a few reasons. First, it is public domain and therefore available for free through various online formats (including getting it on your Kindle or other e-reading formats). Second, it provides a good framework for understanding the historical development of apologetics from its time (late 19th century) until now. Third, it introduces a few arguments that most people familiar with modern apologetics will find novel, thus showing the importance of exploring historical apologetics. Finally, fourth, I’ve already been doing a read-along of the book in the Facebook group, “Dead Apologists Society,” and I can both tie this discussion back to that group and also use what I’ve been writing up there for this.

Kindle Deals of the Day in Christianity and Apologetics: William Lane Craig, Ravi Zacharias, and more!

Ravi Zacharias was born in India and has literally moved from the East to the West and the West to the East and repeated the cycle again and again to answer skeptics’ questions about whether God is alive, who Jesus is, what is truth, and whether we can really find absolutes. Ravi has spoken of his own journey only in bits and pieces in his other books and talks. It is a journey that has led him beyond his family and culture into a revelation that replaced pantheism with monotheism, and into a relationship with a God the vast majority of his people do not worship. From this new understanding birthed in him by the founder of Christianity, Ravi has gone forward to teach as one of our generation’s great apologists.

Evolution and the “Convictions of a Monkey’s Mind”

There are lots of great critiques of Plantinga’s argument out there. Suffice it to say, his argument rests on a very naive and simplistic understanding of evolution and a failure to take game theory into account. He brings up arguments such as a caveman who only runs away from predators because he thinks they’re playing chase with him! Plantinga also doesn’t seem to understand how the scientific method works – it is designed to overcome bias and false notions. If he wants to argue that our belief that the scientific method works could simply be a ‘useful delusion’ then he’s basically arguing that every observable aspect of reality could be a delusion. For example, he’s saying that me thinking I’m using a computer right now could be a delusion, or that when I talked to my mother yesterday about a Skype conversation we’d had the week before, we were both having a shared delusion.

37 http://www.truthbomb.blogspot.com/2016/04/book-review-new-kind-of-apologist.html

Introduction I greatly enjoy watching superhero movies.  Whether it is Spider-man battling Doc Ock or Batman struggling to stop the Joker from waging war on Gotham, these films are greatly entertaining and tell us much about our culture. However, there are times in these films when a series of threats arise that are too powerful for just one hero to fight.  In these situations, various heroes with unique talents and abilities must be assembled to face the assorted dangers. Most would agree that we are in a culture war.  The battles being waged are both within the church and without.  How do we communicate the truth of the gospel to a post-modern world?  How do we motivate fellow believers to engage in apologetics? How can one thoughtfully respond to the increasingly hostile attacks aimed at the Bible?  How do we discuss our Christian convictions with those who hold different religious views? In A New Kind of Apologist , Sean McDowell takes on the role of Nic Fury and assembles some of the finest thinkers and apologists writing and speaking today to address some of the most critical issues facing the church.

Objections to Apologetics: It’s not nice.

. . . we don’t like to do it. Let’s be honest. We simply do not like to confront people. In fact, some of us would rather be slapped in the face than have to tell people their worldview is wrong. Nor is this necessarily a sign of weakness on the part of the Christian.

Does Islam Need a Luther?

While living in the Middle East, I was profoundly moved by hearing Christians in a closed Muslim country profess love for their country—the same one killing people like them. If these persecuted Christians can feel this way, American Christians can certainly be proud patriots too. Yet the “made in America” stamp pales in comparison to the one that reads “God’s handiwork.” And as Christians we’re taught to love even our enemies (Matt. 5:44), regardless of their citizenship.

43
Pakistani Christians in the Crosshairs

Since Christians are less than two percent of Pakistan’s estimated 190 million people, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the attack killed Muslims as well as Christians. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was outraged and after visiting victims in hospital, declared that, “Our resolve as a nation and as a government is getting stronger and the cowardly enemy is trying for soft targets.”

Sin Deceives You to Destroy You

Peter uses the same language in 1 Peter 1:14, “Do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance.” Same word, “the desires of your former ignorance.” They are desires that are in sync with lies. Paul calls them “deceitful desires” in Ephesians 4:22. A deceitful desire is a desire that’s lying to you. What is it saying to you? It’s saying that if you steal, or if you look at pornography, or if you’re mean and get the last word today at work, you’d be happier. Life would be better.

"Apologetics helped rebuild my faith in Christ, and I became convinced of its absolute necessity for student discipleship.  That's right, I said necessity .  Apologetics is not optional in a post-Christian culture.  It's not just for the nerdy youth group kid 'who's into that kind of stuff.' God is a rational God, and we are made in his image.  Therefore, every student is rational by design, instinctively gathering reasons and evidence as they seek to make sense of the world around them and form a coherent set of beliefs about reality.  As the church equips a new generation for the cause of Christ, we must begin with the conviction apologetics is an indispensable tool." 1 Courage and Godspeed, Chad Footnote: 1. Sean McDowell, A New Kind of Apologist, p. 88.

Should More US Churches Host Mandarin-Language Services?

Chinese churches also need help finding and training pastors. “Half of our churches that have Mandarin congregations don’t have pastors, so they are led by elders,” said Alejandro Mandes, national director of immigrant missions for the Evangelical Free Church of America. One reason: “Chinese immigrants want their kids to excel in education,” he said. “As a result, many of them do not want their kids to become pastors, because—in their minds—pastors don’t get paid as well as doctors, lawyers, and engineers.”
