This 'Veggie Tales' St. Patrick's Day Clip Provides a Delightful Primer on the Holiday

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, a day many Americans recognize by wearing green, randomly decorating things with shamrocks and partying. But the holiday has significant religious implications, especially for Christians. So, what better way to learn about the history St. Patrick than through this 20

3 In Defense of Christian Apologetics

In this age of easily accessible books, television shows, blogs, and YouTube videos, Christian apologetics (or the giving of a well-reasoned defense of the Christian faith) has evolved from something that was once considered solely for academics (and nerds) to something that is both widely admired and studied by individuals of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds.

Abortion and the New Eugenics | Evolution News

Technological advances in prenatal testing pose difficult moral choices about what, if any, genetic anomaly or defect justifies an abortion. Nearsightedness? Being short? There are creepy, eugenic aspects of the new technology that call for vigorous public debate. But in the end, the Constitution mandates — and a proper understanding of the rights of the individual against those of the state underscores — that these excruciating choices be left to individual women, not to government officials who believe they know best.

Will God Ever Do Anything about Oppression?

The justice and deliverance that we see in Daniel 5 is a microcosm of a much larger narrative. It is the narrative of the coming of the kingdom of God in Jesus Christ. This is the big story Daniel wants to tell, the story of the coming cosmic victory of the kingdom of God.

What is the Most Recent Manuscript Count for the New Testament?

Scholars use different sources, such as the Leuven Database or the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts . It is extremely laborious to track down the number of both classical and biblical manuscripts. We had a team of researchers and scholars help us with this endeavor. Still, for a variety of reasons, these numbers are educated guesses. [1]

Why Christians Hold Truth in High Regard | Cold Case Christianity

This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may fight the good fight, keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith. Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered over to Satan, so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.

Lee Strobel Asks, "Are Miracles Real and Still Happening?" | The Stream

What one should look at is the circumstances in which and the people to whom God performs a miracle to. How did the miracle change the person and to those who witnessed it? God does not perform miracles for show or simply because we ask. The Lord’s mIracles speak to the very depth of our heart and soul. I’ve witnessed the power of a miracle and am also a recipient of one. Miracles are transforming, a display of the magnificent power of God.

This is Us and Biblical Manhood | Think Christian

This Is Us exposes the lie that the most significant accomplishment for a man revolves around his sexual escapades or his career success. A father and husband’s significance is found in sacrifice, especially for the sake of his family. That is biblical manhood. When Jack’s life abruptly ended, his wife and kids didn’t treasure the material gifts he had provided. What lived on in their memories were the everyday interactions of sacrifice and love that they experienced with a caring husband and father. Ephesians encourages husbands to follow Christ’s example of caring for his church, giving up his own life for it. Time and again on This is Us , that is exactly what Jack does for his family.

Earth-Like Planets? Not Quite | Stand to Reason

Of course any one of these criteria, or even all three, does not actually give us a true Earth-like planet. We know that our moon is in the correct location to contain liquid water, but it is not “Earth-like.” We know Venus is about the size of the earth, but it is not “Earth-like.” We know that Mercury is rocky and not gaseous, but it is not “Earth-like.” So none of these criteria really give an Earth-like planet. Headlines and sound-bites are not meant to be precise but to draw attention, and it is much more exciting to proclaim an “Earth-like” planet has been found rather than a “Venus-like” planet (if even that could be claimed).

Q & A With Dr. Craig: Knowledge of God and His Will

Dr. Craig: Boy, well I try to give Wagner a straight-forward answer in the question of the week. When we're dealing with people in a counseling situation, however, a straight-forward answer is not always the most tactful. Paul says that we should speak the truth in love. And so in dealing with a delicate situation like this one, where a father is talking with his own son, it may be that one doesn't unload with the straight-forward truth, but one attempts to ask questions or to elicit what the other person is feeling. And I would say, in a case like this, the young man is a twenty-six year-old adult. We're not dealing here anymore with a teenager. And so he needs to be treated as such. And I suppose I would only tell him that his unbelief is culpable, which is what I said to Wagner, if he asks me straightforwardly, 'is unbelief going to be judged by God? Is unbelief a sin?' I would say, well, yes it is according to the Bible; unbelief is a serious sin and it will be judged by God. But the real question for his son is 'are there good reasons to believe in God?' 'Are there persuasive reasons to disbelieve in God?' And I think he could focus with the son on those questions rather than on the culpability of the son's unbelief.

The Moral Argument for the Existence of God - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

1. If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist. 2. Objective moral values and duties do exist. 3. Therefore, God exists. Premises 1 and 2 “What makes this argument so compelling is not only that it is logically airtight but also that people generally believe both premises. In a pluralistic age, people are afraid of imposing their values on someone else. So premise 1 seems correct to them. Moral values and duties are not objective realities (that is, valid and binding independent of human opinion) but are merely subjective opinions ingrained into us by biological evolution and social conditioning. At the same time, however, people do believe deeply that certain moral values and duties such as tolerance, open-mindedness, and love are objectively valid and binding. They think it’s objectively wrong to impose your values on someone else! So they’re deeply committed to premise 2 as well.” –WLC Read this two or three times until you fully understand what’s happening here. If you impose your moral values on someone else (admitting objective morals), you have committed yourself to Premise 2.

The Necessity of Apologetics: A Plan to Implement | Crossings Ministries

Paul tells Timothy, “Do you best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Tim 2:15, ESV). This truth seems obvious. However, there is a temptation today to just buy a pre-packaged teaching kit, throw on a video, do some discussion questions, and call it a day without extensive study. There are some serious problems with ignoring the Bible’s command to study and instead, taking a shortcut. First, it is in direct disobedience to the command of Scripture. Second, to be a good shepherd of your students, you need to have a working knowledge of apologetics, because they are looking to you for answers. If you are not ready for their questions, that will hurt your ministry to them. This doesn’t mean you have to know everything, but it does mean that you have a general knowledge so your students can have confidence in your understanding of apologetics and how it has gripped your heart.    Third, pastors are to equip the saints (Eph 4:12) and the saints are to be prepared make a defense to anyone who asks them for a reason for the hope that is in them (1 Pet 3:15).

Who Was St. Patrick?

We now celebrate St. Patrick’s Day each year on the anniversary of his death, March 17. Originally, this was strictly an Irish feast day in the Roman Catholic Church to commemorate the patron saint of Ireland. However, Irish immigrants coming to North America brought the tradition with them, and it is now widely celebrated each year. Sadly, few people remember the devoted missionary who stands behind the St. Patrick’s Day tradition.

Our urgent need today is to reunite evangelism and apologetics

Almost all our witnessing and Christian communication assumes that people are open to what we have to say, or at least are interested, if not in need of what we are saying. Yet most people quite simply are not open, not interested and not needy, and in much of the advanced modern world fewer people are open today than even a generation ago. Indeed, many are more hostile, and their hostility is greater than the Western church has faced for centuries…Our urgent need today is to reunite evangelism and apologetics, to make sure that our best arguments are directed toward winning people and not just winning arguments, and to seek to do all this in a manner that is true to the gospel itself.

Sex-Abuse Allegations and the Egalitarian Myth

My point in that article and in this podcast is that the egalitarian assumptions in our culture, and to a huge degree in the church, have muted — silenced, nullified — one of the means that God has designed for the protection and the flourishing of women. It has silenced the idea that men as men — by virtue of their created, God-given maleness, apart from any practical competencies that they have or don’t have — men have special responsibilities to care for and protect and honor women. This call is different from the care and protection and honor that women owe men. That’s my thesis. That’s my point.

What About the Lost Gospels? With J. Warner Wallace — The Alisa Childers Podcast #17

Did you know that the New Testament Gospels weren't the only ancient texts written about the life of Jesus? How do we know that our biblical Gospels tell the truth about what Jesus did and said? Is the only reason we can't find these other Gospels in our Bibles because they were lost or suppressed? Is there anything we can learn from these extra-biblical accounts? I tackle these questions and more with my guest J. Warner Wallace on today's podcast. *Correction: in the podcast I stated that there are close to 6000 manuscripts for the gospels but that is actually the number for the New Testament as a whole. Sorry for any confusion.

Can Christians Answer One Simple Question?

Why are you a Christian? As a youth pastor and professor at a Christian college, I ask this question to all of my students. The typical answer in response is nothing but a blank stare. After a little coaxing, sometimes I get answers like “’cause I was born in ‘Merica!” With that I respond, “Oh, so if you were born in Afghanistan, then you would be a Muslim?” The blank stare typically returns.

Remember Saint Patrick

Deep beneath much of what the day has become is the inspiring mission of Patrick pioneering the gospel among an unreached people, despite the frowning face of the church establishment. Saint Patrick’s Day, in its truest meaning, is not about avoiding the lost, but bringing them good news. It turns out Saint Paddy’s Day really is for the pagans.

Why your personality shapes everything you do in ministry — Southern Equip

Indeed, the diversity of the many-membered body of Christ consists of more than our differences in personality, but certainly not less. Our spiritual gifts, according to the New Testament, are often marked by dispositional differences as varied as administration and generosity, zeal and mercy, teaching and tenderness (e.g., Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12:28). The full-bodied church of Jesus Christ is full-bodied not because we all cast off our personalities and recast ourselves in the perfect personality of the God-man, but because we embrace the God-man by faith and seek to channel the strong current of his holy love through the God-given banks of our personalities. We are the body of Christ best “when each part is working properly,” because the body is “joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped” (Eph. 4:15-16).

The Mass They Made: What Catholics Believe About Worship

But why does the Lord’s Supper have to be administered by a Catholic priest or bishop? Because, third, the Roman Catholic Church believes in transubstantiation: when a priest or bishop consecrates the bread and wine — and only Catholic priests and bishops can rightly sanctify these elements — the substance of the bread becomes the actual body of Jesus Christ, and the substance of the wine, his blood. Specifically, the once-and-for-all sacrifice of Christ on Calvary is re-presented at the Mass as a bloodless sacrifice, in which the Catholic faithful take part by eating the bread (Christ’s body) and drinking the wine (Christ’s blood). Because Protestants strongly disagree with transubstantiation, the Lord’s Supper that we celebrate is invalid according to the Roman Catholic Church.

Doesn’t the Bible Tell Christians to Put Homosexuals to Death?

Now that is the kind of book the Bible is. It was written under God’s inspiration over a period of 1,500 years or so through various periods where God dealt with his people in different ways. Not everything that the Bible designed for God’s people Israel under the judges or under the kings or that God designs for Christians under the apostles in the New Testament is the same. Putting to death adulterers, putting to death homosexuals, putting to death the sons who curse their parents, all these penalties belonged to a particular season in the history of God’s dealings with his covenant people, and those dealings have changed dramatically with the coming of God’s Son Jesus Christ into the world. That is the basic nature of the Bible and of redemptive history that we need to get across to our critics.
