Abortion and the New Eugenics | Evolution News

Technological advances in prenatal testing pose difficult moral choices about what, if any, genetic anomaly or defect justifies an abortion. Nearsightedness? Being short? There are creepy, eugenic aspects of the new technology that call for vigorous public debate. But in the end, the Constitution mandates — and a proper understanding of the rights of the individual against those of the state underscores — that these excruciating choices be left to individual women, not to government officials who believe they know best.

4 In Defense of Christian Apologetics

In this age of easily accessible books, television shows, blogs, and YouTube videos, Christian apologetics (or the giving of a well-reasoned defense of the Christian faith) has evolved from something that was once considered solely for academics (and nerds) to something that is both widely admired and studied by individuals of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds.

This is Us and Biblical Manhood | Think Christian

This Is Us exposes the lie that the most significant accomplishment for a man revolves around his sexual escapades or his career success. A father and husband’s significance is found in sacrifice, especially for the sake of his family. That is biblical manhood. When Jack’s life abruptly ended, his wife and kids didn’t treasure the material gifts he had provided. What lived on in their memories were the everyday interactions of sacrifice and love that they experienced with a caring husband and father. Ephesians encourages husbands to follow Christ’s example of caring for his church, giving up his own life for it. Time and again on This is Us , that is exactly what Jack does for his family.

Why Generation Z is less Christian than ever -- and why that's good news

Many Christian teens are simply unprepared for the world that is waiting for them. With the best of intentions, we bubble wrap our kids and create Disney World–like environments for them in our churches, and then wonder why they have no resilience in faith or life. Students are entertained but not prepared. They’ve had a lot of fun but are not ready to lead. When the pressure to conform is turned up, Christian teenagers tend to wilt if they do not have the confidence that only comes from knowing why they believe what they believe. As one teenager told me, “following Jesus today is hard because sometimes you feel like the only one.”

William Lane Craig explains why he is not a Catholic

Bishop Robert Barron and William Lane Craig discuss evangelism, faith and science, secularism, and more. Moderated by Professor Stephen Davis and Professor Edward Feser. Venue: The Claremont Center for Reason, Religion, and Public Affairs. William Lane Craig is Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology and Professor of Philosophy at Houston Baptist University. He and his wife Jan have two grown children. A Case for the Bible 101: Manuscript Evidence Part 1, A Few Important Facts

If you put 10 people in a room and gave them a subject to write about what would you expect the outcome to be? Would you expect them to have the same theme, ideas, storyline, and conclusions? Would they have the same personal beliefs and views on the topic and write with the same convictions? The odds fall strongly in favor of no, but that is not what we see in the Bible:

What is the Most Recent Manuscript Count for the New Testament?

Scholars use different sources, such as the Leuven Database or the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts . It is extremely laborious to track down the number of both classical and biblical manuscripts. We had a team of researchers and scholars help us with this endeavor. Still, for a variety of reasons, these numbers are educated guesses. [1]

Can Christians Answer One Simple Question?

Why are you a Christian? As a youth pastor and professor at a Christian college, I ask this question to all of my students. The typical answer in response is nothing but a blank stare. After a little coaxing, sometimes I get answers like “’cause I was born in ‘Merica!” With that I respond, “Oh, so if you were born in Afghanistan, then you would be a Muslim?” The blank stare typically returns.

You Can Ban All the Symbols but Without God There Wouldn't Be a Classroom

So, while school officials and teachers reason with one another about religious symbols that point to the existence of God, let's remind them that their ability to freely evaluate their options requires the existence of God. As they freely (and increasingly) remove these symbols of God from the classroom, let's remind them that their ability to do so required God's gift of free agency. They can ban all the symbols they want, but without God, there wouldn't be any ability to reason, nor any need for classrooms.

Presidential Biographies: John Quincy Adams #6

Most obviously, JQA was the son of President John Adams. He greatly admired his father, though as I observed in the look at John Adams, his father was something of an absentee father. Some of the personality traits of the father passed to the son, and at times JQA seemed aloof and uncaring of the problems of even those close to him. One example is that when he was engaged to his wife, Louisa, he wrote urging her to break off the engagement if she felt it would be better for her. I suspect that Louisa did not take the letter as kindly as it may have been intended. In any case, even in his early life, he traveled to Europe to study abroad. Later, he became the United States Foreign Minister to Russia. He was supremely successful in this role and Louisa certainly contributed to some of this success. One example of the difficulty facing him in this role would be to look at the budget. The French Minister to Russia had a budget of about 300,000 per annum, while JQA’s own budget was $9,000. Despite this, JQA formed close ties with the Czar and managed to leverage this advantage for the sake of the young United States.

Evidence of Exodus

Is there any tangible, non-Biblical support for the story of the Exodus? Or has archaeology proven such a thing never happened? Many critics claim there is no evidence of large slave populations in Egypt, or bones of Israelites in the desert near Sinai, from the necessary time periods. As usual, those claims have no basis in fact, and there is substantial archaeological evidence which fits nicely with the Biblical narrative.

Teaching Your Children to Redeem the Culture

Well, if you don’t have a relationship upfront, it makes it a lot more difficult. And that’s why so many times in the book, in a culture that gets in the way of face time and gets in the way of relationships, we have got to fight for that for our kids, so when those moments come, there’s a whole lot in the bank account to withdraw from. But then I’d also say, Jim, I love your advice there about, you know, being vulnerable. If we portray that we don’t make mistakes, if we don’t share our mistakes - I’ll tell you, one of the most powerful pieces of advice I ever got from a father of daughters. He had wonderful daughters. I taught him at a college level. And I met him, and I said how did - you know, what happened? He goes, “One of the things that I realized early on is I have an anger problem. So I’d blow up in front of my kids.” And he said, “I realized that I needed to not only say I’m sorry to them, but that they needed to see me get on my knees and repent. I didn’t go into the bedroom and repent to God for my anger problem.

Mike Pompeo Is an Excellent Choice for Secretary of State

Pompeo is well positioned to drive U.S. foreign policy at a time when the world’s superpower faces an array of global challenges, ranging from the specter of a nuclear-armed Iran to the rising menace posed by Vladimir Putin’s Russia. His priorities must be to strengthen America’s alliances, confront key adversaries that include state-based actors and Islamist terror networks, and reassure America’s friends that the United States stands with them.

Will God Ever Do Anything about Oppression?

The justice and deliverance that we see in Daniel 5 is a microcosm of a much larger narrative. It is the narrative of the coming of the kingdom of God in Jesus Christ. This is the big story Daniel wants to tell, the story of the coming cosmic victory of the kingdom of God.

The Path to Short-Lived Greatness

In every culture throughout history, servants have been those who, by virtue of birth or circumstances, have been forced to spend much of their lives pursuing the good of someone else above their own. The vast majority of servants have occupied the lower tiers of social status. And while a servant might aspire to a more socially recognized and rewarded level of servitude, it has been extremely rare that a free person would aspire to servanthood. In almost every human culture, servanthood is not the path to greatness. The best servants can hope for is to serve great people (Matthew 20:25).

Sex-Abuse Allegations and the Egalitarian Myth

My point in that article and in this podcast is that the egalitarian assumptions in our culture, and to a huge degree in the church, have muted — silenced, nullified — one of the means that God has designed for the protection and the flourishing of women. It has silenced the idea that men as men — by virtue of their created, God-given maleness, apart from any practical competencies that they have or don’t have — men have special responsibilities to care for and protect and honor women. This call is different from the care and protection and honor that women owe men. That’s my thesis. That’s my point.

Does Truth and Evidence Even Matter to this New Generation?

First, young people are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). And part of being made in the image of God is having minds that are designed to understand and navigate the world. This is a universal truth about human beings. In my talk, “True for You, but Not True for Me,” I try to help student see that they base their daily decisions (sometimes even moment-by-moment decisions) on what they think is true: What time does class start? What assignments are due? Where is practice after school? And so on. As image-bearers, young people are designed to live their lives based on what they think is true.
