If There is Such Good Evidence for God, Why Don't More People Believe?

This Is Apologetics: An Argument from Christian Hypocrisy

The objection that Christians are hypocrites, and therefore Christianity must be false, borrows from the very Christian worldview. By presupposing objective morality, the objection presupposes the very God it aims to disprove.

Science and God

“Science has buried God!” an atheist friend remarked to me. That’s a claim I hear ever more frequently in the media, online, or on the lips of celebrity atheists. A few years ago I had the chance to interview one of the UK’s leading atheists, Dr. Peter Atkins of Oxford University, who put it bluntly: “Science gives you the promise of understanding while you’re alive. Religion offers the prospect of understanding when you’re dead.”

How do You Choose a Religion?

Hey, I gotta question!" yelled a student from the back of the room. I was sharing the claims of Christ at a University of Massachusetts fraternity house when he interrupted me. "Yes, what is it?" I queried. "I think Jesus is great for you, but I know Buddhists and Muslims, and they're just as sincere as you are. And they think their views are true just like you do. There's no way a person can know his religion is the 'right' one, so the best thing to do is to just believe everyone's religion is true for them and not judge anyone."

If this keeps up, there will be a social expectation created that suicide is the right and proper way out — and not just for those with terminal illnesses, as we have seen in other countries. The case for the martyrdom of the apostles

Starhopper, the original post was about the apostles. What were they talking about mainly? Belief in God in general? Deep philosophical discussions on the meaning of life or how we got here? Not really, right? They were people who were convinced that someone had just magically came back to life. That's what you believe in. If you want to call this miraculous instead, that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that there is literally no difference between that and magic, from an outsider's perspective. You claim it's different because you are compartmentalizing your beliefs. So yes, semantics matter, but can also be used as a tool to avoid answering the tough questions. But let me ask you an honest (yet old) question. When you say "If you want a more scholarly (and, to be honest, enjoyable) take on the Resurrection..." my instant reaction is 'of course not'. Why should I care about about? So to be more precise, my old question is, and it's always been the same: why should I believe claims about miraculous events based only on books? Now, I already know there will be nothing coming out of that question, so I will have nothing further to say on that topic, but it will be interesting to see if you, by miracle (pun intended), have a different answer.

Adam and the Genome and the Evolution of the Genetic Code | Evolution News

Indeed, Venema is aware of Meyer and Nelson’s technical paper. He doesn’t mention it in the body of Adam and the Genome , so most readers will have no idea that Meyer co-authored a detailed, technical rebuttal to the very evidence Venema is discussing. However, Venema does mention Meyer and Nelson’s paper in an endnote buried at the back of the book. There, he claims that Meyer and Nelson are wrong to argue that “the binding affinities observed between some amino acids and their codons or anticodons are merely an artifact of Yarus’s experimental design.” (p. 207) Venema writes: “This claim, however, is not supported by the evidence that Yarus and his colleagues present in their numerous publications.” But he provides no details or citations to Yarus’s other work to explain why Meyer and Nelson are wrong. At present, Venema’s counter-claim appears to be an unbacked assertion, and Meyer and Nelson’s concerns stand.

Why Did a “Good” God Create Hell?

Al, you begin with the statement, “Many people today accuse God of unfairness.” Not really, they attack your philosophy of god because it doesn’t make sense. They are questioning your logic and the logic of the bible. Al, a good god did not create hell. Ancient, barbaric, ignorant, fearful men created hell. Men like those which currently populate ISIS. Men, who understood the controlling power of the emotion of fear created the concept of hell. Ask yourself, if god is so beautiful, so attractive, so desirable, why the need for the coercive element of fear? Your article is just a poor rationalization for the fact that you have fallen in love with an imaginary being that you believe will in the future horribly torture most every creature that has ever lived. And, you’re asking us to join you in your neurosis. Becoming a Christian is not a free will choice. It is a choice between obedience and torture. What kind of choice is that? Did your parents ever tell you that you could love and obey them or they would chain you to the wall in the basement and torture you? And if you did decide to “love” them under those conditions would that really be love? That’s a very twisted sort of love.

1. Unique in Authorship . The Bible was written by roughly forty different people from a whole range of backgrounds. Biblical writers include almost every type of person: wise and foolish, faithful and treacherous, rich and poor, innocent and guilty, and young and old.

The Commitment of the Apostles Confirms the Truth of the Resurrection

Many of us, as committed Christians, would rather die than reject our Savior. Around the world today, Christians are executed regularly because they refuse to deny their allegiance to Jesus or the truth claims of Christianity. But their deaths, while heartbreaking and compelling, have no evidential value. Many people are willing to die for what they don’t know is a lie. Martyrdom doesn’t confirm the truth, especially when the martyrs don’t have first-hand access to the claim for which they’re dying. But this wasn’t the case for the disciples of Jesus. They were in a unique position: they knew if the claims about Jesus were true. They were present for the life, ministry, death and alleged resurrection of Jesus. If the claims about Jesus were a lie, the disciples would have known it (in fact they would have been the source of the lie). That’s why their commitment to their testimony was (and is) so compelling. Unlike the rest of us, their willingness to die for their claims has tremendous evidential value. In fact, the commitment of the apostles confirms the truth of the resurrection.

When Should We Vent over Social Sins?

We should express anger — appropriate, well grounded, limited, controlled, real anger — not just over the horror of abortion, but for the poor in countries where corruption in leaders lines the pockets of the rich, but leaves the poor with no powers of productivity or angry at police corruption when you see a man shot in the back by police when he is running away or a woman tasered to death while handcuffed and shackled in prison or any number of injustices in the world. If we show a suitably expressed anger, maybe we will be bearing witness to the fullness of God’s concerns rather than show a narrow partisan kind of anger.

5 friends every pastor needs — Southern Equip

However, if you spend time with a non–seminary friend, you’ll be reminded that the pastorate is far from the only profession that steals sleep. For example, your businessman friend might tell you about the list of people corporate told him to lay off a couple weeks before Christmas. And not unlike some of the burdens you carry, he can’t seem to shake their faces or situations while sitting at the dinner table with his family. Or if you think that former denominational worker was difficult to deal with, wait until your banking friend tells you about the manipulative tactics a group of unbelievers came up with in their ongoing office wars.

There would be no church without the risen Jesus

None of [the] major figures who constituted the inner circle of Jesus would have become or remained followers of Jesus after the crucifixion if there was no resurrection and no resurrection appearances of Jesus. The church, in the persons of its earliest major leaders, was constituted by the event of the resurrection, coupled with the Pentecost event! The stories of these figures, especially their post-Easter stories, are the validation of this fact. There would be no church without the risen and appearing Jesus.

How Apologetics Can Fuel the Spiritual Disciplines | Stand to Reason

This is not to say our conviction of the truth of Christianity comes entirely from apologetics. I don’t think that’s the case. The Holy Spirit removes the spiritual obstacles preventing us from seeing the truth of Christianity. We see the glory of God and His Gospel directly in His revelation and recognize its reality. God reveals Himself to be trustworthy over time as He works in our lives. But as long as we are living as fallen creatures, we will have to combat our tendency to wander with reminders of the truth.

A Scandalous Mission

A scandal is something that causes general public outrage by a perceived offense against morality, a law, or the social norm. Jesus’ course of action at the well offended the Jewish sensibilities of His disciples. This shows us the culture-challenging power of the mission of Christ. His mission extends beyond societal prejudices and reaches across human-derived divisions. Let’s briefly consider three areas in which Jesus’ mission challenges cultural norms by reaching across dividing lines.
