Apologetics in the Manner of Jesus
The picture presented in the context of I Peter 3:15 is that of disciples who are devoted to promoting what is good, but are being persecuted for it. Their response, as Jesus had taught them, was to "rejoice and be glad." And that led those looking on to inquire how the disciples could be joyous and hopeful in such circumstances. This question would, of course, be inevitable in an angry, hopeless and joyless world. So the disciples were charged by Peter to "be ready to help people understand the hope that is in them, but with gentleness and fear" (vs. 15), and always with a clear conscience that one has done what is right. (vs. 16)

How to falsify a religion using scientific or historical evidence
What I often see among atheists is this tendency to set up expectations of how God would have acted and then complain that he doesn’t met those expectations. I don’t think that this is a good way to argue against a religion, because it’s subjective. God isn’t obligated to comport with atheist expectations. A much better way of evaluating religions is to test the claims each makes against evidence.

Why Francis Schaeffer Matters: The Church in Culture
Francis Schaeffer’s view of the church in modern culture is multifaceted yet cuts straight to the point. He does not mince words or play clever evangelical games. He believes one major problem with Christians is that they see things in bits and pieces. They have failed to see that modern man’s despair has come to fruition because of a shift in worldview. He contends that Christians should begin to think in terms of the big picture. They should have a view of spiritual reality that is authentic and covers all areas of life. Indeed, the Lordship of Christ covers all life and all life equally.

No, El Shaddai Does Not Mean ‘God With Breasts’ | The Stream
In short, you have to rewrite the Bible in order to remove “gendered language for God.” And there is a difference between praying to the Heavenly Mother rather than the Heavenly Father. (In other words, gender differences are important and intentional.) And if a non-gendered God wanted us to pray to it (?) as the Heavenly Parent, then it (or, they?) would have said so.

Are You Guilty of This Common Apologetic Error?
Christian apologists often respond to the Problem of Evil by pointing out that atheism has its own problem of evil. There’s a good case to be made here. The problem is, frequently I hear Christian apologists making a bad one instead. So this is a bit of internal correction I want to offer my friends on a common apologetic error

Christianity is Hard and Easy
The ordinary idea which we all have before we become Christians is this. We take as starting point our ordinary self with its various desires and interests. We then admit that something else call it “morality” or “decent behavior,” or “the good of society” has claims on this self: claims which interfere with its own desires. What we mean by “being good” is giving in to those claims…But we are hoping all the time that when all the demands have been met, the poor natural self will still have some chance, and some time, to get on with its own life and do what it likes. In fact, we are very like an honest man paying his taxes. He pays them all right, but he does hope that there will be enough left over for him to live on.

7 Principles of Technogesis
“If you want to know what water is, don’t ask a fish.” So goes the Chinese proverb. By extension, if you want to understand the strengths and weakness of American culture do not ask an America. Why is this? To walk through life, we must take some things for granted, such as driving on the right side of the road or standing in line at the grocery store. However, God calls us to be discerning citizens of heaven and earth. Worldliness is a constant danger. To paraphrase David Wells, worldliness makes the godly look odd and the ungodly seem normal. The way of the fallen world is the way of the unregenerate flesh and its works. Paul warns us to avoid the works of the flesh by being filled with the Spirit.

Heretic, Intelligent Design, and the Materialism of the Gaps | Evolution News
Consider an analogy. Imagine you have gone to visit the circular pattern of great stones on the Salisbury Plain in England known as Stonehenge. As you walk around it, admiring its geometrical precision and its relation to certain astronomically significant patterns, you comment to your traveling companions that clearly whoever designed and built Stonehenge was no dummy. At that moment, a stranger beside you turns to your little group and says, “Look here now, don’t lose your heads and start invoking ancient Druids or Beaker folk or mysterious Leprechauns with a rage for hauling massive stone pillars miles and miles cross country to this precise spot. The origin of Stonehenge surely has some purely material explanation. We just have to be patient enough to keep searching for it.”

In this previously recorded radio interview from The Ride Home with John and Kathy on WORDFM in Pittsburgh, J. Warner discusses the ancient non-canonical documents describing Jesus. A Prayer for A new generation of Christian apologists
I pray earnestly that God will raise up today a new generation of Christian apologists or Christian communicators, who will combine an absolute loyalty to the biblical gospel and an unwavering confidence in the power of the Spirit with a deep and sensitive understanding of the contemporary alternatives to the gospel; who will relate the one to the other with freshness, pungency, authority and relevance; and who will use their minds to reach other minds for Christ.

Argument from Desire and Abductive Reasoning
One way human beings clearly differ from the animals is in their inner existential longings. Many people describe experiencing an innermost yearning for a deeper meaning and purpose to life, and sometimes even a secret desire for God and eternal life. But why do people experience such longings? And do such existential yearnings reflect something more than mere human subjectivity?

How to Turn a Conversation Toward Spiritual Things
So, you’re hanging out with your friends and you would really like to share something about your faith…do you chicken out or do you take the plunge and, in a break in the conversation, dive right into the “Romans Road” or the 4 spiritual laws? Many people choose to chicken out because they assume that there are only two possibilities: remain silent or share the full Gospel with someone. Fortunately, there are easier and more natural ways to have a spiritual conversation with a friend.

Get Disciplined About Discipleship
The goal of the Church is not to create attenders, tithers or ministry participants. It is not even to create program volunteers, although that may overlap with the true goal. The great commission commands us to make disciples. Every church would accept this in principle. But what is the plan to make disciples? I think many churches just hope that it will happen. The pastor may teach on the importance of mentoring and then hope someone will get it and decide to mentor a new Christian. Many churches likely are seeking some discipleship goals through small groups. That can be a means but attending a small group does not equate discipleship. Most small groups (from my experience) are primarily about fellowship and support. Those are good things but they are not the same as discipleship…

FBI informant on Uranium One Breaks Silence Today | Sara A. Carter
An informant who spent years gathering information on the Russian energy and uranium market industry for the FBI, met staff members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, House Oversight, and House Intelligence Committees on Wednesday. He gave explosive testimony on his years as an undercover informant providing information to the FBI on Russian criminal networks operating in the United States. He also contends in his testimony, and written briefs, to the FBI that Russia attempted to hide its ongoing aid to help sustain Iran’s nuclear industry, at the time the Obama administration approved the sale of 20 percent of U.S. uranium mining rights to Russia.

When I think of John the Baptist, I think of a strong man of God, someone with unmatched faith. Other Biblical heroes have obvious flaws: Abraham’s cowardice, David’s lust, and Jonah’s rebellion. But John seems to be set apart from all of them.

Playground Apologetics: Apologetics Tactics for Busy Moms
Earlier this week I found myself caught in the morning line of cars leaving my neighborhood’s elementary school. I live with my husband and 3-year-old son in a suburb of San Antonio. We’re in south Texas and our “Mayberry” (as many call it) is incredibly conservative – and not just politically. We have a lot of churches. When I say “a lot,” I mean that we could put you in a blindfold at most any intersection in the city, give you a stone to throw, and you’d probably hit one. It’s Narnia, for sure. Or a bubble. Whatever you’d like to call it. So, you can imagine my surprise on Tuesday as I pulled up behind a big SUV boldly emblazoned with a lightbulb-shaped sticker and the words “skeptic kids.” There went my bubble.

Brokenness Is Not a Barrier
For years my wife, Gloria, and I prayed for the opportunity to plant a church in the Middle East. We even had a map with a square drawn around the downtown area of what was (at the time) one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. A pastor in a nearby region told us there was a need for a gospel-centered church in the heart of the city; we were compelled to pray that the need be filled.
After years of preparation, the time finally came. On August 23, 2008, we landed with our toddler on a steamy summer night. We were ready to change the world for Jesus.
After only a month in Arabia, however, everything fell apart.
Unexpected Pain
One day I was driving around the parking lot of a local mall, and as I made a left turn I felt a painful sensation in both my elbows. Soon after, boil-like wounds developed on my fingertips, and I lost use of much of my arms. I was unable to write, open a door, shake a hand, or get dressed. This pain wasn’t altogether new; I’d had surgery on both my arms before we moved overseas to relieve a nerve disorder.
But we thought I was healed. To see the painful disability return was a crushing blow.
