The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced on Thursday night that hundreds of former IRS official Lois Lerner’s previously “lost” backup tapes have been recovered, which could result in the recovery of a new trove of her emails. IRS Deputy Inspector General Timothy P. Camus told Rep.

New theory as to why matter predominates over antimatter | Uncommon Descent
The recent measurement of the Higgs boson mass implies a relatively slow rise of the Standard Model Higgs potential at large scales, and a possible second minimum at even larger scales. Consequently, the Higgs field may develop a large vacuum expectation value during inflation. The relaxation of the Higgs field from its large postinflationary value to the minimum of the effective potential represents an important stage in the evolution of the universe. During this epoch, the time-dependent Higgs condensate can create an effective chemical potential for the lepton number, leading to a generation of the lepton asymmetry in the presence of some large right-handed Majorana neutrino masses. The electroweak sphalerons redistribute this asymmetry between leptons and baryons. This Higgs relaxation leptogenesis can explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe even if the Standard Model is valid up to the scale of inflation, and any new physics is suppressed by that high scale. Shining a Light on Slavery at RZIM and Wellspring | Wellspring International
“Human trafficking is ultimately a reflection of the darkness and even the horrors found within the human heart. Until that issue is addressed, I think we will be at battle with its tragic symptoms, including various forms of modern slavery.” Naomi Zacharias, Director of Wellspring International, the humanitarian arm of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.
Facebook Obsession and the Anguish of Boredom
Many people who fall into sinful addictions are people who were once terminally bored. The reason why addictions are so powerful is that they tap into that place in our hearts that was made for transcendent communion and spiritual romance. These addictive habits either dull and deaden our yearnings for a satisfaction we fear we’ll never find, or they provide an alternative counterfeit fulfillment that we think will bring long-term happiness — counterfeits like cocaine, overeating, illicit affairs, busyness, efficiency, image, or obsession with physical beauty. They all find their power in the inescapable yearning of the human heart to be fascinated and pleased and enthralled. Our hearts will invariably lead us either to the fleeting pleasures of addiction or to God.
That scam is not difficult. Audiences are primed to believe that Will Smith and Margot Robbie belong together, regardless of external obstacles or the nature of their characters. It’s a narrative we just keep going back to in our love stories: Someone lies or at least doesn’t quite tell the truth, it causes confusion and misery, and we still get our “happily ever after.” A classic love story would at least mandate untangling the lies between them before the couple could wind up together, but in Focus , lying is actually the tie that binds.
3 Ways Social Media Benefits Church Leaders
Social media is a tool. A tool in the wrong hands is dangerous. A tool in good hands is extremely useful. Churches and leaders that remain absent from social media are not able to use this tool to expand the Kingdom.
Who Is the Holy Spirit?
Although the Holy Spirit is sometimes the forgotten Person of the Trinity, His presence and work is found throughout redemptive history. In this twelve-message series, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson traces the work of the third person of the Trinity through Scripture - from creation to the work of Christ to His dwelling in our hearts today. Along the way, he sheds light on the vital role the Holy Spirit serves. Dr. Ferguson’s goal is to help us know the Holy Spirit as a person, in addition to knowing of His power and work within us.
Prominent Chinese Christian Convert Accuses Another of Rape
Four years ago, Chai Ling, a leader in China's 1989 democracy movement, accused Yuan Zhiming, another student dissident, of raping her in her Princeton, New Jersey, apartment in 1990. Neither was a Christian at the time of the alleged assault, which occurred while they attended Princeton University under an initiative for Chinese student dissidents.
The Apologists Starter Kit with Lee Strobel, J Warner Wallace, and Greg Koukl
In his #1 best-seller The Case for Christ, legally trained investigative reporter Lee Strobel examined the claims of Christ, reaching the hard-won verdict that Jesus is God's unique son. But despite the compelling historical evidence that Strobel presented, many people grapple with serious concerns about faith in God. As in a court of law, they want to shout, "Objection!" They say, "If God is love, then what about all the suffering in our world?" Or, "If Jesus is the door to heaven, then what about the millions who have never heard of him?" Or, "If God cares for everyone, then why does he eternally torture some in hell?" In The Case for Faith, Strobel turns his tenacious investigative skills to the most persistent emotional objections to belief--the eight "heart" barriers to faith. The Case for Faith is for those who may be feeling attracted to Jesus but who are faced with formidable intellectual barriers standing squarely in their path. For Christians, it will deepen their convictions and give them fresh confidence in discussing Christianity with even their most skeptical friends.

C. S. Lewis and Selfies
Reflecting on C. S. Lewis' “The Screwtape Letters,” Patheos evangelical blogger Samuel James suggests that Lewis' senior demon endorsed this trend seventy years ago. Human “patients,” Screwtape tells his nephew, should be encouraged to give up the friends, food, books, and pastimes, they really enjoy for the “right” friends, the “right” food, the “right” books, the “right” pastimes—things they think will make them popular.

A new theory could solve an ancient mystery — and do away with God
But a new theory, proposed by a researcher at MIT and first reported in Quanta Magazine, proposes that when a group of atoms is exposed for a long time to a source of energy, it will restructure itself to dissipate more energy. The emergence of life might not be the luck of atoms arranging themselves in the right way, it says, but an inevitable event if the conditions are correct.
Hillary Clinton’s Top Aides Knew from First Minutes that Benghazi Was a Terrorist Attack, E-mails Disclose, by Andrew C. McCarthy, National Review
The revelations in the newly released e-mails were unveiled by Judicial Watch this afternoon at a press conference in Washington. In a press statement, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton asserted that the e-mails left “no doubt that Hillary Clinton’s closest advisers knew the truth about the Benghazi attack from almost the moment it happened.” Mr. Fitton further opined that “it is inescapable that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knowingly lied when she planted the false story about ‘inflammatory material being posted on the Internet.’ The contempt for the public’s right to know is evidenced not only in these documents but also in the fact that we had to file a lawsuit in federal court to obtain them.”

Counsel the Word
Parents often feel anything but confident. They know they are shaping lives, but feel they are only learning as they go. They also know the Bible is supposed to guide them, but feel uncertain how a handful of verses help them with this years-long task. The temptation is to be intimidated by both the importance and the complexity of the task.

Pastors, Prioritize Prayer
Do we feel unfruitful and discouraged? Not only must we remind ourselves that our Master is more interested in faithfulness than in statistics; we shall also be bold enough to ask if some of our unfruitfulness is the result of being diverted from the ministry of the Word and prayer. How much have we prayed for what is best—for a spiritual harvest, for conversions, for demonstrations of the fruit of the Spirit? Could it be that we have experienced little because we have asked for little? Is our unfruitfulness proportionate to our prayerlessness? Paul’s prayer knifes through so many of our excuses.
Is Legalism Killing Your Joy In Ministry?
Legalism is a ministry killjoy. It destroys the natural joy that comes from serving others in ministry like nothing else I’ve seen. I’ve seen more ministries ruined by legalism than anything else.

The Gospel in Mexico
It definitely encourages me to see a new generation of young people who are embracing the gospel with great passion and zeal. I know of many young church leaders with great hunger for sound doctrine and a great desire to be used by God in thier generation, which is similar to what happened in the 70s where many young people were converted and many churches were planted. For someone of my generation it is exciting to see this new generation to which we can entrust what God has built over the past 40 years.

We Need Less Goliath, and More Bathsheba | LIBERATE
When I was a kid, I roamed the alleys and nearby fields with a pocket full of pebbles and a slingshot in hand. My grandfather had carved me the slingshot from the fork of a mesquite tree, native to our New Mexico soil. I’d even burned my name into the wood using the sun and a magnifying glass. As you might expect, my favorite Sunday School story was David and Goliath. In my make-believe world, I was that boy from Bethlehem, and sparrows the Philistine giants. It felt good to be the hero who takes down the foe. I was but a boy. I was new to the world. I loved Bible stories about saints who conquered.
The Extreme Sport of Raising Money for a New Church Plant
Set a date and invite all financial partners and potential partners to a meeting in your city. For a successful Partner Meeting, you must plan it carefully and include times to socialize, like lunch or dinner, a vision tour of your area with possible locations you have researched, and a business meeting to discuss your master plan and financial requirements to launch your church. The church planter leads the Vision Tour and Master Plan presentation, and asks the “Anchor Partner” to lead the budget meeting. An Anchor Partner is already financially committed and can invite others to commit financially with them. If a partner does not commit at the meeting, then follow up one week after the meeting to ask for the commitment.
Too Frugal for Our Own Good?
Saving money is my badge of honor. It’s a skill I carefully honed out of necessity while our family paid off more than $127,000 in debt—an assortment of student loan debt, credit cards, car loans, medical debt, and more. I’ll use whatever coupons, codes, and deals I can to whittle away the retail price… and then proudly show everyone in the parking lot the evidence on my receipt. Yes, I’m one of those people who can coupon my way to paying little or nothing. I nicknamed myself (and my blog ), “Queen of Free.”
Taking Awareness About Human Trafficking to the Next Level
For some reason, prayer often becomes lost in the mix of so many other things. It’s strange, really, when we have a chance to talk directly with the God who has the power to literally move mountains. Take some time today to pray for an end to human trafficking. Pray for the victims who are caught in the web of trafficking schemes. Pray for the survivors who are trying to recover. Pray for the people on the front lines every day seeking to end human trafficking. Pray for a world that will value the life of a human over greed and power.
Hillary Clinton: It’s Not Enough to be a Woman, You Have to be Committed to Abortion
Clinton, at a pro-Braley rally, told voters in Iowa, “It’s not enough to be a woman, you have to be committed to expand rights and opportunities for all women.” Because Joni Ernst (who defeated Braley) thinks unborn babies should be protected, she isn’t committed to expanding rights and opportunities for women?

No, Despite Often-Heard Claims, Antibiotic Resistance in Bacteria Is Not Evolution
Antibiotic research and treatment is a carefully planned intelligently designed process of breeding the human microbiome (the aggregate of bacteria that live in a human being). The purpose of breeding the microbiome is to eliminate the bacteria causing the disease but to preserve the beneficial bacteria (and to preserve the patient). Of necessity some of the bacteria must survive the treatment -- the trick is to kill the pathological bacteria and leave only the beneficial bacteria alive. This cannot always be accomplished, and when it is not accomplished -- that is, when some of the bacteria left alive are pathological and not beneficial -- this is the development of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance in pathological bacteria is the undesirable consequence of the treatment of bacterial infections. It is not natural selection .
Every Sermon Should be On a Gospel Errand |
After preaching for over 20 years and teaching preaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for close to 10 years, I have observed that many sermons fall flat because they lack a cohesive unity of design and thought. Many preaching students think of preaching simply as providing biblical information, which often leads many preachers to conceive of their sermon notes as their sermon. I spend a great deal of time convincing my preaching students that sermons are an oral event. Sermon notes and outlines are not sermons; rightly understood, they are merely tools to aid the preacher in oral proclamation. The sermon is what is said and not what is written.
“Many of us have wondered at some point, ‘What would it be like to live when Jesus did?’ With purity to biblical truth and perceptive insight into how the human heart works, Russ Ramsey answers that question. He tells the story of Jesus dwelling among us—a story filled with political intrigue, baffling miracles, relational complexities, and heartbreaking suffering—by presenting old truths in engagingly fresh ways. Read this book! And then share it with others who need to witness Jesus anew.”

For me, I want to talk to people who are struggling at different places, learning different things, but on the same path. The night I was on the road for two hours, I spoke with Jared (fake name). Pastors Booted From Capitol Center Because Title of Racial Reconciliation Event Included 'An Appeal to Heaven'
Bishop Harry Jackson Jr., chairman of the High Impact Leadership Coalition and senior pastor of Hope Christian Church in Maryland, is now crying religious and racial discrimination after a group of pastors were booted from the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and forced to find a different venue for a racial reconciliation event in Washington D.C. because their theme included the phrase "an appeal to heaven."
The Lent Project
The mood of Lent can be beautifully captured through the arts, which are often cathartic expressions of longing, suffering, loneliness, love, death and rebirth. Art is a great chronicler both of the drama of human history and the aches of the human heart. In this spirit, the Biola University Center for Christianity, Culture and the Arts presents the Lent Project: a 54-day aesthetic meditation on Christ’s life, death and resurrection. Each day will offer a guided reflection--though Scripture, words, poetry, music, film or visual art--to help us focus in on the beauty of Christ’s story. May you enjoy, share and be edified by this resource as we collectively reflect on the suffering and triumph of history’s great savior: Messiah Jesus Christ, the King.
