Obama: 'Consequences' for ICE Officials Who Don't Follow Executive Amnesty

President Obama warned workers at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement: implement executive amnesty, or else. He made the comments in a town hall event on immigration on MSNBC. According to the White House pool report, President Obama was asked for reassurance that people wouldn't be deported as the legal battle over the executive amnesty plays out in the courts.

Moms, You’re Doing Better Than You Think | Jim Daly

It’s not hard to understand why so many moms struggle. They take their responsibilities as a mother seriously. Many put a lot of pressure on themselves to be a great parent who raises great kids. A lot of them even tell themselves, “If I do everything right, my kids will turn out well. But if I do anything wrong, they’ll fail.”

No, Despite Often-Heard Claims, Antibiotic Resistance in Bacteria Is Not Evolution

Antibiotic research and treatment is a carefully planned intelligently designed process of breeding the human microbiome (the aggregate of bacteria that live in a human being). The purpose of breeding the microbiome is to eliminate the bacteria causing the disease but to preserve the beneficial bacteria (and to preserve the patient). Of necessity some of the bacteria must survive the treatment -- the trick is to kill the pathological bacteria and leave only the beneficial bacteria alive. This cannot always be accomplished, and when it is not accomplished -- that is, when some of the bacteria left alive are pathological and not beneficial -- this is the development of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance in pathological bacteria is the undesirable consequence of the treatment of bacterial infections. It is not natural selection .

How has “The Breakfast Club” aged after 30 years?

Over the years, my wife and I have re-watched some of the iconic films from our teen years—”The Breakfast Club” among them. What always strikes us is not so much how dated the movies are but how much we have changed since the time when we were originally engrossed by such films. The big drivers of so-called “teen angst” don’t seem so big 30 years on. Also, after you get some years under your belt, you find that the easy immorality and self-regard endemic to the whole genre doesn’t wear well in real life. You’ve seen too many friends and loved ones wrecked by those things to be enthralled by them like you were 30 years ago.

Investigators believe that the "Jihadi John" masked fighter who fronted Islamic State beheading videos is a British man named Mohammed Emwazi, two U.S. government sources said on Thursday. He was born in Kuwait and comes from a prosperous family in London, where he grew up and graduated with a computer programming degree, according to The Washington Post.

9 Why Do Many Reasonable People Doubt Science?

We live in an age when all manner of scientific knowledge—from the safety of fluoride and vaccines to the reality of climate change—faces organized and often furious opposition. Empowered by their own sources of information and their own interpretations of research, doubters have declared war on the consensus of experts. There are so many of these controversies these days, you’d think a diabolical agency had put something in the water to make people argumentative. And there’s so much talk about the trend these days—in books, articles, and academic conferences—that science doubt itself has become a pop-culture meme. In the recent movie Interstellar, set in a futuristic, downtrodden America where NASA has been forced into hiding, school textbooks say the Apollo moon landings were faked.

Your childhood was a sensitive time. You had a sense of childlike faith that everything you were told was true, and you wanted it to be true, because how could anything wonderful not also be true? Well, put your childhood on a high shelf and protect it from the thieves and wolves, because it is a fragile thing and reality is a cruel and reckless tyrant. The Huffington Post has released a report on MTV's Pimp My Ride (don't ask why. Who knows why anyone does anything?) and the results are very sad. The show, which fixed up contestants' clunkers with some truly absurd custom features, has now been accused of multiple travesties. Some contestants said producers forced them to remove the add-ons after taping. Others talked about items that "were occasionally put into cars with no intention of them ever working in real life."

How to Memorize (Almost) Anything

You don’t have to have a “good memory” (whatever that means) to fill your imagination with Scripture and knowledge about the Bible. By the time you finish this series you’ll have learned how to memorize lists (e.g., the Ten Commandments) and almost every key event that occurs in Genesis (that’s the first step in memorizing the entire narrative structure of the Bible, including details about hundreds of persons and events mentioned in the 66 books). But before you accomplish those amazing feats I have to convince you that the memory God gave you is sufficient for the task.

Does Your Youth Ministry Mess with Christ’s Bride?

In the church contexts where I’ve served, it’s the students who have connected with the wider local church body in significant ways during their junior high and high school years who have matured and become deeply involved in local churches during college and beyond. Many of them have participated in vibrant youth ministries filled with fun events and activities, yet they have been groups led by youth pastors who have intentionally labored to grow the students’ faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, a faith that will be lived out, built up, and strengthened throughout their lives in the context of biblically solid and gospel-centered local churches. If youth pastors aren’t preparing students for

Stay-at-Home Work when Kids Have Special Needs

It doesn’t matter how much sleep my children got last night or what they have done on a given day, I’m still called to show kindness, love, grace, and patience toward them. I’m not to hold things against them. I want my kids to see my love for them not as a duty, but as an overflow of my love for Christ. I want them to see Christ in me and the strength that he has provided to love them. I don’t want to view them as a bother or live for bedtime, but instead I’m learning to take advantage of every opportunity to nurture them and care for them.

Hillary Clinton’s Top Aides Knew from First Minutes that Benghazi Was a Terrorist Attack, E-mails Disclose, by Andrew C. McCarthy, National Review

The revelations in the newly released e-mails were unveiled by Judicial Watch this afternoon at a press conference in Washington. In a press statement, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton asserted that the e-mails left “no doubt that Hillary Clinton’s closest advisers knew the truth about the Benghazi attack from almost the moment it happened.” Mr. Fitton further opined that “it is inescapable that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knowingly lied when she planted the false story about ‘inflammatory material being posted on the Internet.’ The contempt for the public’s right to know is evidenced not only in these documents but also in the fact that we had to file a lawsuit in federal court to obtain them.”

11 Ministry Reminders

I would argue that every child of God is called to ministry in some capacity. By that, I simply mean that each recipient of grace is meant to be a participant in the work of grace as well. Wheaton students protest Rosaria Butterfield

As a Wheaton student, I have thought deeply about this over the past few weeks and had numerous discussions with students and others. Like everywhere else, the issue of homosexuality here is divisive. People are confused. There has undoubtedly been a lack of grace on the part of conservatives evangelicals, and for that we must repent. A small but significant response by some has been to appeal to tolerance, affirmation, and love as grounds for shifting away from an orthodox position on homosexuality. So many feel stuck within the confines of this false dichotomy. I saw people I know sit down with the demonstrators because most of the signs talked about loving everyone, and, after all, what’s not to support about that? And this is where the confusion comes in. The organizers of the demonstration disagreed with Rosaria Butterfield’s presupposition that homosexuality is a sin, but they framed it as an appeal to hear everyone’s story and love them. The demonstration doesn’t mean that Wheaton’s liberal (see Ryken’s response). It means we are living in 2014 and facing the issues of our day.

CROSS 2015

Is Satan winning? Between the growing hostility to Christianity in America and the troubling reality of unbelief among thousands of unreached people groups abroad, it’s easy to feel as if the gospel is losing ground to the powers of sin and hell. And yet Jesus, in Matthew 28:18, said, “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” For that reason, God’s people, despite discouraging circumstances and the very real prospect of suffering, have the greatest reason for confidence and even joy. We serve an omnipotent God whose gospel kingdom is indomitable.

Looking at Nature with an Engineer's Eye

It took an engineer's eye to see this connection. Now, our understanding of bacterial replication is enriched accordingly, with no reference to natural selection. In fact, this revelation of the process creates new problems for neo-Darwinism: how could a self-replicating von Neumann machine emerge in piecemeal fashion, without all the parts, instructions, and "universal constructor" already present?

40
Sex and Violence in the Bible

In a similar way, reading Sex and Violence in the Bible helps Christians wade into the rivers of blood gushing throughout Scripture and not be swept away. Tens of thousands of people sometimes die in a single verse of the Old Testament. How does a Christian reconcile this account with the New Testament where Jesus tells Peter to put away his sword (John 18:11)? Many believers know Christ fulfilled the law and that violence no longer has to be used to conquer a physical land or protect an ethnic-national group from pagan influences. But those passages don’t go away. They have to be preached, they have to be pondered, they have to be explained to a modern world horrified by such massacre. Even we Christians don’t always know what to do with violence in the Bible. We’re often just as flabbergasted as our unbelieving neighbors.

Articles: Same Sex Marriage and Dred Scott

No homosexual partners can ever fulfill the mission of a marriage. Members of the same sex can't produce children together.  They can, as leftists never tire of pointing out, adopt.  Sometimes, in the absence of a better alternative, adoption by same-sex partners may be in the best interests of a particular child.  But human beings crave close contact with both a mother and a father.  No two men can ever give a child a mother.  No two women can ever give a child a father.  Some homosexual partners raise children, but they never do so in the circumstances society, for very good reason, prefers.

ISIS Has Kidnapped 220 Christians in the Last 3 Days

According to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 220 people from Assyrian Christian villages have been abducted by ISIS during three days of raids in Syria. (Though, that number could be even higher .) The head of the organization told Reuters , “They have taken the people they kidnapped away from the villages and into their territory.” Yesterday, CNN reported that ISIS was preparing to release a new video, confirming the capture of the Christians, and threatening to kill them if the U.S. did not stop conducting airstrikes. Following the new rounds of raids, ISIS now has taken control of 10 Christian villages ...

Why We Need to Practice Confession

This is the inconvenient moral truth we must tell about ourselves: that our moral codes fail us, that we are sometimes liars, cheaters and adulterers despite our best intentions. One way we do that is through the Christian practice of confession. Through confession of sin, we admit our falsehoods, cite our pretense, and surrender the sham. We agree with God that our actions and inactions have fallen terrifically short of His perfect standard of holiness and can only be reconciled through Jesus. But confession isn't just a practice of private, personal prayer. It should often be more public—with a friend or a trusted group of people.

Answering "No" To One of These Questions Will Kill Your Evangelism

Feel free to correct my thinking, but couldn’t one possibly hold the view that #5 and #6 are mostly the responsibility of the church (which means some members and not all members of the body). The body is made up of diverse individuals with different talents, unique strengths/weaknesses and (in the case of the ordained leaders) responsibilities. I believe whole heartedly that every member is called to be a witness to the truth. We should all be ready to give reason for the hope we have. But the work of an evangelist in scripture, at least sometimes, seems to refer to a specific role for certain people. And I definitely think discipling is not something for every member, but for the mature. As your piece says, you would “bring them into the church.” Together we make up the institution called to these things. I think this lessens the pressure that potentially leads individuals to think they have to be everything to everyone.

Easy on the eyes: Optimum length of eyelashes is one third width of eye

It started with a trip to the basement of the American Museum of Natural History in New York to inspect preserved animal hides. Later, Georgia Institute of Technology researchers built a wind tunnel about 2 feet tall, complete with a makeshift eye. By putting both steps together, the team discovered that 22 species of mammals -- from humans, to hedgehogs, to giraffes -- are the same: their eyelash length is one-third the width of their eye. Anything shorter or longer, including the fake eyelashes that are popular in Hollywood and make-up aisles, increases airflow around the eye and leads to more dust hitting the surface.

There is No 'They' in the Kingdom of God

Plus, when we know that they have also adopted an identity that includes us, we like them more. We love it when other people include us in their group because it implicitly tells us that they want to associate with us. This simple act prevents inaccurate metaperceptions from forming or continuing. When we no longer think of ourselves as us versus them, we are no longer convinced that they don’t like us and don’t want to interact with us.
