Is Jesus Merely a Myth? Interview with author David Marshall

MARSHALL: The purpose of Jesus is No Myth is not merely to prove that some chap named Yeshua walked around Palestine 2000 years ago, but that the amazing things the Gospels tell us about him are true. I do take on the most popular mythicist in this book—and in one-on-one debates—but the notion that Jesus never even lived is mere collateral damage to my main argument. The subtitle of the book is "the fingerprints of God on the Gospels," because I argue that there is powerful evidence within the gospels—like fingerprints on a windowsill, or DNA on a knife—that God has given this corner of history a personal and world-transforming twist…

Get Disciplined About Discipleship

The goal of the Church is not to create attenders, tithers or ministry participants. It is not even to create program volunteers, although that may overlap with the true goal. The great commission commands us to make disciples. Every church would accept this in principle. But what is the plan to make disciples? I think many churches just hope that it will happen. The pastor may teach on the importance of mentoring and then hope someone will get it and decide to mentor a new Christian. Many churches likely are seeking some discipleship goals through small groups. That can be a means but attending a small group does not equate discipleship. Most small groups (from my experience) are primarily about fellowship and support. Those are good things but they are not the same as discipleship…

A Thorough Guide to the Non-Canonical Gospels

Many years ago, when I first became interested in Christianity, I encountered a book at a local bookstore entitled, The Lost Books of the Bible . As a new investigator of the claims of the New Testament, I was immediately intrigued. “What?” I thought, “There are books about Jesus that were lost?” I couldn’t help but wonder what these books said about Jesus and why they were allegedly “lost” in the first place. I bought the book and bean to research the historical texts it described. I was disappointed to discover that the book should have been titled, The Well Known, Late Lies About Jesus That Were Ignored By Christians Who Knew Better . These texts were never part of the New Testament canon. They were written late in history and rejected by everyone who knew the truth about Jesus of Nazareth.

Q & A with Dr. Craig: Excavating the Tomb of Jesus

Today I stumbled upon a few online articles that reported that the stone the Jesus was laid upon after his burial was found. This stone was released from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. National Geographic reported that they can now uncover more information about Jesus' death and burial. Then I saw a linked article that said that they bible is "wrong" about Jesus' death and burial. How well established are the biblical facts of Jesus' death and burial?

Embryonic Development Reveals Staggering Complexity

I recently  cited  a  paper  on the evolution of embryonic development and how the evidence contradicts evolutionary theory and common descent. Even the evolutionists, though in understated terms, admitted there were problems. Evolutionary analyses are “reaching their limits,” it is difficult to “conclude anything about evolutionary origins,” genetic similarities “do not necessarily imply common ancestry,” and “conserved regulatory networks can become unrecognizably divergent.” In other words, like all other disciplines within the life sciences, embryonic development is not working. The science contradicts the theory.  Read more

Scientific Theory And The Multiverse Madness

And not only the constants can change from one universe to another, the locations of particles relative to each other can also be different. Since there are infinitely many universes in which to arrange the particles, some of these universes will be very similar to our own, just that eventually some initially tiny deviation will lead to an alternative history. Thus, somewhere in the multiverse our lives play out in any which way you can imagine. In this case, in some other universe, Newton could have, indeed, invented the multiverse. But before you pack your bags and search for a universe more to your liking, let me add there's no way to cross over into another universe or even interact with one. This only works in science fiction. Indeed, to my taste, the multiverse itself is already too close to fiction.

Three Lessons from the Jordan Peterson vs. Cathy Newman Debate

Jordan Peterson's debate with Cathy Newman on Channel 4 has gone viral. David Wood mansplains them. PATREON: TWITTER: FACEBOOK: MINDS: WEBSITE:

I don’t know where you are today. You may feel far away from God. Maybe you haven’t been to church in years, or maybe you’ve just been distant for a month or two. Maybe you’ve had one of those weeks where you thought, “I really don’t feel God’s presence in my life.” And yet we all long to be close to God. How do you get back to him?

We Don’t Understand the Difference Christianity Makes | Stand to Reason

It’s common to hear today that morality is “obvious” and we don’t need Christianity to know what’s right and wrong—we could chuck the whole thing out the window, and we’d be fine. But the truth is, most people have no idea of the difference Christianity is making to their current understanding of morality, whether they believe it’s true or not. Our culture has been so shaped by the person of Jesus that we take many things for granted that were despised 2,000 years ago—things that have not been obvious to all cultures, and that won’t be obvious once we exchange our Christian worldview (with its insistence on the dignity of every human person and the value of self-sacrifice) for another (such as one that features a meaningless, purposeless universe, where humans are accidents).

If you’re like me, you feel a sense of duty and responsibility as an ambassador of Jesus to share the Good News with others; the Great Commission calling to make disciples. 5 Regrets You Don’t Want to Have If Your Kids Walk Away from Faith

I cannot thank you enough for this blog. My son, who is wayward in faith, is a sophomore at college. He seemingly left the faith as soon as he concluded his senior year of high school. I want to say that I don’t blame him; it was we, the parents, who did not set forth the Spiritual platform from which he would be able to draw on an enlightened and hopefull commitment to the Faith. We bare much blame, and are saddened by his refusal to even attend church.

How Protestant Churches Are Involved with Adoption and Foster Care

Overall, about half (45%) of churchgoers say their church has had no involvement with or conversation about foster care and adoption. Leaders at smaller congregations are less likely to encourage families to consider adoption (8%) or foster care (8%), to raise funds for adoptive families (5%), or to provide training for foster parents (2%).

My Baby’s Heart Stopped Beating

He gives purpose to our suffering (Romans 8:28). My miscarriage didn’t happen in a vacuum. Both my child and I were created in God’s image, designed for his glory. My intentions for my child’s life were not the Lord’s intentions, and my timetable was not his timetable. He chose for that tiny person’s purpose to be fulfilled through seven weeks of life. He chose for my purpose to be further revealed through the death of that little one.

Apologetics and the Science of Happiness | Word on Fire

One that stands out to me is the desire to be a good parent. Now you are beginning to reach the third level of happiness. In the Ted Talk by Dr. Robert Waldinger, What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness , we learn that after seventy-five years of research, they found that one thing is better equipped than most to make us happy: good relationships. He states that good social connections lead to happier and physically healthier lives. The problem is that what we want is a quick fix. But that isn’t the nature of relationships. Relationships are hard work. They require sacrifice and an emptying of our own egos. Communal and family life is the foundational principle of a happy life, and I believe that in the necessity of an apologetic of happiness, we need to offer the abstract ideal of human happiness, but then equalize that with the very practical reality of having a deep relationship with those we intend to evangelize.

Is Jesus an Egomaniac?

Worship is an aspect of religion that I always found difficult to understand. Suppose we postulate an omnipotent being who, for reasons inscrutable to us, decided to create something other than himself. Why should he . . . expect us to worship him? We didn’t ask to be created. Our lives are often troubled. We know that human tyrants, puffed up with pride, crave adulation and homage. But a morally perfect God would surely have no character defects. So why are all those people on their knees every Sunday?

If God Doesn’t Heal You

If we set our eyes only on a cure, rather than on the reality of our physical mortality, we may chase after treatments that not only fail to save us, but which also rob us of our capacities to think, communicate, and pray in our final days. We forget that if our healing is not within God’s will, we will need fortitude, peace, and discernment to endure. And if cure does not come, a single-minded focus on healing strands ourselves and those we love with unsettling doubts about the validity of our faith.

Top 5 rookie pastor mistakes — Southern Equip

Though it may seem counterintuitive, the best strategy for any pastor assuming a new ministry is to lower expectations of the church but raise expectations of himself. In other words, instead of having a list of things the church must do, he should have a list of actions he must take. His efforts should focus on preaching well, loving his people, winning the lost, visiting people in their jobs and homes, and inviting members into his. People will more readily follow a man who works hard and loves them. There is no shortcut to credibility, but there is a direct route.

Gospel Hope for Self-Haters

Sure, and among the standards is a proper view of who you are: the Ten Commandments — you might say the bones of the standards. God gives us a definition of ourselves. He tells us that we are creatures — we are actually made to meet him. Every human being, whether they love him or hate him, know him or repress the knowledge of him, needs him and lives dependent on his kindness. He tells us that we are sinful, that we have fallen short of love for him and a tender heart toward our neighbors, and, thus, we have come into judgment. But then consider the whole way that the Scripture comes; that is, it gets revealed in the context of redemption happening, of a God who moves into the human dilemma in order to bring grace and bring resolution. Those are all identity statements. Those are all true things about ourselves.
