Question Evolution Day 2016

February 12th is Question Evolution Day. Here are some great resources for you to celebrate Question Evolution Day. We'll begin with the entire first and second seasons of Creation Today. Seasons three and four of Creation Today can be view at Creation Today's YouTube channel. As a Christian apologist I first learned how to scientifically challenge evolution from the late Dr. A.E. Wilder-Smith. Dr. Wilder-Smith was not a hack. He was a scientists scientist and his observations and scientific analysis of Evolutionary theory were devastating (and still are). Below you will find several segments and an entire episode of Fighting for the Faith dedicated to exposing the bankruptcy of Evolutionary Theory. Each of them contains lectures from the late Dr. A.E. Wilder-Smith along with other resources that give sound reasons why Christians should never compromise when it comes to human origins. Enjoy! Program #1 - The Bankrupt Theology of Biologos PROGRAM SEGMENTS: • Adam and the Gospel: Is a Historical Adam Necessary? • Ken Hamm and Death The Enemy • 7 Postulates of Evolution by Dr. A.E. Wilder-Smith Program #2 - Is Biogenesis Scientific by Dr. A.E. Wilder-Smith Program #3 - The Great Debate: Evolution or Creation by Dr. A.E. Wilder-Smith

Testimony: When God Writes Your Life Story

Vienna’s friendliness soon drew me out of my shell. A postal worker came from behind the counter to re-tie my scarf. Bakers stuffed free cookies into my bag. Classmates ignored my nonverbal cues and kept inviting me to concerts, museums, and films. Mornings were full of classes in art history, German, and music, but in the afternoons I would squeeze in a few lonely rambles. When the snowfall grew heavy, I ducked into cathedrals. Stained glass glowed in soft patterns of mustard, saffron, indigo, and coral. Arches and vaults soared so high I could hardly see where they intersected. Always, the twisted, half-naked figure on the cross at the front shone as if he were sweating.

Must Every Church Be Multi-Ethnic?

In a new 10-minute roundtable , John Piper (former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis), Trip Lee (hip-hop artist and pastor of Cornerstone Church in Atlanta), and Stephen Um (pastor of Citylife Presbyterian Church in Boston) tackle this question in an effort to help churches consider their own cultural composition. Watch as these leaders consider ways of building ethnic diversity in the church, what this conveys to the outside world, what it means to faithfully represent your community in your congregation, and more. The cited Piper article, “ How and Why Bethlehem Pursues Ethnic Diversity ,” unpacks these issues in greater detail.

Don’t Waste Your Awkwardness

Awkwardness is an invitation to be found. It’s an invitation to vulnerability, and vulnerability is where intimacy and connection are born. It’s also an invitation to throw yourself on the grace that makes vulnerability possible at all. At the end of the day, awkward people are the only kind of people God loves; because awkward people are the only kind of people there are.

4 Ways to Battle Bitterness

You and I mistakenly believe that drinking deeply of bitterness will satisfy our hurt, but Christ has shown us the better way. In all suffering the cup of gall will be offered to our lips. We who have drunk from the cup of life must seek no comfort in that caustic drink. Like Christ, we must refuse it. The bitter thirst of injustice is only quenched with the living water of the gospel. In our seasons of wormwood and gall may we drink deeply and often from its streams, exchanging bitterness for the hope and portion of steadfast love, of mercies that never come to an end—for us and for our offenders.

Take Action Against Adultery

It’s a nasty question, I admit, and one that most couples don’t see coming. The very idea that they could begin to have amorous feelings toward someone other than their betrothed — at any point in their lives — seems like an assault on their love and their moral fiber. But don’t be deceived. Putting a ring on your finger does nothing to restrain the rebellion that is in your heart. According to The Truth About Cheating by M. Gary Neuman, nearly seventy percent of men who had an affair thought that they would never do such a thing.

Why Our Storytelling Nature Provides Evidence for God

If the universe as a whole is a meaningless story, as Russell suggests, then why are humans so entrenched with experiencing and telling meaningful stories? Where does this deep-seated commitment to story come from? On the naturalist worldview, it is simply some evolutionary by-product that offers survival value. Animals survive fine without it, so why do humans need it? And further, if we live in a “universe of ruins” then why is there an objective structure for storytelling in the first place? How can a chaotic, purposeless universe offer a universal, meaningful formula for storytelling?

Apple’s Siri Now Sends Pregnant Women to Abortion Clinics After “Flaw” Corrected

J Warner Wallace on why he wrote "God's Crime Scene" - www.ThePoachedEgg.net/mobile

It's my hope that God's Crime Scene will help readers examine the nature of the universe as they sift through eight important characteristics of the cosmos, biological organisms and human experience, considering each as though it were a piece of evidence at a crime scene. Readers will be introduced to the "'inside the room' or 'outside the room'" methodology used by detectives to "determine the most reasonable inference from evidence". You'll be challenged to examine eight important pieces of evidence common to our human observations and experience. Which explanation (pure unguided naturalism or supernatural intervention) best accounts for the evidence at the "crime scene"?

Why Christians Can’t Be Silent About Politics

This active faith, this active life, is not one that shies away from complexity, it embraces it. This faith can hold in contention the fact of God’s holy wrath and His hallowed love. And it can reconcile political differences and intractable positions with the truth that all men are created in the image of God and are worthy of respect. This kind of faith, this civic life, will take hard work and humble effort. But the rewards can only be greater freedom and opportunity in this life to proclaim to others about the life to come.

Pastor of China's Largest Church Jailed for Protesting Removal of 1,500 Crosses

Peace to the beloved [Christians] of Chongyi Church! Soon, a rare freezing, cold will befall Hangzhou; please, everyone must rely on the Lord’s grace to be healthy. Chongyi Church is also experiencing unprecedented, chilling trials. Everyone must equally rely on the Lord’s grace to confront [this hardship] and triumph over it. Thank you for the deep, loving concern you have showed to the two of us recently as a married couple! We are so touched and will engrave this on our hearts. Through prayer, we decided to cancel all [events in which we] go out to do ministry in the coming days in order to pray, try to understand God’s decrees and draw from his grace. We will go through thick and thin with Chongyi Church! Regardless of how the situation will be after this, we will inevitably continue serving at Chongyi Church if there is no other guidance from the Lord himself! Of course, the manner [of service] may change, but our love of the Lord and his flock will never change, because we are the Lord's servants! Thank God! Increasingly, we feel God’s good intentions in this storm.

Joy Is Not Optional

If it weren’t plain enough at this point, the apostle Paul drives it home further in his letters to the churches. “Rejoice in hope. . . . Rejoice with those who rejoice” (Romans 12:12, 15). “Finally, brothers, rejoice” (2 Corinthians 13:11). “Rejoice always” (1 Thessalonians 5:16). And then, the joy tidal wave of Philippians: “Be glad and rejoice with me” (Philippians 2:18). “Rejoice in the Lord” (Philippians 3:1). “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). Not that we’re dull to the multifaceted pains of life in this age, but in Christ we have access to subterranean joy that is simultaneous with, and deeper than, the greatest of our sorrows — we are “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing” (2 Corinthians 6:10).

Punxsutawney Phil Says Spring Is Coming

Good news to all of you who are ready to thaw from the frigid winter, Punxsutawney Phil didn't spot his shadow when he popped his little head out of his groundhog hole this morning, which, according to tradition, means we'll be having a short winter. Unfortunately, based on past weather data, "there is no predictive skill for the groundhog during the most recent years of the analysis," according to a report released Friday by the National Centers for Environmental Information. We probably have the El Nino phenomenon to thank for that, because after 130 years of his ancestors making predictions, there's no way this groundhog has lost his touch.

Gospel Shaped Outreach by Erik Raymond | The Gospel Coalition

Gospel Shaped Church is a new curriculum from The Gospel Coalition that will help whole congregations pause and think carefully and prayerfully about the kind of church they are called to be.  This nine-week whole-church curriculum will help members see both the priority of evangelism for our churches, and to see the role that everyone can play in reaching out to those who are lost without Christ.  Inside the Leader Kit box you will find a copy of the Leader's Guide , a copy of the Member's Handbook and a copy of the DVD containing nine teaching sessions presented by Erik Raymond (running time: 140 minutes).  There is also a Quickstart Guide which lays out a variety of ways in which the material could be used within your own church context, some ideas for creating a church bulletin to promote the course in your church, and a code that will allow you to download a digital copy of the DVD for free.  Many Christians are nervous about telling someone else about Jesus. We prefer to leave it up to the preacher, or to those we see as particularly gifted for evangelism in our congregations.

29 The Briefing 02-02-16 | AlbertMohler.com

Sadly, many Americans, including some American Christians, might look at this headline and say that’s really horrible that this takes place in India. And of course it is horrible, it’s unspeakably horrible, but we also need to recognize that there is no legal reason this couldn’t happen in the United States. It does happen. In the United States medical testing is used to tell parents, for example, whether or not it is likely that their child is carrying the genes for Down Syndrome and if so, we now know the vast majority of those babies are aborted in the womb. We are on the threshold of genetic and medical tests and technologies that can tell us a very great deal about the unborn child, and that data is going to be used by many parents in order to eliminate pregnancies, to kill babies in the womb who do not meet their specifications and expectations. It tells us a great deal that this article seems to imply that it is wrong to abort a baby simply because of its gender. But we need to note that the article can’t go much further than that, because if it does it’s going to have to deal with the wrongness of abortion itself, with the evil of abortion not only for this reason, but for any reason.

Church of Satan Exposes The Evil In Atheism

This is the CAA unity statement: In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, in all things charity. The Christian Apologetics Alliance (CAA) is united in our Statement of Faith. The CAA does not, as an organization, have positions on many of the doctrinal or theological debates that take place within the church. Our primary concern is to promote the gracious, rational defense of the central claims of Christianity and the critique of opposing systems of thought. The CAA joyfully welcomes Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and diverse Protestant believers, and we are committed to treating all these traditions with respect in our community.

Book Review: The Fate of the Apostles by Sean McDowell | Come Reason's Apologetics Notes

Since Christianity's inception, it has been common for Christian faith-defenders to offer evidence supporting their belief in the risen Jesus. From Paul's testimony in 1 Corinthians 15 , the claim of eyewitnesses to support the resurrection of Christ has been integral to Christianity. Many people point to the fact that Jesus's apostles died without ever recanting their belief in him as evidence of the truthfulness of their testimony. But is this as strong a piece of evidence as we've been led to believe? How do we know the apostles were actually martyred, and does dying for one's faith prove anything other than loyalty to a belief system? These are the questions Dr. Sean McDowell takes up in his new book The Fate of the Apostles: Examining the Martyrdom Accounts of the Closest Followers of Jesus (Ashgate, 2015). In The Fate of the Apostles , McDowell traces the historical evidence for the deaths of each of the Twelve and offers an objective rubric for weighing the probability of their martyrdoms. Clarifying What They Died For Martyrdom is a heady concept.

How Should Christians Think About Socialism?

Now Socialism as I understand it (and I don’t know much about it) refers to 1) a social and economic system that through legal or governmental or military coercion — in other words, you go to jail if you don’t do this — establishes social ownership at the expense of private or personal ownership and/or you could say 2) where coercion is used to establish social control — if not ownership, at least control of the means of production in society. And thus, through control, you effectively eliminate many of the implications and motivations of private ownership.

You may start noticing a new trend on Netflix. This December, sermon series from four prominent pastors—Joyce Meyers, Steven Furtick, Andy Stanley and Ed Young—were all added to the streaming content platform as part of a new effort led by Young to get Christian teachings on Netflix. In an interview with RNS , the executive director of marketing for Joyce Meyers said that Netflix asked that the pastors avoid promoting products and soliciting donations, but was relatively open when it came to the content of the sermons. Young told RNS, “Jesus said that we should become fishers of men. If I’m going to catch the most fish, I’ve got to put a lot of hooks in the water. But I’m most excited about Netflix right now.”

How Tocqueville Schooled Bernie Sanders 200 Years Ago

A third and final trait, one which, in my eyes, best describes socialists of all schools and shades, is a profound opposition to personal liberty and scorn for individual reason, a complete contempt for the individual. They unceasingly attempt to mutilate, to curtail, to obstruct personal freedom in any and all ways. They hold that the State must not only act as the director of society, but must further be master of each man, and not only master, but keeper and trainer. For fear of allowing him to err, the State must place itself forever by his side, above him, around him, better to guide him, to maintain him, in a word, to confine him. They call, in fact, for the forfeiture, to a greater or less degree, of human liberty, to the point where, were I to attempt to sum up what socialism is, I would say that it was simply a new system of serfdom.

His parents came to America from Cuba in 1956 to pursue a better life. His father became a bartender, and his mother became a cashier, a maid and a Kmart stock clerk. Growing up in Las Vegas and Miami, Marco watched how his parents worked hard and sacrificed to give their children a life better than their own. They never made it big, but they were successful. They achieved the American Dream. And that is why he is running for president. For too many people, the American Dream feels impossible. Opportunity and success seems far away.

Hannah More: Powerhouse in a Petticoat

“What William Wilberforce was among men, Hannah More was among women.” So the Christian Observer proclaimed upon More’s death in 1833. Wilberforce, the parliamentarian and politician, was the most public face of the campaign, and today is nearly synonymous with the British abolitionist movement. By contrast, as a woman who could not even vote or join abolitionist societies of the day, More was destined for obscurity. Yet historians agree she was the single most influential woman in the British abolitionist movement. One biographer said her efforts formed “one of the earliest propaganda campaigns for social reform in English ...
