Reasons To Believe : Science News Flash: An Old-Earth Perspective on Dinosaur Feathers Preserved in Amber
It turns out the same is true for paleontologist Lida Xing who purchased several amber pieces from a market in Myitkyina in the country of Myanmar. The amber sold at the market comes from a nearby mine in the Hukawng Valley. While most buyers are looking for amber to make jewelry, Xing was looking for amber with inclusions of plant and animal remains. The amber from the mine dates to 99 million years. Because of the amber’s age, the well-preserved plant and animal remains entombed by this fossilized tree resin offer a unique glimpse at ancient life on Earth, providing details and insight that far exceed those available from highly compressed fossil remains that typically comprise the fossil record.

Dear Teens, Virginity Is Good for You
We talk about this on BreakPoint quite a bit: Young people who wait until after the wedding have a better chance for a stable, fulfilling, happy marriage—not to mention they don’t have to worry about sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies. You’ve probably also heard me or Eric Metaxas talk about how obedience to the Lord’s loving plan for confining sex within marriage brings incalculable spiritual benefits in our Christian lives.

Five Reasons Calvinists Love Election
Calvinists embrace the biblical teaching of called unconditional election , that God sovereignly chooses, and takes the decisive initiative, to save unworthy sinners for his own glory. The Scriptures give us many reasons why God’s election is a such a sweet truth. Here are five of them.

The Wisdom in What God Doesn’t Say
Why didn’t God say more? One reason is because God’s will for us is our sanctification (1 Thessalonians 4:3), which means God wants hearts, not just behavior. And what our hearts really want can be revealed as much in how we respond to moral ambiguity as to how we respond to moral clarity. God wants us to wrestle with the grey areas in light of knowing there’s a “holiness without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14). How will we seek to love Christ by obeying his commandment to love each other (John 13:34; 14:15), and help one another pursue a “pure heart and good conscience” (1 Timothy 1:5), when we must discern what purity means for us in our place in the world and in history?
Dave Brubeck, Liberty’s New Hire, Hotel Bibles, and the Obama Administration by the Numbers
DC by the Numbers. As the Obama administration comes to a close, a few factoids that help explain the Trump phenomenon and why those Inside-The-Beltway didn't see it coming. The population of the District of Columbia (D.C.) in 2015 was 672,228, and more than half of them were employed by the federal government. The median compensation for a government employee (including healthcare and retirement benefits) is more than $104,000, compared to about $54,000 for the rest of America. All this money drove up the median home price in D.C. to $523,050, up from $375,000 in 2009. In short, while the rest of the country was experiencing a populist revolt, things were booming, thank you very much, in Washington, D.C. While we’re at it, here are a few more interesting Obama-era factoids: Foreign Nations Visited: 56 (Bush visited 75). Solo News Conferences: 36 (Bush: 44). Good Ol’ Scripture
And now, as the New York Times reports, scientists using “volume cartography” can now read a rolled-up scroll from En-Gedi containing the first two chapters of Leviticus. The scroll, which dates back to the first century AD, was nearly burned to a crisp in an ancient synagogue fire. Incredibly, now that we can read it, the text matches our medieval texts letter for letter!

Seven Reasons You Should Not Indulge in Pornography
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food—and God will destroy both one and the other.” The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. “Every sin a person commits is outside the body,” but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Cor 6:12–20) 8
The Briefing 12-08-16 - AlbertMohler.com
Well let’s take a step back from this for just a moment. The push for the taxation on sugary drinks began under the auspices of a campaign for public health. At the very head of that was former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who famously established a policy that was later reversed by the courts. The argument here is that taxes can be used as a disincentive to what will be classified as unhealthy behavior, in this case, drinking too many calories in the form of sugary drinks. Those sugary drinks, by the way, have been extremely popular with the American people, but those sugary drinks have also been more popular with certain segments of the American public than with others.

Larry Bush, the Marketing Director at Traidcraft told Premier: "Parents are under so much pressure to buy things for kids that often we forget to take a step back and think 'what is Christmas all about? We're throwing things at our kids which they don't necessarily want. There are so many other ways to show you care."

Can We Do Whatever We Want in Heaven?
Another way to say yes is that in heaven — that is, in the age to come — when there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, no more sin, those who have trusted in Jesus will experience for the first time complete and perfect freedom. Jesus said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). And Paul said, “For freedom Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). Only Christians will enjoy complete and perfect freedom, which I have often defined this way: doing whatever you want to do and not regretting it in a thousand years.

A Closer Look at the Virgin Birth
Let’s go a little deeper at the Sign to the House of David in Isa. 7:13-14. In Hebrew, there is a clear change between the singular “you” of vs 9, 11, 16, 17, and the plural “you” of verses 13-14. The sign is not just for Ahaz, but for the whole house of David. In vs 14, we see the word “Behold,” This Hebrew word draws attention to an event which is past, present, or future. However, grammatically, whenever “behold” is used with the Hebrew present participle; it always refers to a future event. That is the case here. Not only is the birth future, but the very conception is future. This is not referring to a pregnant woman about to give birth. The NASB translates it as “a virgin” which is wrong. The NIV and NKJV translate it as “the virgin”- according to the rules of Hebrew grammar, when finding the use of a definite article “the”- the reader should look for a reference in the immediate previous context. Having followed the passage from 7:1, there has been no mention of any woman. Having failed the immediate context, the next rule is called “ the principle of previous reference”- something that which has been dealt with earlier and is common knowledge among the people.

Witnessing to Theological Liberals - Christian Research Institute
When witnessing to liberal people, there are times that we must function as evangelical Christianity’s complaint department. Liberals have often perceived actions of conservative evangelical Christians as harmful to vulnerable groups of people. Because of the strife, division, and misunderstanding that have plagued relations between conservatives and liberals over decades, effective evangelism to liberals often begins on an emotional level rather than on an intellectual one. Let’s take the above scenario and place it in the context of a liberal person complaining to a Christian about a gang of angry, shouting Christians picketing a gay man’s funeral that he or she has just attended. I hope most of us agree that this sort of behavior is outside the bounds of good taste, let alone the bounds of Christian concern and charity. You could respond:

Hand out two pieces of paper to each person in the group. Say the Lord’s Prayer together. When it comes to the line ‘forgive us our sins’, take a moment of quiet to each write on one of the pieces of paper the things for which you are asking God’s forgiveness. Then gather the papers in a large saucepan, light a match and let the papers burn. If you have an open fireplace, burn that the papers there. As you say the line ‘as we forgive those who sin against us’, take Your second piece of paper and write down the names of those you need to forgive. Ask for God’s help to forgive these people, and again gather the papers and burn them. Then continue saying the rest of the Lord’s Prayer together.

6 Signs Your Relationship Shouldn't Last
The ability to communicate well is vital to the success of any relationship. Some people don’t know how to talk about hard things. Maybe they feel uncomfortable being vulnerable. This puts their partner in a tough spot because they’ll have trouble connecting deeply with someone who won’t open up. Or maybe the person you’re with doesn’t take responsibility for things he or she does. You may feel nervous to speak up when they’ve upset you because they’ll get defensive. They could yell, shut down or make you feel like it’s all your fault. Knowing this, you may feel nervous to share your thoughts.

Do We Really Live In A "Post-Truth" World?
Second, we don’t really live in a post-truth world . In fact, a post-truth world is impossible. Not too long ago I was speaking at a youth event. Afterwards, a student came up to me and said, “You talked about truth a lot. What’s the big deal? Why is truth even important?” I looked at him and simply asked, “Do you want the true answer or the false answer?” He clearly valued truth, even though he didn’t realize it. The same is true for all of us.

There’s jobs that I’ve done in the past where I could safely say I would never do that again, but Parks and Rec is not one of them. We did do seven seasons, you know, somewhere along the lines of 150 episodes, so eventually you start running out of stories to tell, but because of the nature of that show kind of mimicking time, I definitely wouldn’t rule out seeing it again, seeing us get back together for a movie, or for another season down the line, a possible spinoff, or whatever.
