In Metaphysical Perspectives , Nicholas Rescher offers a grand vision of how to conceptualize, and in some cases answer, some of the most fundamental issues in metaphysics and value theory. Rescher addresses what he sees as the three prime areas of metaphysical concern: (1) the world as such and the architecture of nature at large, (2) ourselves as nature's denizens and our potential for learning about it, and (3) the transcendent domain of possibility and value. Rescher engages issues across a wide range of metaphysical themes, from different world views and ultimate questions to contingency and necessity, intelligent design and world-improvability, personhood and consciousness, empathy and other minds, moral obligation, and philosophical methodology. Over the course of this book, Rescher discusses, with his characteristic fusion of idealism and pragmatism, an integrated overview of the key philosophical problems grounded in an idealistically value-oriented approach. His discussion seeks to shed new light on philosophically central issues from a unified point of view.

Does Christian Apologetics Compete with the Holy Spirit?

I’ve been involved with Christian apologetics since 2005; it’s one of the catalysts for my conviction in the Christian faith. I know how it influenced me personally and so, I know how valuable it can be. While I was an agnostic, I read dozens of books and my heart was convicted of the truth of the Christian worldview. This is why I’m often saddened and confused when I see or hear Christians disparage Christian apologetics. To be frank, I don’t understand any of the objections I’ve seen leveraged against Christian apologetics.

5 Life-lessons for Apologists from Martin Luther King, Jr.

Before the victory of brother is achieved, some will maybe face physical death, but we shall overcome. Before the victory is won, some will lose jobs, some will be called communists, and reds, merely because they believe in brotherhood, some will be dismissed as dangerous rabble-rousers and agitators merely because they’re standing up for what is right, but we shall overcome.

The Task of Apologetics

Exodus 3 narrates the well-known account of God’s revealing Himself to Moses in the burning bush and commissioning him to tell Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. But that was only part of Moses’ mission. The other task to which the Lord called Moses was to address the Israelites. He was to command the Israelites in the name of God to engage in the largest strike in history. In absolute defiance of the power and authority of Pharaoh, they were to leave Egypt and go out to the desert to worship God at His mountain. And, of course, these events ended in the exodus.

How Jesus Makes a Woman Bold

Christian women, we have nothing to fear and ultimately nothing to lose. We will inherit our glorious hope. We will get Christ. He will reward us for our good works. Let’s not be conformed to the world in its apathy toward the things of God. Let’s live like we have the greatest hope to offer the world. Let’s get uncomfortable by hoping in God and not in what the world offers. Let’s take risks for the sake of the gospel to the glory of God.

Resurrection iWitness - Kindle edition by Doug Powell. Religion & Spirituality Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Excellent book by Doug Powell. He did a wonderful job combining solid, thoughtful, reasonable apologetics with fun and compelling graphics to make this book an adventurous page-turner! It has an Indiana Jones-like quality in that you must explore every photo, flap, map, chart, etc to fully understand the claims on each page. But you don't get too bogged down in the details, because they are clear, brief and to the point. I'd recommend this book for anyone interested in exploring the truth claims of Christianity - from skeptic to believer, student to theologian. A must have for your coffee table! I am sincerely looking forward to the next installment!

The Sower's Apologetics Profile - When is Apologetics Effective?

What is the effectiveness of apologetics ? The Holy Scriptures tell us that God has revealed himself to mankind but that humanity as a whole does not want God (Romans 1:18-20). This leads people to create crafty ways in which to avoid God. Jesus also revealed the inner depths of the human psyche in this exchange of God’s wooing and the human response to that truth in the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3-23, Mark 4:2-20, Luke 8:4-18). In this parable, the sower (one who relays God’s truth) scatters seeds (the truth of God) and the seeds fall on four different kinds of ground (types of human dispositions).

Is God Calling Me to Be a Pastor?

Here the desires of the heart meet the brass tacks of the needs of others. Office in the church is not for spiritual self-actualization or merely affirming a man’s spiritual maturity, but it’s for meeting the actual needs of others. The elder qualifications are, in a sense, unremarkable. The elders of the church should not be the sum total of all spiritually qualified men in the church. Rather, from among those who are qualified, the elders are those who are willing to make extra sacrifices (for a season or the long haul) to care for the church and meet her needs. Aspiration has its vital part to play, but the call to pastoral office is not shaped mainly by the internal heart, but by external needs.

Why you need Advent more than you realize — Southern Equip

Advent is all recognizing that we have real problems that require divine solutions. In the midst of this waiting, we ask God to intervene in our lives to bring healing, strength, and hope. The 400 years of God’s silence put his people’s faith to the test. Advent for Christians presents us with an opportunity to enter into this era of delayed gratification. Though on one side we recognize the Savior has come, we also need to acknowledge the dramatic nature and timing of this coming. Paul said at the right time Christ died for the ungodly (Rom 5:6). God knew the timing of Christ’s coming; he had planned it from before the foundations of the world. Yet there was still a necessary time of waiting.

It's Time for Youth Pastors to CH.A.T. With Their Students | Cold Case Christianity

Apologetics: As a Christian Case Maker, I was happy to hear that Don and Joe valued the role of apologetics in their paradigm. We also talked about how the role of Church History (particularly concerning the ancient Church) can assist us in making a case for the early dating, accuracy and reliability of the gospels. I’ve written a lot about this in my book and used the history of Ignatius, Polycarp and Clement to help us make a case for gospel reliability. When I was a youth pastor, my annual trip to Berkeley provided me with the opportunity to train my students in apologetics for months prior to the mission. Christian Case Making became a vital part of their DNA as high school student s, and it equipped them to handle the challenge of the University setting.

U2’s Unfashionably Hopeful Songs of Experience | Think Christian

On the opening track, “Love Is All That We Have Left,” Bono’s vocal is both intimate and artificial. Producer Andy Barlow runs his voice through a vocoder/synth processor, with which the famously imperfect lead vocalist then sings a sort of sad duet. It’s hard not to hear 1 Corinthians 13:13 , making for a stark and powerful introduction to the rest of the album. If, at the end of things, all we have left is faith, hope, and love, then we had better figure out what those things mean. Love is our only hope. It’s a cliche, sure, but like my grandpa’s sayings, that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

The Way, the Truth, & the Life by R.C. Sproul | December 5, 2017

Today there is still confusion about who Jesus is. Some critics who maintain His deity have forfeited His sinlessness. Others who claim to search for the “historical Jesus” have said Jesus never made claims to deity. So who knows the truth about Jesus? In this message, Dr. Sproul considers this as he looks at Jesus’ statement of being “The Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

Multiverse: Is Our Universe One of Many?

Scientists today increasingly talk and write about the multiverse. What is the multiverse? The multiverse is the belief that our universe is just one of many universes. Presumably, each universe exists parallel to and independent of one another. If this sounds like science fiction, philosophy, or religion, it is, because the multiverse could be classified in any one of those categories. Whatever the multiverse is, it definitely is not science. How can the multiverse be scientific (given that science is the study of the natural world using our five senses) when other universes, by definition, are beyond our ability to detect? If the multiverse is not science, why do so many scientists believe in it? The reasons have nothing to do with science but instead are the result of presuppositions and worldview.
