Answering Muslims

The other principal passage that Muslims appeal to is from the Gospel of John. What is ironic is that the Gospel of John which so forcefully advocates the Deity of Christ and amplifies the identity of Jesus as Son of God is also one of the main texts that receive the most scathing attack from Muslims. Here again the inconsistent methodology used by Muslims becomes apparent. Where they feel the gospel of John can be used to support the Qur’an, it is right, where it does not, it is wrong. In short, the reader will note that there is no concern for the biblical texts themselves or whether they can stand on their own merit. They are arbitrarily and selectively used by Muslims to suit the Qur’an. This would be the same as Christians using the Qur’an to prove the Bible whenever it agrees with it and rejecting when it does not. Our Muslim friends would be quick to charge us with inconsistency here and yet this futile exercise is always practiced in Islamic dialogues with Christians. It should always be remembered that an inconsistent methodology and argument, are always signs of a failed argument because in the end they are contrived.

Sessions: Omnibus Explains Why ‘Voters Are In Open Rebellion’

BACKGROUND: In the dead of night after 2am this morning, Congressional leadership unveiled a more than 2,000 page 'omnibus' year-end funding bill which would, among other things: fully-fund the President's refugee expansion; fully-fund sanctuary cities; fully-fund the resettlement of illegal aliens youth and their families crossing the border; lock-in tax credits for illegal aliens; and quadruple the highly controversial H-2B foreign worker visa being used to replace Americans as truck drivers, construction workers, theme park employees, and in blue collar jobs across the nation. Sessions, the Chairman of the Immigration Subcommittee, issued a statement about the bill as it speeds to a vote before it can be read, observing in part that GOP voters: "have come to believe that their party’s elites are not only uninterested in defending their interests but – as with this legislation, and fast-tracking the President’s international trade pact – openly hostile to them." On the floor today, Sessions further reminded his colleagues that their duty is the American people - not special interests, immigration advocacy groups, or lobbyists for narrow business concerns.

The Irresistible Force of ‘Star Wars’: 3 Popular Approaches

At just the right time, however, God sent his light into the world to drive out the darkness (John 1:4, 9). God’s Son—the prophesied chosen one (Isa. 42:1)—battled the forces of darkness (John 1:5), surrendered his life to save the world (John 3:16), and rose from the dead in victory over death (Acts 2:24). Until the King’s return, his loyal subjects—the children of light (1 Thess. 5:5)—are to serve as a force of light and truth against the agents of darkness and deception (Eph. 6:12). This brings a new hope to fallen humanity, drawing our gaze from the suffering of this present darkness to the glorious restoration, when death itself will be swallowed up by life eternal (1 Cor. 15:54–56).

Should Evangelicals Evolve on Homosexuality?

While the latter view is clearly more palatable to evangelicals than the former, Rosaria disagrees with both. She points out that Vine’s view leads to not inheriting the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9–10). But she happily acknowledges, “Where there is life, there is hope. So we are not making a condemnation on [Vine’s] life. But we are making a discerning comment on his state before God. And we are doing that not because we are looking into his soul, but because we are looking into the pages of the book he has written and we are comparing it to the book of the Bible.”

When ‘Just’ Is a Four-Letter Word

“Just” is my way of cutting my listener off at the pass. Before she can tell me I’m not enough, I tell her I know I’m not enough. I save face by defacing myself. I save myself the pain of watching her judge me, which she probably isn’t doing in the first place because she’s too busy thinking of all her “justs.” But my pride tells me everyone is looking at me and thinking about me, and—more specifically—they are thinking of all the ways I don’t measure up to them or to everyone else.

Scientists say face mites evolved alongside humans since the dawn of human origins: We all have them: New study reveals that people from different regions host different mite lineages, supports

A landmark new study explores the fascinating, little-known natural history of the face mite species Demodex folliculorum, using genetic testing to link the microscopic animal's evolution to our own ever-evolving human story. By zooming in on mite mitochondrial DNA from around the world, scientists discovered that different human populations have different mites, that those mites follow families through generations, and that they are not casually transferred between humans.

William Lane Craig on the "God of the Gaps" argument

The speech comes from Dr. Craig's debate with Dr. Garrett Hardin: We welcome your comments in the Reasonable Faith forums:

Ligonier Ministries

JB: First, deepen their relationship with the Lord, so that their personal evangelism is the natural outcome of spiritual income. When Peter and John were hauled before the Sanhedrin, they were rated “uneducated, common men,” but the clarity and boldness of their testimony was put down to the fact that “they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). Second, master the Bible’s major doctrines. Get a grasp of the big picture and let this be the canvas on which everything else is painted. This begins with God’s aseity (His uncaused self-existence and independence) and includes His absolute sovereignty, in the exercise of which He “works all things according to the counsel of his will” (Eph. 1:11). Third, be alert to current cultural thinking and determine how best to counter it with biblical truth. In all of this, 1 Peter 3:15 is a good template.

In The Meantime

North Carolina based worship leaders KC and Julie Clark write songs that invite the listener into what it means to wander, to wait, and see hope rise. Their new EP In The Meantime reflects their belief that the stories drive the songs, not the other way around. “It took a community to make this record, so it’s not just our story, but a collective journey of those who traveled with us. We wanted it to sound like family, like home, because that's what we're all searching for". Without tension an instrument cannot make sound. These songs echo the tension that exists between the now, and the not yet while finding hope in the meantime.

Help Me Teach the Bible: Anchoring Our Teaching in the Central Themes of Scripture

In this episode of Help Me Teach the Bible , Lane Tipton  (associate professor of systematic theology at Westminster Theological Seminary) helps us understand the goal of God’s creation that drives the whole story of Scripture and provides an anchor for teaching every part of the Bible. Tipton defines the unifying theme of the entire Bible this way: “God, from the standpoint of creation forward, is seeking to confer himself in a bond of communion upon a holy people, in a holy realm, through a perfectly obedient federal head.”

Did Jesus Even Exist? Responding to 5 Objections Raised by @rawstory

Some observations — If we in the 21st century can detect the apparent contradictions in the New Testament accounts, then certainly the 1st century authors, editors and compilers of the New Testament accounts could too. The question then is, why did they leave them in? This fact is very strong evidence that the New Testament was not fiction, and was not made up. Those who sought to create and perpetuate a hoax would likely have smoothed over these apparent discrepancies. Secondly, is there any other fictional character from the literature of antiquity who commanded a following the likes of Christianity? Again, this is very strong evidence that fictional characters do not have the power to create or cause organized, global religious organizations. There is no “Church of Loki” for instance.

There Is No Shame in Loss

I am the oldest of nine black American homeschoolers. I was not raised to care what people think. But I was raised to give honor to life. For me, announcing a pregnancy early is not about the attention or the fanfare or the potential heartache. For me, it’s about telling our future daughters, “Hey. Pregnancy is wonderful. If you want to announce it the minute you see a positive sign, that’s fine, because there’s a life in there. And there is no shame in experiencing a loss.”

Reasons To Believe : Three (More) Reasons Why Junk DNA Is No Longer Evidence for Evolution

It is exciting that ongoing research efforts, in line with the results of the ENCODE Project, continue to identify function for junk DNA. Though it may seem like wasted effort to continue dwelling on this facet of the creation-evolution controversy, it is necessary as long as ENCODE skeptics continue to rail against the conclusions of this project. As new studies reaffirm the ENCODE results, its critics will eventually realize the futility of arguing against it.

Michael Moore and the "We Are All Muslim" Campaign Documentary filmmaker and author Michael Moore recently began his "We Are All Muslim" campaign against Donald Trump. But is the claim that all people are Muslims consistent with the Qur'an? Ironically, by insisting that we are all Muslim, Michael Moore has insulted both Allah and Muhammad. According to Islam, being a Muslim requires full submission.

Practical Advice for Those Getting Ready to Wed (Part 1 of 2)

Jim: --yeah, when you look at social critics, they'll claim that marriage is outdated. It's a human institution, which you know, all of us don't believe. I'm playing the opposite position here. And so, they'll say it's all a construct of humanity. I mean, for kids to be able to live together and try it out, and maybe I'm hopefully, putting a tool into the hands of parents, even Christian parents, that their 25-, 23-year-olds are giving them, saying, "You know, mom and dad, it's okay. We just want to try this. A lot of our friends have been divorced. We don't want to be in that boat. We think this is better." Talk to me as if I'm the one you're trying to convince as to why these aren't social constructs. This is not a human invention; it's how we honor God.

Teen Mania: Why We're Shutting Down After 30 Years of Acquire the Fire

“Honestly, the hardest part about our closure is for people to misinterpret what the closing of a chapter means,” Luce said in an hour-long, exclusive interview. “Scripture talks about old and new wineskins. Sometimes old wineskins don’t need to be used anymore. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. There are plenty of Christian organizations that become institutions, that are dead and dry, and they’re old wineskins. We don’t want to become that. So it’s not a bad thing to say that the wineskin is done. We feel like we’ve completed this assignment.”

3 Things I Wish I Knew Before We Got Married

my name is Mark Godswin am here to share testimony of how i got back my relationship that was scattered for months. we got married for more than 7 years and have gotten three kids. things were going well with us and we are always happy. until one day my wife started behaving in a way i could not understand, i was very confused by the way she treat me and the kids. for months she did not come home again and she called me for a divorce, i asked her what have i done wrong to deserve this from her, all she was saying is that she want a divorce that she hate me and do not want to see me again in her life, i was mad and also frustrated and do not know what to do,i was sick for more than 3 weeks because of her intention towards me. i love my wife so much and can do anything for her. i told my brother and he told me to contact a spell caster, i never believe in all this spell casting of a thing. i just want to try if something will come out of it. i contacted DR Alexzander through his website, for the return of my wife to me, he told me that my wife have been taken by another man, that he cast a spell on her that was why she hate me and also want us to divorce.

Wheaton College Suspends Hijab-Wearing Professor After 'Same God' Comment

“I wonder if people who say that would make the same charge against Jews who also do not accept Jesus as the Messiah,” he wrote. “The Muslims with whom I share relationships of love and trust tell me they worship the same God I do and the Jews do. According to my faith, they cannot do it to the fullest because Jesus is the full revelation of God—God in flesh and blood. But who am I to say that they do not worship the one true God according to their understanding?”

Christianity Today's 2016 Book Awards

"Keener is a scholar with gifts that come along once every century, and here we see them employed in full force. Words like encyclopedic , magisterial , and epic come to mind when you examine 4,000 carefully argued pages on every aspect of the Book of Acts. Nothing like this has ever been done—and it’s doubtful that anything like it will be done for a long time. Keener has a grasp of the ancient world like few scholars anywhere, but he also has a heart for the church and its mission." — Gary Burge, professor of New Testament, Wheaton College

The Beautiful Orthodoxy Book of the Year

“Hill tackles not only the currently pressing topic of what hope Christianity has to offer those experiencing themselves as gay or lesbian, but also the deeper topic of friendship in an expressive-individualist age—something that’s relevant to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation. The book makes an acute diagnosis of our atomized lives in a world that imagines sex as the only source of real intimacy, and marriage as the only setting for real commitment. It retrieves elements of the historic church tradition relating to friendship and commitment. And all this is presented in sensitive, evocative language, with a reverence for literature, language, and art that makes it a delight to read. Hill’s account has a raw, even wrenching, honesty that’s essential to authentic Christian testimony in our broken world.” — Andy Crouch, executive editor, Christianity Today magazine

Christianity Today's 2015 Book Awards

It’s like that with our current crop of book awards, which pursue paths both old and new. One of the victory nods goes to a new study of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. You’ve perhaps heard a thing or two about him. And like always, we honor plenty of volumes touching on the Bible, the church, and perennial matters of faith. But hopefully, we’ll also inspire at least some readers to acquaint themselves with abolitionists Hannah More and Sarah Grimke, or the philosopher Charles Taylor (and his penetrating look at our “secular age”).

Be a Yoda, Not a Grinch

It’s a pivotal principle for Christian life and ministry: as we give what’s ours — money, time, wisdom — to serve others, we know and feel more of what Christ has given us in full forever by serving us on the cross. Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). He taught us this with his perfect divine example. Investing in a few disciples was the chosen strategy for bringing the gospel to the world and establishing an everlasting kingdom. Two thousand years later, his church has canvased the globe, and his words are cherished and rehearsed more than ever.

A 7 Day Bible Reading Plan to Help You Study the Evidence for God - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers

My personal journey of investigation took months to complete, and my study of the evidence became a daily devotional of sorts. As I sifted through the cosmological, biological, mental and moral evidence, I found myself more and more convinced of God’s existence. I examined the universe using the same skills and techniques I would use to investigate any crime scene to see if an external suspect is the most reasonable suspect, and once I was convinced an all-powerful God outside the “room” of the natural universe was the best explanation for the evidence “inside the room,” I returned to the Gospels. While most of my suspects are reluctant to confess, this “suspect” already had. The Gospels describe the God I identified in my investigation of the universe.

My Take: When Bedford Falls Becomes Pottersville

Atleast in the new year, we will wake up lest we will perish. Please note that no aicton can be taken by the Administration, if we adopt certain permissible methods for agitation. The only method of agitation, which is prone to risk is strike, including mass casual leave. The permissible forms of agitation are (i) Boycott of Excise day celebrations, (ii) Resignation from the Honorary posts such as Recreation club, canteen, welfare society etc, (iii) Refusal to wear the uniform (in view of the order of the Central Information Commissioner to the effect that there are no official instructions available in the Department to insist on Uniform), (iv) Refusal to attend the protocol functions (this decision requires only self respect). It will be better if the Association leadership guides the cadre in the above path of agitation so as to have uniformity in the agitation. It seems Association does not want to displease the Administration as Mr. PV.Raju does not want to displease the Association leadership. If Association does not give the call for agitation, why the officers with self respect cannot do the above, in their individual capacity atleast????.
