Christian Case Makers: Don't Allow Your Vigilance To Become Vitriol

Most of us, as Christians, understand the importance of truth. We also understand our duty as believers to protect and guard the doctrinal truths of Scripture. The New Testament authors repeatedly warn us to be vigilant against the distortion of truth that inevitably results when prideful and errant influences invade the Church:

5 Arrive Alive

Now since this is a Christian worldview broadcast, let me give you a Christian worldview take on all of this: Needlessly endangering your life and the lives of others is bad. When you’re behind the wheel, to quote the Bible, do it with all your might. So put down the phone. Turn off the apps. Arrive alive.

This remarkable passage has at its center an indictment of thanklessness. They did not honor Him as God or give thanks . Paul wants us to understand that the refusal to honor God and give thanks is a raw form of the primal sin. Theologians have long debated the foundational sin — and answers have ranged from lust to pride. Nevertheless, it would seem that being unthankful, refusing to recognize God as the source of all good things, is very close to the essence of the primal sin. What explains the rebellion of Adam and Eve in the Garden? A lack of proper thankfulness was at the core of their sin. God gave them unspeakable riches and abundance, but forbade them the fruit of one tree. A proper thankfulness would have led our first parents to avoid that fruit at all costs, and to obey the Lord’s command. Taken further, this first sin was also a lack of thankfulness in that the decision to eat the forbidden fruit indicated a lack of thankfulness that took the form of an assertion that we creatures — not the Creator — know what is best for us and intend the best for us.

10 What Is the Biblical Basis for Human Dignity?

Dignity, by biblical definition, is tied to the biblical concept of glory. God’s glory, His weightiness, His importance, His significance, is what the Bible uses to describe the fountainhead of all dignity. And only God has eternal value and intrinsic (that is, in and of Himself) significance. I am a creature—I come from the dust. The dust isn’t all that significant, but I become significant when God scoops up that dust and molds it into a human being and breathes into it the breath of life and says, “This creature is made in my image.” God assigns eternal significance to temporal creatures. I don’t have anything in me that would demand that God treat me with eternal significance. I have eternal significance and eternal worth because God gives it to me.

Sin Will Never Make You Happy

What is the sword of the Spirit? It’s the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Here’s where faith comes in. “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). The word of God cuts through the fog of Satan’s lies and shows me where true and lasting happiness is to be found. And so the word helps me stop trusting in the potential of sin to make me happy, and instead entices me to trust in God’s promise of joy (Psalm 16:11).

Philosopher Stephen T. Davis on Tolerance

"There is no necessary connection between being an objectivist on truth and being intolerant.  Of course, there is a historical tendency that can be disturbing--a sense of absolute certainty does lead some people to intolerance and imperialism.  Still, relativists who try to make this point don't seem to realize that there can be moral systems that are taken to be objectively true and that teach or even require tolerance...The Christian motivation for tolerance is not that nobody has the objective truth but that Jesus told us to love all people and especially our enemies.  And we Christians try to practice tolerance and respect for people precisely because we believe that Jesus' teaching is true (i.e., objectively true)." 1 Courage and Godspeed,Chad Footnote: 1. Lord, Break My Heart

But such remembering is perhaps most beautifully portrayed in Acts 2:44–45, where “all who believed were together and had all things in common [and] were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.” This is a sign and wonder: to be so moved, so distressed, by another’s distress, that one gives his wealth away to provide for the other’s need. But again we remember what Jesus said, in fact, when someone would not give his wealth to the poor, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27).

15 Thankful for What? Thankful to Whom?

That’s what drove the Pilgrims to hold the first Thanksgiving. Gratefulness. For survival. But some historians suggest that first gathering was nothing more than a Harvest Feast, a common occurrence from Europe that the Pilgrims were mere imitating. Therefore, they say, it really wasn’t a religious gathering at all but a secular one.

What Is Thanksgiving Day?

Thanksgiving is an American holiday that stretches all the way back to a time long before America became a nation. The Pilgrims landed in 1620. They faced brutal conditions and were woefully unprepared. Roughly half of them died in that first year. Then they had a successful harvest of corn. In November of 1621 they decided to celebrate a feast of thanksgiving.

11 Objections to the Kalam Cosmological Argument

The Kalam Cosmological Argument is one of the most popular cosmological arguments around today. The argument is fairly straightforward and enjoys intuitive support. It goes like this: “Whatever begins to exist had a cause; the universe began to exist; therefore, the universe had a cause.” The argument has several common objections, and eleven of them are listed here, along with some of my comments. I believe each objection can be satisfactorily answered so that one is justified in accepting the KCA.

Orion and the Pleiades Speak Truth

Job had been proclaiming his innocence of wrongdoing, insisting that his suffering was not fair, and calling for an answer from God. Instead of giving Job an explanation, God asked him a series of unanswerable questions to demonstrate His superior wisdom in ruling the world, including His sovereign decision to permit Job’s suffering. Here are several of the questions that God asked Job related to constellations:

“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate …. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t”

Who Could Be Happy in a World Like Ours?

And yet, so often, happiness seems to be pulled just out of our reach — institutionalized abortion, mass shootings, the recurrence of cancer, moral collapse, unfaithful friends, personal sins that seem so embedded in our bones that they just won’t die. Who could be happy in such a world as ours?

Jesus and the Culture of His Day: An Interview with Craig A. Evans

Craig A. Evans: All that we have of history are “remains,” either remains of writings or the physical remains of human culture. With respect to Jesus we have a significant body of writings and physical remains, which are brought to light through archaeological excavations and analysis. 34 Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving - Metaxas, Eric &

Experience the true story from American history about the spiritual roots and historical beginnings of Thanksgiving. This entertaining and historical story shows that the actual hero of Thanksgiving was neither white nor Indian but God. In 1608, English traders came to Massachusetts and captured a twelve-year-old Indian, Squanto, and sold him into slavery. He was raised by Christians and taught faith in God. Ten years later he was sent home to America. Upon arrival, he learned an epidemic had wiped out his entire village. But God had plans for Squanto. God delivered a Thanksgiving miracle: an English-speaking Indian living in the exact place where the Pilgrims landed in a strange new world.

Love Her More, Love Her Less: Living for God’s Glory in Marriage

The power and impulse to carry through the self-denial — the daily, monthly, yearly, decades-long dying that will be required in loving an imperfect wife and loving an imperfect husband to the glory of God — must come from a hope-giving, soul-sustaining, superior satisfaction in God. Our love for our wives, and theirs for us, will not glorify God until it flows from a heart that delights in God more than marriage. Marriage will be preserved for the glory of God, and shaped for the glory of God, and sweetened for the glory of God when the glory of God is more precious to us than marriage.

Singleness Is Not a Problem to Be Solved

I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband.
